Which Company Will You Choose? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just curious as to which company everyone will be getting their GNote2 on? I am undecided between AT&T and Big Red (Verizon). I know Verizon will have bootlock GNote2, but Im sure someone will figure out around it. My mane concern is service, data speeds... Who do you think has the best... Sprint and T-Mobile are not even an option for me.
Thanks

Verizon then T-Mobile. Right now I have unlimited data and I buy my devices outright anyway... So the speeds here Verizon > T-Mobile. 60mbps vs. 8mbps.

Getting mine through Sprint!

I'm currently on AT&T, and have been for 4 years or so. My plan is up in Feb, but I'm really looking forward to the Note 2, so if they don't allow me to early upgrade, I may just eat the ETF, and look around for a different carrier. I'd like to pay a little less than the 98 a month i'm paying now for unlimited data + 450 minutes +1500 text. It's murdering me.
Do you guys think it would be worth it to buy the phone un-subsidized and go to a cheap plan? I see people mentioning stuff like 50 a month unlimited data and stuff... That blows my mind.

That would be me, but no it's a plan they no longer offer. If they axe my plan I will probably switch too. But apparently I'm pretty tick off about Verizon CFO right now about the "Unlimited is just a word" thing.

T-Mobile for me, I've always gotten good service and low prices for my plans from them.

I will be getting this beast on the Yellow network...

Im currently on the tmobile $30 plan - and after going all in with google voice it's been great. I'll probably stick with tmobile and either get the international note 2 or the tmobile version (as i think it'll be a pentaband phone)

I currently have the note and service with AT&T... I left sprint to get this phone and I won't get anything else if it's not the note 2 or 3...
I will be paying the ETF on AT&T and head over to Verizon.... AT&T doesn't provide LTE in my area and Verizon does...
Just a bit of information on someone that don't currently have the note.... You will be using this phone for pretty much everything... So for that reason I would advise you guys to look into your areas and go with a provider that offers LTE..... Only if you can afford it.... I stream pretty much anything I want.. Movies, sports, using slingbox as well and the big screen is just amazing to watch these things...
So there you have it... Don't get discourage on the screen size.... At first you will be like, what did I do? But believe me, after a coupe of days you will not put it down.....

Getting mine on Sprint!

Not sure. I was planning to just upgrade on my ATT line; since I have unlimited data. But T-Mobile is looking very appealing. I'm such a noob to android though. I'm wondering if one will have more development than the other.

sticking with UK vodafine in the UK, I've got 12 months laft on my existing note contract, they said they would offer me the note 2 at £280, my mates offered me the same for my note, so thats a no brainer really. Although I cant actually order until Monday 01/10/2012.
I'll let you guys know when its in my hand!
What colour are people going for, im gonna get the dark one, I'm just not a fan of white electronic devices, its all a bit poser'ish pour moi.

Going with the grey for sure. Never did like white as well. Wish it was Satin Black though, maybe matte.

AT&T for me. Been with them since 1997 so I have unlimited data. Best LTE network I have seen in Texas. (Have Verizon for work). I get a great corporate discount on my rate plan so I cannot wait for the GN2!
Titanium Grey for me. Never had a white phone and see no reason to start now.

[Q] After your contract is up...will you be staying on Sprint??

My Contract is up in January. And I don't believe i'm staying with Sprint. I pay only $82 with my employee discount and I like the whole "Unlimited" but I feel as if with the whole slow data and never getting a chance to experience "4G", on my Epic 4G, I may change to T-Mobile or its MVNO "Simple Mobile"
What about you guys?
Edit: I believe I posted this in the wrong section if it fits in the General Discussion threads can someone move it their or if it's fine here then ok lol. Just don't want people flaming me

Its a question but at the same time its more of a discussion to talk about so I think its fine here, but honestly if I change cariers id be paying 200 +, and right now I'm at 196 for 3 lines, with tep for every line, and 1400 shared mins.
And I don't care for 4g I don't rely on it. If I need **** done that fast I have it done before I'm on the road. And wherever I go 3g doesn't take so long so I'm good and if it is so what I'm saving money

Yeah I see in your situation staying seems the good option and I don't need 4G either but I wish I could personally see how fast it is compared to 3G you know. And where I live I don't get that great signal nor speeds. I always feel like im on edge with my usual 200kbps down lol

Oh neh my signal inside is actually the same outside as well, except in the basement of course. I honestly can say i've probably seen my Epic hit 1.5mbps down less than 10 times since 5months ago when I downloaded the speedtest app. It's a fun app
Honestly by the time that Jan rolls around i'm sure youll have a different opionion of Sprint.
I'm one of the biggest Sprint haters there are (i've had them since my original SERO plan though, but i also keep my T-Mobile line as well - both have their ups and downs)
to be honest, Sprint has been getting a lot better lately (it seems like they just flipped something here in Phoenix about two weeks ago), as i went from .2 down to 1.2Mbps down pretty much everywhere i go, and the whole WiMax "4G" thing, just get an LTE phone and you'll get way better "4G" than the epic could ever handle anyway.
Some people are randomly reporting 4G LTE on their Evo LTE phones and i've seen results as high as 42Mbps posted around, so that's what i'd be looking forward too if i were you
yes
I love sprint. verizon may be faster, but sprint is way cheaper unless you get some kind of discount with verizon. I don't need blazing fast speeds, my wifi takes care of that!
I was THIS close to ditching Sprint. Even called and put in a request to cancel, opened service with T-Mobile, bought an HTC One S... but T-Mobile's coverage just wasn't good enough. Undid everything (the Sprint cancellation hadn't gone through yet), returned the One S, canceled T-Mobile.
I am out of contract but my wife is still under contract until September. At that point we will move on to another carrier. The thing about Sprint is despite their offering more for the same cost as the other carriers, they also don't have any option of paying less to get less-inclusive service. Say I want to save money by ditching the texting plan and using Google Voice instead, or maybe I don't need 1500 minutes and I'd rather save some dosh by reducing that number. Those are options on the other carriers but not Sprint.
Not that Sprint is a bad price for what you get, but you can save $20-$50/mo on the other carriers. That combined with the slow data has me wanting to move elsewhere. Wish T-Mobile had worked out because they're by far the cheapest, but now it's looking like Verizon. Only problem with them is their love of locked down Motorola phones. But their LTE coverage is awesome, they have LTE at my parents' house (where I get 1 bar on Sprint and no coverage at all on T-Mobile).

Your not very great at making decisions before you pursue them do you?
I mean you just dont go and sign up with another carrier and buying a phone without knowing how their service is, etc... and you hadn't even completed the cancelation process with sprint.
And you too can lower your plan by shared minutes and other things...
Dude you have the choice of 700,1400, or 2.... or unlimited shared minutes.
And at my grandparents place its the same 1 bar but who cares it still works decent and uh did we forget about WiFi? haha.
Coverage isn't the ultimate ground breaking deal factor into choosing a carrier, yes its a factor but if its decent its fine by most people's standard it is.
And No matter who i go to besides Sprint my bill with 3 lines and everything unlimited except shared minutes is above 200+ and i have a 20%+ discount depending on the carrier.

I was trying it out. My contract is up (my wife's isn't) so I figured why not give T-Mobile a shot. If I like them I'll leave Sprint. If not, that's why there's a 14-day grace period. Loved the phone of course. The coverage just wasn't quite there. I specifically chose this past weekend because I was traveling a lot and I wanted to see how my service was in various places.
I knew from the outset that I would be roaming with T-Mobile most of the time. They don't have native coverage in central and eastern Wisconsin. I can deal with it, but the thing is once my wife's contract is up with Sprint she's going to hop on whatever provider I have, and she didn't want to be stuck on T-Mobile. So that's why I got rid of it.

I'm already on Sprint's lowest minute plan and I can't go any lower. 1500 shared minutes on a family plan is about 1000 more than we use each month. Not saying more minutes is a bad thing, just that I can't save any money by dropping to a lower plan.

Yeah my in-laws and parents both have wifi, so of course everything works at their houses. Then again, I feel that if I'm paying over $100 every month for phone service, I should have a phone that works everywhere. Beyond that, I'd rather have a decent smartphone with coverage than an awesome one without.

Yes, that's the exact issue, and the whole purpose of my post. For people who want unlimited everything, Sprint is probably the cheapest option. If you want every line to be a smartphone, it's also the cheapest option. If you can live with a smaller number of minutes, and are willing to use Google Voice for texting, Sprint actually becomes the most expensive.
Basically Sprint has the lowest maximum cost and the highest minimum cost. Everyone gets a premium plan whether they want it or not. If you want to save a little money, there's nothing you can do. I'm not saying Sprint is a bad carrier; it's just that they're not for everyone. For you they might be a perfect fit.

Their is no way that can be true about the 42mbps because currently no phone even on LTE can handle that much speed unless their battery dies within 6 minutes lol. And here is my reason for switching:
I like to always stay updated with phones, I usually never have a phone longer than a year without getting a new one that's just me. Coming from T-Mobile I had the easy life of simply buying a phone and switching sim cards and that's it. I never liked cdma phones because they lacked the sim card, so I never bothered buying a sprint phone because 1 I didn't know how to switch my # over to it(now I do) and etc etc it seemed like a hassle.
Another reason is although Sprint has nice phones, they honestly don't have variety compared to T-Mobile. The SG3 would be the only reason I'd stay, but I don't want to pay full price for it and I don't want to stay with my OG Epic till January. I don't have to pay the Early Termination Fee because my job has benefits with Sprint.
In all fairness, besides their unlimited plan that I love, I would stay with the Epic and hold off until January but now paying $90 a month, going to a MVNO like Simple Mobile who uses GSM and T-Mobiles service, I'd save $ and it would definitely help me out financially. So im switching just based on personal reasons and financial that's all.

You do know that version of Speedtest never supported LTE yet right? Especially since LTE truly started rolling out around the time the version was made. So im going to say that this video isn't proof of a phone hitting those speeds rather than a simple glitch...For the Evo hell yes that looks exactly like Sprint network speeds haha...

Am I crazy...

Im considering leaving Verizon and my unlimited Data plan behind for AT&T. Am I crazy? I think of it like this.... We have more options with GSM. Google will sell the Nexus from now on for a no contract price cheaper than the stores. Verizon will probably never see another Nexus. If we like a phone that is ether not coming to the states or coming 6 months later we can still buy one.
Trading one tyrant for another.
Your call. I'd go contract free before doing such a thing.

Unless the coverage is poor in your area I would recommend T-Mobile over AT&T. AT&T is a rather awful carrier in more ways than I'd like to go into right now. Either way, while Verizon has incredible coverage I never recommend using a CDMA network of any kind, much less Verizon, but that is my own personal opinion.

GSM all the way. I much prefer the flexibility of SIM cards to..well..hard programming into the phone. There's something nice about being able to totally skip your carrier when you want to change phones.
For example, I got sick of my old HTC Legend. Even though I was only a year into my contract, I got a second hand Xperia Play, swap the sim, boom boom done. A year later I'm due for an upgrade and I'm not even sick of my phone. No matter, hello Nexus!

Yeah it's new. Came with the new shared everything plans. And apparently they're also going to start tacking on a 40 dollar per month service fee for smartphones as well. Really lame.
In my opinion, I'm really happy with ATT. Yeah they're more expensive than TMobile, but their coverage is damn good and my hspa+ speeds are actually faster than VZW's lte where I live. It really depends on your area. But I definitely suggest either ATT or TMobile purely for the gsm phones. Means you can use international versions as well.

Not disagreeing that shared plans suck, but the shared plan and fee go together. It isn't enforced on other plans.

Hahaha, no way. I guess I've just dated myself, I thought CDMA was still hard programmed into the phone Was always the reason I went with a GSM carrier.

Verizon found a way around it. Sprint on the other hand...they are still provisioned per phone.

When did it change? I remember when my American BF changed his phone a year or two ago (verizon) and he had to get them to reprogram the contacts because of lack of SIM. Sorry for the lack of knowledge here, I live in Canada.

With the addiiton of LTE devices, they brought in the SIMs as well.
Their EvDo devices are simless, but as far as I know, there will be no more new 3G devices brought out. At least this year.

Yeah I forgot about that. I haven't looked at the new pricing at all, just read articles about it. Do you by chance know if the shared plans are cheaper overall for say a family of 4 with smartphones on the shared plan vs an old plan where they all have like 30 per month individual data plans? Seems to me like it wouldn't be much of a stretch for a carrier to pull some BS like that nowadays. Haha.

[Q] What's your next phone?

So, I am currently in the market for a new phone because I am sick of how HTC treats their customers. I was wondering if you guys thought jumping on the Galaxy Nexus would still be a good idea even though the Sg3 is out.
The Sg3 looks amazing, but it is kind of out of my price range with the average price being $400. I have found a few Nexus' anywhere from $200-250 which is more my style. The thing that worries me though is that it is already close to a year old and I know the minute I purchase one the next greatest phone will be out.
Does anyone know when the next Nexus phone will be out? I am due for an upgrade around March, but would really like to jump to a 4g phone before then.
What do you guys think? Stay with the inc2, grab a Nexus, or just wait until I can get something with my upgrade?
Any ideas?
I've had an upgrade since July I was going to get the sg3 but when I found out it was dual core it turned me off BC I was stoked for quad. Then I was going to get the inc4g, but I hate sense and I'm tired of HTC. I was close to getting the gnex on Saturday for $50 from best buy, but like you said its already a year old plus the 5mp camera is kinda iffy for me especially since the og Inc had an 8mp back in 2010! I'm going to wait for the galaxy note 2 coming out soon 1.6 quad core 2gigs ram super HD amoled running JB
I was considering a SG3 as well, or the GNEX, but I am currently satisfied with the Inc2 at the moment and will way my options when I am ready for a new device. I am curious if anyone has tested out any of these phones and had any opinions as well. I have not "upgraded" since they got away from unlimited data, so I am still grandfathered in and not sure if I will sign a new contract or just purchase the phone. The 4g is not a big issue with me as Big Red has not brought it to our area yet, and probably wont see it anytime soon.
Maybe I will wait for the Note 2 as well. My friend has the SG3 and the screen on it is beautiful. The one thing about the Note which I am unsure about is the stylus. I don't know how I feel about that. It's not like that is a big deal breaker for me, just something I'm unsure about. I have had 4g in my area since it has been released, for the most part, so I def want to go 4g. I am worried I will lose my unlimited, which is why I was starting to look for 4g now.
Samsung does make a great looking phone though. Colors are so vibrant on them. When the Note 2 comes out, is it supposed to be better than SG3 or is that phone still going to be considered the best?

It's not HTC's fault. They already gave the OTA to vzw a while ago. It's big red's fault for not releasing the goddamn update already because they need to bloat the **** out of it before they can be satisfied.

The stylus to me is just an accessory. You can function the phone without it. If I use my upgrade I will lose unlimited, but I'm only using 1.3 gigs a month. Not to mention my $200 phone bill and 2 unused phone lines. So upgrading will cancel unlimited data but I'll be saving $100+ dollars a month with my military discount. There's no real reason to use 4gig+ of data so I wouldn't worry about losing unlimited. Unlimited data users probably are getting throttled anyway. The note 2 is going to be a supercharged s3. Check out the specs on both http://www.autoomobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-note-2-vs-s3-4/1003595/
My only problem is whether to stay on Verizon or not. The Verizon version of the note2 is going to have the Verizon brand on the home button! I can't believe that. I'm super satisfied with my inc2 only BC I rooted. But the lack of ota is troubling. This phone isn't that old

Do you know of a way to check the actual data usage without calling up Verizon? I also just did watch a few videos of the Note 2 being used and all I can say is WOW. This phone looks like it is going to be a pure beast. Also, you are right about the stylus being an accessory. After watching this video with it in use, I think I completely changed my opinion on it.
This is the video I just watched:

I only have 2 options for cellular service, Verizon or Cell One because I live in a small town. I have been with Verizon since probably 2004, switching from Sprint when I lived in Atlanta GA. I have never had an issue with them as far as service quality, prices are a bit high but I will pay for them as long as I have good service. As for the Inc 2 I will probably use it for another year or so before I consider switching, unless something happens to it before then. I have only been using mine for about 3 months or so and paid $75 for it from an acquaintance of mine that upgraded to the RazrMaxx.

I am from New Jersey love the service I get from Verizon. I have yet to go someplace that doesn't give me great service (unless I'm in a basement with no windows or something similar). As for other services, I have just about everything you can find in my area and from having friends I pretty much see everyone leave all other to come to Verizon. AT&T is the only one that can compete with Verizon in my area, but the only people I know that have that service is the Iphone users. For $75 you can't go wrong with this phone. It is def a great phone and aside from the lack of updates and no 4g that is my only complaint.
Nitsua, you say Big Red has the OTA and I have heard that before also, but how true is it? Is Verizon keeping the OTA secret because they are bloating it up or do they actually not have it? We may never know the truth until it is either released or they come out and say that the OTA will not be coming. Of course, I hope it comes, but I feel myself slowly getting sick and tired of the wait, especially since they promised up end of Aug. and now we are a week from October.
Yes, They have been late on phones before, but from my research, this is the longest they have gone after missing a date which really angers me towards both HTC and Verizon.

Verizon has it. How else would you guys have your ics leak . They have to perfect it though and make sure that there are no bugs. Also since it's an older device that not many people have, they are setting their focus on other phones.

I'm not too bothered by not getting the ICS OTA honestly. There are plenty of ICS ROMs that are functional enough for me to use. I'll just stick it out until I can upgrade in July, 2013 and either upgrade or switch carriers. Who knows what phones will be out by then?

I have a droid bionic just sittin here. I may use that, but with that remote phone wipe hack I may just forget about it.The hack doesn't seem to affect the INC2.
my upgrade isn't till may. Depending on the inc4g, i will purchase it if its s-off. Otherwise, I think i'll be getting the SGSIII. My next phone has to be unlocked someway.
I'm really diggin the xperia phones. And it looks like most of them are getting ics in the next couple weeks. The ion is free on the us sony site.

Bought it......Sold it. $475 For those still on the fence re N7100 vs SGHi717 .

I should have listened to my instincts and went of the N7100. I really wanted to like the ATT version. I got the device. immediately rooted it and flashed the CleanLite Rom. There were a couple things I missed too much and the additional $30 a month was not worth it since we do not have LTE and if we did the speeds are really only realized when downloading ir uploading huge files. Regular browsing is still website dependent,
However the phone is always seeking LTE. No way to turn it off. Having been on Mediat Net UL data was nice but I never used more than 700mb and that was when I was steaming TuneIn radio just to try it out. (I was listening to the same shows we have locally.at different times) I am a talk radio junkie. I love all the gad fests, from Kim Komand to Rush Limbaugh. I am plugged in all day at work.
I need the FM Radio and I did not want to pay $15 more a month for it and have to get a 3GB plan. Not to mention the battery use for radio is far less than streaming wifi or carrier data. So I called ATT and Provisioned my International Note 1 for Smartphone data ( I had to convince them I had a smart phone because you cannot have two dumb phones on a family share plan and the wife International SGS II i9100 shows up as a dumb phone to get the Family Shared 1GB plan. Now we have messaging as well which we did not have and unlimited calling which we did not have. and I will buy an N7100 when the prices drop below $600. Funny all these years I was under the radar. they "discovered " my Note a a smart phone and I always had to call to switch it back to MediNet. Now I had to convince them it was a smart phone...Funny how things work.
The international development is very much further as well. although a few "ported" ROMs are showing up on this side of things.
Love the form factor of the Note 2 and it was very fast. The additional processing and RAM were clearly noticeable.
S Pen much better. Notification LED nice. There is a reason to upgrade for sure. In my case the N7100 is the better choice.Warranties mean little to me since I root the devices out of the box,
I posted this for those who are on the fence and may have similar needs.
Thanks for the post, man. I'm fighting myself over whether I want to go grab a Note II today (been thinking about it non-stop all weekend). Heck, I was cussing when I saw your post in the MP and I missed out! I'd have bought it in a heartbeat (and saved a couple of hundred $$$ in the process).
I've already got the AT&T GSIII, so I'm not sure how much of an upgrade the Note II would be for me. I mean, I KNOW it would be an upgrade in some areas, but I'm just trying to figure out if it warrants the $$$ (and the money isn't a problem for me...I'm just debating myself as I always do on large purchases). I'd be buying off-contract (as I did with the SIII), so it's not a small amount of money.
I usually get my phones, the off-contract ones at least, from Best Buy because of their generous 30-day return window and their price matching. I guess I could always grab a Note II and give it a go for a couple of weeks. Then I'll know for sure whether it's a worthy upgrade or not and if not, I can always return it without a restocking fee.
Glad to see you got things figured out. Sorry I missed out on buying your Note II, but glad to see you got it sold quickly! :good:

We have pretty good LTE coverage here...and I do use it..and I also had my time with 3 of the G3's...when they worked that is..
Looking at things objectively...is the Note 2 a upgrade worthy enough to leave the G3...IMHO...you bet it is especially if you like big screens...and can use the S-pen...
If those 2 things aren't enough to sway you...then maybe you should wait for the G 4 to come out...I would never go back to a G3 after using this one...to me it's leaps and bounds above them and custom roms will come...hell the sys dump for the ATT version just happened on the 6th of this month...so...IMHO...go get one and use it for a while...at least you will have a time with it to see what all the hubbub is about... and since they are still in short supply in many places...I don't think you will have any issue selling it if you don't like it..
Mac
I don't regret leaving my gs3 one bit. You either want a bigger screen or you don't and the internals are certainly a bump up. Getting the note 2 was a little intimidating now I don't think I could go back to the gs3.
about att and international note 2 choices, basically the question is: LTE & warranty or lots more custom rom
I choose att version only because i like LTE. and i am sure the att version will have its asop, cm 10/11, miui, and some kernel.

The problem with ASOP with the Notes is the S pen apps don't always work as they are Samsung apps and Samsung has been hoarding their drivers as well. The FM Radio did not work in Cyanogen. Needed a $10 app to make it work Spirit UL I think it was. I like the Samsung stuff well enough and eliminate the Social apps so I stick with the Stock Samsung ROMS. Especially since I am not a flashaholic and prefer to stick with a good ROM that only gets updated when there are major updates.
OP;us I am running 4..1.2 now and the ATT Note was a step back as far as Multiview etc went. Roms will be coming but like with the Captivate most of the good stuff will be ported from the N7100 developers

I bought it for $239 an signed a contract for two years I have been with ATT since Wireless began. I don;t plan on changing Carriers. We have had two upgrades for the past four years. I burned one to try the ATT version. Since I rooted it I don't feel right bringing it back and sold it instead made a few dollars toward the N7100 With the sale iof My Note either way it was going to cost me $300 to buy the N7100. Now it will be "free" or at most $100 more. I will use my wife's upgrade next year.
I buy her used International phones. She loves the SGS II i9100 and will be using that until it fails. Then I will find her a well used international SIII to keep her on the $30 non smartphone plan.
We pay $115 a month for two phones with UL everything except for the 1GB data Same as we were paying for two mediaNEt UL data phones with no messaging and 700 minutes. I don;t use a lot of carrier data with the FM radio especially.
Disregard me please. Im totally lost even more now. Att has a 1gb plan? I didnt know

For me, its an easy choice. LTE. I live about 30 miles from AT&T headquarters, so LTE speed is amazing. As far as custom rom's go. I create my own stuff, so that does not concern me the slightest.
CM will come. Ive already setup the device tree, I just need to figure out the RIL stuff and defconfig in the kernel, to enable to qualcomm modem.

Yeah they have a family share plan with UL talk and messaging with 1 GB data shared. One smart phone and one dumb phone would be $115 a month. They charge $40 plus $30 for the "dumb" phone and $45 for the smart phone. If my wife were to get an ATT smart phone the bill would go up nearly $200 a year. $15 more a month Still sharing 1GB. Not worth it. I would go back to MediNet and two "dumb" phones. We have a couple old dumb phones we stick the SIM cards in when calling ATT. Except now I have declared a smart phone to get UL talk and messaging.
With 4GB shared the bill would be $15 more Her phone would Still be $30 the plan would go to $70 and my phone would drop to $40 Basically I would get 3GB more for another $25 a month. I would rather pay the extra $15 for 2GB if i should use over 1GB. Without LTE there is no way I would be using 2GB.
LTE is great. but for basic web browsing 4G is fine. Downloading huge ROM files would be nice at home with 30MPS LOL I would use the Carrier before the cable internet. But I don;t want to become dependent on high carrier speeds. Its like the carriers are drug dealers. they get you hooked then you pay pay pay.....

Ugh I hope I can get a decent deal when I have my upgrade in about a year LOL
Just an update:
$99 offer is for new accounts only. $199 for upgrades/new lines.
With that in mind I ordered yesterday.... and won't see them until Jan. 31st due to the back order. Couldn't pass it up, especially since I was going to have to make the jump to Sprint next year anyhow. I'll eat a $100 ETF but think the missus will be happier if LTE is all they say it can/will be.
I know everone wants to jump on that phone and I LOVE IT. I played with my friend's phone and IT IS AWESOME. But I just can't buy an LTE-enabled device without any plans to get LTE in most of the areas. And of course with Sprint reaching the lowest service ever (in my region) I don't think I'm sticking with them any more. I was one of the happy customers for a long time but now I'm dropping calls and getting 16-22 Kbps in a lot of the areas that I go to. I know they will get better eventually and I know that the unlimited prices are great but I don't know what to do. I was thinking of getting a cheap phone and jump the no contract Simply Talk or Solavie or something, then I'll wait and see. If they actually get better I'll come back. What do you think?
Edit: May be they are getting better already. I just did a speed test and it came so good
I used to get 750-950 Kbps and the past couple of weeks it came down to 150-300 Kbps. No it is 1650-2100 Kbps on both phones.
May be I'll continue using Sprint and use my unlimited plan ...

For me I'm honestly switching because:
1) Was going to likely be pushed into Sprint if/when KDDI Mobile closes up. I suspect it will when the deal closes, KDDI won't give any details but don't see Softbank letting a competitor stay when they could push their own label as an MVNO.
2) With #1 in mind, I'm not going to pass up a chance to change models if a good deal comes around. Had to pay full price for the E4GT because they had me locked in an Optimus S... and that doesn't work for me.
3) Want to help support the GN2 community a lot more than I can now. We've seen what it can be like if no one supports - I want to remedy that.
4) It's a cool phone! At $100!
Worst case I eat the ETFs and I'm out only a little bit, considering buying these at full price would still have been double - and couldn't use them on the current MVNO.

You are absolutely right. But my friend got it on T-Mobile for $100 (after rebate, of course) and he's on a value plan (or something like that) with unlimited everything. He pays less than me (for two lines) but he's getting blazing fast speeds. That's why I was thinking of going to T-Mobile or one of it's MNVOs. On the other hand, my other friend whipped his iPhone when we were together and did a speed test on AT&T LTE and he got 50 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up. Another friend with Nexus 4 on T-Mobile is getting 18-25 Mbps everywhere we go on HSPA+. That's not fair, right?
Anyway, I still have a bit less than a year in my contract. I can't pay the ETF. It's going to be $450. So, again, I'll have to wait and see...

For those of you on SERO, this doesnt work. I spent 25 minutes on the phone with them today. Escalated it 2x, they wont budge to price match Bestbuys price. They just keep saying there is nothing we can do...
