there are a few free or paid apks on the play store that do this. titanium backup also has this function.

yes, Titanium backup is very helpful to backup all that you want, especially if you start to play with ROMs.
If you really use it, you will quickly buy the paid version
Else you have some apps dedicated to backup your contacts/calls/sms. I'm using MyPhoneExplorer, to synchronize them, and to backup them.

Alternatives to titanium backup

Titanium backup hasn't wireless for me for awhile, and judging from what I've read, I'm not the only one having this problem. Are there any alternatives out there that you like? I know ROM Manager is building in this functionality, but I imagine I'll need this before they complete that.
Thoughts?

Use SMSBackup+ from the Google Play Store/Android Market. It connects and saves everything in your gmail under the SMS label.
I remember TB used to be able to do this when I backed up everything. I only backup apps now so that my roms dont have complications.

For backup of SMS I'd recommend SMS backup & restore as titanium backup has failed me on occasions when restoring sms. It can be a lengthy process if you're backing up or restoring thousands of sms.

Transferring apps to another phone

Is there anyway to save and transfer apps to another phone? I have a lot of paid apps that I got for free from Amazon daily free app. I know regular paid apps I can download again but not these.

Can upload to cloud, or send the files to your computer. Or copy them to extsd.
So do I just move the titanium folder to the new device? Or do I need choose certain folders within the main folder. Then do I install titanium on the new device and just restore?

Yup put the folder on your new device, install titanium, and restore your apps.

Why can't you install Amazon App market on your new phone, log into the app, go to your My Apps folder and download the apps you need to the new phone? That's what I do every time I change phones. Just like Play Store, Amazon app market keeps all the apps you purchased (even if it was free the day you got it, it was still a purchase) linked to your account.
