[Q] Flipcover-Case /or whatever its called) for Note II? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya everyone!
In the IFA Hands-On video concerning the Note II's acessories the guy showed these super cool flipcovers.
The ones he showed you just clipped onto the phone instead of the normal back-cover and they had a flap that covered the screen
of the phone when closed.
I'm kinda new so I have no idea what theese cases are actually called (think i heard something like otterbox once? Dunno if thats what this is called though).
Anyhow, where can i get one of these!??? I have been searching all kinds of places, but no luck so far...
I can't bear the idea of having to shove the Note II into my pocket without any means of protecting that delicious screen.
And i doubt im the only one that thinks that way? I guess most others will get a screen protector or so. But anything
that reduces responsiveness or screen brilliance is a total No-Go for me.
Help please!!!! (already preordered my Note II... need that case faaast)
Thanks guys and gals :good:

[Q] Thoughts on the Samsung S III C Pen

Hey guys,
In excitement to receive the new S III on Verizon, I have set to search for cases, screen covers, etc. However, I happened to come across the Samsung S III C Pen in another post and was wondering what your thought were on it. Has anyone try it yet?
I'm an Animation Student in Digital Arts, and would like to use the C Pen for quick sketching on the S III.
The Samsung's link is here:

Forgive me in advance if this topic was meant to be posted in the Q&A section instead of here,
Cheers,

While I can't speak to the C Pen itself, my understanding is that it is just a capacitive stylus, unlike the S Pen for the note. That being the case, you will probably end up with a similar experience to other capacitive screen styli. Their quality can vary greatly but they are all just trying to replace your finger.

I don't think this is true. I saw a video (can't remember where now) that showed this C Pen in use and although it wasn't like the Note's S Pen, it wasn't like a normal stylus either. It is supposed to only work on the GS3 from what I understand and the person in the video used it on an iPhone to prove it. I ordered one yesterday. I will update this post once I get it and let you all know what I think of it.
I also have the Galaxy Note phone so I will be able to compare the 2.
i have watched one video, the only thing interested me...was that the stylus works only on S3, but no respond on iPhone.
Just wonder if it was true or not. and whats the point for that....:good::good:
I bought one last week and ended up sending it back. It looks and feels fantastic, but it didn't work that great with my screen protector installed (Zagg InvisibleShield) The surface was too "tacky" for any real precise usage. I mainly bought it for Draw Something and stuff like that. Now if you don't have a screen protector it should work perfect. Also I was under the impression that you could use it on tablets as well, going off the Amazon description that says: "Replacement for using fingers on your tablet or smartphone touchscreen" Sadly that isn't the case. I tried it on my Acer Iconia a500 tablet and my wife's Galaxy Nexus and it didn't do a thing. That's mainly my fault though for not doing research on it before hand and just going off of the Amazon description. So all that being said, if you don't have a screen protector installed or have something other than a Zagg InvisibleSHIELD, you shouldn't have an issue with it.

If it is the same as the Zagg where the screen protector is tacky, then it will probably have the same results. It would probably work better if there isn't a screen protector on there or a crystal clear one. I have a regular capacitive stylus and using it on my Transformer, you can feel a little resistance with a "tacky" protector.

The SGSIII uses a capacitive stylus. I tried my GNote stylus on the SGSIII and it does not work. The GNote can take a WACOM (Stock) stylus and a capacitive stylus and work I believe.
I do like using S Memo from my GNote to jot notes so I ordered the OEM Stylus for my SGSIII as well.

Yea I know. I also have the GNote but I also have the Wacom Intuos 5 tablet and my GNote stylus does not work on it and the Wacom stylus does not work on my GNote either. I also ordered the OEM Stylus for my SGS3. Should be here early next week. :good:
And for the OP. Your first mistake was putting a Zagg shield on your phone. I used to use them on all my phones pretty much when they were the only option but Zagg shields suck. They're tacky like you said and they discolor, turn an ugly brownish color and the corners eventually peel (quicker than most other screen protectors I've used). There are plenty of better options out there now. I, personally, choose to keep my phones naked now. :cyclops:
Noob question:
does it take batteries somehow? I would imagine the pen simulates our fingers' electroblahblah pulses somehow... right?

A wacom pen works with magnets. You can actually write though something as thick as cardboard and it will still work.

any update? how do you like it?
I got the C pen today. If you are thinking it will be close in operation to a WACOM pen or the Galaxy Note, it is not. Not even close.
The C pen is well made but the rubber tip skips along and is not smooth. I have not quite figured out the best angle for writing (I am left handed). The C pen does work for flipping screens and apps etc.
I will keep it and play with it some more, but it is really more of show off feature that is not nearly as useful as it is on the GNote. I wanted to try it because I do actually take and keep notes on my GNote. I will update if I discover anything new.
The S pen is absolutely not worth it. It doesn't work on any other devices besides the SGSIII
And it really doesn't work any better that other styli on the SGSIII. The only thing it has going for it is that it looks beautiful.

[Q] Lanyard Hole?

I haven't seen it mentioned in the specs or reviews. Does anyone know if the Note II has a hole for a lanyard? TBH that's one of the reasons I didn't go for the original Note over my SII.

I thought i needed one for the gnote1, so i tied a loop onto the speaker grill, worked real well. after a few weeks, there was no need for extra grip or the loop so i removed it... I would put put it back on if i go boating or something... its really quick and easy to use braided fishing line, unbreakable and nice and soft so wont eat into the plastic.

[Q] Too Big?

Considering getting a Note II. Kinda concerned about how big it is. Is it easily carried in pants/jeans pockets? Any issues with it being as large as it is?
Thanks.
Those issues only last for a couple of days. This device is "what's killing every other phone on the market"
Sent From An Incognegro Galaxy Note
It's fine, just feels phone-size to me now. I have big hands, though. This phone fits better in my hands than the Galaxy S3 fits in my girlfriends hands. The Galaxy S3 feels puny to me now. I can reach 90% of the screen without changing my grip.
In some pants with shallow pockets, crouching is impaired slightly, but while walking it fits fine, and you can swap it to the back pocket if you want. I wouldn't be worried about carrying it, though. That's a minor issue compared to using it. As long as you can use it fine, you'll be happy, so go into a store and try it out.

This was my biggest concern before buying the Note 2. But it's not too big by any means whatsoever. Holding anything else now just seems waaaay too little! Fits in all my pockets comfortably.

That was my only concern as well... I got it... now my only concern is that samsung will stop making notes and I will have to go back to a puny phone and squint to us it.

Well, it's more portable than the original Note since it's slimmer, so I'm not sure what "too big" quantifies as. I've owned both and had no problems carrying either. The Note I was wider and the Note II is longer. I still manage with relative ease.
I was very concerned about the size too and hesitated buying it. It only took a couple of hours to get past that concern. I still have my S3 and it looks so small now, I can't imagine what an iPhone would feel like now!!
It even could be bigger honestly...
Fits in all jeans pockets(even skinny jeans but barely), dickies, dress pants at work, and can still use as a one handed phone while walking in the city once you get used to it
Remember the benefits of a bigger screen such as an awesome GPS/docked in car etc
My Note 2 made my Skyrocket look like my Captivate did when I got my Skyrocket. I was convinced I'd never be able to use or carry the Note 2 (in fact, I skipped the original Note because it was literally twice the size of my Captivate). Within a week, I was used to pocketing the Skyrocket, Otterbox Defender and all. Likewise, with the Note 2, I'm already used to pocketing it, bulky folio case and all. I'm even comfortable-ish using it one-handed at this point.
If you're really worried about the size, go to any AT&T, T-Mo, Sprint or Verizon store, or a Wal-Mart, Radio Shack or Best Buy and pick the display model up. See how it feels. Don't try to jam it in your pocket or anything, but I went into a T-Mo store before getting mine and placed it alongside my pocket to see if I was comfortable with the size.
I still recommend a holster for a device as big as the Note 2 so you don't inadvertently crack it in a deep bend, but I haven't had any issues with the size beyond appreciating how huge the screen is.

+1 for everyone's comments. Just adding this: it is completely normal to me now, handling/viewing-wise. As I haven't had it that long yet, when people at my workplace & also family first see it they make a fuss over its gargantuan proportions. I look at it and think it's totally normal though. And no I cannot bring myself to imagine going back to my teeny phone (even though I love it dearly.) Some of the older ladies, in fact, said they would like a phone like that because they could actually SEE the stuff on it. lol
I will jump on this train. I felt the same way as you, and to be honest you can return it most places, look for somebody that won't charge you a restocking fee.
I came from a Samsung Captivate and temporarily on an iPhone 4. Personally the Note 2 feels better in my pocket than the iPhone 4 because of how thin it is.
The size does make one handed control a bit tricky, but Samsung has done a good job allowing you to turn on one hand input which shifts the keyboard or dialer to half the screen.
I have had it for a week now and continue to tell myself I will never buy a smaller phone again.
Not a problem
I've had mine just over a month now and have never thought of it as being too big. I have a flip case at present but am considering getting a more bomb-proof case in the near future. I dropped it once before I had the case and the screen smashed into a thousand pieces!! I got it back 5 days ago.

I agree. This 5.5in screen is pretty great because I'm used to it now. I picked up my wifes iphone yesterday and it felt extremely inadequate. I think I could even be okay with a 6 inch screen, but after that it will be "getting out of hand".
I haven't had a problem with it fitting in any of my jeans though, I always just hold it anyway, like I did my iphone while walking.

Its a little big, but what you get for a size bump outweighs any negative you can say about the size tbh. Get a smaller device = smaller battery. This screen is pretty big but so is the battery. I guess what I'm saying is battery life is pretty good with this beast. Try it out, you have 30 days.
I'll jump in here too...
I just came from a tiny I-phone 4s...which certainly fit completely inside any pocket I have...and had the same initial worry as you...I mean this Note 2 dwarfs anything out there except a full note pad after all...and I was so used to a phone of that size...
It took me 2 days...to stop fretting over it and just use it without being so self conscious of the size of it.I had to realize I had a larger phone and get used to carrying it around and be comfortable with it.
I work in Facilities Engineering at a 7 million square feet hospital and I am crawling..stooping..climbing..sliding all over the place...all the time and all I have on it right now is the original gray flip case...and I carry my Note 2 in my left shirt pocket. Yes...I do take some precautions by holding my arm across my chest when bending over...but I would do that anyway to keep my pens..testers and other stuff in place as well...
In other words...it's not too big...but...it's not completely secure either...like a much smaller phone. I have a Seidio case and belt clip on it's way to me...the same one I used for a couple of years on my Captivate..this will eliminate having to have it in my pockets and not add much bulk to it like a lot of other cases do...while providing excellent protection for it.
Right now...your suffering from "the small phone complex"...it's true...you really are...and once you get one of these and use it for a few days..and see all they can do...you will never want to go back to a small screen again...and you'll wonder why you waited so long...
Mac
It doesn't really matter what answer anybody else gives you does it? Obviously on this forum most people will think it's not too big, many others think it is too big. Why don't you figure out for yourself which camp you are in by making a rounded rectangular slab out of wood or cardboard? The Note 2 is (rounding up to the nearest mm - your slab isn't going to be perfect): 152x81x10. That's what I did and I carried it around for a while in jacket pockets, front pants pockets and cradled it in my hand. My conclusion? It's about as big as I could go - certainly in length, I could go a little wider in width to perhaps a bit beyond the Note I though I doubt Samsung will go back to that width after the number of reviewers who say they like the narrower form factor. Still haven't bought one yet, though I'm pretty close. Reading these boards and thinking about whether I want to wait for a 32 or 64 GB internal or not (probably not).

Its big but not too big.
Really should only be a problem for one handed users with small hands.
I carried it in my pocket wrapped in a micro fiber cloth (sand will scratch the screen) untill my hip case arrived. No issues carrying the phone around.
I'm mainly a one handed user with large hands and it manageable, though I is a handful. My Galaxy S II feels down right tiny now.
I'm loving the size! No complaint at all. My girls sgs3 seems so puny after using my n2 for a few days lol
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note II (SGH-I317) on the infamous AT&T Network.
I'm glad you posted this thread, OP. I've been thinking about getting the Note 2 for a few days now, but I'm having the same "tiny phone syndrome" as described earlier. Of course, I've got the SIII right now, so it's not like I'd be coming directly from my iPhone 4S. But it is amazing how the N2 makes even the SIII look small! The size is almost overwhelming... LOL.
My question to you guys that already have the N2...do you feel its a worthy upgrade to move from the SIII to the N2 or am I better off just sticking with the SIII? I was originally going to get the Nexus 4, but I cancelled my order after being relegated to backordered status. That ticked me off a bit at Google.
Even if I got the N2, I'd keep my SIII, but do you guys think its worth it?

Does SGN II White turn yellow over a period of time ?

Guys,
I am in the process of buying the SGN II - the best smartphone available these days, now I am in sort of limbo.
- The Titanium Grey Devices have a distinct gap which gathers dust around the screen, I noticed on approx 10 devices at different stores.
- I read on several blogs that the White device / body of samsung SGN II would turn yellow in about 3 months or so...!!
I am really confused now, I am even thinking if i should get the SGN II or not coz it's going to cost me 36K INR (approx. 654 USD).
Can someone please help me decide ??
Just the grey version gathers dust? Or the white as well, but you can't notice it?

I dont think this is true. I have the white one now going on 2 months now and its fine. If you look close at the White one you will notice that the white is actually not exposed at all. The white is actually coverd under a clear coat which gives it the shine that it has and the pebble smooth touch. So I would not give a penny to what or who ever you heard that from. Now on the back you have the battery door which is exposed and does not have the glass finish over it unlike the front of the phone. I have done this to get the best of both worlds. I have bought a carbon fiber/ Metal case that replaces the battery door on the phone and yes it has NFC built in the case. Does not really affect the signal for me as it replaces the door of the phone not just covers the phone completely and the OEM battery door. You whould check out this Ebay link to the case that I think will help you make up your mind.

Unfortatly I just received this cover today and had not tested the NFC located on the back cover. I just now tested it to try and beam pictures from my Galaxy Nexus over to my note 2. With the OEM battery case on the beam works fine but with this one I listed above when I put the case on the beam does not work T.T sorry for the mis information on the case. Looks like its back to using bluetooth which for me NFC is not a deal breaker since I have a international Note 2 so Google Wallet does not work anyways also I perfer blue to to NFC for only when I move pictures from time to time. Again sorry everyone

And yet it does. Sure it depends if you smoke, but the backcovers lowest section will change to yellow after a while.
I also noticed that my note 2 at times has yellowish hue but it could just as well be the interior lighting.

Yellow?! maybe it's just the moisture/sweat/grease off the hand, and over a length of time it builds up and stains the phone. Try cleaning it with some perfume that has ethanol in it. Makes your phone look brand new! and it has the feel of a new phone + smells nice. (but dont use too much of course - just a dab on a piece of cloth should do the trick.)

Book cover will wake tablet, you decide...

So, I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this yet, but there is another trinket of info that points to the book cover being actively sensed by this tablet. When poking around in settings, I happened across this little feature.

We need an Italian translator! I speak Spanish and English, so I can kinda get some of it, but he was going so fast it's hard lol
Does anyone know WHERE we can actually buy this book cover?
Man, Samsung does not make it easy. They need to support their products more. iPad 5 will have about a million accessories all over the place.

Samsung has had a terrible launch for its S-Note line. I've had my Note 3 for over a week and still no sign of official accessories anywhere whether in-store or at Amazon.
Same for the note 10.1 2014.
If you want to charge these high prices you better provide an apple-esque experience and that means no headaches for anything including finding accessories.

I was able to get a genuine S-View cover from Verizon, but only through telesales, not online or in the store.
Is that advertised anywhere? No.
Does Samsung's official site list any covers or cases? No.
They suck so bad at accessories. It's ridiculous.
Yeah Samsung's last few product launches have been the same, no accessories until a few weeks after.

That's better than Google, they take months lol
I can confirm it does wake the tablet. I don't have the smart cover, but I do have a keyboard with a "smart cover"that turns it on and off. Placing it over the screen, or even on the back, trips the magnetometer, putting the tablet to sleep. Removing it wakes it up into a quick note/dashboard type of program.
I bought a sleeve that is actually for an iPad and daynote does work. It's not working every time but every now and again I'm presented with a special screen after removing the note from its sleeve.
Best Buy tells me it will be in stock this week. Either with their Monday shipment or Thursday shipment.
We'll see. Given that their Samsung Experience employees didn't even know it was releasing the week before it did, I don't put much stock into what they say.

Before you try any magnet cases, test if the digitizer survives it. i had one on my note 8.0 and it had a big impact on the wacom digitizer, when drawing i would get close to 10mm of offset or the area around the magnet didn't work at all. When i noticed this i immediately performed a little surgery and now the case is a dumb piece of leather. Luckily i noticed it pretty quickly so i got no permanent damage. I'm not sure if permanent damage CAN be done with such a weak magnet, but look out

Wow seriously? This kind of scares me as I am using the Moko case. But you know I don't think the Note 8.0 was made to be utilized with a magnet. Seeing that the Note 10.1 2014 is made to wake up with the use of a magnet, I think they made have designed it to be magnet friendly.
I could eb wrong, because I returned my Note 8.0
Yes, you might be right but look out. You dont want a tablet thats at a higher price because of something that breaks because of you not using a correct case.
Ps. In the second sentence "you" is meant for everyone and not to offend Slim
Does their official book cover have a magnet?
Edit: The prototype at the Samsung show did not. Hmm.

On the Note 3, the "View" cover uses a Hall effect sensor I have read.
What I noticed about this cover is that it seems to cover the camera when it is folded over the back??

Nope, they don't really know release dates on anything. I've been asking the Samsung guy about Note 3 cases, he tells me a day, and they never come in.
Was just over at BB today, asking him if they had the cases, when another lady came up and wanted to know also. WTF, is up with Samsung and the slow releases of these accessories for both Note 3 and 10.1??

A hall effect sensor requires a magnet.

Heh! Yeah you're right!
Here's what I was thinking when I said that.
The magnet can be on either side. So not necessarily on the cover. "Could" be steel on the cover, but probably not.
Like for instance, I am putting a hall sensor on a Motorcycle presently. The magnet is in the sensor itself. The trigger wheel is steel.
So steel goes through the field and causes the trigger.
But it seems that the magnet here "should" be on the cover. Otherwise all steel would trigger the sensor and screw with the display.
I did run a magnet near my screen and couldn't get it to switch even after fooling with the S-View settings.
