Wrong Battery Status - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
my wildfire can't charge more than 5% i know it is not battery fault because i have used two different batteries.
i wiped my battery 5 times i wiped everything a changed my Rom Changed my kernel.i am using CM7.
i read this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11803458&postcount=10
but it is for Motorolla and when i pull out battery my phone turns off immediately.
i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597846 but it didn't work for me.
i tried to restore my phone to official rom with RUU but i can't because it says that your battery must be more than 30% so i don't know how to do that thank you everyone please guide me?

Try installing battery caliberation from play storeand follow the instructions given in the app. It might help.

i think it's software problem not hardware because i changed the battery with another battery which was used in another phone and it was full but in my phone the battery status was 11% when i put it again to another willy it was 95%.

It doesn't charge after 5% or it doesn't show more than 5% battery? Huge difference between the 2

Exactly. And if it is like that, then use the calibration tool while your phone it on charge.
Again asking for clarifying....is you phone not charging beyond some % or is your phone not showing the charge beyond some %
?

I am having a similar problem but mine doesn't charge beyond 75-80% depending upon when I have plugged it for charging.
If I start charging at say 50%+ it charges beyond 80% but does not fully charge, and if I start at say <40% it does not go beyond 74%.
Now at this level if I restart my willy the battery shows 90+% and I can charge it to 100%.
I have tried everything wiping the battery stats, using the calibration tool nothing's really working. I doubt when I used a Samsung charger for charging that's where the electrical circuit might have got damaged or may be when when I dropped it from 4-5ft.
Since I have already rooted it I don't think HTC service center will help me here with motherboard or electrical changes.
If you guys know any method lease let me know and btw it's >1.5 yr old battery.
Thanks

can you explain more?shall i charge it then remove battery and then start charging again and again?i could reach to 42% woooow but not 100%.
can anyone change the codes of battery by making a flashable patch for just showing 100% of battery(not real status) i need this for calibrating my battery.but batterystats.bin wasn't useful

This issue may have been solved, but I'll post anyway.
You can calibrate your battery when it's lower than 100% using the app mentioned above. There is an option within the app to calibrate it regardless of battery percentage, just click that option then calibrate.
Hope it helps,
Francis.

I've said it before and Ill say it again. 20% shutdown is just a problem with battery calibration, its not a problem with capacity. Even though you phone shuts down at 20% the capacity is unchanged. The easiest solution to the problem is just to remember that 20% = 0% for you and live with it. Going through a lengthy fix is not worth it imo.

Cant remember where I read the original article (think it may have even been on XDA front page) but her is another one I found after 30 seconds of using the google machine, which has some very pretty graphs that may enlighten you.
http://78michel.unblog.fr/htc-desire-battery-shutdown-analysis/
And the conclusion is *drum roll please*
"As the discharge current is constant and almost identical in all tests, it is clear that the old batteries ( Part number xx-01M and xx-05M) have both lost about 15% of their initial capacity as they stop about 15% earlier.
Why the HTC Desire ( and may be some other smartphone ?) is not able to take into account such a capacity loss?"
You are very welcome.

If I might observe that you're very cocky for someone who failed in his statement and then linked to the article that proves that fail.
Indeed, article is true, up to the point we all know now, thanks to theGanymedes research, why battery percentage and capacity get misaligned, with wonderful guide how to fix it easily, au contrair to what you said.

So I see two possible things at work:
a) lapsus linguae due to lack of punctuation, so even if you thought that the as it's age grows battery looses it's capacity (which is kinda self explanatory), it was not what you expressed.
b) you stated that as battery grows older, it's capacity remains unchanged, and if you can find a proof of that, you should be hired by some of battery manufacturers.
Either way, your rhetoric goes with situations where you are 100% right and can not get disproved, which you have been here. I strongly suggest not to pursue that path any longer here.

Well, making the long story short I decided not to calibrate the battery. It's a long process and terminates if the phone is charged while it is off.
I flashed a different rom and kernel. Getting 20-22hr battery (100%-20%)
My 80% battery provides me almost a full long day. So I'm happy with this. Btw thanks for the help folks.

BATTERY CALIBRATION
Hi!
As we know when we install a new rom we sometimes have battery drain or when we flash a new kernel etc..... what is this?? this means that your battery goes to 0% very quickly!
The normal steep is goes to recovery and wipe battery stats!!
but what i do if in recovery don't appear something like wipe battery stats??
simple!! be sure that your nexus is completely charged, download this app ,, tap on battery calibration !! (after that charge your nexus without break)and congratulations.... buy a beer and make a party!!
I don't made this app.... just share it....
i will upload the link in a note pad... why?? simple.... i can't put links!!!
There is no need for battery calibration. Just discharge to 0% then charge back to 100% and you should be good to go.

The myth of wiping battery stats was thoroughly debunked almost a year and a half ago. It is a 100% true statement that neither this app nor wiping battery stats in recovery has ever affected anyone's battery life or battery indication in any way, shape, or form.
Want to know why battery drains after flashing a new rom or kernel? Hint- it has absolutely nothing to do with incorrect battery stats- totally disregarding the fact for a moment that batterystats.bin has absolutely nothing to do with battery charge indication.. After flashing a new rom, your device is actually using more battery than usual as accounts are set up and synced. Likewise, after flashing a new kernel, it takes a short amount of time for the kernel to "settle."
If you still believe the myth that battery stats need to be wiped every now and again, there's an even easier way to do it than wiping in recovery or using some snake oil app... charge your device to full or near full and then unplug it from the charger. Voila- you've just successfully wiped battery stats!

Strange battery behavior
It's actually odd, my battery started getting stuck at 100% like a week ago or so, after 11 hrs standby time and 30 mins screen-on time, it doesn't even drop 1%. However, it shuts down normally at 1%. I actually tried so many things to fix this, i opened the back cover and pulled the battery out, i let it run dead and charge it all the way up, but it just seems to like that 100% mark. Since it actually shuts down at 1%, i wanted to make sure it's completely dead, so i booted into recovery and oddly, with max brightness in twrp, it took about 15 mins for the device to completely shut down.
Any ideas what might fix this?

Bear in mind that you optimally do not want to discharge the battery to the point of shutdown. Doing so shortens its lifespan, and can trigger the N7 to go into a hibernation mode on order to protect the battery from permanent unrecoverable damage due to a deep discharge.

The app has nothing to do with it as the only thing it clears is the list of processes that have operated on battery since the last full or near full charge.
The only "calibration" that an end user can perform entails a complete discharge/charge cycle. This resets the flags for the battery's internal fuel gauge.

This is all the recalibration the device needs.
Naja is 99% correct. It's not the only calibration you can do (you can wipe stats), but it's the only one you should need to do.
batteryuniversity.com has a couple of good articles on the care and feeding of Li-Ion batteries. There is a lot of less than accurate info that floats around about batteries. The above site is a good way to learn the difference.

Perhaps is there another reason. When you install a new rom, you must wait several cycles of charge/discharge to have a good battery life.
So, interrupt his charging cycle isn't the best way for battery life. And yes, you must wipe your battery stats to.
Now my battery died, when i plug charger, sometimes led blink 2 times with red light, and it's over. I will replace it. I pray for battery issue, not motherboard. What do you think about this problem?
I had the same issue under Sense 5 roms.
With the phone on and charging I never reached more than 60% of battery even using battery optimizer.
The solution for me has been back to a 4.2 AOSP Rom (ICJ in my case) and a couple of cycles again my battery works as usual.
I tried again with a S5 rom and the issues are back, so I have to use no Sense 5 roms if I want my battery right.
You can also try to charge in Recovery, that worked for me, to wake the bootloader.
Hope this would be useful for you.
Cheers.
PD. Sorry for my english
Have you tried a stock sense 5.0 rom?

This week i found something that seemed to be a issue like the one reported here. My phone goes without battery before i got to sleep. I got my phone to charge on the Wall charger (HTC OEM). When i woke up i figured out that my battery only charged up to 15% (Froze at 15%)
It is the second time this has happened since the Sense 5 update (OTA Update).
Never happened before.

[Q] Battery calibration woes

Hi guys. I'm having a heck of a time with my new tab. I appear to have something of a calibration issue with the battery. At the moment, it won't boot without the charger plugged in and displays 42 percent charge when charged while the device is off. I have tried wiping the battery stats via twrp with no luck. It still won't operate without the charger plugged in. The only thing that will work is recovery and sometimes Odin. I checked the battery voltage in twrp via terminal and it displayed 4.3 ish volts. As far as I know, that's the full charge voltage. Why, then, is it not seeing it as fully charged? Any input would be greatly appreciated
Maybe my SGT-7.7 battery scaling (fuel gauge reset) guide will help.
Our tab uses the same fg_reset_cap
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398663
Don't forget the relevant spaces in the command between echo "1" > /sys....... (or just copy/paste it to avoid errors)
Other than that, maybe the battery is defective?

Well, I'm giving the calibration a go. I did manage to get it booting again. Currently letting it charge. Not too hopeful but the alternative is paying Samsung for repairs because its already rooted and the warranty void. First device I've ever had issues with after rooting, funnily enough. Well, I tried calibrating the battery but clearly, the voltage is too low and that is what is causing the issue. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I can manage to get it to turn on but it turns off without warning. No shutdown sequence, just dies. Checking the voltage with Battery HD, it fluctuates between 4.2, which I take to be normal and 3.0 which I know is way too low. I've bought an external battery and I'm trying to charge it with that. It may not work but my only other option is sending it to Samsung. I guess as a last ditch effort I could simply disassemble it and reconnect the battery, which I've read often works but I have a feeling this isn't an easy to disassemble device.
Send it back for battery replacement

I still believe it's bad advice. ....
Many many examples in XDA where users have discharge the battery completely and damaged the battery or the battery falls "asleep" (internal safety circuit opens) with the charger then unable to service the battery. The only solutions were to try charge/wake battery with high current AC charger or battery replacement.
In OP case, appears to be defective battery.

i'll give this a shot. i really hate to see my tablet going nuts over what's its real battery percentage. crossing my fingers
The battery appears to still work and even hold a small charge. The problem is that the software is telling the battery it is fully charged and is cutting off (my theory). I did a number of battery calibration methods while the battery was at the low voltage. I'm thinking the battery meter now thinks 3.5v or so is a full charge. At 3.5v, it'll say 100 percent, then with some use, it's down to 2 percent (according to the meter) in minutes. I really don't think the battery is dead. Battery University even states that over 90 percent of returned "defective" batteries are perfectly fine and are simply problematic because of other issues. The battery might be dead but I refuse to give up on it. Does anyone know a way to completely reset the battery meter?
monitoring the battery and it's fluctuating, could also be a bad battery but too bad, knox void meter has been tripped. I wont be able to send this to sammy for service/battery replacement. i'll give UpInTheAir's method another shot. else. i'll call it a day and will go to sammy and perhaps, swallow their bnew battery replacement price.
This did it for me! Thanks UpInTheAir. 20 hrs with normal usage and im currently at 52%. I guess a few more charge/discharge cycle and i'd be able to squeeze out the battery's full potential

Aww. I guess i spoke too soon, battery stats keeps on jumping. Would you advise twrp installation + battery stats wipe? I already lost my warranty when I rooted so i'll do all possible resolutiin first before sending this for battery replacement (might cost an arm and leg though) *sigh*

If that doesn't work. ...
I personally would;
1. Download your full firmware package
2. Install TWRP and full backup to external sdcard
3. Format system, data, cache, wipe dalvik cache
4. Boot into DL mode and flash firmware

Charging Troblems

Samsung Galaxy tab 3 7" SM-T210R. Recently my tablet has been having problems charging. Like when I plug it it it takes forever to charge. Before I could use it and it would also charge. Now when I charge it and use it, it stays at the percentage it was at when it began charging. Sometimes when I unplug it, it'll be lower than before. When I put it on charge over night (6hours) it'll get to 100%. I'm still using the original charger that came with the tablet. Any help would be thanked.

Me too
Exactly have the same problem, I'd like to ask first, are you rooted? What rom are you using? Because that could be the issue, I'm rooted and I'm using nolekat rom. It takes me 10 hrs or more to fully charge and it drains half the time fast. The percentage on the battery jumps higher then goes lower and it decreases while I'm charging and using it and I'm not doing anything heavy. I already tried using the battery calibration app which most people recommend to troubleshoot first, it didn't work for me. I suggest that you try calibrating first and if it doesn't work, reflash your current rom if you're rooted, if you aren't, it could be your charger and I also know my charger isn't faulty. Last thing I'll suggest is try manually removing your battery for 5mins then put it back in. I haven't tried that yet, I need the tools still. Hope this helps and let me know what you've done.

I had a similar problem... Used the Battery Doctor app to figure out that some components were running all the time..
Just reflashed it with same rom and problem is now gone.

thanks for the advice. I recently removed the rom i was running. it helped Thank you very much. I also removed my battery by opening my device with the back end of a knife it you do it gently it really doesnt scratch your device plus if you have a case/skin you can't see the part where you wedge the knife. Thank you !
Did you all get a Refurbished tab? I ask because I was just about to get one.... But not if they all have battery trouble.
