[Q] Need help to root Galaxy Gio - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hello, Today I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Gio. Then I installed Rom Manager. But when I tried to Flash ClockWork Mod Recovey my device is not being displayed in the list that appears. So I am stuck. Please let me know how to proceed. My Android version is 2.3.3 Early help will be really appreciated. I want to install Cyanogen Mod 9.1. Hope to hear soon.
Thanks

It's better to flash CWM via Recovery. Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32202039&postcount=4

Does it start at all? Cause i think you hardbricked your phone. Check my stickied thread for more details about rom manager.

umm he actually means tht he couldnt install CWM via ROM manager because his gio wasnt listed

And why using ROM Manager to install CWM? I think it's easier to install it via Recovery.

Thanks for the replies. Really appreciate the prompt replies. I have not bricked my phone as I was not able to Flash Clock Work Mod recovery. I have uninstalled the ROM Manager. Could you please ellaborate as to how to flash CMW via Recovery? My phone' android version is 2.3.3 This is the first time I am rooting my phone so I dont have that much of knowledge.
Thanks

Search xda for 'superoneclick' for root
Than use home+power buttons to enter recovery mode and install cwm-v2.zip or something.
But you should have root acces already otherwise theres no sense you installed rom manager

In the post it is written that the phone should have Android version above 2.3.3 Now please tell me that will I not be able to download it as my phone is on Gingerbread 2.3.3? Will this work on my phone if I install? Here is the link of the post -:

well sounds like you already have the latest Clockwork installed? if so, I believe UnRevoked comes with a downgraded version so I would try and downgrade the version on your phone see if it helps
Well I'm able to go into recovery it's just when I try and use rom manager or titanium backup it comes up saying the phone doesn't have root privileges so I thought it wasnt rooted properly. If I'm rooted because I can go into recovery and it shows s= off in h boot then how do I fix the privileges part of it all?

This happened to me after I used unrevoked. It ran successfully, I tested w/ rom manager and it worked. I then rebooted a few minutes later and tried using several other root apps and none could obtain root privelages. So, I flashed a custom ROM (cyanogen 6.1) then had full root access again. Maybe that will help?

[Q] How do i install CWM recovery on arc s running ICS

Hi, i recently upgraded my arc LT15i to an arc s LT18i with ICS, all is working well with no problems. I want to install cwm recovery onto my phone as i want to flash more mods. After looking around i see you need cwm recovery in case it all goes wrong. I have installed rom manger from the market place but when i try to flash cwm recovery it asks if i have installed a cwm based recovery manually ( i haven't) i select no and it tells me that until cwm recovery is available, rom manager will not work with LT18i. Can anyone help or advise. I am fairly new to this flashing business so simple terms please.
Thanks

make this
[HOW-TO] CWM on ICS
To have CWM on phone,
For locked bootloader, use Xperia Auto Installer. Can be download at market.
For unlocked bootloader, flash custom kernel with CWM like Stock ICS kernel with CWM, ArcKnight and Doomkernel.
You can search custom kernel here

But it works fine on ics. bare in mind that my app installs cwm into the system recovery. And if you have an unlocked.bootloader your better off getting a kernel with cwm. Or getting the stock kernel with cwm put in to the ramdisk
Oh one note the app will break offline charging. I have a fix.in my thread for it tho and as soon as my pc will compile.apps again I'll release a new version on the market.

i know i`m rooted but the main problem is the radio, its causing heavy loss of speed over wifi network so i`m asking for the root on stock 2.2.1 wherein wifi works perfect and if i am not wrong its the radio downgrade that used to happen during the actual rooting process of downgrading the O.S. after S-OFF`ing the device so i also mentioned about the radio onto my actual post.
Ah, okay, to root stock firmwares you need to download a superuser.zip.

Download the recovery from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?398dklf1uzss5f6
Put it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders)
Boot the phone into the bootloader
Allow the update
Turn phone off and remove SD card
Boot into the recovery
If you did all this correct, you should now have CWM recovery installed.

Yes, boot into the OS and put the file on your SD card, then boot back into the bootloader.
Also once you have got a stock rom rooted download this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...utm_medium=organic&utm_term=busybox+installer and install busybox as some root apps won't work without it....

This thread found right below my post will be of the most importance to you involving your current situation with your recovery. If you go to the CWM team website, I have linked here and browse the list of phones you'll find that the touch recovery for the AT&T variant is at 6.0.1.4. Just right click on the version number, (Don't left click as it will come up with a page full of random symbols.) and press save as and save it to the desktop. This is the bare .img file. It will have the full file name but before saving it rename it to; (without quotes) "recovery.img". After that follow the steps in the link below in order to flash it with ADB. (Since the other recommended ways aren't working for you).

ROM manager does not recognize the touch recovery since technically it is still considered experimental. Only the basic volume control recovery is recognized. This goes with saying with the free version of this app installed. I however, am not sure as to whether it recognizes it after upgrading to premium as it is a premium feature of ROM Manager.

Its alright if it isn't recognized by ROM Manager. As I said it is still considered "experimental" so it isn't supported by the app. I have had the premium version installed and it wouldn't let me flash the CWM-T through the app. Only when I used ADB did I get through. Still says nothing is installed. Just a little glitch on the developer's side if anything. Don't stress about it, once you can boot into your recovery your good.

[Q] Still without root...

So, I have tried time and time again, and am still no closer to getting my phone rooted. I have spent hours reading all over these forums, and Google in general, and have yet to get a straight answer to my question as to why my phone refuses to root.
I am thankful for the advice offered, such as trying SuperOneClick that does... well, nothing. [Says my device has no drivers, yet,. Windows sees my phone as an Android device, and the program generally locks up after]. Was told that my image is faulty, and yet, somehow it's still installed on the device/working fine. [Was suggested to re-download the CW MOD image, and re-install] And it just goes on and on... then silence from the community.
So, to boil it down to the nitty-gritty, the only thing I am getting is, while I -attempt- to install SuperUser via CW, I get this:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed!
So, please, someone, assist me in getting my phone rooted!

try installing superSU...
Now, super one click ... don't use it, it isn't for our roms.
you should be using Odin to flash CW, and then downloading roms and flashing with CW
If you want support from the community, why not offer more information...
What are you running now ? UCLH ? UCLJ ? Jellybean, Gingerbread, ICS ? How did you obtain the version that is running on your phone now ?
i've discovered the only way to root Gingerbread is to download a pre-rooted rom.
ICS, install CW w/ Odin and then flash supersu or superuser .... There was, at a time, I couldn't get ICS to root and had to download a specific SU or SuperSU not on google store that I found by searching the forums ....
Give us more info, as much and as detailed as possible and we can help you further.

I used the official update from Samsung when it was fully released... finally. So, running 4.0.4.
What's SuperSU? Is that different?
For more details, I posted already to the fourms here before they went silent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35750419 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35811065
As you can see, I tried everything, it's like my phone's being annoying... is it do-able to just re-set the phone to stock Gingerbread, and then just update using another ROM? And, if so, what one do I use? I just want a stable experience. Like, with the leak that came out not too long before the official, there was the keyboard error, and I even had issues with placing and receiving calls...
At this point, it's getting to the point where I am willing to basicly go back to out-of-the-box, then root the sucker, if I can do that. Seems perhaps a clean slate is in order, anywho.
Thanks for the quick reply, though.

It has been some time since I have used ICS. I had completed the stock download from samfirmware.com, installed CWM 6 with Odin 1.85 and (taadaa) attached to this thread the same version of Superuser I used to install via CWM.

From my computer, via USB, and not likely at all. Every component is new, and to make it more amusing, I did all this in the past with the leaked ROM before I got this new system on my last compy, so, yeah... if -both- computers does the -exact- same thing... prolly time to format the phone, and try again, somehow?

Thanks for the reply... think it's time to just tell the phone to start all over, try again?

..okes.. I feel like somewhat of an idiot. I decided to just try one last time to get the recovery mod in there again, and, for whatever stupid reason, instead of seeing a blank background with the Android, I saw the CW icon, and a silver icon... I told it to apply SuperUser as I have tried so many other times, and it just... worked.
The closest thing I can figure is that my browser, and my eyes told me that I had multiple copies of the current CW Mod, but, in my working directory, I unzipped the -old- version.
To make it simple; I -now- have root on my Glide, woot!

I didn't realize that CW hadn't installed properly for you ... good to know it's working for you now! ..
