What's the best brand of USB cables? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

OK the backstory: I bought 2 vzw gnexs new about 3 months ago. Both my wife's and my USB cables have become so loose they are just about useless. I bought a new cable from vzw and after a couple weeks it's now shot as well as my car charger. I try and be as gentle as possible but I guess its not good enough.
The question: what brand makes the most durable USB cables? I know about the palm touchstone mod, just don't trust myself enough to do it.

you should never operate the phone with the cable plugged in for one. micro usb isnt a supported enough connection to allow that, in most cases it weakens the pins. I personally use cheap chinese brand usb cables that work fine for a couple months and i pitch em.

I personally use Monoprice cables (for just about everything, but also for my phone).

They are high quality but very inexpensive. All cables will wear out over time and become loose, but all Monoprice cables have a lifetime warranty.

+1 for Monoprice.
Good quality and reasonably priced.

On my Atrix I use a Nokia cable from my old phone, its built as tough as the Nokia phone itself.

Verizon offers a decent warranty on all faulty equipment, so stating something like a noise from my AC adapter would make them replace it. For me this was true so they replaced it with an ok replacement, but I now have a 6 ft usb cable and a 3 footer so I am happy. I buy cheap ones but personally the OEM cables are the nice ones for me.

I've been using the Motorola micro USB cable that came with my Atrix 4G since u had that phone a couple of years ago. Since then I have gone through 3 vze Samsung cables and a few Chinese ones but the Motorola still works like new, its not even loose.

What the hell do people do with their USB cables? I have 3 year old cables from the original generation of Android phones that still are working fine, and I use the phone occasionally while it is charging.

I typically lose mine, no idea how. I lost one of my SGS cables, my gnex cable, plus my kindle cable broke(i used it a lot, since it was the longest). Now i ordered 6 cables from aliexpress, they appear to be high quality flat cables(anti tangle type, plus looks really nice). Should be coming in a couple of weeks.

Bandridge. Can't go wrong. Super resistant and well built.

I have a 1.80meter Belkin for 6 months ago and I haven't any problem. It's resistant and work very well for charging and data.

I agree that monoprice is almost the best deal around. And their customer support is actually not bad.
If the cable you are buying is less than ten feet in length, get the most inexpensive cable on monoprice. Signal degradation over distance would lead you to want a better cable over ten feet. Anything short of that, inexpensive is fine.

Micro USB replacement cable

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good replacement micro USB cables. Mine has started to act funky and only charges correctly at a certain angle.
I know there are several cheap cables out there on Amazon and eBay but I was looking for something reliable such that if I flash through Odin or some type of future Bootloaders I do not wanna risk bricking my phone because of a bad cable.
Can anyone suggest or link me to official and not knockoff Samsung cables or some other alternative that works well. If not can on suggest a reliable Brand that I can search for.
Thanks.
Belkin make very good cables indeed. I have several; give them a shot. They're not overpriced, either.
I would stay away from the cheap ebay ones (as you said) - they don't seem to work correctly, never seem to charge/connect to my S3 properly.

my favorite cable and charger is the Amazon Kindle charger and cable. Especially the cable. I have a few of them and buy more as funds allow.
I've bought about 5 of these and they work perfect. They are very similar to the stock one from the S2. Shipping is free and was pretty fast.

I hate that Samsung Galaxy S cable. It comes off way too easy.
My favorite one is Logitech cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Lo...556?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336a98f674 . I have few because they come with the devices. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with HTC OEM cable. Only $1 on ebay and it works great.

This is the type of cables that I use. I bought 8 of them last year, and I have put them in my car, my wifes car, my daughters car (with cheap USB chargers of course). I put chargers on a couple of my motorcycles using them. I have a pair of bluetooth intercoms for my helmets that need micro-USB chargers for them both. I had to buy another bag of 8. I've given a couple of them away. So I have about a dozen charge connections, and only about $25.
There is no reason to pay more the $2 each for these cables. The USB works on them. They charge over USB. They charge at the high charge rate. They work correctly and they are reliable. And if one of them DOES ever fail, I won't feel bad.

Stay away from the 89c cables from Hong Kong, they are horrible quality and don't conform to USB wiring standards. I had a bad experience the other day when I tried to plug the emergency cable I keep in my bag into my S3, wouldn't go in, I thought I'd somehow bent the charging port on my S3 but really it was just the ****ty cable.
Both ports connect perfectly to cell phone and computer. - The length of the cable is the right size (90 cm), not too long and not too short. - I have been using it for some weeks and it works fine for both transferring data and recharging my phone.http://dx.com/p/usb-charging-data-cable-for-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-90cm-length-59092
Although monoprice are quality the cable's micro usb side(metal part) isn't as long as the Samsung cable and they don't tend to stay in as well. But it's not that bad but noticeable. I love monoprice besides shipping costs

Working 6FT micro usb charging cables

Does anyone know where I can get properly working 6ft micro usb cables that actually charge the phone?
I bought one off ebay and it was completly junk, my phone would drain faster than it would charge.
Something under $10 would be ideal.
Thanks

Amazon, purchase the mediabridge brand. About 6 bucks if I remember right.

Might also consider MonoPrice.com for your cables. They are cheap and supposed to be as reliable as any big brand.
Personally, I get the Amazon Basic cables, but so far I've only needed a maximum 3' cable.

AmazonBasics USB Cable 2.0 A-Male to B-Micro 6 Feet / 1.8 m
Been using it for a month now. Charges the phone perfectly
I have bought many cables from digitalkynectonline on Ebay. The cables have held up very good. I have bought 6ft and 10ft cables and they are reasonably priced. The ends are molded unlike some of the cheap cables you get on ebay. The cord is heavier than than alot to and seems to take alot of abuse.
Try out PortaPow
I got this for my road trip and found it extremely effective in providing AC power when a normal cable (the one that came with my HTC) did USB charging.
This allowed me to charge while streaming music and navigation and kept the phone fully charged my whole road trip. It works in any computer or USB port to allow AC charging for your phone

Another vote for Mediabridge. Very inexpensive, very well constructed, and they stand by their products. Had one go bad and they replaced it very quickly. Great people to deal with.

Where to buy the original Mcs-04wr and original premium usb cable that came with the

I looked all over, but i could not find the original Mcs-04wr (1.8a) and original premium usb cable (thick grade cable) that came with the At&t LG-E980. I could always buy an anker charger or a verizon thick grade 2.1a rapid charger. Although the cable that came with this phone is the best i have seen so far, as its premium thick grade, and it of course fits the phone perfectly and tight. Unlike the premium thick grade monoprice usb cables that even know the quality appears to be good, the connection to the Lg Optiumus Pro G loosens quickly sometimes in just matter of days making your charge go on and off.
Anybody know where to get the original cord and cable? Or any ideas?
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk 4
hi.
I saw that one also at ebay. That's not like the premium thick grade usb cable that comes with the At&t-E980 is it? Cause that cable is thicker than any Usb cable I have ever seen included with a new smartphone.

Looks like one of the thinner thickness grade cables. I had one left over from an old Samsung charger. It seemed to work. I am looking for either the original cable or one that fits well of the same grade.
Right now i settled on the OEM-Samsung-ETA-U90JWE-White-2-0-Charger-For-Samsung-Galaxy-S4. It has a thicker premium grade usb cable. Not sure if they upgraded the size even further for the Gs4. This is also the original charger that came with the white At&t Note 2. i will see when i get it:

No. Doesn't seem like you would find the very latest stuff there though would you?
I am very happy with the Galaxy S4 / Note 2 chargers + usb cables that I previously referenced. They are the most highest quality 2.0a compliant I could find except the Verizon Rapid Chargers. They charge my Lg Optimus Pro G and my Astro 3 2nd Generation 12000 external battery at full speed. The chargers/cables also appear to be authentic with code tags, Samsung label on the usb cable bags, and a verizon tag on the usb cables.

[Q] Nexus 5 ruining Micro USB Cables?

I'm not sure if it's just me or that I'm just buying cheap cables but my Nexus 5 basically eats Micro USB Cables in terms of a loose connection between the connector and port. My 2 Amp Blackberry charger only lasted about 2 months (I was recommended by someone who says it was the fastest charger for Nexus 5) and now only works when at a slight angle. I just bought a JuiceBitz Premium Cable (Can't post links but Amazon has them) and within two weeks just destroyed the connector. I never had this problem with any other phone, just wondered if it's a Nexus 5 problem...
I've had the exact same issue.
Same problem here.
Its been almost one and half year for me using the stock usb cable. It still works fine for me, no issue at all. But in last few months, i am feeling that its getting lose in the port, still no trouble, but i think it wont be same for the next 3-4 months.
Still, almost 2 years, I wont say that's bad.
I've had the Nexus 5 since it's release and the blackberry 2amp charger as well. I have 4 of them because I thought they would wear and tear like all other chargers, but it didn't. Still on my original first blackberry charger and it looks new still. It's a user problem not a phone problem.

Not using the htc cable and charger causes a problem?? Is there any truth in it?

Spotted these on my Google feed and it got me wondering.
http://m.androidcentral.com/my-htc-10-hates-pixel-c-charger
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/phandroid.com/2016/05/18/htc-10-usb-type-c-incident/amp/
I've personally used the following chargers with a lot of USB C cables.
HP elite x2
Huawei 6P
Galaxy s5
IPhone 4/5/6/7
Usb 3 on a laptop /pc
To name but a few, the chap in the article says that his phone superheated, my phone obviously gets hot /warm /warmish when charging but no more than I'd expect.
I'd prefer not to shorten my batteries life expectancy and I know it's probably best practice to only use the htc charger, but would these other chargers actually do any damage?
I also never overcharge my devices and I've not had any problems as yet.
Anyone else had any issues?
Cheers

I have several cables and chargers because I travel and work and spend time in different rooms in my house, I'm not going to cart one charger around with me all the time, if I did it would be a first on any phone.
Its just when I read about it I can't remember seeing an issue with chargers / cables on previous devices.
Hyperbole stuff. The cable themselves support up to 20V/5a. The phones he is testing on supports PD1.0 not 2.0 or 3.0(3.0 currently being developed). The cables are agnostic and if you use a wall charger then you will be fine. You just have to watch out for knock offs, or cheap crap that cut corners.
