You can flash as many ROMs as you want, you will not loose the unlock. You can check where the phone came from by the software code, but don't bother with it. Go to sammobile.com download latest software for your carrier and flash it with Odin. If you want to root it and try some jelly bean ROMs you can get rooted software for your carrier here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426

Unlocked Updates but AT&T?

I'm looking for an unlocked Note II and have found one for a reasonable price but it's an AT&T version although it is indeed unlocked. Will I get updates at the same time as the international version or would I have to wait for an AT&T update?
Also, is it possible to flash/sideload the 4.2 camera apk without rooting?

You'll get the updates when the ATT version gets the update. The upgrade really goes by Model number and then region. Your model number is still SGH-I317.
Being unlocked just enable you to use a non-att sim card
Correct if it's just unlocked, you should have no problem getting updates.
If it's unlocked and a good deal, I assume you getting it from a private seller. Just be careful not to buy a stolen phone, they will block it by IMEI.
Just get one that is locked and unlock it yourself. Don't pay extra for one that's unlocked. There is a thread here on xda that shows you how to unlock the GN2 jus by entering a few codes.

Yes, you can flash 4.2 camera with no problems. I did.

If I did get the SGH ATT model, could I flash the N7100 stock image to it without rooting? If so, how would I do it?
And someone said the 4.2 camera can be flashed without root. How is this done?
You need to do some searching and reading, all the information you need can be found here on XDA.
But before you get in to trouble flashing I will tell you that you should not flash a ROM that is not made for you model (SGH_i317). If you have an AT&T phone only flash ROMs from the AT&T development section.

What you mean locked?
If sim locked vs sim unlocked, no diff
If rooted vs unrooted, no diff
If stock rom vs custom rom, then you cant update via tmobile unless you restore custom recovery and rom, but now you can use all the awesome custom roms out there (who'll incorporate all the updates anyways)

Unlock Galaxy Ace 2 - Help please

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy Ace II from Orange UK and would like it unlocked, as the high-street unlocking shops says it is not helpful.
I went through this site and could not find much information.
Even if I am able to unlock it via flash and root, will my phone get locked once I get the Jellybean update?
Sorry for being a noob.
Thanks

I never have unlocked a phone, but did you try flashing a stock firmware from sammobile? Only a assumption.

i had hoped this to be true (ive got a GT-I8160 locked to EE) after a lot of research ive found that even the default BTU which doesn't contain any operator branding - still doesn't effect the network lock of the phone.
in plain english:
if your phone is locked ... (like mine is) you need get it unlocked with Sgtool - zx3 - octopus or the like..
there are no free methods - ive found a shop near me where the guy knows what he is talking about (btw phone needs to be rooted) so i will get him to do mine tomorrow

[Q] Unlock AT&T Galaxy S3

Hey guys,
I have an ATT Galaxy S3 but I recently switched to TMobile. I don't have the sim card yet, hopefully get it tomorrow, but my ATT sim card has been deactivated. Since I need to unlock my phone to use Tmobile, I was looking at some forums and I could do it using the dialpad and pressing *#197328640# and following some steps. But I read that this was possible in only a 4.1.1 ROM?
Right now I have MIUI v5. Do I have to downgrade in order to use the *#197328640# code and unlock?
Cheers!
You must be running stock 4.1.1 in order to have the necessary menu options.
Have you ever been on the 4.3 OTA? Or the 4.3 bootloader? If you haven't been on them you can use Odin to go back to 4.1.1 however if you have the 4.3 bootloaders and you try you will certainly have a hard bricked phone that might be recoverable via SD card or you will need a jtag.

[Q] Unlock Samsung S3 SGH-i747M (possible???)

Hello everybody
I have a Samsung S3 SGH-i747M (from Canada) with 4.4.2 and version I747MVLUFNE6 which is locked. It asks for "SIM network unlock PIN".
Is there any way (I don't care for the warranty) to make it work with an other SIM? I am currently in Switzerland.
Thank you very much in advance!
No you'll have to either call the original carrier of the phone and request the code or pay for the unlock code.

Do you know a reliable site where I can ask for the code?
There's lots of them out there. Pretty sure eBay has some and you can judge by their feedback and ratings...can't think of any specific ones right now though.

The problem is that I don't know at which carrier belonged the phone and one page that I found, that doesn't require the carrier and I think read that is reliable (swiftunlock.com), does not include the i747m in the list.
Any ideas or any other sites?
Any that offer it for the I747M should work. Don't take my word for it though. Ask the vendor first.

All the sites that i found ask for the carrier which I don't know or to have the phone rooted and have a version lower than 4.1.1 which I don't .
Is there any way to find out at which carrier it belonged?
Or any other reliable solution?
Please... :crying:
Go yo swappa.com and check the imei. I think it shows the original carrier when it does the check.

Free method will not work unless the bootloader is from 4.1.2 or lower.

That maybe true.....but I do know it doesn't work with ICS or JB 4.1.2 because [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ does not show in menu.

Once you are on the 4.3 ot 4.4.2 bootloader, you cannot downgrade the bootloader and the 4.1.1 modem will not work on the 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader.
You must be on at least the 4.1.1 dialler and modem.

damnit, just saw this. Is there any way to downgrade to unlock the SIM? What about if im on a different ROM?
There is no free way to sim unlock your phone once you have the 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader on your phone.
How to know on which bootloader ( bootloader 4.4.2 or 4.3) I am coz I was able to install a custom rom on my SGH-I747M The rom is dirty unicorn android 5.1.1 lolipop rom so Can I downgrade coz if I remember correctly I upgraded from stock 4.1.1 so can I downgrade to stock 4.1.1 by downloading and injecting it via odin is it possible or will it hard brick my phone and can you give me way to confirm what bootloader I have ???
Boot into download mode and look at the screen. If you see anything about knox, it likely the bootloader can't be downgraded to 4.1.1.

Can you guide me that how to know which bootloader do you have i.e. do I have a 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader how would I know that? and also I do have a custom dirtyunicorn rom with 5.1.1 so is it possible for me to flash the 4.1.1 stock SGH-I747M rom to it and then unlock it and then again add my current rom and use it???
Download and install the Samsung phone info app from the play store, run it, and look at the last three characters of the bootloader. If it is mk3 or higher, the bootloader can't be downgraded.

Not quite sure where to put this but I have just successfully sim unlocked a samsung galaxy s3 sgh-i747m on 4.4.2 .This is only prelimary but upon unlocking and inserting a Public Mobile sim I was able to text on a Canadian Rogers S3. No further testing has been done. I first rooted the phone using Kingoroot and then downloaded the phoneinfo app from play store. I then used the app to get to service menu.At first service menu is blank but I used menu ,then key input Q, then back, then key input 0000,then back and then service menu appears. Now I am doing this from memory and no longer have the phone or another one at the moment to confirm this and will update this as soon as I can. But to the best of my knowledge I first went to UMTS(1) ,thenDEBUG(1), then Phone Control(?), then Network Lock.. Perso-SHA256 was on(1) I set it to off (0). I then backed out of the menu and shut down phone.I inserted PM SIM in phone and booted up .Phone didnt ask for unlock code and shortly I had texting service with Public Mobile. I dont have voice or data to check those but cant seewhy they wouldnt work. Anyway can someone confirm this working. My steps may not be exact but if it worked for me it should work for others.
