What recovery are you on?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Vital? You don't need a super wipe. And you only need the cache wipe if you're using CWM5. If you don't know how to properly wipe..
1. Wipe Factory data reset
2. Wipe cache
3. go into mounts and storage
4. Wipe system
5. Wipe data
6. Wipe cache
7. Go to advanced
8. Wipe dalvik cache
Simple eh? Is this your first device? Super wipe scripts are very uncommon. Better that you learn how to do it the old fashion way for your next handset than rely on a shortcut.
But... if you insist. Google the derek jay source forge. Its in there in dark side tools. There's a reason he discontinued them.

What he said.. I recommend upgrading to the newest cwm or twrp recoveries if you haven't done so yet.. The superwipe scripts are not needed on them

Well I guess the Koodo version of this phone is **** because Ive done a factory wipe twice and wiped the system partition twice then wiped cache and dalvik twice each then flashed PA ROM and CM10 and neither of them will go past bootloop, but hey aokp works fine except for random reboots and rare sod's.
Just saying, I know what Im doing btw guy
and yes 5.0.2.6 cwm

I understand that but don't take it so personal.. CWM 6+ is in the development section or flash twrp all your bootloop problems should be gone!

Ive always been a CWM guy.. but TRWPs wipe is much more convenient. All wipe options are on the same screen and they work pretty quick. There's a flashable zip somewhere in the twrp thread. Flashing it through goomanager is a pain. Also how exactly are you wiping? The only way I know to get a boot loop is to wipe your cache and dalvik after flashing the ROM or you're on CWM 5.0.2.7.

Yes this is the Sprint Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch section.
Did you make a nandroid backup 1st? (If Yes, restore your backup) Did you go into "mounts and storage" and format "/system" before you wiped data/cache/dalvik cache?
Odin another rom.
Search for and download odin v1.85. Then download a .tar file. Where ever you find these items, you'll also find good instructions.
Then try flashing starburst again.

I would suggest 5.0.2.3, or 5.0.2.6 Also...make sure you format cache/dalvik/data/system at least 3X each. If that doesn't work, then try redownloading the ROM. Might've gotten a borked download.

Use this: LoStkernel or this: CWM
But I'm willing to bet that you either didn't format system in the mounts and storage menu or it didn't take when you tried. I would retry StarBurst again first, making sure to Format System Under Mounts and Storage and making sure it succeeds. Then you won't have to worry about any of the other stuff.
Yeah, CWM can be quirky

The place to post ANYTHING about using a Starburst ROM on Epic 4 G Touch is

[HOW-TO] Proper method to flash a ROM

First off if you're on ANY recovery that isn't CWM 5.0.2.7 you DO NOT NEED TDJS SUPER WIPE OR CACHE WIPE SCRIPTS!!!! Seriously stop flashing these people you're filling up threads with problems caused by both of these scripts and bad flashing methods. Here's how to PROPERLY flash a ROM..
If on CWM 6.0.x.x
1. Wipe factory data/reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Go into mounts and storage
4. Format /system
5. Format /data
6. Format /cache
7. Enter advanced
8. Wipe dalvik
9. Flash ROM then gapps
10. Reboot and let the ROM settle for 5-10 minutes if flashing TW ROMs, this step is unnecessary for AOSP based ROMs.
11. (Optional) if flashing a new radio flash AFTER the ROM has been initially booted for the first time. No wipes are necessary when flashing a new radio but it HAS to be flashed after the ROM is loaded and settled in. Flashing a radio first and then a ROM has caused issues like the phone not even recognizing there is a network for it. ( phone remains in emergency mode )
If you're on a Cyanogenmod nightly a full wipe IS NOT REQUIRED. The proper method of dirty flashing is just wiping cache, ( NOT FORMAT CACHE IN MOUNTS & STORAGE )
wiping dalvik and flashing your ROM. Simple as that.
If using TWRP 2.2+ the steps are essentially the same or use TDJs wipe scripts. They work perfectly fine with TWRP. Feel free to wipe 2x or even 3x if it makes you feel safer about your installation.
And THAT'S IT. People are cluttering up threads with issues than can totally be avoided by flashing the right way. I hope this helps some of you iron out these insane tiny quirks I keep reading about.
Happy flashing folks.
EDIT:
I forgot to note.. if you're still using one of TDJs roms or any other rom that automatically wipes with TDJs SUPER CACHE WIPE, do NOT use any other recoveries other than CWM 5.0.2.7 or TWRP 2.2+. With any other recovery such as CWM 6.0.x.x+, the wipe script breaks the roms ability to reboot properly and the only way to solve this is to use TDJs CACHE WIPE which in turn breaks your recoveries ability to work properly.

Thanks man this was needed. Yes threads get filled with this so often. I dirty flash like you mentioned accept I format system first. I also clean flash like you mentioned but never formatted cache and dalvik just system. That's good to know. Thanks
But I will add those new steps. I format system when dirty flashing because on the cm10 Site they mentioned that.
Again thanks

Sad we need to keep telling people how to flash. If you are not sure what you are doing I think you should be very careful before you destroy your expensive toy. Everyone should have an idea on how to flash and restore from a bad flash before they even root. Also as my sig says let Google be your friend people if you run into issues instead of running to a thread and clogging it up...
Thanks for post and this is a bump to keep it on page 1 and hopefully more people will notice it.
So I messed up and used the darkside scripts with 6.0.1.4 and I can't get my phone to boot, like you mentioned. It also destroyed the recovery, does nothing at all. What can I do, if anything, to fix?

Can you boot into recovery at all? If you can.. download the TWRP 2.2.2.0 zip in its thread and flash it. Its going to hang in the install process but should say twrp has been installed. At that point reset your phone by holding the power button. As soon as you feel the phone vibrate hold down both volume buttons and you should boot into TWRP recovery.

Darkside superwipe will only mess your ROMs ability to reboot on touchwiz ROMs. The only way to fix this is flashing the darkside cache wipe which WILL break clockwork mod 6.0.1.4 like the user above. Point is.. don't use either scripts at all on CWM. Wipe the old fashioned way.

I just followed this and it answers many questions. I have great luck with CWR 5.0.2.7 and the darkside scripts. Everytime I had an issue, I would run the darkside cache script and all was fixed.
Now, since I upgraded CWR, I have had issues installing ROMS, bad recovery installs, etc. Just as you mentioned.
Got a new phone today. Flashed an odin CWR (didn't know the version). It turned out to be an older touch version. I CWR flashed the latest Sk8's recovery. I then followed your instructions. Installed JB ROM and Gapps and it was a success. Not boot loop.
Questions: What do I do if I want to wipe cache and dalvik or fix permissions in the future? What radio is recommended with the latest JB nightly?

Just go into CWM and wipe cache in the main menu and dalvik in the advanced menu. To be honest though you don't need to do this whatsoever. Only when dirty flashing a new nightly. In my experience atleast lol as far as gapps go..

[scripts][Tools] Infamous.Super.Wipe and Infamous.Cache.Wipe for Jelly Bean 4.1.2 TW

Ok guys, these are modded versions of TDJ's tools to add the preload partition. This should allow you to wipe cache and dalvik without jacking up the symlinks. Also for you guys having issues installing a ROM, the superwipe should fix that. First flash the ROM and reboot (important), then if you are having issues flash the super wipe and then the ROM again. Reboot and you should be good.
Thanks again TDJ!!! You rock bro.
Note to other developers: Feel free to link here from your thread, just don't re-upload them please. Thanks

I booted back into recovery but I was not getting fully back into recovery. I tried several times. I finally ODINed back to stock but I can't get the ****ing phone to boot up. It gets toa popup that says ""unfortunatley google partner setup has stopped" and then if I clear that "Google account manager has stopped", "google calender storage has stopped""unfortuantely the process com. android.phone has stopped". ****. I have tried ODIN to 3.5 stock and 4.0.3 both having similar issues.
Anyone have any idea, may have absolutley nothing to do with these scripts but any ideas would be very much appreciated.
What are you running and what are you trying to flash? Wouldn't be the scripts as they only wipe, format, align the partitions.

I was running CWM 6.0.2.9 touch and trying to flash the StockWalk ROM. I don't know if you have seen something like this before but it seems like I am totally unable to install any GAPPS even when flashing stock ROM in ODIN. I had flashed the same ROM before attempting to use the scripts, the reason was that I was unable to add my google account (may be a defect in the ROM but others are saying they have not had issue).

OK so I thought I knew enough to not feel like a noob, but here I am with three questions.
First question is what is a "preload problem"?
Second question is this will only work on 4.1.2, and not 4.2.2 (CM 10.1)?
And the third question is will using the original DS wipes mess something up?
T mobiles 4.1.2 loads a preboot partition. Wiping cache with anything but these scripts also wipes these partitions. This script is modified to not do that. No preboot partition = boot loop.
Thus, if you're on anything BUT Tmobiles 4.1.2 you don't need this script and there's no advantage to using it.

Bootloop after Jedi Mind Trick 3 Install
Performed a full system wipe - Factory Reset/Data Wipe, format /system, Wipe Dalvik Cache - using CWM. Flashed ROM, Fixed Permissions, then rebooted. Waited 10 minutes (actually more like 20 minutes) but was stuck in a bootloop. The loading bar almost completely fills in each time (only a small fraction - i.e. about 0.5mm - remains unfilled) before the reboot occurs automatically. I read else where on the SGH-T989 forum of similar problems with 2.0. Someone said that wiping the data caches before AND after flashing the ROM always works for them. I assume they mean format /data cache and Wipe Dalvik Cache after flashing ROM but I'm not sure. Anyone have any experience here?

Do i wipe it afterwards or before?

Both. Think of it like this...
Would you ever take a dump without wiping? NEVER. Wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe. A wiping flasher is a happy flasher.

I'm still pretty new to all this stuff, from what I've read, it's all different, noone ever is really specific, which is annoying imo. And a lot of guides/tutorials are very vague. Step by step guide, my ass, lol. I think if ur flashing a new rom, u wanna do data, system, cache and dalvik. If ur jus restoring a backup, I think all you need is factory data reset which is basically data, cache and dalvik. But hey, WTF do I know, hopefully someone can fill us in, I originally posted that link, because I remembered it because it was the only one that was pretty specific. Good luck man.

In almost any ROM i have ever flashed its been recommended to wipe System,Data,Cache,Deviant Cache Before you flash the Rom after you flash the ROM wipe Cache, Deviant Cache.
With Kernels wipe Cache,Deviant Cache Before and again after.
Just in my experiences.
