HTC Music app,how to play by folder? - HTC One X

Hello!
Though I have HTC phones for 2 years, I never used them for music play.
I bought the Stereoclip yeaterday and I am ''obliged'' to use the HOX to stream music as my cowon J3 BT volume is too low and crappy.
Now to focus on the question here, is there any way to play songs per folder?
I always divide my songs by genre in folders like ''Trance'' ''Rock'' ''80s''...
Ok the HTC music player can play by genre but unfortunetly my mp3s are nothing but well ID3taged + I don't want to put 500 songs in a genre.
So please how can I play by folder?
Any modified htc music app for that purpose?

I would create your own playlists with the Names of the genres you are using.
You can also add sources from DropBox etc this could be a good idea if you want to keep the space on your device free for apps etc.
To do this, goto your music play, click the "Settings" top right corner and click "Add Music source"
Hope this helps my friend.

I had the same question like you. I Gave up and installed PowerAMP...

i use a program called. music folder player
https://sites.google.com/site/zorillasoft/

Forget the dropbox thingy with our very limited 3G network in Lebanon (20 to 100mb per month), or else I would have used Tuneinradio in my car all the time
I think I will install a 3rd party app though I would have preffered to do it with the HTC music app

Okay, heres three options and I can't think of any other way for you to do it, I hope this is helpful.
1 - Obviously you could use another music player, such as WinAmp.
2 - Sort your music into the folders you want, get a file explorer (I Use ESFileExplorer) go on that, navigate to the folder, long press and then click "Music" that folder will then be loaded by itself into the music, Long winded I know but you can still use the stock app.
3 - Create playlists and just name the playlists by the folder.
2 is probably your best bet !

Thanks dude!
I will try playlist to begin with, if it's a pain in the as* I will install a good 3rd party app.
Btw which one is the best (music quality) and has lockscreen controls?

No worries mate
Tbh never used a third party music player, as in my opinion they are never as loud or clear as the stock. Perhaps that could be sorted if you know what to do with an equaliser, but I don't haha.
Couple of Suggestions that I know are good music players:
DoubleTwist - GirlFriend uses this, its free, very smart and sleek looking, and has many functions. Including the lock screen control you asked for. I'd take a look at this.
Player Pro - Looks very capable but never had an experience with it.
Also
WinAmp - Has been around for long time, before android even existed as it was a PC music player, hense the "Win" for "Windows"
I had a good look at PlayerPro, this could be a brilliant option for you, its got everything you've previously mentioned, playing by folder, lock screen controls. etc etc

Hi mate,
here's what I did on my HTC Desire X. You create a folder with a specific name where you put all your music and then in the Music app on HTC Android, you Search for that folder. It then shows up under Albums and you are able to play only the tracks contained in that Album/folder. For the folder names, they have to be somewhat unique, if you have a lot of music on your phone because otherwise it's gonna getm mixed up.
Hope it helps!

Since Sense 4+ we can use folders play in the HTC Music app

I just found an easy solution to the problem.
1. Organize all your songs on your phone under folders as you like
2. Connect your phone to a PC
3. Open Windows Media Player
4. Select all songs from one folder (on the phone) and add to Windows Media Player Playlist
5. Rename Playlist according to your preference
6. Save the playlist
7. Copy the playlist from your music folder on your PC and paste it on your phone in the Music folder
8. The playlist will now be available on your stock music player

best audio player ?

easy question - whats the best player for audio on HD ?
its a difficult question - for me its s2p
If you mean the most user friendly one, I would suggest Nitrogen player.
Yes, Nitrogen too. The best !

I used nitrogen player for a while but came across a problem (if it's me please do tell me i'm an idiot 'cause i like this program); i have all my music in different folders by different artists; how can i play ALL my songs randomly???? i can ony manage to play all the songs by one artist (or making a playlist by going to each artist and adding its songs).
Thanks!

uh, make sure "Recursive Search" is selected in the song browser menu, then go up the to top of the directory where all your songs are stored, tap and hold and select "Append and Play".
eg. if ur music is under \Storage Card\Music, then you tap and hold that folder.
Does anyone use players for audio books?
I have tried a lot of players, all of them not suitable for audio books. When I answer on incoming call couple seconds of the book (about 3 to 8) lost and I need to rewind some. When you are listening to the music its not a problem, but audio books...
Can anyone suggest me right kind of player?
I'm using Pocket Tunes 4. It's not free and i'll take a look to nitrogen also
This is my first reply to a thread.....lol
I just had to add my two cents worth, I have probably tried about 10 different audio players and always come back to Pocket Player, whilst allot of others have fantastic options I find Pocket player has all of the benefits of the others plus more. When the phone rings its pauses, then resumes to the exact spot when the call ends. It can play virtually all types of audio files and has heaps and heaps of settings to configure to your personnel tastes
Good luck

Best music player on the Desire

What is the best music player on the Desire ?
Something that ideally supports mp3, m3u, flac, wmp, wav ogg
Stock supports MP3 and WAV. Flac is supported if you root and install CyanogenMod. I haven't found any player capable of playing M3U, WMP or OGG yet.
I'm pretty sure MortPlayer plays .ogg (brilliant music player BTW) - I could be wrong though...
If installing CyanogenMod allows for flac playback then then pushes me that much closer towards rooting my device - just need the courage as I've heard one or two stories of people bricking their phones. I wouldn't consider myself that much of a noob with these things but I hope someone can come up with a noobs guide to rooting your Desire...
TuneWiki is the best, has more than just music playback!

Ahem... The built-in player supports playing OGG files...
Thanks for the tips. I prefer MortPlayer which can play my files even if they are not perfectly rendered ID3 tags and have no album cover.
One thing that annoys me about most of the newest phone on the market is that it requires you to create a playlist of some sort.
Back in the days when most players would work just by simply playing all the files inside a folder.

Meridian can do that. You can navigate through your sdcard, long press the desired folder and play all (and a few other options)

Not mine it doesn't. Copy and pasted files into a directory and played. Not until a few days later did I set up a few playlists. This was using the stock player but was also playing around with TuneWike and 3 at the same time.

Thats something thats annoyed me too. I just want to play files in my folders, not spend ages making a playlist........ Just downloaded Meridian and its doing what I want. Thanks for the tip off.
I just make sure all the tracks within a folder have the same 'Album' name, that way when you sort by album, they're all grouped correctly.
You can do this in Windows by highlighting all the tracks within a folder, then right click and go to "Properties | Summary | Advanced" and update the 'Album Title' field.
It can be instant, or take a minute or so to update the album name, depending on what type of ID tag it uses.

[Q] Looking for a better music app

I'm looking for a music app that does the following:
plays music from a folder, without having to create a playlist.
resumes playback from the track position on restarts.
supports shuffle all/repeat all tracks from a folder.
I used to use Just Playlists, but after upgrading to the latest OTA and rooting with unrevoked3, it no longer resumes at the track position the app exited from.
Astro beta player spikes CPU usage to over 80% (according to watchdog lite).
Mort player does not resume track position reliably.
Most of the other ones I've tested from the market fail at the resume track position function.
Any other app suggestions?

Guess I'm not sure what you're saying here. I use mixzing and don't use playlists.
i have several folders of music that I play, and do not want them intermixed on playback. Mixzing can play your entire library, by album, by artist, or by playlist. If I only want to play... say... a folder of trance mixes, I must create a playlist to just play that folder.
Mixzing also does not restart the track from the last played position when exiting and then restarting.
Unsure about the resuming of the track, but I use one called Lithium Player. It has some options to allow you to change the color scheme of the widget and allows you to set which folder you want it to play from along with all the other features your looking for I believe. Check it out, might do what your looking for.

uhm.... reread my first post.
"Mort player does not resume track position reliably."
I already have the latest version of mortplayer, mortplayer for ebooks, and the mortplayer widget installed. While I loved the winmo version of it, the android version lacks features that were present in the winmo version, such as
"resumes playback from the track position on restarts."
you can test this out if you want. Play a track on mortplayer. Then pause it. Reboot your phone or kill the mortplayer process/task. Open mortplayer. It will open to the track you were playing, but will have moved the slider back to 0:00.
Just Playlists did this fine, but now I have lost that functionality after going to froyo and rooting with unrevoked3. I have already emailed the developer, but he could not isolate the issue, so I'm looking for alternatives.
I'd like to see some suggestions too. I was using Mortplayer, but if you leave it paused for too long it forgets your track position and starts it over. Besides this, it also seems to be bugging out my alarm clock periodically.
Stock player does not support BT fwd and rwd buttons? Lame.
Can anyone suggest a music player that supports BT controls, remembers track position, and is just generally a good music player?

I play music by genre when using mixzing. All of my music is properly tagged by genre so if I select the hip hop folder in 'genre' all I have to do is long press hip hop and a menu pops up with 'play' as an option. I select play and it will play all of that particular genre. The paid version of mixzing also lets you edit tags and comes with a 10 band EQ.

I've been looking for the exact same thing. Player Pro is the best I've found so far. The resume is not 100% reliable, but it tends to keep the position after reboots (though I don't really reboot often enough in the middle of podcasts, etc to say this with any authority). Adding a bookmark feature would help. It's very good, folder-wise, I think, though the auto-detecting of folders (there's no manual refresh) can be frustrating when trying to listen to something just downloaded. Also, it's pretty good looking. Definitely shows a lot of promise.

Incorrect. I use MixZing everyday when I walk to work and it certainly does pick up where you left off in the track. I just even check it now - literally holding the phone, clicking the widget, it opened the last song I was listening to and there it is - it's still paused at 3:34 - and I've even rebooted my phone several times today b/c I've been flashing themes.

I just tried several times on Mixzinger and it does not resume playback from where it was left off. I just can't believe that there isn't a music player out there that can pull off this most basic function.

what is the best music app?

i have been really torn of late as to wether or not to keep my desire over my samsung omnia 7. The killer feature on the omnia is the zune music player and the ability to have an acount and download whatever albums i like etc.
Is there such an app or service that is similar to zune that will give me the same functions. I.e to be able to download whatever music and albums i want to the phone for a set monthly payment.
I know its possible to link my phone to i-tunes etc but then i would have to pay for every album i buy.
suggestions please.
Ps i have downloaded poweramp as my music player and am really happy with that. Just need the means to download my songs to the phone now.
I have also tried to use my zune account with all my music on it and transfer the songs to my desire but due to drm it dosent work. Anyone have a work around for this? If so this could solve the problem as i would stick with my zune account.
thanks
Power Amp. BY FAR!

i need however suggestions as to a good music service that allows me to download albums etc to my phone and whereby i pay like a monty subscription.
Just skip the monthly fee and use tunee music or music junk.

mort player, hands down. not only does it have a good user interface but is heavily customizable and doesn't rely on android to create a file list. for me it was being able to do an A - Z folder list to sort my music bypassing sorting like "genre" and "year".
Best Combo for free music: Transdroid linked to uTorrent. Download the music to a specific media folder on your computer from your phone. Then have Subsonic set up on your PC as well as your phone as a music server. That's what works for me.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/*tunewiki-social-media-player*/com.tunewiki.lyricplayer.android
use tune wiki.
as for your songs on zune just find the path where its downloaded. btw if you want to access your zune libray via my computer, use "Show hidden folders" option.
If you already have a great music collection subsonic is hands down a must have on any android device. I can get any of my 63 gigs of music anywhere in the world. You can either stream it or download songs/albums to your phone. As far as music player I just use stock cm6 (music mod) with dsp settings handling the equalizer. Gets the jib done for me. Doubletwist now has wifi sync as well as winamp. Just play with a bunch of them and decide which works for you

In my opinion, Winamp is teh best. But @ best this is subjective.
Give Winamp, Poweramp, Mort, 3^2 (Cubed) player a try.
These are the "big" music players that I know of.
gingerbread apparently has a pretty sweet music function that allows you to sync with your home pc's music library. Sounds pretty sweet but there's a ton of free music apps out there on the market (most likely legal issues involved) but I just google an mp3 when I want one.
Anyone remember imusic tao before it disappeared? That thing was killer. Sadly I paid for it and it was removed about a month later.
If what your looking for is a subscription music service that you can download to the phone is would try rhapsody. I think it's like 9.99 a month and you can dl any track they have or stream as well. I've had the service for years and I love it.

Best way to get iTunes Music onto One

I'm looking for the best way to get my music from iTunes locally onto my HTC One.
Preferably, I'd like to remove the remaining DRM on my iTunes music, and let google play music do the rest (the only songs not on play are DRM-protected).
From there I think I'd just download the library and put it on my phone.
But mainly I guess I'm asking how to remove that DRM?
If you are willing to pay $25 for the year, iTunes match will allow you to download your library drm free. That is what I did and then used Google Music to upload to the cloud.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 4
You can make mp3 versions of your songs within iTunes itself then put it on any device you want. That's what I do.
Go to iTunes settings/preferences then "general" then click the button that says "import settings" and select MP3 encoder. Save the settings.
Then right click the songs you want to convert and select "create MP3 version." You can either keep or delete the AAC version. I delete it because I don't want 2 versions of the same song.
I'm pretty sure it removes DRM... because once I do this, I'm able to do anything I want with it. Amazon cloud, google, etc.
Sent from my HTC One.
Easiest way, use a music converter program to convert to DRM free MP3, then upload them to google music. I personally like the program sound taxi to do this, can queue up as many songs as you want, it will convert 8-12 at a time until they whole queue is done.
