Question about OTA updates... - HTC One X

I have a O2 UK branded hox, which i've unlocked and use on Tesco Mobile's network (actually uses O2 network) but just wondering if I would still receive OTA updates if I revert back to stock, as it was my understanding they were pushed out by the network providers?

Yes you can still receive OTA updates if you revert back to stock .

The phone checks HTC servers for updates using the Internet. It has nothing to do with the provider.

Correct. It's the software build you're using that determines the updates. For example, if you're running x.xx.61.x (Orange UK) and you don't change this bar using a different SIM card you'll only get update that have x.xx.61.x in it

Thanks guys just gotta figure out how to put it back to stock now....

What HBOOT are you on? If you're on an earlier one you might be able to get away with the 1.2x RUU but if you had the 2.17.61.x OTA update recently I believe you're stuck as that RUU hasn't surfaced yet

0.96 is my hboot

Pretty sure the existing Orange UK RUU will do the job for stock in that case, then
EDIT: This one should do...

If you've not unlocked/rooted/gone custom at all it's very simple! Go to Settings>About phone>Software information and make a note of the build number, e.g. 2.17.401.2
THEN see if it's available for download. In this case, it is...

Ok thats the one I have thanks, just need to figure out which boot img to flash as there are 2 on the guide i read 1.26 or 2.17 or something

Take the boot.img from the RUU...although you don't need to if you're going to flash the RUU. All you have to do is relock the bootloader and run it when the phone is in fastboot mode - it'll put it back to 100% stock

Many thanks, just found my original Nandroid too should I need it

Ahhh, thanks for that info mate much appreciated.

Managed to do it by restoring my original nandroid I did as soon as I unlocked the bootloader, at first it was boot looping but i flashed the boot.img from nandroid and it is fine, ota showed the 4.0.4 update immediately and managed to download it, now back onto arhd 9.7.2 so at least I know I can get back, will just have to relock it next time and flash stock recovery. will just have to figure out which recovery would be needed.

You don't need to relock to install OTA.

How to remove bloatware
HI Guys
Ive read through the forum link above all 24 pages and downloaded the relevant Stock Roms, the original from HTC and the Vodafone one. Ive got a little confused reading through all the posts. To flash the original stock rom over my current vodafone branded one what steps exactly do i need to take. People are mentioning the unlock via htc dev in the forums is this required to take it back to the original stock rom. I didnt see any clear steps on how to get this done. Anyone provide any help. Ive flashed my old phone numerous times but at present am a little worried about using the htcdev way. I know the developers are working on s-off is any of this needed for what im trying to do??
Thanks in Advance
Gav
you don't need to unlock to flash an official ROM.
Best way is to grab the RUU file that is correct for your device and flash that way. Its a windows executable you run whilst your phone is connected via fastboot.
edit: that would bring you back to the vodaphone crap. whoops. disregard but yes you don't need S-OFF or unlocked blootloader to flash original rom

I too am a bit of a noob and have a voda branded hox on its way to me. I was under the impression that although we may be able to flash stock htc hox firmware onto the device, we won't be able to it 'properly' because of no proper s off or boot loader..... Or something..... And therefore won't be able to receive any OTA updates afterward....
Or am I talking rubbish and we CAN actually nicely and simply flash stock firmware on and forever after have no issues receiving offiCIAL OTA?
Also gav I don't even know if any stock RUU exist yet...?

Yes i have the stock and vodafone rom downloaded i got it on here from the developers section. We should be able to install these RUU updates as it doesnt require s-off or to use the htcdev method as least from my understanding.

Mate, first you must know exactly what are you looking for. There are numerous links around here with different versions of stock ROMs.
You need your phone's CID and main version.
Only after that you will search, download and flash the stock ROM that ffits your phone.

I've checked my CID (Using command - fastboot getvar cid)
My CID comes up as : None
I am currently on Revolution HD 7.x ROM and wanted to update to the new 19.x ROM
The problem is when I try updating the hboot, it constantly fails.
I've downloaded the "x.xx.401.x - World Wide English (WWE)" version
A friend of mine has a stock standard One X from Vodafone and JB was just pushed out as an update for her.
I want to try and restore my phone back to the original ROM for that purpose. (also helps in case of warranty)
Have had a look but cant seem to find the original Vodafone ROM anywhere.

This is good news! You need main version also. Then, go and check HERE. There are explanations and files that will help you. Download and flash (as per instructions) nandroid backup that matches your version. Once that finished, you will soon get notification about available update. Accept it, and you will have Vodafone stok JB. After that, do what ever you want with your phone

hboot 0.94 comes with 1.28, this means you won't be able to run a 1.26 RUU - you can only run 1.28 RUUs or newer. If you can't get the 1.28 RUU for your CID you won't be able to run a RUU. You can still flash custom ROMs though, so if your phone is bootlooping that's your way out.

Are you on vodafone UK? The 1.28 RUU is available for that carrier.
Even after relocking the bootloader and running a RUU, it's impossible (without S-OFF) to remove any trace that you unlocked it. The repair centre will still be able to tell.

Essentially no. Once you unlock it, even if you relock it it won't be exactly the same. The bootloader will remember that it was previously unlocked and repair centres will be able to see it. That said, restoring the RUU is better than nothing, but from what I've heard the repair centres like to bill you for a motherboard replacement if you unlock your device.
UK law does give you a large degree of protection if you wanted to take it to court though (assuming you're returning it due to a fault that was not caused by unlocking the device)

[Q] Get back to stock using Ruu

So, I'm running Android Revolution HD 6.0 and I want to get back to stock...
My phone came with an Asian Rom of some sort and I have a Nandroid Backup.
I've tried to simply flash a Ruu "Europe_1.29.401.11" but it force close before any process start.
Do I have to get back to that stock, then relock the bootloader to do so???
Can I re-Unlock the bootloader if I need sometime??
It's my first HTC, I'm ok about using odin and rsd lite but never flashed any Ruu, so in HTC matters I'm pretty noob.
Thanks.

You have to re-lock bootloader to flash official RUUs, and you can unlock it everytime you want using the unlock.bin you get from HTCdev (on your mail).
But you have to be sure you are using the right RUU
Read the threads relating to ruu carefully. Pretty important.
One thing. You can't use any ruu. Your phone did have a Asian rom initially and so you need the ruu corresponding to that area. And if phone was branded, you need the ruu specific to that brand.
So like if you your phone was from Hong Kong region, you need Hong Kong specific and carrier specifi(if your hox was branded ) ruu.
One more thing, u can only use the ruu of your current os version.
So if you're on 1.29.11, you can't use ruu for 1.29.7
See stickies for in android development section for ruu.
Although I think re locking bootloader should be enough and you should be good to use ruu, do check it.
Not sure if it would require flashing stock rom or stock recovery.
Last thing... Why use ruu? It's probably the last thing you should do unless it's a try to reclaim warranty.
I just want to get my phone to a stock rom, that was why...
but I guess I'll just stick to custom roms, since the Ruu stuf is actually pretty scarring... I tought it was simple to do, since fhasing via odin was always fast and safe...
But that's ok!
Thanks!!!
So, that was my shipped Ruu...
Can I flash an European over it??

It's very simple really.
1. Find the correct RUU
2. Flash stock recovery(not 100% sure if needed, I did it though)
3. Relock bootloader
4. Run RUU while still in fastboot.

If you tried to do the pj something something firmware update... That...was pretty foolish considering I have a ThreeUK and mines branded, so I presume yous must me.. our cid...is...not...yet...supported...for sensed jellybean AND the firmware update.
Just wait till 3 push jellybean or... A dev or some clever person works it all out.
Or try a aosp or some other jellybean rom.
You should try fastboot flash boot boot.img your chosen rom.
Then fastboot erase cache, then flash the rom.zip through recovery.

Yeah if you can get hold of it that'll do the job.
Just make sure you relock your bootloader

Do you need exact that version? Or just the latest stock?
Then: try this:

Here's the link i used before:
http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/
The H3G 1.29 was never released, they skipped straight to 2.17 - so perhaps this is the 2.17 RUU?

You need to report him to the mods for selling RUU. It's HTC's property.

Nope I've got the same issue . None of the stock RUU's available will load on the latest H3G version to take it back to stock.so far
I should also say that using the Automatic one x flasher it took me ten minutes to re unlock , flash cwm and install ARHD to have a perfectly good phone again
I am having the exact same problem. I had stock rom 3 UK locked and I thought that flashing a custom rom would unlock the carrier. Now I am stuck with bootloop. I can enter fastboot and recovery but I can't find H3G 2.17.771.3 RUU anywhere to return to stock and have a working phone again. Is there any solution for my problem? How can I at least return to stock H3G rom?
Found the ruu for you. This one worked for me. Have uploaded to my dropbox account.

Should take you to this download:

Wow thanks man. I'll try it out and get back with the result. I was really out of hope.
EDIT:
It worked! The first time I tried updating it said it couldn't update, but the second time it worked perfectly. Now my phone finally boots and I can use an unlock code to get rid of the carrier lock. Thank you spikeydoo2006 for the RUU. It should be posted in the index so other people with my problem can find it easier.
Im running CyanogenMod10 on my HTC one x and i was wondering if there was a way to get this working on my device?
edit: got it working thanks spikey saved me!

Need help updating phone... H3G User.

Im on the same version of Android since i got the phone, the bootloader is unlocked with S-ON and it has been working fine since i got it. I heard 5.1 had been released, is there a H3G RUU for the new version or can i use the Europeon one.. my CID Num is H3G__001.
Because i am rooted it says it cant check for updates, can anyone tell me what i can do?
I thought about restoring the original software RUU and then updating, but what if my service provider hasnt released the update, unless their is another H3G M9 user on the forum who can tell me different.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to S-OFF, then Super CID. After you have done that just restore the newest WWE RUU. That way you're on the latest version and can continue to receive any new updates a lot sooner - none of that waiting for the network to release the update. Especially with marshmallow round the corner.

Are their any other ways of doing it without S-Off?
Thanks

Other than the way you stated not really. If you don't want to go S-OFF then you'll need to restore stock and update, then root again.
Hey there buddy.
What the chance you backed up your stock H3G recovery.
I flashed TWRP and forgot to take a backup, now can't flash the update.
I posted in this forum asking in anyone had the UK H3G stock recovery but no answers.
Cheers.
