[Q] Rooting international HTC One X with HTC Patch - HTC One X

Hi,
I've been trying to root my HOX using oneclick with no success, I keep getting a "permission denied" message. I've tried to find an answer on XDA and via google but couldn't find one.
All I want to do is root my device in order to restore apps data from my old Desire using Titanium Backup, I don't want to unlock the bootloader or flash a new recovery (I want to still be able to get OTA updates as JB is about to be release later this month).
Is there a way to do so ?
I also tried the method from XDA (HTC_QuickRoot_1.1.13_Release) but I get a message stating that my device is patched (my software version is 2.18.751.7 if thats help).
Thanks a lot guys !

Those One Click Tools are going through HTCDev then unlock bootloader too, at least for HOX since we have no other method to gain permenant root.
You can still receving OTA from HTC if you stayed on stock ROM. However, you will need stock recovery and stock-like ROM(not altering too much likes uninstalling certains system app.. blah~ blah~ blah~) to properly flash the OTA.

I know that there is a way to root the HOX without unlocking the bootloader or flashing a different recovery, the problem I have is that my device seems to have some kind of a patch thats preventing the root exploit to work.
Are you saying I can't root my device unless I'll use HTCDev? Because I don't think its true...
I don't want to mess with custom ROMs right now as my phone is still under warranty and I would hate it to be void, I know I can go back (ie unroot and flash stock recovery) I just don't want to mess with it right now.
I use to do it with my good old Desire (flashed it like a 1000 times) and right now I want to use the stock ROM.
Does anyone has an idea of how I can get simple root permission?

You cannot root with a locked bootloader on the HOX. Simply not possible. But feel free to waste your time trying.

Your in the wrong forum, this is for the tegra3 one x. We can't root without unlocking via htcdev.

I have the same phone. There is no recovery image that i can find. Does anyone one know what would be the most similar? I want to still get the OTA jellybean update!

Well I won't be waisting my time, If you're saying its not possible then I guess its not.
Do I have to use the HTCDev first to unlock it? I'm sure HTC keeps a list of devices that has been unlocked using their website. Then if one of them devices will be sent back for repairs they will say the warranty has been void....
Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and root the phone without using HTCDev, then lock it again and keep the root permissions?

Mine is the Tegra3 One X...I read that there is a oneclick tool to root any HTC and I tried it on mine, I get a message that the phone has been patched so the root process failed. Why does it matter if the its the Tegra3 CPU or Snapdragon S4 ? I mean root wise?
Thanks guys !

Is there a different method to unlock and root an HOX?
Thanks.

[Q] OTA updates after Custom ROMS

Hey guys,
This probably isn't just for DHD users but seeing as thats what im using i'll post it here!
So a while back i went through the custom ROM phase. I am by no means an expert in this area, im just able to follow instructions!
I rooted with visionary and went radio-off with the one click method (My phone was on 1.32). I gave a few ROMS a go and just preferred stock battery life etc so restored the stock ROM from my clockwork recovery back-up.
My question is how do i get my phone back to the state where it will receive official OTA updates from HTC (I've read that they wont work once you've done the S-off/radio-off procedure).
If its not possible to get it back to this state then what options do i have for getting official updates (say whenever HTC push the 2.3.3 ROM!)
Thanks Guys
easy way , run ruu updater utility for your phone but you loose all data and settings
Unroot it and install stock rom. You should be able to get total updates then

Yep, that's the guide to follow
That's the one. Use 1.32.405.6 RUU. Then you must turn your phone S-ON, you can follow the instructions in my radio s-off tool thread to do that.
Is this correct that if you root and have S-OFF you won't receive updates? I asked that question at the time of rooting and was told that I would still get updates?
The only reason I rooted was to get Adfree working and get other such apps for rooted devices.
My Rom is the 1.32.405.6 as I bought the DHD all I have done is root with Visionary and got S-OFF.

I used the S-OFF tool and Visionary temp root then perm root. How would we go about restoring everything when it comes to being able to get the 2.3 update?
Kind of wish I didn't root now as I was told the oppisite that S-OFF and rooting wouldn't effect getting updates.
Edit: I just used attempt unroot with Visionary, the DHD rebooted and I used root checker from the market and it says I don't have root now. Would this be sufficient to get updates now do you think?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yep, that should be alright. If the OTA does not want to install, you can just flash HTC RUU and the issue will be fixed. You will get a notification about the OTA anyway, so you do not have to guess whether it works or not.
Thanks that's good to know that the update notification will come and that by unrooting fixes any problems. In the meantime until 2.3 comes I think I'll reroot
I only rooted in the first place to get things like Adfree and Drocap2 working.

I replied to your question in modaco but I mentioned again here, do you do the bootloader unlock procedure first before you run the superboot ?
I'll make a simple tutorial later on how to unlock and root the htc one v.

hii, sorry i havent checked modaco yet. i just got the phone like 2 days, so i havent done to the bootloader. it's still s-off tho. so what am i supposed to do before flashing the boot.img ?
thanks

Right... if it is already s-off, just download the SuperSU from Play store and you are done.

S-OFF doesn't mean that the phone is rooted. He needs to do this first:
ckpv5 said:
Rooting with Superboot
1. Download r1-primo-superboot.zip to your computer and extract in any directory.
2. Download the modded boot.superboot.img
3. Replace the boot.superboot.img in the folder that you extracted just now (r1-primo-superboot).
4. Power off your phone by holding the power button down for 10 seconds
5. Power your phone on by holding power and volume down (going to Fastboot mode)
6. Highlight Fastboot With Volume+or- then press Power
7. Connect your phone to PC
8. Double click ‘install-superboot-windows.bat’
Once it complete, the phone will reboot on its own. In app drawer you will see a SuperSU icon, click on it and update SU binary then you are done with rooting your Htc One V.
You can try any app with root access to confirm it is working.

He needs to do that only to have root and full ADB root access, if he already s-off and needs only root, just download the SuperSU from Play Store but no ADB access.
But I guess his One V is S-On, that is why he failed to flash the boot.img the first time he tried.
I just s off it and root it. But it seems it doesnt have root access yet. But i already have SU app.
Everytime i go to root uninstaller app, it asks me for adb access which i dont know how.
And also, when o try to update SU binary, it always fails. Everything is ok except the busybox checking and Gaining root access

One Click Root for HTC ONE X 1.29 Firmware

Bootloader must be unlocked to use this method !!!

Does any one know of a one click root method for the 1.29 version yet where we don't have to unlock the bootloader? I'm stuck in the mud so to speak.

Well this this my first time rooting a device. It's my first big boys phone and I get the pros and cons of root and unlocked bootloader. Just because it's my first time im scared.
So if I unlock my boot loader I can root (what method? Can you point me in the right direction please?) and keep stock ICS for a while then update ROM when I feel fit?
One main warning if you unlock your bootloader with HTCDev your warranty is basically void.

[Q] root or not to root?

So, I love my one x and always had my desire z rooted, used it for many things and always loved the freedom.
Now, for example I kinda miss the functions I do not have un rooted, but what are the advantaged of being NOT rooted?
For example: if you rooted can you later still unroot?
Also: if rooted, and gone back to stock..could you still receive OTA updates, or will they not receive?
Some explanation and hints would be very appticiated, regards .

i would suggest you to install OrdroidX...
Download the ROM and place it on your virtual SD card.
Relock your bootloader using the commend 'fastboot oem lock'.
Go into fastboot mode and type 'fastboot oem rebootRUU'.
Flash the new firmware using the commend 'fastboot flash zip firmware.zip'.
On first time running the commend you will see FAILED, don't panic and just run the commend again.
Reunlock your bootloader via HTCDev.
Flash custom recovery using the commend 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'.
Download boot.img and flash it using the commend ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’.
Use the commend 'fastboot erase cache' to avoid boot issues.
Go into recovery and install the ROM.
Reboot your device and enjoy from JB!

That guide is for EVITA.
Does your bootloader day EVITA or ENDEAVORU?
This forum is for ENDEAVORU.
With ENDEAVORU, you can unroot and unlock, but bootloader will say relocked, not locked. There may be warranty implications to that.

Technically, if you just unlock and root, HTC would have a hard time proving you caused a problem and should honour the warranty.
In real life, a manufacturers warranty is barely worth the paper it's written on, it's barely legally binding.
However, that's why we have consumer protection laws in much of the world.
So it depends on where you bought it, and whether you can rely on consumer protection laws.
To unlock (so that you can root) go to htcdev.com, but it "may" invalidate the warranty. It cannot, however, affect your statutary rights.

Jelly Bean doesn't give you root.
There are lots of reasons to want root (titanium backup, for one) and it's not just to install another ROM.
I was giving the answer (and other relevant information) to the question, not speculating on why the question was asked.
I haven't unlocked mine yet.

Yes, so far we're up to 1.33.
But I don't get your point.
Is there a reason you want root, other than to be able to run apps that require root?

Can you give an example which mods, when you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery you can push superuser to gain root on your stock rom. Or install any rom you like including mods......they mostly just need root.
S off will allow you to change cid (carrier I'd) of phone, you can make it super cid which will allow you to flash a y firmware you like for any m8 varient.
You will also be able to flash the adsp hk update for hk sound to work fully on models that the normal mod won't work
It will also allow you to switch between GPE and sense so long as you have a ruu image for each
It will also allow you to totally brick your phone if you don't understand what your doing
Better stick to HTC dev unlock as Rom and kernals can be flashed no problem , if it's a sense device GPE, cyan, asop and sense roms should work fine
Only issue you might get is Verizon or other USA specific
