[Q] "Activation call" - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Will not making the "activation call" on a fresh CM 7.2 install prevent CDMA and/or GSM from working at all? Or will it just prevent Verizon from working?

It won't prevent anything. The phone just won't be activate, you will still be able to call 911 and verizon activation anytime after skipping the activation screen.

Yea, but getting a SIM to work won't happen either will it? I'm not in the US and no matter how high up I stand and reach, I can't "hear you now"

If it is unlocked and in GSM mode then I would think it should be able to be activated just like any other unlocked GSM phone. I've never used GSM but I was under the impression the SIM is what is activated, and you can plug it into any phone as long as it isn't locked to a different carrier.

If your using GSM and your phone is unlocked, you should be able to use it without any complications

Incredible 2 On T-Mobile

I recently sold my Incredible 2 to a friend and he is trying to use it on T-Mobile. I know this is possible, but I have no idea how to do it. The phone is S-OFF by XTC Clip running a custom ROM. When he inserts his SIM it doesn't ask for the unlock code, how can I get it to ask? Is there something else I need to do? Help much appreciated!

It wouldn't need to if you did it via xtc clip. That's a hardware unlock so it gets the Sim slot at the same time.

So he doesn't need the SIM unlock code? I know the slot is unlocked, but the phone doesn't get service with his SIM card inserted. Is there a way to get the SIM card unlock prompt?

That I have no idea. Sorry bud, anyone else have any idea on how to get this done?
So he called T-Mobile and they told him it should just work if the phone is unlocked, like you said above. He got the IMSI number and is calling them back, I have never done anything like this before so I have no idea what I'm doing
Still nothing, can someone please help me.
Since it is running a custom ROM, does that ROM support GSM? I would try the phone with zeus or Andy Bones stock rooted ROM just to be sure.

He tried CM7 and another sense ROM, I'm not sure if either of those support GSM, but I will have him try out Andy's stock ROM in a few.
Any luck?

Also check the mobile network settings and see if it is set to switch between cdma and GSM. Actually if he is strictly on GSM then I would turn off cdma all together.

Does the DI2 has service at all or problems with data/mms only? Does the T-Mobile name show up as the carrier with the phone in GSM mode? For T-Mo, one has to subscribe or enroll in one of the data plan/option for mobile broadband access.
Is the T-Mo chip working or taken from another working T-Mo phone? Can you check for basic voice only service using an AT&T chip (prepaid or postpaid)?
Does it ring on incoming voice calls and answer? (Just starting with all the basics to try to eliminate the obvious ... )
If these checks are confirmed as functional - check and edit the APN and mobile internet/MMS settings (default locked to VZW/Vodafone ??) - changes made & saved?
Not all Sense ROMs are verified as GSM compatible (3.5 won't work, 3.0 is the highest with Sense 2.1/3.0 and hybrid usually with GSM functionalty) SR's Zeus V1.3 is good, same with andyBones's ROM or RMK's Ginger Sense released last year.
You need a P.U.K Code to unlock the apn side of the phone then input manually into new apn.

Why'd you use XTC clip instead of Revolutionary?

Here are some steps I used to help me use Incredible 2 for Tmobile
1. Under settings go to "Security" and "Disable SIM card lock" to enter the code. I bought my unlock code from ebay for $.99 from dr.unlockusa....others couldn't do it and refunded my money.
2. Make sure the back cover is on since antenna is integrated on the back cover. Also make sure that SIM card is inserted correctly...cut slanted side faces down.
3. Go to "Wireless and Network" and "Mobile Networks"....after your phone detects the sim card, you should now be able to click "GSM/UMTS MODE" under "Preferred Network".
4. After step 3, click "GSM/UMTS Options" and click APN settings. It should be blank....hit menu( it should be second button from left on the bottom) and add apn setting. Google APN settings for whatever network you're trying to use...either tmobile or at&t....and enter those settings....
5. Everytime you switch network or factory rest (done under "SD &phone storage) APN setting has to be entered again...it sucks...
hope this helped...

[Q] SPH-L900 radio to SCH-R950

I understand that there are some hardware differences between the Sprint SPH-L900 and the US Cellular SCH-R950 such as the lack of sim card slot on the Sprint version.
Let's say I had an SCH-R950 and wanted to convert it it to use on the Sprint network. Forget the ESN issues. Can I simply flash the SPH-L900 radio to the SCH-R950? Are there any other hurdles to jump?
no you cannot do that. to get on the sprint network you need to add your esn and other info to their network. which they don't allow. so flashing a radio will do nothing besides mess up the phone a little just wanting to switch services i take it? there are a lot other networks you could get on.

I mentioned I was aware of the esn issues and to forget them.
I'm not concerned with making phone calls or having data just yet. Can I make the phone a Sprint phone? Accept Sprint updates, show the Sprint logo on boot up, see the Sprint network, etc?

i know you said it but... never mind
you can make it a partial sprint phone haha. here's what you can do. you can run the latest sprint LK8 update. you can show the sprint logo on boot up/shutdown. you can see the sprint network with a prl change. so basically you can do everything except logon to their network for data and voice calls. there's no way to get your phone on their network other than roaming from uscc or another carrier with roaming agreements with sprint. unless you do some unmentionable illegal activity.
if you want to get the sprint updates on your phone you will need to root and install cwm. come join us over here http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/forum/299-samsung-galaxy-note-2/
i can assist you with getting this all on your phone.

Sooo...I have a US cellular note 2...what fun things are you trying to do with yours? I'm merely looking for a sim unlock. ..but now I am curious
Well technicaly speaking, I guess if you can get recent PRL and Profile from Sprint and see there network, yiu could possibly change your IMEID / MDN to am existing phone from sprint "kinda like cloaning" and it would work. Your phone would just register on the network as whatever IMEID/MDN the phone was. Data would be available as well as voice.
Just speculation.

I need the PRL and Profile.
Didnt say you wanted to cloan. Its just kinda how the proccess would work lol.
Anyways, might wanna hit up a kernel dev, its going to require some base level work. I would say try flashing a stock kernel but you would risk a brick.

flashing their radio and kernels will do you know good. especially the kernels. you just need to get into the programming menus of the USCC phone. i've yet to find the codes for it. :/

[Q] Enable Mobile Hotspot on Unlocked ATT Galaxy Note 2

We have a Galaxy Note 2 from ATT now. Just upgraded, so we're not using it. We want to take it to Europe to use as a phone and a hotspot for our computers on our trip. I've read that people do that with unlocked Androids and a European SIM.
I was able to unlock the phone with no problem using a data only T-Mobile SIM card in the process. The problem is that I can't turn the Mobile Hot Spot on. I've tried with the valid data only T-mobild SIM installed. When I try to turn the hotspot on, it says that either the network is not available, or there's an invalid SIM. I'm worried that it's the ATT restrictions on the phone that aren't going away even if the phone is unlocked, and there's a different SIM in place.
Does anyone know what we have to do to enable the hotspot, so that this phone can be used in Europe?
Thanks.

The thing that sticks out to me is that you actually need the correct Sim card that is provisioned for phone service.. I'm assuming this "data only sim" was provisioned for a tablet and therefore can't make any calls... the network unavailable message will show up even with no Sim installed and trying to enable a hotspot. You need a valid cell service in order to hotspot.
Hope Getting the Right SIM will do it.

Thanks. I hope that's what the problem is. It would make things simpler to be sure. I just didn't want to get there and then find out it wasn't going to work. In the meantime, I found my old Galaxy S 3. I managed to unlock it, root it, and install basic ROM. Thought maybe that would work, as well. I'll know by next week.

G925T Unlocked gets internet but cannot make calls or text

Hello guys,
I just got a G925T and unlocked it(root & unlock), installed a VZW sim and got the data to work. I cannot make any calls or text tho.... Any thought for a frustrated fella???
I have contemplated installing a rom and trying to change the message center number there because it cannot be done in stock rom... but not sure if its possible.
I have a g925t, could you tell me how you rooted and unlocked it? I've tried so many things and even bricked it twice.
ATT, Tmobile and the rest of the world using GSM network. but Verizon and Sprint is using CDMA network. Therefore if you use a GSM phone on a CDMA network, IT WILL not work!

If it does not work, how did I get the internet to work... is a matter of configuration. I know Tmobile locks the message center number so it cannot be edited. If there is a different way(like an app or flashing a configuration) I might be able to make it work, at least the text messages.

If you brick twice, you need to give up.
Stock isn't as bad as it's made out to be.
I gave up waiting for safe uncomplicated root, but it's still not possible.
Proper root is seamless and everything works on the first try.
That was possible with all the Galaxy phones before this model, but not with this phone.

From what i inderstand, Verizon mostly uses CDMA for voice unless you are in a VoLTE area. Even then I would say all bets are off for voice.

This. Sprint, Verizon and US Cellular are all predominantly CDMA voice carriers. While they support VOLTE unfortunately it's not standardized yet so it's hit or miss on devices but VZW systems usually just reject any non certified voice device which flips it to data only like a tablet. The Tmobile s6 isn't equipped with compatible CDMA radios as they're proprietary. The LTE portion of the system they use is standard (GSM) with the rest of the world which is why data works.

I went to Motorola to get the factory images for this phone, can't seem to find any.. funny with bootloader locked, I get a message, that a different software other than factory installed on phone.. How, when I flashed the flashall that is suppose to be 100 percent stock.
Found out what appears to be the issue.. Up at Sprint, my ICCID (sim) Doesn't match what's in the phone.. Why I do not know.. I gave them two other sim cards, and they claim they are not compatible but, one is the original one from the phone.. So tomorrow I have to go to Sprint and get another.. To add insult to injury, the Galaxy S6 I purchased, and billed as new.. In fact is not new, was a refurbished unit.. Ok, but the mic does not work.. Went to Sprint to get it replaced $75, but because it has a after market screen and not original, they won't touch it.. Again, no mentioned at time of purchase.. Luckily for me I'm getting my money back on it.. Talk about a bad day, and a couple of effed up phones..

Sorry, I need to clarify. Alot of Moto Z2 Force users have issues using their "unlocked" phones on compatible carriers. For instance, I have an unlocked Sprint Version of the phone, yet cannot use it on the Verizon network (even though both phones have compatible hardware). So there must be a glitch or Carrier lock in the phone's "Software Channel" preventing people from using their device on other networks (aka: have their phone unlocked).
Did using Lineage OS allow you to use your phone with whatever carrier (SIM change) without any modification besides the OS?
Please let me know if I need to clarify any further. Thank you!

Sorry. I did not use my phone on any other carrier.. But I believe this phone you can use on T-Mobile, Cricket or even AT&T.. Providing it is also GSM compatible.. A buddy of mine recently left Sprint, and has a Iphone 7 and he went to Cricket.. Best move he every made.. And not that the GSM is unlocked he can talk, and do internet without issues. I hope this helps. I also now have a LG G7 ThinQ as I was having issues with LTE and Call issues, and Sprint sent me that, and I sent then back my Moto Z2 Force.

Verizon is the only carrier you can't use. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. They must have your IMEI in their database to get calls, sms, MMS, etc. AT&T works, T-Mobile works... They are GSM so as long as the phone can connect to the towers, they don't care really.

Verizon is ALSO GSM and 4G LTE...and switching over to 5G. Strange thing is, when we initially got the Sprint phone and put in the Verizon SIM card, the phone actually recognized the Verizon SIM and all data, network, and calling WERE working, without having any dialog with Verizon (ALSO: without the phone's IMEI number on Verizon's database). It wasn't until the phone was updated to a more current Oreo Operating System that the SIM card wasn't recognized. Leading me to understand/believe that THERE DOES EXIST a ROM that allows a Sprint Moto Z2 Force to work on the Verizon network...just a matter of finding which one.
Also, when we installed Lineage OS onto the Sprint Moto Z2 Force, the Network options actually ALLOWED us to put in Access Point Name (APN) fields, but prevented us from saving them, saying user access denied (Rooting the phone may allow access to these settings?).
Also, once Lineage OS was installed, the Network could be taken off from, "Actively Connect" to a network and re-directed to a Carrier specific Network...Verizon being one of them, yet when doing so, we received an error message, "SIM card prevented linkage"....This we are assuming IS an issue with the IMEI (???), yet the IMEI # is different than the SIM #.
We currently are trying to work with Verizon Wireless to alter their, "Bring Your Own Device" settings to see if they WILL ALLOW a compatible hardware phone to be added to their platform by adding the IMEI to their database...
Still trouble shooting and fingers still crossed...
UPDATE:
Verizon working on Sprint Version Moto Z2 Force via Oreo OCXS27.109-48-3 (NOT listed in Motorola mirrors lolinet firmware page). We suggest doing an install of an older version of Oreo (i.e., OCX27.109-48 from 3/2018), then a "Motorola System Update" will pop-up suggesting you to update to version Oreo OCXS27.109-48-3...once install has completed, pop in your Verizon SIM card and voila! Network connection, data service, hotspot, & voice calling all working!
Now the key is to NOT do any future updates and disable the app "System Update" and force stop "Motorola Update Services" (if rooted, disable it!).
We're still working on what Sprint Applications can/need to get disabled, as notifications for "Mobile ID and "Mobile Installer" are still on the pull down notification screen. (Rooting most likely required for these).
