Help making a decision. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So after 6 years of being on my mother's cell plan I'm getting the boot. I have a decision to make now. In 3 weeks or so I'll be moving to Verizon and I'm having a problem making a decision on what phone to get. I'd like to get some pov from the community.
1. I could get the S3 but I don't see a big difference from my t989. It's just my opinion. I'm not to impressed with the S3. To me it just seems like an extra gig of RAM and that's it.
2. I could get a Galaxy nexus and save some money. Save some money till something more impressive than the S3 comes out.
What do you guys think? If I'm wrong I'd love to be told.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2

The difference in money is not worth jumping to S3 from S2.
Nexus is good, but no memory expansion....so I'll pass on it.
I would wait for Galaxy Note 2.....Now THAT I will buy too, even
if I love my S2....
Just my 2 (billion) cents here...lol...

When talking on the phone (Note), use a small bluetooth.
And when you do something else on it, yes it will draw
a lot of attention...just remember...they are ALL JEALOUS of you!!!
So, it will be a "good" attention!
:good:

Try considering a prepaid plan w/ the use of google voice and VOIP program. I've heard it saves quite a bit of money.
And if you do end up going to Verizon, buy a Note2 and sell it. It'll probably sell pretty darn high if it's unopened.

I would wait for the Galaxy Note 2. If you don't mind being on a GSM carrier, than I might also wait for the LG Optimus Nexus. Some of the leaked specs for it include a 1.5 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2 GB RAM, a 4.7 HD display, 8 mpix camera, etc. The best part is that the 8 GB model will retail for 299$ and the 16 GB will retail for 349$.

I'd love to get that phone for the simple fact that it will be pure android. Have you ever had an LG phone? Is the build quality like Samsung or HTC?

[Q] I can upgrade to S3 from S2 for $400, Worth it?

There's an S3 for sale, for about $400. It's a fair price, but I don't think I really need the phone. I have the S2 which I think is the perfect size and battery life is phenomenal with 4 hours of screen time.
However, the S3 looks great, and feels great, but again, for $400, is it worth it? I could maybe sell the S2 for $250 so the upgrade would cost $150.
Ahh, debating.
Oh and some questions, how's the battery life on the S3? Is Jelly Bean running well on the S3? Is it possible to get 3-4 hours of screen time?
Thanks for reading.

It's true, I was considering a Note 2, but that would cost two S3s. And the form factor is a bit of an issue, considering I prefer the size of the S2 to the S3.
Definitely considering it though....
Something else to consider. LG has the Optimus G (quad core snapdragon) and there's been rumors of samsung testing a phone with 3GB of ram. I'm sure soon enough samsung will have a phone with 3GB of ram and the quad snapdragon and you'll want that. I say save your money and stick with the S2 for now. It's still a great phone.
Just my 2 cents

I just flashed my S2 back to stock to give to my mom after not having seen or touched it in over a month and although it was my favorite android and still an excellent device, after getting in bed with the GS3 i could never go back. It would be like going back to dial up after using broadband, figuratively speaking. Having said that i'd probably agree with most everyone's opinion, there will always be a next best thing, and in the world of android its usually not far off. So unless you have the money to throw around to buy a new phone every 6 months, or you work for a wireless carrier and get the hook up like that, you have to pick your battles. On the other hand 150 bucks is probably less than you could get even the GS3 at upgrade pricing, much less any of the new future devices while they are this hot off the press.

Trade GS3 for Note II

Do you think it will be worth it to upgrade from my GS3 to the NOTE II?
I have read in the other gnote 2 forum there is a lot of other gs3 users who made the switch and are far happier with the note 2. U might want to take a look over there and see what they say

I returned my GS3 in order to get this phone. With all the quad cores coming out I felt that staying with a dual core would be a bad choice for my first android device. In reality it is all a matter of preference, I plan to use the s-pen in my college classes.
im doing it!
someone will buy my GS3 for $400 or so on craigslist. So i'm buying the $650 no commitment price and i have $100 gift card at best buy. so itll be $150 to me.. no biggie

I've got the same debate going on in my head and it's compounded by my sons (both CompE grads) urging me to get the Nexus 4. I've been enamored with the Note, since the original came out. I'll get the N2 on the 9th and use it for 3-4 days. I'll know at that time, whether it's the right one for me. If not, I'll return it and get the Nexus.
didnt they leave LTE off the nexus 4? That's a dealbreaker for me

I like the N4 and stock Android, but I don't want to live another 2 years with HSPA+.

I sell phones. I play with both and own a note 2. It's a personal thing, but if you are a power user, which I think you are because you are on XDA then you will LOVE the Note II. Once you use it you can't go back.
* The screen is so much better and brighter than SG3.
* jellybean and 1.6GHz Quad Core processor makes everything buttery smooth
* watching youtube videos are stunning in HD
* extra large screen is great for gaming! especally on emulators.
* Using it as a E-Reader for my Kindle App Books work superbly well as the screen is the size of a small paperback book page

And no removeable battery or micro sd card slot. Now thats just crazy google. This note 2 should be a monster. It includes all of the above and then some. The at&t version does have rgb led notifications right? I havent seen any videos showing it. And I definitely want to use light flow.

Is Galaxy nexus worth buy over the LG nexus 4 once its released ??

Hii guys,
So ive been saving up some money to buy my new phone. I initially chose the GNex since it is cheaper and other stuff. I'm from india and i thought of buying it from ebay india.
Anyway now that LG nexus 4 release date is close(will it be released in india this november ??) i'm wondering if its still a good move to buy the GNex. I heard that the LG nexus 4 have 2 gb ram etc etc better specs than GNexus ?? Is that true ??
So, i thought of ordering Galaxy nexus this week. Is that a good choice ??
If someone could help me making my choice i would thank it very much
Thanks in advance
Use common sense....plus they pulled gnex from playstore
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Needing LTE or being on Verizon or any other CDMA network are the only two reasons to stay with the GNexus.
lolz.. with that spec and with that price and with you made it obvious... you still dont know the answer?? the spec are way too high than gnex. its a different case if already have a gnex, but since you didnt... oh well "go go for Nexus 4" lolz...
i'm a Nexus collector so i'm getting it while I can.

We don't know if the nexus 4 will launch in India or not. Or when it would launch, if it does. Most people say it would likely be priced at 25k but no one knows for sure.
If you are willing to wait for more than a month for a possible release (which may or may not even happen) or are ready to spend over 25k to order it online and have it shipped, then the nexus 4 is a good choice.
The galaxy nexus is available right now for pretty cheap but it isn't as good as the N4.

It would have been so awesome if they still offered the GNex for like $99 off contract, that would have downright incredible, but obviously would have cut sales from the N4.

The Nexus 4 has a better CPU, GPU, more RAM, slightly bigger and higher resolution LCD screen, wireless charging, and larger battery.
Yet unless something happens to my Galaxy Nexus I'm not upgrading because I've decided there are two things I love about the Galaxy Nexus that isn't available for the Nexus 4:
1) AMOLED screen. I don't care that it's pentile. Maybe my eyesight sucks because I can't tell the difference between pentile and non pentile 720P screens. I can tell the AMOLED screens produce colors I like.
2) Swappable battery. This is crucial for me.
With that said... I wouldn't spend more than $200-$230 on a used Galaxy Nexus... because let's face it... the Nexus 4 is still a beast of a device for the money.
even im eager to buy one here in India.. but i think u shud see this http://pricebaba.com/blog/coming-up-nokia-lumia-510-lg-l9-htc-8x-one-x
Expected price is around 30k in India.. not confirmed though.. Saw in some italian blog too that even there its going to be priced around 550 Euros according to some credible sources.. so if it costs more than double the amt compared with US, I think getting a Gnex makes sense or ask some one to get it from the US.
we are always deprived of all good things in the world or shud pay a lot to get them.. sucks

just moved over to the note 2

from this phone, difference is literally day and night, im getting 6 hour screen time now
but for those that want to switch over, note 2 also has the infamous blob/vertical line issue
so beware.

t989 is still plenty fast, note 2 is faster, but thats a given
my issue with t989 is that the battery is really crap...after a full year of use the battery wont even last 3 hours screen on, so i figured id let my mom use it for voice only (which still goes on for days)

Yea I was just updating the GSIIIs in my store to 4.1.1. Much smoother than ICS. Although they still stutter and spurt a bit. Although I think that might be due to the crappy demo software T-Mobile loads floor models with lol. You can definitely tell with the notification toggles. They're were choppy on ICS, much smoother on JB.
And yes I agree with your s4 move. I believe Sammy may be putting their dual core a15 exynos/Mali t604 in it. I'm gonna pass on all phones this gen and wait for that. Its monster!! Have you seen the Nexus 10 in action?

Oops! Lol. I kinda thought that after I posted it....but too lazy to worry about it!
I have been eyeballing the Note 2, whats this about an S4 though? I would love the power of the Note 2, in a smaller package. The SGS2 is the perfect size. The Note even in my hands is huge.
The S3 wasn't enough of an improvement over the S2 to be worth it in my eyes. If the S4 shares some of the specs from the Note 2, like perhaps a Quad core CPU, 2 Gb of RAM, and an HD screen. I'm in.
Thought about switching but the phone just seems to big for my day to day use.
I was thinking about the s3, note 2 or waiting for the s4.
So how does compare in holding the s2 in hand vs the note 2

From what I've gathered the Galaxy SIV will sport a 5 inch 1080p SAMOLED screen, a quad core A15 architecture Exynos 5 chip possibly coupled with the Mali t658 GPU. Samsung is really trying to knock it out of the park with the GSIV. Can't wait for spring!

I hear the Note 4 will be awesome. Why not wait for it? There will always be a better phone on the horizon.
You could just buy the Note2 now, sell it as soon as the Note3 comes out and you will have most of the Note3 paid for.
Lol at the sarcasm. Umm I recently got it and love every bit of it, and don't see any chance of regretting in the futures. I tend to regret if there are issues or anything I am unhappy with, but NONE so far

You never going to get anywhere playing the "waiting game" with Android.. most def with HTC.. HTC One X, V,S den One X+ and now a Droid DNA, HTC J Butterfly.. and a rumored HTC Deluxe aka GSM DNA
Its always going to be a better phone than the current version..
Lets say you wait another year... and the Note 3 doesn't have what you expected..

Get the Note 2. When you get bored, then get the Note 3. :victory:
if they do a note III. There might be something completely different in 12 months!
my personal opinion would be get note 2 now.
because its still new, holds value pretty well, but once we are in 2013, i would consider S4.
to be honest I change phone roughly every 2 years, and I just get the one that I will be happy with, that's future proof ish (eg. LTE) for 2 years.
Note 6 is the best! Full 1080p 3D screen, and the screen is FOLDABLE!
I'd wait!

Impressive trolling.
Do your research, make your mind up and stop expecting to be spoonfed. You give no info as to what your needs are, hence any advice from others is almost as pointless as your question.
This is a dev forum, not halp-me-no-know-wot-I-want-me-5-years-old.com.
FFS.
Yes order the note 3 here,

Good luck & hope they make a good job of making it
i heard about the note 20 , it will include features such as teleportation, transoformation with a hit of a button, 100000mah battery 10 inch screen multiple quad cores in one and many other impressive features
Quad cores? Man who is your source? It has kilo-cores : 1024 cores

The Note2 is the best phone available today. I have used mine extensively for work and play, lots of travel and there is nothing that compares. My wife has an iPhne and my old GS2, and they both look like dinosaurs.
