[Q] Scratched Screen Repair? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I don't really know how, but on my screen I have a bunch of scratches all in one area and one of them is deep enough to feel my fingernail with. Obviously that deep scratch can't be fixed, but is there any polish or something that can help remove these scratches? They're very annoying to glance at when at a certain angle, and although a glass replacement would be nice, I don't think that's covered by warranty (I'm non-rooted, so haven't voided it), and a glass replacement could potentially cause problems with the display not being placed right or not being as responsive.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Dont buy any scratch removers, all BS. And dont worry about them
Seriously though, buy a nice sgp glas protector, or sgp normal screen protector. Or live with the chance it could get scratched again before you decide to sell it and get an iphone
Hey look, you sorta answered your own question, no?

Do you have any screen protectors to recommend? I want one that doesn't change the feel of the glass but idk really if that's possible. I'm kinda interested in the skins but they always have little cutouts for the menu and back button and I never have them lit up so it looks stupid.

There is this protector made from glass by thr company spigen sgp glas for the gs3 (I dont have this), and I have used many other protectors, but to me spigen has the best, spigen spg crystal clear. I love it (as much as I can without it being the real screen). Itd a dry apply, and I have never gotten a bubble, my second one now, they give you 3 in a pack and hold up pretty well. Id link, but im at my friends body shop, about to get my car looked at.

Yeah dont use polishes. I had some scratches and it actually made my screen look worse. Not that it made scratches worse but where i rubbed it looks different than the rest of the screen lol dumb mistake i shoulda just left it alone.

I was looking at Spigen earlier, were you talking about the glass screen protector or the regular one?
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy S III

I use XO Skins. I still need to do a review on my SGS 3, just trying to find a case I like to go with it. The one I did on my nexus has a video that shows them filling the scratches in.
You could also try using a lens restore kit from a autoparts store to buff them down, but that may screw up the coating, never tried it.

Another really good screen protector is the zaggs invisible shield, althought it feels kinda rubbery its well worth it, i got the extreme version protects it from high impact, but u can also get one for much cheaper and almost about the same quality thats has a smooth finish, is the clearplex, they have it for 14 dollars at clearplex.com havent bought but im gonnna soon. This company is well known for creating protection for glass from being damaged.

Are these better than the one that comes with a TPU case?

Thanks. Ordered it
Figured I'd ask here, instead of making a new thread. Does the GSII have gorilla glass like my original Epic?
Not sure why anyone needs a screen protector if so. I know some people still manage to get scratches, but I'm not sure how. I did some key-slamming-&-scribbling-tests on my first epic before I sent it in to assurion, and couldn't scratch the thing for nothing. I also use it at work so it gets beat up pretty good. Never had one scratch or blemish, and still don't.
I usually like my phone naked, but with this one being so thin, I'll probably be forced to get a case so it fits better in my hand (like I had to do with my Hero)
Epic touch 4g is gorilla glass from all the specs ive seen online.
I personally tend not to use screen protectors. I find just don't put it in the same pocket as your keys and your set.
I grabbed a TPU case the black matte one of amazon from TPU-cases and it comes with a free one. I might give it a shot, but screen protectors just seem to kill the touchscreen experience IMO. I've always run my ipod-touches without them and never a single scratch.
anyone have a review of this yet??
I have had skinomi protectors on all my devices (Xoom, iPad2, Htc evo, 3VO)

Having used both the two are very similar. I had the invisible shield on my pre and it had a bad orange peel look to it. On my Inspire in used the Skinomi be I didn't like the orange peel look of the invisable shield and I have to say I thought the skinomi one was far better the other it was clear as day and barely noticeable. It was smooth as glass I was very pleased with it. So much so I ordered one for my gs2et.
Ordered this. On its way. Will let you know how it work.

[Q] Tmobile Galaxy s2 Screen

hi, after reading that the international gs2 has gorilla glass and that the tmobile version doesn't, i was quite disappointed. i have no idea why they would take out the gorilla glass! so should i purchase a screen protector?

yeah i have a "anti smudge" screen protector, but it has the rainbow effect sometimes, and it reduces the nice glossy appearance of my phone...and I'm one of those people who can't stand putting anything on my phone haha. any suggestions for good quality screen protectors that aren't too expensive?
I use best skins ever on all my stuff. 12 android phones about 6 tablets few laptops. Works great and you would have to take a knife to my phone to scratch it. Plus they are quite inexpensive. Bestskinsever.com

While it may not be gorilla glass, it's still pretty resillient. As far as screen protectors go, if you usually keep your phone near keys, coins, etc then yes buy one. If not then you should be ok. I used to use screen protectors on all my devices but I stopped believing in them because I usually take good care of my devices either eay and the screen protectors took away the beauty from the device.
It really is just a matter of personal opinion.

I was using ghost armor on my sgs2 until I bought the GNote and tried sgp ultra crystal ( or is it ultra clear? I forget) and loved it! You can't even tell I have something on my screen. So I took off my ghost armor on the sgs2 and tried the ultra crystal, in my opinion it's the best screen protector I have ever used, and I've tried a lot! If it wasn't for the cut out for the ffc you wouldn't be able to see it. No rainbow effect, no orange peel look, no finger prints, no screen distortion, just clear beautiful view, just like the naked screen. I also bought the oleophobic for the GNote, haven't tried it yet, but I can't find it for the sgs2.

I second sgp screen protectors. Excellent and easy to apply. Just be wary of doing the matte option if your looking for anti glare... It will cause it to have a grainy look that is very annoying... Their normal protector is excellent.

I found out the same thing, only after putting the phone in my pocket with my keys. The screen with scratch so I highly recommend that you put on a screen protector
I'm glad this thread hasn't gone retarded with a bunch of assumptions and stuff.
Gorilla glass is just a name. other tempered/reinforced glass can be designed the same way or even better but is not called "gorilla glass".
Like others have mentioned, the glass is pretty sturdy and can protect it from scratches from most day to day objects and items that you use. However, sand in your pocket or on the table can scratch the **** out of the glass because it is compiled by a lot of different minerals.. shoot there might be even diamond in it.
I'm sure most active users on XDA take care of our devices and will be annoyed by the smallest scratches on the screen, so I would recommend a screen protector. It definitely helps prevent scratches and add an extra amount of "cushion" from small drops to prevent shattering your screen.
BTW I was fortunate enough to buy inexpensive screen protectors (like 5 for $4) on amazon and they turned out to be like the SGP ones. They were actually some of the best screen protectors I ever used, it felt identical to the glass. Just a thought if you decide to go the cheap route that there are some good and inexpensive generic ones.

Screen Protector Help

I'm a new GS3 owner, and I know they have Gorilla Glass 2. Is a screen protector needed? Besides protection, what do they provide? Asking for some advice, any will be appreciated.
You sure do need a screen protector. I thought I was using my GS3 very carefully, yet somehow it got quite a few scratches. So, don't hesitate to spend a few bucks that will keep your expensive device in good shape.. :good:

Yes its needed, unless you want tiny little scratches from quartz in your pocket. Besides protection? If our screens didn't need protection nobody would use a screen "PROTECTOR" hence that big bold word.
Do any screen protectors reduce glare? & Are there any you guys would recommned?
I'm not a fan of screen protectors, but if I have to pick one, I think the Spigen curved one is the best I've seen so far.
I was not interested in wearing one, but recently got an Incipio Silicrylic case that comes with what seems to be a decent screen protector, so I decided to give it a try.
The quality seems good, but I'm afraid it will peel off because of the curvy screen. This might not be the case, as it is hanging well so far, but I notice something that resembles a frame along some corners (only noticeable if you look at it with good light in the right angle).
Let's see if I can stand it in the long run
So yeah, if I have to buy one, I would go for a curved one that covers most of the front glass.
Go for an Bullkin protector(fullscreen) or an glass one.
SGP curved is rubbish, what a waste of money have I done on those SGP ones.
Bullkin one is in the Mercury thread here from kms108

Never had such a phone, where i needed a screen protector. So i decided that i need one to protect from small scratches. I bough SGP curved. Of course it is very think and cover the whole screen, BUT i think it shows so much fingerprints and the quality is poor (leaves many scratches).
So now i am looking for fingerprint resistan protector that covers the whole screen (i thnik protection from small scratches is by default).
No screenprotector is fingerprint resistant. Only the matte versions have it a bit. Clear ones not.

Spg/SPIGEN makes very good screen protectors. I really like the glass like feel and doesn't have that rubber feel like zagg. Right now I have the zagg hd screen protector on my s3. But that's only cause the person who I traded my rezound for this s3 had it on previously. The zagg hd is alright. Not to rubber feel like the regular zagg. There are other companies out there that make great screen protectors just research on what you want and the feel.
Btw I like your avatar. Been a long time Rams fan since they were in LA. I feel bad for Bradford. We need to give him some weapons to throw to. [Q] Screen protectors that don't make the screen look grainy?

I finally broke down and got an S3 today and also picked up a pack of the ridiculously expensive stick-on screen protectors that Verizon sells as I didn't want to take any chances in between buying the phone and getting some cheap ones. Anyway, the screen looks very grainy with the protector, especially when displaying lighter images. I really don't mind that much but when I'm taking pictures it really bugs me. I was wondering if anyone knows of a screen protector for the S3 that is durable but doesn't make the screen look all grainy.
Thanks!

I'm not a fan of cases in general, so I bought an Armor Shield full-body protector - essentially it's like screen protector film, but they send precut pieces to protect all of the phone rather than just the screen.
I'm really really impressed with the whole package - the body parts are cool in that they really just give a great grip (the stock phone is really slippery), but the screen protector is really impressive in all the ways screen protectors have disappointed me in the past.
This one doesn't feel rubbery (interestingly, since the body parts add grip), in fact my finger glides on it better than the glass surface. That was surprising.
And, this one doesn't collect fingerprint grease.
I'm betting armor shield sells the screen protectors solo... and probably affordable, I think the whole body package with the screen protector was only $15.
And it's clear, I think for your original question, just avoid "matte finish" screen protectors. Those are the ones with the hazy/grainy finish.

type of plastic used?

does anybody know what kind of plastic Samsung uses on the stock/default screen protector? I have looked at about 8 or 9 different so called "screen protectors" and they all have that "rubbery" or soft plastic feeling to them. the original one has the "galaxy note 2" logo and web address at the bottom and it is annoying but I like the way the original feels. so smoooooth.........
I rode my galaxy s epic 4g bareback for over two years all the way from froyo to jellybean. would be nice to find a screen protector that is smooth.
maybe I just have high hopes but I am hoping for the best. thanks in advance for anyone that helps or attempts to help.

Agree with you on the rubbery feel to most protectors, e.g. Invisishield, Phantom Skinz, etc. If you want one like the protector that comes on the phone then check out http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...note-2-screen-protector-steinheil-series.html. I have had their protectors on my GS2 and GS3 and will not use anything else, good protection with the feel of glass. Be advised that it takes a few days or so for the shield to 'loosen' up. At first it feels kind of 'sticky' but I think that's due to the manufacturing process but after some use(I presume after it gets some oils from your skin on it), it feels just like glass. Best protector IMO and I'm not alone in that opinion.
thanks. so what sub-choice would you recommend? ultra crystal, ultra fine, ultra oleophobic, or ultra optics? and does it have the same feel as the default screen protector that comes with the phone? sorry if I sound a little picky but I have spent well over $200 in screen protectors trying to get that "smooth" feel.
I really wish someone knew what type of plastic was used for the default screen protectors. when I called Samsung they were like "uuhhhh, I don't know".
Also, would be interested in figuring this out...I heard the Zagg protectors suck with device (along with all other wet application protectors). Anyone with a Spigen care to comment?

I have a Spigen ultra clear as I did on my EVO LTE. The screen protector is really easy to apply with no wet application necessary. They look crystal clear, you cant even tell its there, and the only thing is that you have to wipe off fingerprints every now and again, which is the case with any screen protector. The screen protector feels great to the touch and does not affect the S-pen or sensors in any way that I can tell. I must warn that the screen protector does cover the whole screen but not necessarily the whole glass surface as there is probably a millimeter or two left uncovered on each side. It really is not noticeable or any thing to worry about. In my opinion, this screen protector is far superior to the cheap ones, which in themselves aren't too bad.
I recently sold my EVO LTE and the guy was shocked that there was a screen protector on the phone as he could not tell. He commented later that he didn't even know that they sold screen protectors that you could not see....lol....
threestripebrand, that looks almost like the default protector without the note 2 logo. is it sort of a harder smooth plastic? not like the rubbery feel ultra soft/flexible ones? because if so i'll order as soon as I get confirmation from you.
