[Q] Is there an Android app that handles messages like a Blackberry? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Blackberry allows for a combined mailbox for push email (not just gmail), text messages, twitter notifications, facebook messages, etc. I cannot find a solid replacement for Android.
just wondering if theres any app or mod anyone knows that can do this?

Only separate apps available for each function:
Facebook for Facebook
Email app for email accounts
Messaging for SMS... etc

Also if you need group text messaging to BlackBerry and Apple devices, may I suggest Handcent SMS. You'll have to set it as your primary MMS application.

Developers are getting closer, but it's still not quite there yet. Try Streamlife in the play store. It's a work in progress, but a great app to follow for what you're looking for.

Facebook messenger app can used for both Facebook/SMS,MMS

Honestly this is the ONLY good thing I can say about BlackBerry and I wish it was implemented that well in Android. From browsing through the settings, it looks like Go SMS Pro *may* have the capability. I'm kind of assuming they will make you sign up for all their services though...

Universal messaging app

Is there an universal messaging app like blackberries have, where all ur txts, emails, and instant messages come to the same place? Something similar?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Yup.. Try Kik. Messenger. kik(dot)com
Kik doesn't do email and text in the inbox of the app..only kik messages
Whatsapp

Lol. Guys, it might be hard but it's worth actually reading what the OP wants before you blindly reply.
@OP: AFAIK, there is no unified or universal messaging solution on Android that supports IM,SMS etc..
Try pure messanger app. I get notified for everything with it and it has an awesome widget to.

^^Correct me if I am wrong, but that is not an App. It is just a widget.
Whatsapp can do that for you.

[Q] No Facebook notifications?

Hello,
The first week I got my GN, Facebook notifications were working like a charm.
Lately they stopped working completly. Both Facebook and Facebook Messenger.
Is there a real push alternative rather than the intrigrated one? They always seem to fail somehow?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It's Facebook's fault, their apps suck.
Logout from the App and log back in and adjust your settings again. Sometimes that fixes it.
Tried logging in and out with no luck
Is anyone else experiensing the same problem?

I'm getting notifications just fine if you go into the app settings you can set notifications within facebook rather than on the phone. alternatively you can sign up for mobile alerts or email notifications on facebook website from your account settings .

Well, I dont like email spamming from Facebook. Thats why I turned them off.
I've set notifications ON only in the app itself. Never seen such settings on the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Lol there aren't any on the phone I just wasn't sure if you thought there were. alternatively you can set up a new gmail account dedicated to your facebook and have notifications pushed there. Personally I just set a filter in my main gmail account 4 anything with the word facebook in the email address to go to a custom facebook label. I like to have access to those notifications in the event that comments are deleted or I need to refer to something. Although this means every time I get a facebook notification it's immediately followed by an email notification.

I've solved that by installing facebook messenger, works like it should within couple secs after a message is posted.

[Q] What mail app do you use? Mail, Gmail or other?

Hey guys,
I was really wondering.. What mail app do you use?
I previously always used the Gmail app, but since I got my HoX 3 months ago I only use the mail app, because of a better ui and usability, imho.
Do you use Gmail, Mail or an other app for your mail services? Tell us and discuss why!

For my gmail account I use gmail. For my work exchange account I use HTC's Mail app. I like them both and have never tried another mail app (don't like the idea of entering my account info in a third party app).

For Gmail I use the native app.
For my personal email, I used to use K9-Mail but have now switched to MailDroid.

imessage like app for SMS between android and iphone

I have to admit I went to the dark side for a while and the only thing I miss is imessage. I wish I could find a cross platform app to send all my SMS through that would try to use data connection app first but then drop down and send an SMS if the other person did not have the same app. Anyone know of an app like this? It would need to work between iOS and Android.

Just use Whatsapp. Never fails.
Could what's app replace the native SMS app so that if the receiving party does not have whatsapp it will send a SMS from your phone number?

Well, if the receiving party do not have whatsapp, they won't appear in whatsapp's contact list
Here's a quick list:
Viber
Whatsapp
GoSMS Chat
The closest thing you can get to your concern is probably GoSMS Chat. Though if iOS has GoChat, I can't really tell. Viber has both iOS and Android versions, so you can use that too.
I feel you man, I was always on a Android, then decided to switch to iOS just to check it out, got hooked with iMessage but I just can't live with the closed OS of Apple. So I got a GNex and never looked back
My friends and I just use Google+ Messenger app. Half of my friends have iPhones and other hand Android. We just use G+ to group chat. Works great.

Best Messaging App.

Just wanted to share the best messaging app to date.
App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra
Emoji Plug-in
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra.emoji
Its in the Play Store why you so hype?
Well I've spent countless hours trying to get a good sms app. I've tried them all Go SMS, Chomp SMS (Same Developers BTW), Handcent, AOSP Messaging, Etc... and they tend to get laggy at some point or lack group messaging or both. In other words i'm just trying to share my happiness.
You Welcome.
Give facebook messenger a try it works . Lots of emojis... btw I don't even use Facebook

I would say facebook messenger would definitely be 2nd best in my opinion. I dont like the loading time on it besides that it is filled with features. Textra is just so quick and it just works. By the way anyone who likes the facebook messenger notification bubbles should look into Ninja SMS. Textra and Ninja SMS work great together.
Seems great. Am i just missing something though? The description in the play store says it is semi customizable. I don't see any customization options besides the color of the default icon when a message is received.
Edit: re read the description and everything makes sense now. I thought they had theme options and stuff. Oh well! I'm definitely keeping this app and waiting for their next update. Thanks

Just tried this, haven't found anything as good as Sliding Messaging yet though. It's got three different layouts and the emoji are so much better.
Just tried it and it missing a lot that handcent has. Customize options. Also does not have any themes to it. I think in a few months after a lot of feedback it might be good
We chat is cool with the audio messaging

This kind of annoys me because I paid for Chomp.... Why not just integrate the features. Oh, I know! Let's make a new app to get more money if and when we make it a paid app.... Maybe?

I like the fact that it has emoji integration but the app itself looks hideous. It's attempt at trying to be holo looks like a crossbreed between sense and gingerbread. Nonetheless it works fine.

Differences between Textra and Chomp?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Textra seems like a simplified version of Chomp. With the swipe to return to conversation list. You can't change the colors of the chats.
Has anybody tried Invi?
