[Q] Upgrading LG Optimus G L-01E to 4.1? - LG Optimus G (International)

Hi Guys/Gals
How would one go about upgrading the software of the Docomo LG Optimus G L-01E from the stock standard rubbish it will come with ie 4.0 Ice Cream with skin to the latest clean 4.1 version?
Note that the Korean and Japanese versions of the Optimus G do have differences vs other international models including built in one seg TV antenna.
Im assuming cyanogenmod would not be an option.
Im hoping the bootloader will be unlocked as I remember reading somewhere that Docomo will not lock its bootloaders or the phones (to a network) any longer in 2012???
Thanks

mmmm beautiful beast
Loving it!
Now how do I get rid of all this clutter and up it to latest JB rom without losing functions? eg tv, nfc, infrared etc?
also is there an app that can do the LG tweaked features eg voice shutter, multi shot, video PIP and transparency etc?

I'd love to know as well before I buy one myself ! Have you found anything yet ?

I have this same version on its way to me now, does it fly like the wind? What are your initial thoughts?

This thing FLYS.
I have the phone, and the quad core and better GPU definitely make this phone run buttery smooth.
It also has an amazing screen with a nice, crisp, display.
Its a 10/10 in my opinion.

no official JB release for Optimus G until December.
http:// www.engadget.com/2012/10/15/lg-outs-jelly-bean-update-itinerary-for-korea/ <remove space>

dude..being someone who already has this(mine will be next week) what are your thoughts/opinions about this phone? by buying it..hav i made the right decision? i mean, compared with the other variants ofcourse

Overall its a fantastic phone. What else can I say?
All phones have mods and cons. Biggest con for me so far is waiting for a rooting method and JB rom so I can wipe all the docomo crap and have a clean updated rom etc.

Youll receive 4.1 some day as official Docomo update.
But im afraid you wont be able to get cm10 or 4.2 cause the L-01E really differs from other versions, as owners says, even the optimus g root patch doesnt work on it. Also its just rare outside of japan.
So you should compile the custom rom by yourself

yeah Im hoping there is enough users of the phone here to be able to do it. Maybe there is a japanese forum that has already done it?
I would have no clue as to how to do it.
Im assuming though that it shouldnt be very difficult and would probably require saving of drivers that are specific to this model and might not be included in standard JB.

hope someone help to root it soon
will get my device soon
can't wait enjoying it

i do hope as well...

I not need upgrade to JB
But need any root method with bypass or any exploit. Then can modify my ICS
hope we will find

No Jelly Bean for Captivate Glide?

Samsung has released a list of devices that are scheduled to be updated to Jelly Bean. Missing from this list is the Captivate Glide. Oddly enough, they've chosen the Galaxy Chat (a phone that clocks in with a single-core, 850 MHz processor and a 1200 mAh battery) as the qwerty phone to update. (Indeed, all the phones to be updated are "Galaxy" phones.)
Source: The Verge
If our phone can run ICS, it can run JB, Samsung can't try to blame TouchWiz in this case like they did with the first Galaxy S when they said that the phone was in fact capable of running ICS, but not with TouchWiz, in our case, if the phone can run ICS with TouchWiz, it can run JB with TouchWiz.
So, please, Samsung, enough with the BS, and start working on JB for the Glide, I don't want to have to wait till 2013 to get the proper JB Source Code, because, that's the only thing that matters for me, the Source Code with the propietary drivers, because, let's be honest, who the f*ck wants JB with TouchWiz on top of it ? I want pure, stock, unmodded, untouched, vanilla Android.
It's no surprise, really. Doing ICS for the Glide has proven to be a hell of a lot more work than they anticipated and it's only sticking to their word that's keeping them at it.
We WILL have Jellybean ROMs of our own. There's no important kernel differences, it will come in time. Have patience, this is a ***** of a phone to develop for.
If Samsung Galaxy R gets Jelly Bean, then there's very, very good chance that we, me, and you will get to have Jelly Bean OS, just it's difficult to develop something that work, due to the difficulty of dealing with the useless digital blobs. It's like building a house without the foundation AND excepting it to stand.

Aren't updates for carrier based phones dependent on carriers (in this case AT&T or Rogers)? So Samsung won't comment on those phones. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Didn't At&T make the initial announcement last time for ICS?
That is one thing I hate about Android, the updates and not getting them.I must admit my next phone may be a nexus as those always get the updates since they are the ones Android is developed for. I may have to say by to the hardware keyboard and replace it with a Bluetooth keyboard case. Till then 2 more years with my glide and what ever little updates that intakes.

LOL I actually hate the proprietary phones much more. They are 100% useless if you are looking for a phone that you could customizable. I perfer Android more than any other phone OSes (personal perference).

Nexus is running Android. It is the phone Google makes all its builds for. Nexus is fully customizable as well.
I know Nexus is an Android hardware, in fact I wish I can afford to have this (pretty expensive - $400 to 1,000 depending on how "fresh" it is on the market and what's inside it).

hello d man is working on a custom ics rom for us. once he has finished that project he has promised us a jelly bean custom rom as well. so dont panic, the dman is to our rescue. I can tell you if you are expecting to have an AT rom for jelly bean they will mes that one as they did with the ics rom update. So i wont install any att rom from samsung and will wait for the dman to provides his custom rom and will have no more at bloat ware and it will bea vanillia experience of android ICs and Jelly bean since he is working with pure Android code from google AOsP, and AOKPA. If i am spelling these short codes names.

I thanked you accidentally. The Galaxy Nexus is actually selling for a pretty reasonable price on the Google Play store, I think around 350.
I see. There are MORE than one Nexus out there, though.

NO, none till date.
Thanks for reply, I am currently using xperia pro, and would like to shift to glide because of better hardware spec. How would to rate glide and associated experience. Is it worth switching? Keyboard is real concern here else better spec phone alreay available in market.

Greetings.
I was switching from an MK16i, and i have to say it really worth it! The Captivate Glide beats the Xperia Pro in every aspect, except battery life (it's roughly the same).

[Q] Do you think we'll get another OTA update?

With the agonizing teeth-pulling feeling we all had waiting for JB on our phones, does anyone expect or think that we will get another update from LG for this phone?
Whether an incremental bugfix or a JB update to 4.2.2, just curious who thinks they'll officially release another update for us LGOG users. Discuss...

I cant imagine seeing 4.2 until at least the GS4 drops. At this point, only the N4 has 4.2, right?
I thought the note 2 was rocking 4.2?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
No smartphone has 4.2 at this point but Nexus devices. I do believe there is a tablet or two that have them(Asus I think is one of them).
S4 will ship with it in the US in May. Htc One will update to it around June. At that point we might have Key Lime Pie in the new Motorola being rumored. I would assume LG will update this device to 4.2 in June or July....maybe later. This phone will still be LG's flagship phone then. Only recently has it had a global launch.
The only way a device can stay relevant when phones with superior hardware are available is better software(Apple's philosophy on phones & computers). It is also cheaper than making a new flagship phone every quarter. So even if LG doesn't update, it would probably be wise for them to.

maybe we'll see a pro pack upgrade like the Optimus G Pro got... and they bring 4.2.2 with it. unless KLP drops very soon... I dont think this phone will ever see a KLP update(officially).
AOSP will surely carry us along for the good updates.

Optimus g ?

Soo im going to my self a new device tomorow and got my eye on the optimus g and nexus 4
Wich one should i get???
On one hand i get all the latest and greatest and i like the stock android rather than lg's ui and with the optimus g i get LTE and an extra 16 gb of storage...
I also have some concernes... Ive seen complaints on the web about the optimus g overheating.. Any of you experiencing it ?
Lg ui gesture is the most fluid and smooth ui.far better than tw and sense.not so much bloat and most of those apps you will find them useful.we already have 4.2.2,with almost no bugs, but it can be a daily driver.i don't have heating problems and i'm a power user, runing this phone like crazy.didn't notice to get hotter than my previous devices.
The only advantage of n4 is the vanilla.but g is over n4 on every other aspect.better cpu, better camera, bigger storage, even microsd slot in some cases.
Of course the final call is yours.

A stock OG only has 4.1.2 at the moment. You can flash a custom rom after rooting and unlocking and get 4.2.2 though.
I may be wrong but before I flashed a 4.2 ROM yesterday, the last update put me up to 4.1.2.

So far I havent heard anything about it. If you do decide to flash a rom I reccomend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228880
I've been using it since yesterday morning and its been nothing but awesome. I'm sure you do know that unlocking bootloaders and rooting voids warranty so it is a use at your own risk method.

Petition to LG

We all know now about the up and coming Nexus 5, which LG is again the manufacturer. It will be launch (according to rumor) with the latest Android version 4.4 or was it 5(?) called KitKat.
The G2 is very much here. 4.2 out-of-the-box with all it's niceties.
Now we, GPro user/owner probably wondering what LG's instore for our neglected capable device. We're still on 4.1 and should be on 4.2 by now. And one could even ask if we could still see the light with 4.3, much more with KitKat.
Will a petition be of any help from GPro user to send LG a clear voice demanding support from them? Will they listen thinking that we're just small in number?
The GPro was my first LG (smart)phone and really have no idea how they are with support. Was LG notoriously sucks with updates?
Will a PETITION work?

Don't get your hopes too high, mate. They're making some really good phones, but unfortunately, they've chosen to stick to their "no update" policy. They've abandoned the Optimus G, just like they've abandoned other flagships before. The same's the case with the G Pro. As it's going to be with the G2, too. I've been really tempted by the G Pro (LG, in my opinion, have the best displays of the lot), but seeing their poor record of updates, it makes me think twice.

You didn't do too much research if you have to ask that. Combine LG's propensity to not release updates with AT&T's 6 month vetting process after its released and you can pretty much expect that nothing north of 4.2.2 will ever hit the G Pro. I'd assume once the G2 is out for 60 days there will be a 4.2.2 International G Pro update then maybe 90 days to 6 months later an AT&T update. By then no one will care and the device will have already been EOL'ed.
If you want a newer Android version on a non Nexus phone you're going to have to flash them with a ROM. Its a sad state of affairs for the Android eco-system but at least there's an upgrade path of some sort, even if its manual.
from what I know, LG has always been very very slow with update.
Better sit and wait for it. I don't think we will be forgotten.

LG : Just like Samsung, LG hasn't issued any official release regarding updates but since Nexus 4 is getting one, it is safe to assume that others will follow suit. Remember Optimus G is very similar to Nexus 4 on the insides. The following LG devices may get updated soon.

Optimus G2

There arn mucht different in JB. 4.2.2 its bugs with change files management. The 4.3 GE dont work w some games.
4.2+ finally handles group sms correctly. Not sure why it's taken this long but it's much needed.

One of my favorite books ever is Harry Browne's How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World. In it, he talks about "direct actions" and "indirect actions." Direct actions involve doing something to get what you want. Indirect actions involve trying to change someone else's mind so they'll give you what you want. Direct actions are usually quicker, easier and more reliable.
This proposed petition is a perfect example of the difference. We can either spend a lot of time and effort putting together a petition hoping to change LG's mind in a month or two, or we can just root and flash on our own and have the newest OS (4.3) today.
5 cents, please.

[Q] Do you think we'll ever get a stock 4.3 or 4.4 rom?

I know LG said they'd skip Android 4.3 for the G2 and go directly for 4.4 which means even their flagship phone will have to wait for a while. So I'm wondering if our tablet will get any updates from LG at all. Would be nice for the devs to have at least some new source codes to work with. I haven't been able to find any info on this, what do you think?
LG are notoriously crap at providing updates. Don't hold your breath. But until then, my G Pad works fine on 4.2
