I think the S3 is a better phone, it just needs to be rooted. I wouldn't trade it for the Nexus.

I would trade my nexus for gs3, want to trade with me?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U

The S3 is a newer phone with updated spec. What is it that you don't like about the S3?
I think the potential is there once it is rooted and gets injected with some sweet custom ROMs.

I just miss my gnex. Stock jelly bean and pure Google. I liked the phone better. And I'm getting $100 with it.

If you want a Gnex, simply trade for it. If you're going to be looking at your phone multiple times a day, you better make sure it's the one you want.
So what if the S3 has better hardware? If you want the Gnex more, the S3 isn't any better in your own POV at the end of the day.
Edit: and since I provided you with such wisdom, you can compensate me with the $100 you'' get from the trade

s3 doesnt have a customizable nav bar and will always be behind with android updates. Not to mention all the already great roms that have had plenty of time to work out any kinks on the nexus. The only thing I really want on my nexus is a memory card slot, Ill take a better camera but the one is has is pretty damn good for a phone anyway.
Id say take the trade, when I was looking for used phones the nexus was around 300 and the s3 around 400 so you fit right in there getting the extra bill.

Here's the ad for the one I'm gonna go for. I found a better deal, this +$110. This phone hasn't been used.

He says factory unlocked, his boss won it as some prize. I live in Canada on Rogers so would a factory unlocked just come from Google? Or aren't all Google phones factory unlocked?

We got the S III last week, and been wanting to put up some comparison shots between the Nexus and the S3.
disclaimers:
- I use the nexus on daily basis, and have been for the past few months, so my opinion might be biased.
- the nexus is modded. the S3 is stock.
Feel: both phones feel about the same weight, however, to me, the S3 feels bigger when holding it (probably because of the bigger screen size). The nexus' textured body gives a much better grip than the S3s smooth body.
Display: You probably can't tell from the pictures, but the nexus has a curved display and the S3 doesn't. both displays are great, and with the right ROM/Kernel, they'd both look beautiful.
Performance: S3 feels faster than the nexus.. even with the stock ROM. Their hardware specs aren't the same, so no surprise there.
I was really waiting for the S3 to come out, as some of you may have as well. Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll try to answer all that I can.

I know. Noticed it now. Can't move it myself? (or delete) waiting to see if someone can help.
I am not going to blame you but, please read the rules and watch where you post
Is the Nexus running JB?
Probably not, a friend of mine also has a S3 and I own the Gnex of course. The Gnex is faster than the S3 with Jelly Bean on the homescreen and opening apps. The downside is of course the hardware and the S3 is way better in benchmarks, but anyway, jelly bean makes the Gnex really unique, at least until the S3 gets jelly bean.

running ParanoidAndroid
$350 vs. $650+
Nuff said.
+15-20% performance for almost double the price.
S3 is a very nice phone that has very poor value.
You think the Gnex dislplay is beautiful? Pffft, that phone feels so ghetto after getting my One X.
i prefere the pure unlocked UI untouched google phone! and that is Gnexus 4ever!
Using a non Nexus phone makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen as far as software-side is concerned, and I concern about that. I went through 4 Android phones in the last year and the Nexus is where I'm gonna stay until there's another Nexus that's worth upgrade to, likely next year.
Q&A!
I have both s3 and nexus I think with jelly bean nexus is fast but all I
Over s3 is better.

I have a GNEX running JB with Franco Kernel and personally it is pretty much perfect for what I use it for. I gave up buying the latest must haves a few yewars ago as I found that I wasn`t really using them to anywhere near their true potential.
I can`t see me changing my current phone for sometime yet. Just does all I need.
Displays look nice but that hardware button on the s3 really throws off the looks for me...

This was a stupid comment. You probably never been near a real ghetto to even be able to make that comment. Just sounded cool, huh?
There is a thread in the stickies for phone comparisons.
Thanks

Thank You

Hello, XDA Community!
I hope this thread doesn't break any of the rules from the "n00b" video, but I just had to say thanks to all of you. I'm 31 years old and I FINALLY got my first cellphone yesterday. It was the typical debate, iPhone vs Android, both have pros and cons, but I ended up going with my heart and picked the Galaxy Nexus. I also convinced my fiance to get the same one (she wanted to get the Samsung Galaxy S Glide because of the keyboard). Anything would have been a step-up for her (she had the BB Bold 9700). FYI for anyone wanting to know... DO NOT update the BB Bold 9700 to OS6, it just can't handle it properly! Stick to OS5!
Anyway, the reason I'm saying thanks is because I pretty much learned everything I needed to know about Android from XDA. I could unlock, root, install CWM, and flash stock Google images in my sleep, GNEX Toolkit or Command Prompt! The only thing missing was the actual phone...
As soon as I got home with it, that's exactly what I did. I unlocked both our phones, got rid of Yakjuux in favour of Takju 4.0.4 (I know, I know... Google Wallet doesn't work in Canada yet, but whatever...), installed Adobe Flash, and updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 OTA. To top it all off, I rooted it this morning and I have a nice Superuser icon on my main homescreen. I'm loving it!
Once again, thank you all! I hope I can contribute to the XDA Community and help others the way you have all helped me. I've already installed the Android SDK and all the Eclipse plugins needed to code for Android. I will try to get back into Java programming, for Android this time. Needless to say, if I ever create a killer app, I will post it here first!
Oh yeah, and if anyone is wondering, I got my GNEX from Rogers here in Canada (6 GB Super Plan). A few weeks ago, they jacked up the price from $75 back up to $150; then about a week ago, they pulled it from their website. It seems as though it is being discontinued, but you should still go to your carrier of choice because they might still have some lying around. They were selling them for $30 but ended up giving it to me for free as long as I paid $27 for some lame screen protectors (which I am not using).
Take care!
This is XDA, so you're NOT welcome
Welcome. Seems like you have certainly made the effort at least

$27?!
That's awesome though! I hope that you thoroughly enjoy your first cellphone!
This was my first phone where I'm actually okay with how it runs and haven't rooted it! After 3 other android phones, I think I'm settling down with this.
I hope you keep yours for a while and do the community proud!
Welcome!

Think i just found sound proof that t-mobile will be getting the galaxy note 2;)

OK so I was just browsing xda and in general forum I seen the ota live updates posted by Adam. Very awesome by the way. Anyway the note 2 is supposed to be the t-889 and running 4.1.1 now the sgh and the T is a dead give away for T-Mobile and even more so in these screen shots the "t-889" is already running 4.1.1 and getting a maintenance update (small) to 4.1.1 also it has the same baseband as our beloved sgs3 UVALH2 . observe in screenshots......idk I think I stumbled right into that. I could be dead wrong but thought this was cool

have you paid for your GS3 all out? or if you sold it./.. would you still be paying equipment charge on that and on the note? or will the equipment charge just transfer to the new buyer?

I paid $279 for it when it came out. I am not paying anything extra a month for it. I would sell it on ebay for $500 and pay the difference out of my pocket for it
nice :good:

Need your opinions...

So right now I have an evo4g lte (not a thing wrong with it). Sprint sent me a white galaxy s3 (refurb) with only 15 total life calls on it and less than an hour of use. It only came with a charger. It was basically sprint saying, hey sorry for a messup try out this phone if you don't like it send it back...or keep it and send back evo.
Questions...
When I got the evo I purchased best buys buyback on the evo. Wouldn't I lose the buyback on the evo ? What's the best deal to not lose money? (got evo on release day)
Why would a refurb have such little use and are refurbs a concern?
My next upgrade is Feb 2014.
I've took a look already of what others said pros and cons are.
Just looking for advice from community to come to a decision
Thanks!
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Stick with the s3 man you won't be disappointed. Night and day difference in quality and performance over your evo.. Buyback plan may switch to the s3 since they sent it to you but I'm not sure. You made money off this deal by them sending you that phone regardless of it being refurb. I've rarely had an issue with any refurbished devices.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Why is Sprint sending you a reverb when your evo has nothing wrong with it?
Aside from that it's your personal opinion on which one you like more. I can't stand HTC phones so I'm no help.

Wow lucky person lol. I'd stick with the gs3 but I'm biased. My wife's old evo ruined HTC for me.
Sent from Pluto.
The S3 is better than the Evo LTE in my opinion. I also can't stand Sense or HTC support. Its not a huge upgrade though. I would talk to Best Buy about how much they would give you etc. But just to be very clear the S3 has better hardware and software and will get upgrades for Android faster and more often.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Gotcha....
I guess my only concerns now is it appears if the phone is replaced and the buy back isn't attached to the esn then you lose out in the program if I take the galaxy...or keep what I have for another year and figure that I won't be paying out if pocket a whole lot of money for the next greatest thing.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Well here's my opinion on the gs3 or evo lte why I got the gs3 was one the fact that I can't stand not being able to switch batterys if needed but other than that they have just about the same specs and I just liked the look of the gs3 better and flip covers they look so cool right haha just wish Samsung made black gs3 for sprint

If the Note 2 is really that awesome as you call it, why jump ship? Heck why worry about the software update at all?
Just saying. It is a great device but i wont ditch it just because an update takes a while.
I have a HTC One, Nexus 4 and Note 2.
When i put 4.3 on my HTC One i made that my primary phone. When the Note 2 gets 4.3 ill make that my primary for a while.
Guess that sounded disgruntled. Sorry bout that, didn't mean to come off that way.
It's just that I've had android since cupcake and the longer I continue with android the more I realize one of my favorite parts is the expedited progression of it. Over the years I've become quite find of the updates. I guess you can say it's become something I look forward to. It's not that I loath this device by any means but my preference is leaning towards the update facet of it. The only logical conclusion to meet my happiness is climbing aboard the nexus train.
Why is the right door always locked?
That makes more sense.. I was like, whoa, this guy thinks the phone is awesome why is he jumping ship. LOL.
I think im in a unique position working in the wireless biz fixing / repairing them and buying and selling them. .
Im looking forward to my Note 2 getting 4.3. Im actually going to make it my daily phone for a week just to test it out again. My Nexus 4 was my daily phone as well till i put 4.3 on my HTC One.. Its a natural progression.
Now i see your whole statement in a different light, less angry and more hey time to try something different..
Nah.. not angry in the least. I think I'm just ready for a change of pace that's all.
Why is the right door always locked?
