[Q] 4.1.2 breaks stock tethering? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Yesterday i recieved the notification that 4.1.2 was ready for install on my stock yakju galaxy nexus. After the install i noticed i could no longer tether (that same day i had tethered my xoom over wifi pre update). Today i tried to tether with wifi, usb, and bluetooth and not one of them will work. I've reset the computers/tablets, i've reset the phone, and i'm 100% stock with no root.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? my googling has turned up with nil.
I'm debating doing a factory reset, but would prefer not to if anyone has some suggestions i can try. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I had the same problem. However, FoxFi just updated their app to work with 4.1.2. I also got the FoxFi addon. Not sure if the add makes the difference or not.

hSo it's not working with stock but it works with foxfi?
edit: Strike that, just tried foxfi, no dice. I also tried a factory reset... no dice. i'm going to try a full flash of takju.
edit2: double strike that, just tried the full flash and nothing

Tethering works fine for me on 4.1.2, i just used it and it was as good as always

I have the same problem. After 4.1.2 update my wifi tethering stopped working. I have still no idea and I'm looking around. Keep the thread updated if you find a solution!

Wifi tethering won't work for me but Bluetooth will.

i'm curious, what frequencies does your provider use? mine is 850/1900 HSPA. i think. My theory is that it's only broken for some frequencies, which could be valueable debug info for the google people

My carrier uses 850/1900 3G bands. My issue is my tablet sees the connection and connects but the wifi icon never goes blue so it never gets internet.

Problem solved
I have solved the problem using "ISWAT tether unlocker" on google play
Open the app, click on the button "Unlock tethering", wait for the video completion, ad the tethering magically works, try it and let me know

[Q] Wifi Tethering on JellyBean

Hi,
I'm running Vicious V3, and am having issues with wifi tethering. Everything seems fine when I turn on hotspot and my PC will attempt to connect, but as soon as my PC obtains an IP address, 4G/3G drops out on my phone. If i turn off hotspot, my data connection returns with no issues.
Anyone else see this?
Thanks
same problem here...
I'm having same problem. Well, not exactly the same but still. My stock hotspot has never worked in ICS Roms either. I was using wifi tether app and it was working like a charm. But since I got the jelly bean, none of the wi fi tethering apps work. I guess I'm waiting on the update of the app itself.
I've tried Vicious 1 JB, and V5 as well. same problem.
Wifi tethering works fine for me on CM9, so it at least works in ICS ROMs afaik. I've been planning on flashing mROM stock JB soon so I'll have to try that out. Maybe I'll try Vicious as well to see if I have the same issue.
Thanks for replying. Yes like I said. It used to work great in ICS Roms but not in Jelly Bean. Please let me know what to do!!!

Works fine for me now on all JB ROMs I've tried. The tethering apps dont work on JB, but the native wifi tether does. If you dl MoreQuicklyPanel from the play store, you can toggle hotspot from the notification window. I dont have the wifi tether plan from Verizon, and AFAIK using the native hotspot in JB doesnt get back to verizon for charges.
Thanks for the reply. I lost you when you mentioned
"If you dl MoreQuicklyPanel from the play store, you can toggle hotspot from the notification window. I dont have the wifi tether plan from Verizon, and AFAIK..."
What should I try to do from Play Store???
When I tried to use the natives wifi tethering, it connects to the other devices but there is no data bytes being exchanged. It's almost like you're connected to the internet but the web sites do not load up.

Wifi tether doesn't work with jelly bean.

Anyone having problems with wifi tether? I am on mrom 1.3 and jelly bean 4.1.1 and I cannot get it to work. No devices find it. Anyone have this problem?

i had no problem for the 2+ years i was tethering and using it as my home internet. then one day a few months ago, i got the same message from tmobile. point is, it only takes one time. it has nothing to do with jelly bean or ics, or gingerbread. now i pay $15 a month to tether and use it as my home internet.
Alright, thanks. I hope that is not the case.
Does anyone else have any other experience after switching to jelly bean? Anyone replicate this problem or have an app that works?

Also, I have tried wireless tethering, which is based on same open source software.
It says it started tethering with errors and to check the log, which then says that the log doesn't exist and it can't open it. Same error with opengarden tethering.

my epic 4G has a wifi tether app ( the yallow one ) anyway when i use it to connect my Google Nexus 7" tablet before i update to 4.1.1 it works but after i updated to the latest jelly bean my nexus wont even find the signal anymore,
BTW i tried SVTP WiFi Hotspot and USB Tether - Lite it works but is it safe or does the carrier detect that , thanks
I am on Verizon, and I had a lot of issues when I first moved to jb on 4.1. Originally I used wireless tether app, as I used it on every other version I had. It would not work. I even tried using barnacle from the party site, and same thing.
I finally switched to 4.1.1, and just used the built in tether, and it has been working fine for about 3 weeks now. I never got a message about being to call tech support, but then again this is Verizon and I am not sure who your provider is.
It might be like someone said above about them knowing you are using it, and you need to call to set it up. If that is the case, that sucks.

Its finding a UA string reporting it as a desktop browser. Download a UA string spoofer for your desktop browser to make it report as a mobile browser.

Yup seems like jb broke the app, I can tether with the native app but on Sprint that knocks you off wimax and only leaves you with 3g. I can confirm its a jb thing because its working fine on my wife's evo that is still on 2.3 also worked fine on ICS. Like others it seems to start up fine but my tabblet won't pick it up.
something clever goes here...
After alot of hit and misses I finally got internet access using pdanet, foxfi, and enabling bluetooth network access. It's not the best but it was wiresless and free.

WiFi Tether

I have looked and searched through this forum and the dev forum and I can't find a fix for my issue. I load up from the store and install ok, give it root permissions set the profile, and it works, turn it off and back on and it doesn't work, seems if I change the profile sometimes it works again but never twice in a row with the same profile.
Any ideas.
I have tried the access control thing thinking that would help but no luck.
Try Clearing data. Use Generic ICS and select routing fix.

But just tried the same thing and use the Nexsus cdma/lte one and it works now every time.

This is how I got mine working, by using the galaxy nexus lte profile. I had trouble at first, but it's worked fine ever since I selected that profile.
omg, I've been trying to make wifi tethering work all night. Did as bluebeast suggested using the nexus profile and it works perfectly! thx

I am using the Samsung Galaxy S3 profile on mine. I found that it works the same as a hidden SSID. I was able to successfully connect from my laptop, even though the SSID did not show in the available networks list. I actually prefer this, as I believe it makes my tethering more secure. Now that I've saved the profile, my laptop & other devices connect automatically.

Sadly, having a hidden SSID is really only going to keep the old ladies out. much in the same way I like to believe having MAC address filtering makes me secure. Depending on where and how you use it though is everything.
That's true, but it is the first layer of additional security.

Is it possible to use wifi tether and 4G at the same time?
It seems like everytime I turn on my wifi tether, the phone downgrades to 3G?
I'm just using the stock wifi tether feature on AOKP Build 4.
The only wifi tether I have gotten to work properly on all roms is wireless tether for root users (its the yellow one) free on marketplace.
If it is still not working, change your profile in wifi tether app to galaxy nexus.

Google it, you'll find a link to be able to download it and sideload. Sprint blocks free tether apps on the market. You may also be able to get it from PC playstore and then to your phone, but finding it on Google and then sideloading is much simpler

Hi again, sorry I totally derped it up on the name of the app. The one you found is by same developer but not the same app...I dunno haha. Either way, here is the link to the app I was originally talking about.

What about USB tethering?
It appears that the instant you select a tether option 4g disconnects. This solution works for wifi (as i am submitting this post using it now), but using any of the AOSP ROMs appears to have the 4g tethering drop off issue.
Ultimately if I can't find something I'll just give in and spend the $$ on a usb wifi adapter.

Ghost Donwloaded Files (Android 4.3)

LS,
Last week I had a Samsung Expert @ Best Buy to upgrade my I-747 to Android 4.3. The phone is working perfect since then, even the battery drain is NOT an issue, in fact I noticed that battery last longer now. Even the good performance so far, I have 2 issues:
Each time my S3 connects to wifi, I get a notification of 2 particular files DOWNLOAD COMPLETE however these PDF files were donwloaded months ago. I clear the notification area, but when I switch from 4G to wifi or visa versa, I get the notifications back.
I'm unable to activate hotspot
Any ideas how to solve this...?
Try clearing the cache of download manager.....that usually fixes those problems.....as for the WiFi thing you may need to be rooted and use a third party hotspot app

@CrazyMonkey: Clearing the Download Manager helped solve the issue; I didn't think about that :cyclops: :good:
As for the hotspot, the stock "Tethering and portable hotspot" never worked, so I downloaded a widget from Sharp Communications (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sharp_eu.ste.wifihotspot) and hotspot worked with no problem.
Since the upgrade to 4.3, when I turn on the widget, I get the same error as the stock is giving me "Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM".
