Galaxy Nexus unable to boot to recovery. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
I have a Galaxy Nexus GSM. I rooted it and unlocked the bootloader using Galaxy Nexus toolkit a while ago, and flashed the 4.1.1 stock ROM (Build number JRO03C). Yesterday i received a notification for a system update to 4.1.2. I hit download, phone rebooted into recovery, i chose to flash the rom and everything seemed fine, however i'm still on the older version 4.1.1. Now, when i try to boot my phone into recovery (VOL_DOWN & Power Button) it shows me the boot screen and says "Downloading, please do not turn off" and i can't do anything. If I hit the power button again the phone reboots normally. Any ideas what I can do?
Sorry if I am at the wrong section.

Volume down and power is the key combo for Odin download mode. You want volume up, volume down, and power. This will take you into the bootloader. From there, you can use volume up/down to scroll to recovery and press power to load into recovery.

That used to happen to me.....I later realised that it's Coz of the update....well simply return to the previous version of the app and re-flash without the upgrade. Hope it helps u out too.

Thanks a lot! So how can I restore the Odin mode from applying the update? Reflash the ROM?

hm... tried that but it just boots the phone normally.
tried just pressing and holding "BACK" and consecutively pressing "BACK" to no avail.
Have you installed cwm from market then installed into phone.
What I mean is cwm has a 2 stage install 1 install app
2 open app and then click install on to phone.
The shut down menu will not show reboot option. you have to shut down then restart manually when you see sony logo press/spam the back button constantly until cwn loads, if this not work try using down volume button again spam/ pressing continually

make sure that CWM is installed correctly
On xperia Arc S you need to press a few times the VolumeUp and VolumeDown buttons as soon as you see the FreeXperia logo. You'll notice that the led becomes violet when you're entering into recovery mode.
got it working, guys.
downloaded Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from market and worked like a charm.
thanks for all the help.

works great
First you'll need a rooted and CWM supported kernel. Shut down the device. Press the power button and wait. When the boot logo came wait for a little vibration. Then press the Back or Volume Down button several times. There you go. You're in Clock Work Mode Recovery.

Flash old kernel from 5/2015 build, then make a factory reset, then flash new kernel.

Need stock ROM .tar file for Odin flash

Hey guys,
I managed to soft brick my device by flashing all sorts of crap today.
I am able to get into download mode and Odin recognizes the phone. I have been trying to get my hands on the stock factory ROM in Odin flashable format but haven't had any luck. All the links I have found around here are either broken or are taking so long they are timing out.
If anyone has a working link to the stock ROM that I can flash through Odin I would be very grateful.
Thanks!
Do you have stock recovery? I had same problem before lol.
I will try to seaech my old thread.

No, I was on TWRP Recovery. I flashed from CM10 to the new JB Touchwiz leak after performing a full wipe, which went fine. but then i decided to flash the nav bar mod and a theme just to see how far I could push it. Clearly the limit was hit.
Thanks for this. Flashing now.
Strange, after flashing the stock boot image in Odin (which went successfully) I cannot seem to get the phone to boot past the Samsung logo. I also can't boot into recovery (volume up + volume down + power) is not working.
Any ideas?

Boot into recovery (you're doing it wrong) and do a factory reset
Volume up + Home button + power until the screen comes on, then quickly release and you'll be in recovery. Then factory reset, you'll be good to go

If you still want stock:
Download T999UVALH2: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SGH-T999&pcode=TMB&os=1&type=1#firmware
Flash it through Odin.

[Q] Recovery mode red exclamation problem

Hi,
I just flashed my GNex to the stock yakju ROM using the link since, i wished to receive OTA updates. Everything is working properly except when i am trying to install Titanium Backup from recovery mode. When i get into recovery mode, i see the android logo with the red exclamation mark. Now, there are options available to install a stock recovery but i am uncertain that the OTA updates might stop if i install one !
Is there a way to rectify the recovery so that i can install titanium backup and restore my apps without losing OTA updates ?
Please point me to a link which explain the steps in details if possible as i have never done this before

AFAIK, The red exclamation mark is not recovery mode.
You need to press Vol button up + down + lock. Then phone will reboot into bootloader.
Choose recovery mode by pressing vol down. then press power button.

Yes, i did that. I pressed vol up + vol down + power button. I got restart bootloader option. I navigated to recovery mode using the volume buttons and selected it by pressing power button. After that i am seeing the logo with the red exclamation mark.

Ok, i understood that pressing vol up + power button takes you to the actual menu . I want to install titanium backup from the zip i have made. Can anyone tell me how it is to be done?
I see options like
a)apply update from adb
b)apply update from sd card
c)wipe cache/data partition
d)factory reset
Where exactly should i keep my .zip file in the storage ? Inside android folder so that i can use option (b) ? Is there any other way to install the zip ?
The red exclamation mark is the default recovery..................
Flash the latest copy of CWM/TWRP, Google for it, it's not hard..
If you do not have your bootloader unlocked, click on the bootloader link on my signature..
You can boot with a custom recovery without flash it. You should use this command in fastboot mode:
fastboot boot my_recovery.img
If you want flash recovery you should use:
(You will lose OTA updates)
fastboot flash my_recovery.img
Thanks for all your answers. I was able to access the menu by holding the vol up and power button simultaneously.

you can use either, but i use twrp.
when the OTA boots you into recovery, you just select the OTA file and flash it.
if you modified any other system files, it will fail and will tell you why it failed.

Thanks! Too many people have reported several issues using this method. I don't know what determines the success.

thats because those people modify system files and think they're still stock.
literally, if you just change the recovery and root your phone, you can still flash the OTAs. if you change anything else, install something that changes system files (such as busybox), you will not be able to install the OTA. it really is that simple.

Can't install OTA after flashing back to stock

flashed back to stock but the ota wont install. When the tablet boots into recovery, I get a 'no command' error. Tried the volume up and power but that reboots into the same page. I tried reflashing the stock rom and just flashing the bootloader and recovery files but no luck. I'm not looking to root or customize the tablet, just keep it stock. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
I'm having the same issue.

You're flashing an older image and trying to take an ota? Why? Just flash the latest image.

Because there is a new ota update not integrated in last published 6.0 factory image. With netflix and something else fix, sized 2.2 mb.
Got mine to install. Was able to get into stock recovery. Boot into bootloader, (reboot, hold down power and volume down buttons), select recovery. When you get to the android screen with the red triangle, hold the power button and touch the volume up button. Takes you to recovery. I wiped the cache and rebooted, then was able to take the ota.

Thanks. That worked perfectly. Ha, I have always been rooted and using twrp. That was the first time I actually used the stock recovery for something.

Help flashing MM firmware on T700

I'm having trouble flashing stock Samsung 6.0.1 firmware on my T700. I tried flashing USA (XAR) and Netherland (PHN) firmware using Odin 3.10 and 3.12. Everytime I get stuck on the SAMSUNG logo screen. While on that screen my T700 will vibrate once followed by 3 short/quick vibrations. It'll do this vibration pattern every 2-3 minutes. I waited as long as 25 minutes, but I never get past the SAMSUNG screen.
If I can't fix this, I'll just flash TWRP using ODIN and restore a backup.
Edit: Fixed the problem by flashing TWRP and wiping data and cache. Then I flashed the firmware and it worked. I though flashing stock firmware would wipe data and cache for me, but I was wrong.
thanks a lot, I had the same problem
I'm Beat?

Download mode is Power + Home + Volume Down. Try Volume Up instead. The way to remember is Volume Down for Download mode. If Volume Up doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.
