Have EVO LTE, offered free Optimus G. Should I take it? - LG Optimus G (International)

Here's the deal. I currently have an EVO 4G LTE with Sprint and I have been offered a free Optimus G with Sprint.
Here are the conditions of it. I would have to use the Optimus G for about 6 months without being able to switch back to another phone. I would also never be able to sell the Optimus G.
Should I take it?

I too have the Evo LTE and get to be the advocate for the Optimus G as I'm guessing is the same situation you are referring to, but I've never heard that you have to keep the phone on your line for 6 months, I know of other people at my store who were advocates for past phones (one the GS3 and the other the Photon Q) and they already have gone back to their original devices and haven't been charged anything for not keeping the devices active for 6 months

They work for sprint bro. Remember what Nokia did for the Att reps? Kinda like that.

I was told by someone else that the phone has to be active for 6 months on your account. After combing through the M&Ps though, I don't see anything about that.
Hmm... I think I'm just skeptical of the phone because it has the word "Optimus" in the name. Their past optimuses weren't all that. If it said "Viper" even then maybe I wouldn't be as skeptical.

Hey Tommygun I hear ya, any phone that shares part of its name with the LG Optimus S doesn't exactly shout "awesome" but I'm still excited to get it and I see myself using it for probably 6 months or so until when I'm hoping the next EVO will be released then ill drop it like a bad habit. I bet you'll enjoy it too, how could anyone not enjoy a free quad-core powerhouse

Welcome to the collective.
Dead Trigger was one of the first apps I got. Very tempted to get Need for Speed: MW.
Wallbase to look at nice pictures and test out the screen.

Why do you believe that to be the case when it's nearly identical to the Nexus 4 and the bootloader has already been unlocked?
Patience is a virtue my friend, and you do have choices. I see the progress being made with the boot loader and root, as well as an AIO tool already completed, man once these roms get rolling you'll regret not having one.
The choice is yours my friend.

I was thinking about getting the evo lte but I'm now leaning more to the optimus. Is it really that good?? I'm coming from using an evo 3d...
I really want to get it but I'm still not sure.. Thanks for the help..
As of right now my opinion is this. The phone is solid. The corners are kind of harsh. The hardware is fantastic. Surprisingly from what I have heard in the past on LG the ui is pretty good.
At the moment it has the best specs on Sprint period.
Now, when our comes to development, we will have to wait and see. It is the 4th highest selling Android oem on the 3rd largest provider. From that it is easy to say the S3 on At&t gets more attention. This will also never get the following of the Nexus. But, it does have development.
I would get it. You can also wait for the Flossy seal of approval if you like.

This phone is awesome, I've played Need for Speed Most Wanted, Dark Knight Rises,Asphalt 7, Minecraft, and Modern Combat 4, this phone flies, it gets really hot that's the only issue but that doesn't affect performance at all. Stock UI is surprisingly nice. Screen is amazing. Development hasn't been good but I have no doubt that Roms, Kernels, and Mods will come with due time.

Just bought this beast an hour ago, already rooted and transferring my stuff from my Epic 4G. I compared the LG Mach because I didn't want to give up my physical keyboard ( :crying: ) but in the end the dual-core vs. quad-core was no comparison! Plus, $99 at Best Buy was a steal (Sprint store wouldn't price match).
Like going from a Yugo to a Ferrari!
Switched from AT&T and the Motorola Atrix 4G to Sprint and the LG Optimus G and so far, I haven't regretted switching from AT&T to Sprint and from the Motorola Atrix 4G to the LG Optimus G. Can't wait for JellyBean on this phone. Decided to switch to Sprint since Sprint is the only carrier that now offers truly unlimited data.
Just nabbed the last one today @ BB for $99! Loving it so far. Was originally gonna get the Note 2 but the price won't drop. I couldn't resist this deal. Looking forward to the ROMS!
Got this phone yesterday, traded my s3 for it. Loving it so far, since I've hated the S3 as soon as I got it. Evo LTE was nice too had it for 2 months but the 1gb of RAM was killing me with Sense.
Haven't tinkered with it yet but thinking of just stock rooting just for getting rid of the Ads.

Best Price on Optimus G upgrade (anything beat Sprint/Amazon $99?)

Hey all!
I've been lurking the forums for a long time. Used some great guides a few years ago to root and mod my LG Optimus S... .which I still use today. It has served me well, but it's time for an upgrade!
I have been watching the LG Optimus G for a month or two... Sprint did their buy one get one free for $200 deal that ended March 1st... now they have $49.99 for a new contract and $99.99 for an upgrade. This matches what Amazon has been running for months. I don't have 4G in my area, and don't expect it anytime soon, so I am waiting to buy when the price drops end. I know the Optimus G Pro is going to be launch in the next few months. SO, should I expect the price to drop again when the Optimus G Pro comes out? or is $99 probably the best deal to expect for some time?
I haven't watch prices for more than a month or two, so if anyone who has seen the market ups and downs could chime in it would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
I got it for $99 from Best Buy a couple months ago and I think it's a steal at that price. The only comparable phones easily go for twice that. I doubt it'll get much better in the near future.
I'm not an expert. Just my two cents.

If it were me in your position .... I would probably wait till the Pro version launches and compare the Optimus G (which I have and love btw) against the G pro and see what kind of upgrade pricing you can get on both at that time. Anyway ... the Optimus G is a GREAT device with a lot of power and at $99 ... it's a steal!
Like the guy above me this is just my opinion on the issue. That Pro version sure looks nice but I am married to the Optimus G for 23 more months :good:

Yeah but what carrier is picking up on the G pro? The G wasn't exactly a cash cow for them.

True, ebay gives top rated sellers pretty hefty discounts. But even if I didn't have it I wouldve still turned a profit ~15 or so.
I've seen online ads saying you can get the LGOG for $49 but only as a new contract. Not an upgrade or added line. Either ATT or Sprint.

Care to elaborate? I'd love to find that kind of a deal on my contact renewal.
I got my LGOG for free. We upgraded my wife's phone through Best Buy and got the fifty dollar gift certificate. I waited to upgrade mine and they had a weekend deal for the LGOG for 49.99. Gave then gift card and had to swipe my card because it was a purchase but that was it. Even better i live in NH with no sales tax. Literally cost me nothing.
if you wanna grab a white gs3, i'll trade you my optimus g.
pm me
My fiancee and I got ours a few weeks ago on a buy one get one paying $200 for the one.
I upgraded at Best Buy back in January when they were running the "buy the phone for 99 and get a free LG stereo bluetooth" special. My girl wanted a bluetooth anyway, and I figured, why buy a bluetooth for her for 70 bucks when I can pay 30 more and get a new phone as well.

[Q] Best Buy Insurance and Rooting

So i got my Optimus G about 2 weeks ago and i love it. Upgraded from my old Evo 4g.
I decided i would go a bit and see how stock was, and it's pretty good honestly. I like some of the things LG added in, but the battery life is kinda....meh. I feel like i could definently get better battery with a different rom, but here is the problem : I am not too careful with phones. I would love to be but i always end up dropping them or something stupid to break it.
Now my question is, if i root it would it void my insurance at Best Buy? Could i just go back to stock or would they check?
It's pretty easy to revert back to full stock before you take it back if you need to.

Just make sure you read before you flash anything, I also came from an Evo 4g. I just got my LGOG on 4/1 and I rooted and unlocked mine the next day. I scared myself a bit because I soft bricked the phone, but it is so easy to restore. Honestly rooting and unlocking this phone is a lot easier than doing it on the evo once you have an understanding of what you need to do
Alright that gives me some confidence haha. I'll sit down this weekend and read up and root it. Thanks everyone.

As a former best buy employee i can tell you that best buy does not care if your phone is rooted. No where in your insurance does it say that they won't cover rooted phones. Employees won't even look at it. Box it up and send it out is the policy. I traded in my rooted evo lte running cm10 to get my optimus g and no one batted an eye.

I can vouch for this and say that I soft bricked my evo 4g lte and it just so happened that my g/f had purchased the geek squad warranty (even though I told her not to), geek squad will send your phone to be repaired and if you want a loaner phone you have to pay a 50$ deposit. I got lucky and read the receipt to find out that if you are a reward zone member you have 60 days from initial purchase to make an exchange so I was able to swap two evo 4g lte's for two lg optimus g's
Word of advice, when rooting/flashing whatever the OG, make sure you dont make the same mistake I did and type in "Sprint LG Optimus G" into the forum search cuz there are two separate boards for sprint and non sprint OG's

Yup I got it and its not that insane 3000 mah battery screen is great like my optimus and buttons on the back work great for selfies but a buttons a botton I got the T-Mobile version the sprint one is on the way I'm trading my T-Mobile one for sprint !!!!! Not trolling here in any way, cos I love LG and been a fan of LG since the G2X. I have had many LG phones...I've prolly had all of their high end phones since the G2X. (LGOG E970 & LS970, N4, LGO4XHD...) But for you to say that HTC sucks, I have to disagree... HTC One has the best s/w support (first phone other than the N4 to receive 4.3), best dev support, best build quality, but prolly not the best camera anymore now that the G2 is out...basically all I'm trying to say is that, the HTC One isn't a sucky phone as you make it out to be. Although, I might pick up the G2 as well once its out...

G2 or Nexus 5

Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Bigger screen, I like the back button design, hardware that will keep up with other phones for quite a while.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Given LG's history of releasing a new flagship device every 6 months and quickly forgetting about their previous flagship phones when it comes to software updates, Nexus 5. (It'll feel newer longer.)
The Nexus 5 is GSM and CDMA compatible; higher resale value down the line.
While the Nexus 5 has a smaller battery, the built-in wireless charging capability (also featured on the Verizon LG G2) means occasional top-ups throughout the day are easy and convenient. While the wireless charging pads don't come with the Nexus 5, the price difference between it and the G2 mean you can afford at least two (one for work and one for home).
If you're considering a mobile provider that gives you a discount for not subsidizing a phone, the Nexus 5's retail price of $349/399 (16/32GB) versus the LG G2's ~$600 can save you a lot of money over the course of your carrier's contract.
TL;DR: Unless you need the 3000mAh battery, 5.2" screen, IR blaster, or moar megapixels... I'd advise the Nexus 5.

You'd be getting a sprint variant presumably right? The LS980 dev forums could use a little pick me up, roms are being built for multiple variants in one, and while thats cool and all, it would be nice to see LS980 specific roms/kernels. Since the N5 community is over saturated to be honest, another dev wouldn't matter much on the N5 seeing as everything over there has been built or is in the process. On the G2 however a new dev would be more appreciated seeing as there only a handful comparatively speaking of devs working on the sprint variant, hope this gives you some help on your decision!

I love being able to contribute by building ROMs, but I have been super busy with life and work. I am happy with my decision to get the optimus g, but with 4.4 ROMs and most ROMs in general being glitchy it really makes me want the nexus so I can be constantly updated without many issues. I agree that the nexus won't need anymore devs, but maybe that's not a bad thing for me. I already feel bad when I don't have enough time to get something out to you guys.

Tempting. Sprint is being stupid as usual about working with me to stay a customer. I might be switching to t mobile. I heard that their data speeds are good but voice service sucks. I'd think it fitting to do exactly and only what is right for you, and no one else.
As to voice + data services, these vary by region of the country. It took 2 years where I live for Sprint to go from selling 4G LTE phones and charging for them monthly to actually delivering on it. Now, I couldn't be happier with the data and voice quality (though voice has never been an issue where I reside).
T-Mobile may be great where you live, and based on what you've stated about wanting time for you and wanting a trouble-free update experience, go with the Nexus 5 and be done with it.
I wish you luck.

I appreciate all the opinions and thoughts. I ended up going with the nexus 5 on t mobile. I did the jump program so maybe in 6 months if I have the urge to contribute more I will try something different.
