[Q] update nightly version, steps are correct?

i would like update the latest version of nightly, and i do not wanna reinstall the apps, so i prepare to flash as follows, but i can not sure it is safe or not,
1.down the latest version and copy it to the SD card
2.reboot, when the led turns blue, press V-,go to Bootmenu
3.select "install zip from sdcard", "choose zip from sdcard", then select the latest version.
some guys said "wipe cache" & "wipe dalvik cache", is that necessary? if i do not, the phone will not work or sth? anyone who can tell me? thx...
ps: i just do not wanna install all apps again and keep my google account as well as the sms and call log. what should i do?
thank you in advance.
do a wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache before and after you install the update . thats about it
As flunk03 said, wipe cache and dalvik before and after flashing the nightly. You will still have the apps installed from the previous version.
Why wipe cache and Dalvik cache before and after instalation?

thank you all
but last time, after wipe, all sms and call logs gone, and some apps also disappeared, several apps were installed in the SD card, so i have to remove them to the phone memory?
you must have selected wipe data/factory reset . so i ll just rewrite my earlier post
1.Use titanium backup to backup ur apps
2. Boot into recovery and make a backup of your existing rom
3. Wipe cache and dalvik cache before and after you flash the update
4. calibrate your battery after you install the update only if the update is stable

Looping Cyanogen logo after installing CM10.

Hello,
I have just installed CM10 on my Galaxy S3 SPH-L710. After installed the ROM and gapps, i rebooted the device and was stuck with a looping Cyanogen logo.
It's been going on for 15 - 20 minutes so far, and nothing has happened.
Any suggestions?
The ROM and gapps were picked from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778266
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Format /system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps
did you do all these steps?

Awesome!
For future reference, when flashing TW -> CM, you need to do these steps.
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Format /system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps
for flashing CM -> newer CM you should generally
3. Wipe cache (optional but nice)
4. Wipe dalvik (optional but nice)
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps (optional but nice)

Jelly Sandwich boot loop

I've got a locked boot loader on a Lt15i. I installed Jelly Sandwich and when the phone turns on it shows the sony logo, then the Jelly Sandwich logo and then the screen fades out and the phone restarts.
The only part I'm unclear of is when installing Jelly Sandwich
9. Clean cache
10. Fix permissions
9. In clock work mod I clean the cache after Jelly Sandwich finishes installing?
10. There is no option in clock work mod to do this? There IS the option in the ROM Manager app.
After rooting phone and installing CWM ,follow these steps in CWM
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. go to mounts and storage menu and\
4. format /system
5. format/data
6. format cache
7. exit mounts and storage menu
6. go to advance
7. wipe dalvik cache
8. wipe battery stats
9. exit advance
10. install Jelly sandwich from sd card without rebooting
afterwards, reboot and you're done
I don't know what or if I'm doing something wrong but it installed and it doesn't have the Play Store and it says Google services is missing. It also doesn't have Facebook even though I choosed to install it. Is this expected? I also can't install CWM because it says there's no space left on device but there is 291MB free. The same thing happened before.
What version are you trying to install? if it's 8 or above, download 7.4 and try it because it's pretty stable. See if that works

[Q] ViperX venom tweaks won´t stick - flash problems

When installing the new uppdate ViperX 3.3.0 - can I do a full wipe and install that or do I need the former versions first (3.2-3.2.4)?
I´ve had problems flashing numerous times but finally got it on the phone and then made the 2 other uppdates ota to 3.3.2 but when I´m in the venom tweaks and change the max cpu to 1300 and changes back to 1500 after a while and sometimes after reboots.
I checked the ticker "aply settings on boot". Sometimes the min cpu freq also changes by itselfes to 1300....
The "mount system r/w" ticker also never stays checked....
I´ve had problems flashing, it only worked when I didn´t do a full whipe on the 3.3.0 version.
Sometimes the flash crashed after 10-15% and sometimes when the flash was ok and finished I ended up on the white htc logo.
I did this:
1: Move the zip file to htc in my download folder.
2. using winrar, get the boot.img file - moved that to my Boot_Flash_Script folder.
3. Go to Bootloader
4. Connect htc one x to the pc - fastboot usb
5. In the Boot_Flash_Script folder - dubbelclick on the flash-boot-windows file.
The boot.img flashes ok and also the cache is cleared.
6. unplugg the htc and go into recovery.
7. Using Aroma Installer I wipe cache, wipe dalwik cache and (maybe this is wrong) wipe System.
8. Then I click Install - find the zip file and excecute that.
9. Choose the stock kernel.
10. Full wipe.
11. flashes.
Then it sometimes crashed at 10-15% or flashes ok and when i hit "Reboot" it hangs itself on the white htc logo.....
This also happened when I tried to flash Icecoldjelly…
What am I doing wrong?
Noooob-thanks,
Nothing really, but download the latest full rom and check the MD5 number, flash the boot.img again and do a full wipe in recovery....
Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/factory reset
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts & storage - format cache, data, system
Just to be sure and then install the Rom.zip. choose in the aroma for a full wipe again and continue....the question about the kernel you answered correct with NO.
the mhz option probably doesn't stick because there is only a stock kernel available, we don't have custom kernels yet ....
When wipeing and factory reset, does it erase anything on my sd-card?
It shouldn, right, since its on sdcard0...?
Even with a factory reset it shouldn't erase nothing?
Nope
Great.
Thanks!
So after flashing the boot.img, go into recovery and basicly wipe everything except external storage?!
Under "Mount" there are 4 tickers : Mount System, Mount Data, Unmount Cache, Unmount SD Card.
Unmount Cache & Unmount SD Card are checked....
What to do there?
And then just flash the Rom, Full wipe in Aroma, chose stock kernel and that should do it?!
I will quote myself ! Do NOT touch the mount stuff only touch the FORMAT stuff
And ofcourse you do NOT format sdcard !!!

Flashed the boot.img.
Wiped everything and did a factory reset then flashed the Rom and it worked.
Think the factory reset did the trick - the only thing I didn´t do before.
Thanks!!!!!!!!
Finally !!!

MIUI no sim detected

Hey everybody,
my problem is I flashed my first rom, MIUI
on One X, and my sim cannot be detected.
I tried three distibutions of MIUI 3.2.22 (chinese, uk and us),
all had the same issue.
It's not a hardware problem since I went back to stock rom and it's fine.
I already posted over ot MIUI forums, no one seems to have the same issue here or there (even on different roms)
since I searched before posting
Also, I followed the steps on the rooting tutorials and maybe I'm missing something..
Following the steps I had to gather info here and there e.g. at first I didn;t wipe data before flashing,
I saw this on a youtube vid..
I used CWM, install from zip.
Any help would be appreciated!
when coming from another rom you always need to perform a full wipe.
flashed the boot.img file with fastboot from the pc to the phone ?
in recovery do :
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
ADVANCED - wipe dalvik cache
MOUNTS & STORAGE - format cache, data, system
then install the MUI.zip file......
UPDATE: Worked perfectly!
Thanks a lot!
Cool!
will try that asap.
As I said I found only bits and bytes of such tutorials,
saw a hint somewhere about boot.img
and it's the first time i read about davlik cache, mounts and storage.
Thanks a lot!
