[Q] Wanting to buy an S3 in hawaii, wondering if it will work anywhere else - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi all, i travelling to hawaii soon, and was thinking about purchasing a galaxy s3 while i am there, will i have any problems using this phone once i return to australia, i also noticed there are many variants of the s3, is there any i should avoid, or are they all the same but with different bundled software ?
i am keen to flash this device with custom roms in the future, so bundled software is not a huge concern of mine

Its either at&t or T-Mobile versions of galaxy s3 will work in your country but remember it will be sim locked...
Edit: might vary in Hawaii not sure if T-Mobile has network there...

They definitely have network there. My brother just moved there, and there are a few members on here also.

Yes there's network here. Lol.

Wouldn't i be able to use the application 'GalaxSim Unlock' to unlock the sim, or would the S3's in hawaii likely be the Us qualcomm based GS3's ?

Why dont you just get one in Australia? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through? When you in Hawaii you just have to put a prepaid sim in it for it to work. Then when you go back home you have a phone that works well for your country without the hassle of doing something special to the phone to make it work for you. Plus you wouldn't be able to access the 4G networks of the Australian carriers with US variants.

Because they are much cheaper to buy, also, i do not consider unlocking/flashing etc to be a difficult task, i actually enjoy it, call it a pastime that i enjoy if you wish.
Also, only the 4G version of the S3 is going to work on a 4G network, so if i dont buy the 4G version, its not going to be a problem anywhere in the world

Fair enough.

What? All versions of the S3 are "4G". The one in hawaii will be Qualcomm based. If you buy an ATT one in Hawaii the LTE will not work in Australia

Quick question about using the g nexus for Tmobile and Att

Does this phone run well enough to be a daily driver on tmo with 4g while on the road even more doesit work with Att 4g lte? How do I knitter I'm getting the compatible one for my carrier which is TMobile right now, and roll be Att in the future. Where can I also get the best warranty and overall price with product quality guarantee? Is it necessary to get the western Europe version with yakja and will the be a quality difference in other versions from school the other regions?

I bought my Gnex from Expansys-usaafter reading that it was a pretty reliable place to get the yakju version. I also bought a Square Trade warranty for about $70 that includes accidental damage protection as well, just in case. I've had the phone for a couple of weeks now on T-mobile and it works perfect I travel with it daily and have yet to have a signal issue or anything like that.

The gsm version (aka not he verizon versions) will work as well as any phone. E.g. the bottlekneck will be the network, not the phone.

Hey I'm sorry, th banks for all the info and concern it is really helpful I appreciate the concern. Anybody know if the g nez is worth buying if it's going for 450 on new egg and Amazon? And will I be feeling different if I get a sakju alternative like from Japan or anything different from other parts of the world in Asia or East Europe which aren't directly supported from Google and end up changing out the radios and the firmware. Will the be a lead to a loss or success?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I think its a damn steal for $450 and I'd jump on it in a second. To me this is the best phone on the market going for such a cheap price.
Are all the gnez the same with hardware specs?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Let's say I get a different variation of sakju I should be able to turn my phone into sakju and get it working with Google like it too right?

So what is the negative difference from the Amazon version and the yakju version, and would it matter if going to root and install custom roms?
Sent from tapatalk V6 B2 from ics powered vibrant
From what I understand yakju just means it has yakju radio and firmware for ota updates from Google, what I think is when you buy a gnez that you can mode it into yakju with flashes of radio and firmware. Just a thought.

T999 -vs- I9300 International

This is not a rant nor a rave post, it's all about one's opinion regarding the difference between the International version S3 and the T-mobile S3.
I have had my S3 T999 UNLOCKED version for a while now, it's a 16gig model and after Flashing so many ROM's and whatnot, I am seriously considering getting the International version.
My decision is NOT based on the HARDWARE difference between the 2, it's based on the SOFTWARE alone.
IMHO, It's totally inconceivable to expect a device like a cellphone to be a Speed demon or have the Fastest and Latest super this or super that. I don't think anyone BOUGHT their device for that reason alone so what did we buy it for in the first place ?
1. Reliable Communication should be the #1 top reason for everyone.
2. Dependability should be #2, I would believe.
3. Utility as a personal entertainment device to pass the time when one is bored.
There are other reasons that I can't think of but it's safe to say that the T-mobile S3 is different in 1 regard, between the other GSM carriers, T-mobile has 1 different frequency, don't quote me but I think it's the 2100 .
Would any of you care to share your opinion if you had to go back and change your mind would you have gotten an UNLOCKED S3 International over the T-mobile's version, disregarding the hardware aspects of the 2 ?
P.S. Oh and BTW, Is there any end users and/or Developers that have both devices ?
Regarding the Software, I just would like to have the Essential apps that 1 needs, not all this other B$ that is dependent of the other bloated apps, I think everyone knows what am referring too, right ?
If Wild or Doc, reads this, maybe we can ask for a ROM that let's us install the apps we want on our devices via the Aroma installer, would be nice right pps ?
Yes, the T-Mobile version is different in that it lacks LTE and it adds the AWS (1700/2100) band. You never really said why you made a decision to change devices, just that you had made a decision. Personally, I am happy with the phone I have, but I am on T-Mobile, so the T999 that I have is an obvious choice. Are you on T-Mobile? If you are, think carefully before you get another version, since you probably won't get the data speeds you expect with any other GS3 version, at least not at this time.
I don't understand what are you trying to tell us, but if you going with international version make sure you get a career like Att the support hspa, otherwise you will be stuck on edge for tmobile, until they re framed their network
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Only reason to NOT get Internation version is simply as stated before of the AWS band, you going to be on EDGE with the internation version no matter where in the US you go too. So what is your reason for switching anyway?? Because your post is confusing

Around which side of town does he get those speeds?

The phone does support HSPA+ on AT&T out the box since the bands are included. The phone also has T-Mobile LTE frequency as well, but is said to be locked down by software since T-Mobile does not have LTE up and running yet. I believe T-Mobile and AT&T do use the same frequency for LTE. Only way to know if someone unlocks their device and puts in an AT&T sim.
According to AnandTech review it WILL support ATT LTE. So how does a non-Tmobile user unlock this phone??? I want to use on ATT.
From the review...
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6386/samsung-galaxy-note-2-review-t-mobile-/9
One of the most interesting things about the Galaxy Note 2 on T-Mobile is that it literally is the same hardware as the AT&T Note 2 with LTE. Sure, the model number is different, but the T-Mobile Note 2 includes support for LTE bands 17 (which AT&T uses) and 4 (AWS, which AT&T has specced devices out for and T-Mobile has confirmed it will deploy LTE on). This is to my knowledge the first T-Mobile handset with overt LTE support, and thus a solid future-proof purchase if you’re determined to have a T-Mobile handset that will work with the carrier’s upcoming LTE on AWS plans.
In addition, if you unlock the handset there’s no reason it shouldn’t work on AT&T’s LTE network that I can see. I managed to unlock the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 but not before leaving the AT&T LTE market in Dallas. It does however work as expected on WCDMA 1900 in my own market on AT&T after unlocking.
Will the Note 2 work on streight talk as well?
I'm curious if the note II would work on att's 3g network. I'm with Sprint atm but I'm constantly roaming due to poor coverage so I'm assuming it won't be long till they nix my contract and paying $100+ for limited data is just ridiculous to me so I was going to go with TMobile but they only have.edge coverage around here no 3g so I was hoping if I went with TMobile I could use AT&T towers and actually have a decently priced plan with real service.

GS3 Tmobile LTE capable?

So I was in a tmobile store today and was told that both the note II and Gs3 will receive a software patch to enable the lte radio. Asked the question like 10 different ways as I've read online that the gs3 will NOT be let cab able.
the internal phone workings are a little above my head...but i was told that the tmobile sg3 is the same as say the att model which does have the lte radio,
So, does that sound right that the SG3 is future proof and will be able to enable LTE?

Its been a while so I dont remember the details, but I am convinced that
1. We will NOTget LTE one our GS3.
2. It doesn't really matter. By the time the majority of us get LTE in our market, we will have moved on to an even better phone! Also, most of us will get hspa+42 soon which for now is more than sufficient for almost everyones needs.

I think these threads need to be shut down. There are a number of other threads exactly like this that holds the correct information. Thanks Doc
I agree with Doc, we'll probably be on better phones by the time we have decent LTE reception -- and I'm happy enough with the DC-HSPA+ modem.
IMHO, they will likely release a Galaxy S3 [4G] LTE as an interm between the S3 and the S4. WRT LTE, all I know is what I see on Wikipedia's snapdragon article. Which isn't very clear on details. Also numerous MSM8960 phones /w LTE exist but do we even know if it's on die, let along bothering to crack open an AT&T and T-Mobile GS3 for a little hardware compare?

Maybe I am the only one. LTE is not very efficient. I am happy with 3g+++.Tmo 3g super sized is a very good system. My company provided LTE hot spot sucks bandwidth like no other. Be careful what you ask for.

Lets Make it happen, Any model Galaxy3 on any network?

Ok ima try to keep it as short and simple as i can. I have a stock T-999 s3 tweaked to perfection running of Net-10 prepaid with the bring your own sim. Not only that I have it network unlocked so no matter what sim i place in weather its AT&T, t-Mobile, straight talk ect. i have service, each service i can critique to its best functions. Now heres my point. I also have a US Cellular galaxy S3 , rooted, and no matter what i do or try i cannot get this specific model to run a gsm provider via sim card. Im no wiz, but i get the idea, and my idea is to take this phone that is not supposed to operate on gsm carriers and make it operate. A recent example of success doing so was with my Droid Razr Maxx HD, i was able to successfully root the phone but as you all know verizon does not support us gsm carriers within the united states , or even on their network for that matter they block it. however after flashing a different modem, i am currently running t-mobile with great service! So any talk of "its impossible" i dont need, negitivity is not needed. i am fresh to this stuff but it fascinates me. cutting to the chase, what needs to be done to this sgs3 model #SCH-R530U to make it operate and function on a gsm carrier within the United states. Hacking Manipulating and tricking is all welcome that what were all about. Ive tried several things changing to global mode, gsm only,, faking gps positions to outside the u.s. and apn settings among countless hours beyond and im at a loss.. please im open to ideas and suggestions hopefully one day we make every model capable as nevery other
I believe the issue you are facing is because that particular S3 does not contain the necessary GSM radio chip needed to use those networks.
According to this (and its a wiki so it could be wrong):
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III
That S3 does not have any GSM bands for 2G or 3G.
However, once T-Mobile launches its 4G LTE on the AWS band, it should work...assuming the 4G network is both voice & data over LTE AWS.
The RAZR does work cause it does have the necessary 2G/3G GSM radio chip.

Simply put, the Verizon galaxy s3 is the only variant that has both CDMA and GSM bands. So if you wanted to do what you're saying, it would be most possible with the Verizon variant.
But for what you want to do, you'll need a world phone. And I believe the Verizon s3 is a world phone. Just gotta "hack" the GSM bands. Since they aren't active by default. But your T-Mobile att s3 will never work on CDMA. Also not lte will most likely not work on other carriers.

Just curious about this. There is a lot of talk about T-Mobile S3 running/not running LTE once it starts, but what about this setting on my T999?
