Google Wallet 2.0 'Coming Soon'? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I think there going to make it work with Isis. I think Google would rather make Google wallet worm with as many other systems as possible rather than fight.

No one backs wallet besides Google . Isis will kill wallet it has the backing of carriers. If Isis is on every phone and they all block wallet what does Google have to lose ?

This is probably what the "wallet 2.0" is about. http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/1/3586894/physical-google-wallet-credit-card-revealed-in-leaked-app
It looks like Google might be issuing physical cards. There is also evidence and peer-to-peer payments. Pretty cool.

Isis is still NFC so Google Wallet will already work anywhere that Isis works. The proliferation of Isis just means that (hopefully) more merchants will turn on their NFC readers which means that Wallet will work in more places.
They'll never integrate it with Isis, as Isis requires a special SIM along with the NFC enabled phone and the Google Wallet team has already said they feel the way they do it is the superior option versus tying things to the SIM.

Is there a way of getting google wallet? If so, how? I find it strange that a phone with NFC doesn't have google wallet support

Unfortunately there are lots of phones with nfc that don't have wallet support.
Carriers are making a competing solution (isis) , and Google is against rooted phones having wallet.
Put the two together and you get grid lock.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
that's rather unfortunate. I'm on sprint right now, and I have yet to see this competing solution. I don't understand why carriers hate google so much
they are responsibly for like 80% of phone sales.
I wouldn't mind so much if isis was out already. But in the mean time at least let us have google wallet...

I read in another forum here of someone who used build.prop file to make their phone appear as a galaxy nexus in order typo download the Wallet app....but I'm reluctant to do this with a locked bootloader on the Optimus G....does anyone know our this is safe as long as you back up your original file?

I would think if you have tethered clockworkmod you could always use that to edit the file with ADB.
Thought this could do with a bit of a revival given new information and my own (admittedly shallow) scratching.
Google Wallet, for those who didn't know, requires a "Secure Element" to work. The Secure Element is a piece of hardware - it's a chip on your phone which stores your google wallet card and, I think, your account details (username & password).
AT&T, VZW & T-Mobile etc (but especially VZW) have stated that Google wallet violates their terms because the software requires a hardware element (the Secure Element) to work.
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/12/1...e-wallet-says-google-needs-to-change-the-app/
In the above, they have stated that they will happily allow Google Wallet if they do away with the Secure Element requirement.
Interestingly, All the above wireless companies are banding together to create ISIS Wallet - their own alternative. The claim was that ISIS Wallet uses a special SIM instead of the Secure Element.
Fast forward to this week just gone. More details of ISIS Wallet have emerged. Namely this:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/12/19/3785538/verizon-isis-app-secure-element
Yes, ISIS Wallet seems to use the phone's Secure Element. Yet they're still stopping people from making a choice and installing Google Wallet instead.
Basically, it doesn't look like we'll be able to install Google Wallet on our phones legitimately any time soon (if at all)
so reading up on this nfc stuff i get excited to start using it. trying to find kiosks ect...then to find out if there are any i couldnt use it anyway
Well if you upgrade to Kit Kat rom you don't need this hardware (Secure element). Kit Kat should include HCE which no longer requires a secure element to use tap and pay according to this.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-wallet-updated-with-kitkat-nfc-host-card-emulation/
I'm using houstonn's KitKat rom and was able to download and setup google wallet, but can't get it to work yet. Not sure if the ROM I have is updated with HCE.

AT&T to release ISIS in spring of 2013

Just talked to rep in at&t and they told me that ISIS will be released in the spring of 2013 on select models, so I'm hoping that it will also be released for the note II.
I had google wallet working one time and the next day something came acrossed it and said that it is deleting all my cards and then did. Never got it working since.

lol.... Isis is available on the Note 2 today.
The problem is that Isis IS ONLY available in Salt Lake City and Austin. This is why I will be sending a letter to the President of AT&T. The fact that they lock us out of Google Wallet to be stuck waiting on Isis availability (and who the hell knows when that will be).
On a unrelated subject, another thing I will be writing about is the throttling of speeds while on the phone, making all data while on a call almost useless.
Ok. LOL. I should of said they are going to release it nationally.

That is quite a nice thought, but I will believe it when I see it. The launch of Isis has been pushed back numerous times.
Either way, thanks for the heads up.
I would have preferred ATT not block Google Wallet and attempt to force me to use their system ISIS. ATT gets enough of my money and using ISIS will only let them continue to stick it to free choice in the future. I have not used Google Wallet on my Nexus 7, but would like to option to choose which NFC system I use- with my money. Needless to say, ISIS will not be on my phones.

Nice. You would be surprised how many places actually take ISIS. Any place that will take Google Wallet, Paywave, ExpressPay or any other contactless payment will take ISIS. You dont have to be in Austin or SLC to get it to work.

Because there isn't much we can do about it. Its a competition and a niche one at that. Not a whole lot of stores are geared to support it, and the ones that do are tied up with either Visa or Google Wallet or Mastercard in contract garbage.
Just mod it in for now until the dust settles and a standard is made. I've been using it for months without an issue.

Then perhaps you can tell me how to get my wallet working again after switching Rom's and not resetting wallet? The dreaded "Device set up failed" screen is going to drive me to drink.....too late. The point of Milkman00 is a valid one, why do we have to do these cat and mouse games to make something work that hardware wise these phones are capable of performing? Truthfully, I don't understand why Google doesn't balls up and force the carriers to allow this app if it is indeed the carriers that are blocking it.

siraltus said:
OK, here's some technical info.
The Play Store installs two different versions of the Wallet 2.0 app, depending on whether you present yourself as an NFC-pay supported phone (via build.prop values) or not.
If you change your build.prop to be, say, the Sprint Note 2 (SPH-L900 t0ltespr) and then install Wallet from the Play Store, you will get the NFC-pay enabled version. All other phones get the "castrated" version.
Now, on Note 3, even if you do that, there a few things Sucksung/T-Mobile did in the stock ROM (completely reversible) to make NFC-pay on Wallet not work.
First, they removed the Wallet signature keys from /etc/nfcee_access.xml, so Wallet will complain it doesn't have sufficient privileges to the secure element. That's fine - you just add the keys back (get them from any AOSP ROM), and boom, Wallet has access to the secure element again.
Then, there are a few other bits and pieces of system software (libraries and kernel modules) that I'm trying to figure out that need to be in place for Wallet to work, as right now it just FCs. If not me, then someone will probably beat me to putting together a "fix" ZIP package that will re-enable Wallet on the stock ROM.
This problem, of course, will not be present on any AOSP ROM as all the required bits are included in those by default.
Also, remember Wallet 2.0 no longer includes a root, region, or carrier check, so "Wallet Patcher" plugins for XPosed or anything like that are not required.
The way to set up NFC-pay enabled Wallet 2.0 on an unsupported device (with a ROM that hasn't been carrier-castrated to disable NFC-pay):
1. Change your build.prop to masquerade as a supported device (e.g., SPH-L900 t0ltespr) and reboot.
2. Go to Play Store, install Wallet.
3. Launch Wallet and set it up as usual. Once it finishes and you see "Ready to Tap and Pay" undearneath your Wallet balance, you're good.
4. Restore your build.prop to its original values and reboot. Wallet NFC-pay will remain working.

Several Sprint devices have worked with Google Wallet. There's no surprise there because Sprint is not one of the founders of Isis. The Isis founders are AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. They all seem to block Google Wallet, probably because Wallet competes with their service. Yes, I've heard that wallet worked on the Nexus 4 on T-Mobile, but that's the only device I've heard that worked. It's possible the Nexus 4 was the exception, not the rule.
In short, I wouldn't expect Google Wallet to work on T-Mobile, except maybe with future Nexus devices.

A recent update to Google Wallet has made it usable, but limited for most of the latest Android devices. However, to use the NFC feature is only allowed on Nexus phonest.
I just purchased my Note3 yesterday from my local T-Mobile store. I have been using my Note2 for just a year, and have been using ISIS everywhere until they stopped the pre-paid function. Now, you need to either have an American Express card (not the pre-paid version) or be a Chase bank customer (which i'm not) to use the full functionality of ISIS.
Only Nexus devices and phones from Sprint have Google Wallet working with NFC. Even unbranded Sony Xperia Ion can't have NFC working with Google Wallet.

Isis Mobile wallet.

Verizon made Isis Mobile wallet available nation wide today and it supports all the newer android phones except the one. Even the dna works. Any ideas why the one was excluded and can it be hacked in at all?

Must be the Secure Element SIM card that's required. Apparently, there's not one for Verizon. Fail.

What? The if the SE is in the SIM how can there not be one?
Isis DOES (DID) work on the One. I had it working a couple months ago, totally stock.
But apparently they updated it and it took compatibility away from the One. So now it doesn't work.
Not sure why they would do that...stupid stupid stupid.

you shouldnt use ISIS out of principle.
google wallet should work, no?
How can one tell if they have an se sim? I have one that came with my One and it looks different from the one that came with my S3.

I do not believe there is a way to tell. When I ordered my s4, I asked them for the NFC Sim because the customer rep said that i would need it for my wireless charging (I wasnt going to tell him otherwise!) And it looks the same as the other sims Ive had in the past. Since having the HTC One, Ive used the sim and it looks the same as the one that technically came with the phone
Here's an image from Google.

Anyway since we have 2 methods of getting Google wallet working there is no reason to use Isis in the first place.

There's not one. Verizon doesn't provide one for the One, AFAIK.
My SIM looks a lot like the NFC SIM in the picture.

HTC One does come with NFC sim. At least mine did. (see attached picture) Plus, Isis was working for me when I first got my One, then all of a sudden it wasn't compatible. Very weird. I mean, it's not like I'm missing much, the only isis places around me are Coke machines... hah
For everyone having issues with ISIS and haven't seen already, you can now get Google wallet working with tap and pay which is a much better app anyway.

Weird...I have 4 phones on my Verizon account, 3 Galaxy S4, 1 HTC One. On two of the Galaxy phones, there's an option on my device manager page to order the NFC Secure SIM. There's no such option for the One. This seems to be consistent with what I'd read elsewhere on XDA, but if that's really a secure element SIM, then cool. I think I'll contact Verizon to see what's up.
Meanwhile, Google Wallet is working great for me. :good:

How are you getting tap to pay working? I have a SE sim card but google wallet isn't saying anything about tap to pay. Also NFC is turned on as well

Do it exactly according to the instructions. Worked for me. I've used it at Whataburger and Academy just fine.

Update:
According to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46926490&postcount=29 - there is an NFC Sim Card, and I checked mine - I have one. So...cool.
Now - why can't I use ISIS? I can't even download the app from the Play Store.

Thanks! I guess I should have searched a little before asking
Hmm...Google Wallet tap and pay works fine for me on the One. I too was told without the secure element it would never work. I guess my SIM supports the secure element as I use Wallet almost everyday. Of course, I'm not stock
So according to all the blogs, the small update the VZW One got was supposed to enable Isis support.
I updated, but Isis still says my phone is not compatible...
