I cant seem to turn off storage mode the MPT or MTP to allow the program to install clockwork recovery ...Ive tried the usb switcher app and doesnt work and I tried the extra options and still ntn Ive been searching for an answer for weeks my GF phone is still on stock F18 I would like to flash the recovery so I could flash a rom for her phone Im a newbie to a Samsung...as I own a htc ...Any help would be much appreciated

MTP has nothing to do with your problem. First start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268548
Don't just to off flashing stuff at random on this phone. Its somewhat easy to brick.

Please, please, please tell me you are not trying to do this through ROM Manager... That has bricked a ton of phones. Samsung and HTC are completely different ballgames. I have owned both, and Samsung is a LOT different than Samsung. Firstly, What rom are you trying to flash on her phone? So I can correctly give you some instruction.

Are you trying to use auto root package?
Sounds like you are because that's the only method where you need yo worry about it. For that all you need is USB debugging on and that's it. Auto root package should push it to the phone.
You need to be rooted too.
Please clarify what exactly you are running so I can suggest an easier and safe way do flash a new ROM.

what Ive done to this phone is root it via Odin to F18 havent done anything else ....I do thank you guys for your concern and advice But I would just like to know the next procedure to get a recovery on it everytime I try to get the the recovery using odin auto root it doesnt work ....it just reverts back to the stock recovery and I feel its because one of the requirements of odin is to turn storage mode off but I cant because as soon as its plugged into the computer MTP comes up and theres no choice to turn it off.

Search for mobile Odin on xda.
Install it following the directions on that thread.
Get the el26 cwm .tar file.
Flash that file using kernel slot in mobile Odin.
As soon as you see the Samsung screen after flash.. hold down power and vol up until you see cwm.
Flash any ROM you want from there on.
Remember that ff18 is ICS while el26 is gb kernel so the phone will NOT boot. So make sure you have the ROM on sdcard before following the above steps so you can flash the ROM right after flashing the recovery. El26 stock cwm by chris41g is the safest recovery.

Additionally, there are kernels for ICS that have a custom recovery that can be flashed through mobile Odin. You just have to find them first. However, the GB recoveries are the most stable (other than Odin).

[Q] Is it possible to go fully stock with out using Odin??

the tittle says it all. i want to go stock to take it back to sprint. b/c my phone is defected. my phone cant tell when its connectedto my computer.. it just keeps charging and never gives me an option to use the usb mas storage. yeah i tried changing cables, using different computers, disable usb debugging, tried different roms, tried going to recovery and mounting my storage. nothing works.. my phone works perfectly with a custom rom. however, I cant connect to my computer.. my phone is not bricked it just wont connect to my computer. so im trying to go back fuclly stock with out using ODIN.. (FORUM PLZ HELP)
Not sure why you have 2 threads about the same thing.. but anyways..
You might want to try out Mobile Odin
https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro
It's $3.99, but well worth it.. I think anyone messing with custom ROMs and rooting their phones should have this just in case.
I'd actually like a youtube tutorial on this same process. Mobile odin confuses me a bit after using pc odin for years on my vibrant.

You should have AP selected. If not switch it to AP and see if that works.

You can technically create an update script to flash via CWM and flash everything but the bootloaders...
there are some more advanced ways to flash bootloaders manually.. but I wouldn't recommend it unless you REALLY know what you're doing.. You can brick your phone, so it's not even worth it. I'm not sure they can even see the bootloader version anyhow, so it doesn't really matter.

You don't need root access to flash the kernel, since you would still be on custom recovery. So yeah flash a stock unrooted rom, then proceed to flash a stock kernel with stock recovery.

Or if for some strange reason it doesn't work in that order just flash the stock kernel first (it won't change until you reboot) then flash the stock rom without root.

So the only close enough to stock rom that i found is this one should i use this one ????? damme this is a headache http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415924
You could also use terminal emulator on the phone and run the script from sfhub thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728) to install stock EG30+stock recovery, and run unroot script straight from the phone. Then just use file explorer to delete the 000root directory.
Since your phone wont recognize the computer you can always copy the files over by using a sd card reader.
So i went to the sprint store...and i told the tech support guy that my phone was not connecting to my computer and he took a quick look at my phone and said did you rooted??? and i frozed and he continued, if you rooted your phone then thats the problem. i told him that it was more of a hardware issue not a software...he wasnt even paying attention to me.. he just said stop messing with the phones if u dont know how to how to fix them.. i was so madd i felt like throwing him my phone at his face.. but then i thought to my self.. my phone is not messed up.. it just doesnt recognize my phone.. plus i got the XDA community..

What the hell is going on with these phones??? Me + 3 others have all started a thread today with the same issue! What could be causing this???
Wow... i just even did a dial code hard reset of the phone and i'm still having the same issue --- ughhhhhh frustrating
Just take your phone into sprint with it rooted. The first thing they will do is return it to full stock to see if that solves the problem. Sprint's policy is to service all phones rooted or not. Just expect it unrooted when they hand it back.

Help Please: Phone not booting up

Strange thing happened to my phone yesterday night. I was watching netflix for a while and after some time the screen just went blank. I am not able to restart the phone. It got struck in the kernel bootup(Darkside kernel, TDJ's darkside rom) and it was restarting again and again till i remove the battery.
I am able to get into recovery mode but not able to restore any of my backup's. It just went blank during restoring system. I tried installing the same ROM(Darkside Digitsl warfare v2.5.1) from my internal SD card but it just went blank after some time. I tried the juggernaut-5 . It didnt throw up any error but when i restart it its again displaying the darkside kernel and boot looping.
Any one can you please help me to get out of this mess. I need to travel on Monday so desperately need my phone fixed before that. Please help. I have not installed anything new over the last 1 month and didnt have any problems till now. Thank you
System Details:
ROM: Darkside Digitsl warfare v2.5.1
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.7

Try it again. The phone has to be in download mode before you plug it into the computer. And are you flashing it as PDA? People have reported it taking a couple tries.
Usually if you can get into download mode you can fix it. If you're stuck and your computer won't recognize your phone, try getting back into download mode. If you're sending it in for repair anyways, it's better to have a full brick so they can't see that you rooted.
Another option if you can't get into download mode, buy a USB Jig, they are usually less than $10 and they can sometimes get you back into download mode.

So Am i good for an warranty exchange? or will samsung would be able to know i installed custom roms. In the ODIN mode it still shows custom binary mode as NO.
The strange thing is i didnt do anything on my phone for last 1 month. The only thing i could think off is, one of scheduled titanium backup ran at 3.00 AM when i was in netflix with the phone charging, and i got a msg that the backup failed. When i woke up it started boot looping. And during the ODIN i tried today, I was making sure i am doing right by following the guidelines(ODIN back to stock).
I have all my nandroid backups(different rom versions) & titanium backups, will i be able to use it in my new phone after rooting with the same recovery version?
Thank you. I really appreciat all your help.

Are you running Odin as administrator?
Manually download the device drivers from the how to root thread and install them on your computer. right click on Odin and run as administrator. Open the stock rom file in the PDA field and run it.. There is no reason it shouldn't work if you can get into download mode.
Try downloading the stock rom again, maybe it's a bad download.

I can get into the download mode and can flash it through odin as well but once the flash is successful and when it autoboots after the stock is flashed it goes back into juggernaut rom rather than going into stock rom. I dont seem to get hold of anything. I deleted all my files manually like pictures and notes and stuff but once i rebooted the phone they were all back again. I'm not exactly sure what you mean. If it's bricked then it almost definitely is a soft brick. A hard brick is when the phone does not turn on at all and I believe when plugged into the charger there are no led lights or anything. In order to get rid of the soft brick you could try to use Odin to flash a JB tar. There's a guide to do that somewhere in here. I posted one myself on a different thread not too long ago so you could search by my name to find it.

This specifically... Have you tried another USB port? Have you tried another cable?
If you can't get anything else to work, this might be an actual brick.
What were you updating?
What were you running? Recovery, ROM, Modem?

first confirm if the odin tar you are flashing has correct MD5 , i mean it got corrupt while downloading ( it happens a lot )
use a different , preferably new stock cable
use different usb port ( the com port should show up in odin window too )
if everything is fine flash the tar once more.

And if possible, try a different computer (my desktop recognizes my phone fine, but my laptop only recognizes it in Linux)

This is perfect I need someone to test to confirm this will work on this error.
Grab cf-autoroot
Flash it in Odin and let it do its auto reboot, after it will probably hang at the sgs3 splash.
Pull battery
Reboot to stock recovery
Wipe data factory reset
Wipe cache
Try reboot
If reboot passes boot animation let it sit for about 10-15minutes before pulling battery(it may boot into rom at this point)
If it hangs at the sgs3 splash screen on reboot, pull battery boot to DL mode and flash an Odin one-click full restore.
Reboot
Hopefully profit like I did.

In which stage of Odin does it get stuck?
I had an epic 4g which died that way, it just got stuck on flashing modem every time, tried everything, but it was just dead.
But I hope it's not your case
Good luck

same things goes wrong with me it doesn't go in download mode........help hoe to get into download mode
Hello alltogether,
The last 30 minutes I was near a heart attack, I really thought my S3 would be 90% dead.
NO recovery - The "encounter an issue...." warning - Only ODIN
But everytime I tried to flash anything (stock ROM or Recovery or whatever) it just stopped after a few seconds and ODIN freezed I had to pull the USB cable to do something new. I even let it without battery for a few minutes - nothing changed.
I was really dissapointed and I searched the Internet - after all I found the hint to try antother USB port and another cable.
I used a thin old cable and the front usb, not the back usb port.
So now ODIN, the original cable and the back USB port - I really didn't think it would make a difference! I tried to flash CF-Root with CWM and...
TATAAAAA! IT WORKED.
Man I am happy.
There's nothing more worse than not coming into recovery mode and odin not working!
BTW: Why it came how it came: I had (and still have) Omega 4.2.1 and Philz Touch Recovery, but I had problems with the root access to the system. I wanted to flash CF-CWM Root - That's all, this brought me in big trouble.
I never had these problems with the CF Root, I don't know why, but I do not really trust this Philz Touch Recovery, maybe I am hyper sensible now - I do not know.
I am happy, my phone is happy - everything is fine.
