Loose mini USB port - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I just noticed my mini USB port is fairly loose that when the usb cable is angled at a particular direction charging stops.
I tried the same cable at two other phones and no problem. I visually inspected the port and it seems the metal that surround and supports the mini usb broke at the side making the top and bottom part separate from each other. It makes the port not a snug fit but a losse fit... And so I wonder if anyone else had this issue? I've only had my S3 for a few months and I use it roughly the same as my old phones (yes, I do use it while charging) and they didn't have this problem... Is it really that easy to break or do I seem to be mistreating it?
Note: The small pointy thing is ok, so I can still charge and do other stuff. Only issue is that it's a loose fit.

I was just dealing with this last night. It may be a little flimsy. Hopefully it doesn't get worse

I know... If it gets worse, I hope I don't get caught somewhere having unable to flash a stock rom via odin... To claim a clean warranty... Afterall, the damage is on the hardware and can be seen outside

Is it the original cable? I know my charger cable is stupid loose but my USB cable is fine.

If it is actually damaged, why not get a replacement now?

I'll have to check with Wireless Wave where I bought the phone... Because it's either they send it for repair which would take weeks and they'd give me a crappy temporary phone... Or if I'm lucky replace it on the spot... Which I doubt... So I'll have to weigh in the options... It's not much of an issue right now but pretty sure it will be soon enough so I have to ask them soon... I'm just doing some poking around to see if other people experience this as well if it's a fairly "common" issue then they might give me a replacement if I tell them fixing wouldn't help because it may just happen again.

[Q] Problems with the Samsung OEM data/charge cable

Any micro USB cables that you guys would recommend over the OEM original cable.
I seem to be one of the very few that have problems with the original cable fitting snuggly. Yes, the door is open all the way til it clicks, yet the cable easily falls out.
If anyone has a suggestion of another cable or has the same problem with a fix that I just somehow missed after searching for a couple of days, it would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem. After about a month of use it just came completely loose and would only stay in if I propped it up a certain way. I tried a friend's charger and it worked fine (likewise my charger was loose on his captivate).
I just took the usb cable from my external hard drive and that one fits very snuggly, unfortunately it is also much shorter
I'm also having this issue. I wonder why...

Yes, this is exactly what I have to do for mine to charge. So I guess I'll have to just start looking for one that will work for me. It seems just any other standard micro USB cable will do the trick. Thanks a lot my friend.

Well upon further inspection, you can see how the top of the phone is curved and if you look at with the USB door open from the top and tilted slightly back you can see how the jack actually looks crooked inside the phone. I'm quite sure that this is because of the curved top parallel to the circuit board that has the jack is too tall. And I think for some reason I might need to trim down the micro end a bit on the front side..it looks like its hitting the front side of the phone.
I'm looking for a replacement cable as well...even OEM is fine. The case around mine cracked off one night when I feel asleep playing on my phone. Mine was always kind of loose compared to the att charging cable which is nice and tight. Does radio shack carry cables like this?

i called AT&T about this with my cappy and they said that the charging port was bad and sent me a new phone , thats been 3 mo ago and the problem hasnt recurred.
(just a thought)
Search Amazon for "blackberry usb cable micro usb". The first result should be it, it's a very high quality, shielded cable. To get a solid, snug fit I suggest a razor or a knife to easily cut back some of the rubber around the micro tip. Works amazingly well. I could even make it work before I trimmed it.
just to elaborate, the specific micro end is called a "micro b " usb connection.
not to be confused with mini or micro a
of course the other end is just standard.
The place I work has a 5' nice quality cable that fits my Captivate tight. They got them to go with the 2100mA USB Car Charger we sell. Cost on the cable is $ 4.99 plus shipping (about $2.99 first class parcel).

I'm not sure if its quality, or just chance, but I've found that only some 3rd-party cables will work. I've tried a blackberry one that didn't work, and a really cheap one that did.
I would suggest keeping the one you got from samsung, just in case.
I'd like to know if anyone else had issues with cables not working?
I got a Samsung cable designed for the galaxy S on Amazon for like $6 with free shipping.

I had the same problem.
I used some tools(hammer, knife, etc) to fix the cable.
Now my cable works fine!!

I just used a razor blade to trim the rubber back, works great.
If you look at your cable. The black part and the silver part(part that goes in your phone) is not in a straight line.
Just try to make it straight. And use a knife to cut the rubber of the edge a little bit.
That should do the trick.

I haven't read all of the posts so I don't know if someone has already posted a solution to this problem, so I'll just answer.
I had this same problem. If you notice their are two tiny metal teeth that lock the charger into the phone. These teeth no longer stick out as far as they used to. That is why you are having this problem. The teeth are not bent. It is the micro usb plug that is around it. All that you need to do is give it a firm bush on the table. Bend the plug away from the teeth so that they stick out more. This fixed my problem.
When you put it back into your phone, you will notice that the plug is no longer in the phone at an angle.

You should saved me from buying 3 more cables. I distroyed my OEM cable to make a jig because I bricked my phone. I ordered 3 sets of cables and they all had the same problem.... Usb kept popping off. So I was just about to go out and order 3 more sets if cables, this time OEM untill I decided to read this tread. It never occured to me that it was fitting in well because of the extra rubber on the connector. I trimmed it down and now the cable snapped in perfectly like it was supposed to. Thanks for the fix!

I'm afraid of buying the wrong cable off Amazon. There is so much out there. Can anyone post a link?

I know this is getting old, but it took me about 2 hours to find an answer that WASN'T recommending to just make sure the slider was all the way open. For no reason at all, my phone cable just wouldn't hold a real connection this morning... your answer saved the day
For cables that are good quality and cheap, go to www.meritline.com ....... I have never gotten a bad cable from them, typically I use their HDMI cables but the USB cables are less complex and work just as well. My last usb cable was one of theirs.

[Q] micro USB port not always charging (loose)

Does any one have a same problem with their USB port being "too big" and cable being loose and not charging? This even happens to me with original cable ....

I am having the same problem with my Gnex.
Got no problem at all. Fits very good, charging correctly and I can even hold my Gnex in the air just by holding it at the cable (without fear, that it will drop ).
I'm having the same problem. I took it to the Sprint store and took it for 2 hours. When I came back they said the battery is fine and they cleaned out the charging port. He also said they won't replace it because it's rooted. I played dumb was like "Root? What does that mean" When the guy asked if someone did something to my phone I said my boyfriend did something but I didn't know what. I asked it it can be unrooted and he said maybe. Whatever. I'm unrooting it tonight and taking it back to get a new replacement since I'm still having issues with the port. When I get a new one I'm going to sit in Starbucks next door to root it. My boyfriend couldn't root himself out of a paper bag.

Hahah, what a girl! ^^
BTW, I have no problems at all with my GNEX, but I think the microUSB port is too easy to break. After two years my old phone can not be charged anymore, because the microUSB port does not keep as the connector inside. I have to find a good position every time!
Make this

Mine is okay for now, but I do worry about it because it feels kinda fragile. That's why I'm getting the official dock. It's expensive, but the fact that it uses pogo pins means I can save using the USB port for more important things.

USB Port Pushed In, What Can I Do?

I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus I bought used (so no warranty), and somehow the USB port got pushed in. This makes it hard to charge since the cables don't really make contact anymore. I can still charge it but I have to plug the cable in like 6 times until it finally makes contact to charge. So my question is, what can I do? Since its used I don't think it has any kind of warranty so I guess that's out of the question. If I opened up the phone to expose the motherboard, could I re-position the USB port to its correct position? What would you do if you were in my situation?

Here's a link showing how to repair it. It's for VZW gnex but should be similar.
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairi...zon-LTE-Micro-USB-Charge-Port-Main-Mic/9641/1
I would just get a spare battery and external charger and swap the batteries every morning. Im not too much of a soldering kind of guy so if you are, then best of luck opening it up and seeing what the problem is. You can also take it to a local repair shop or mail it into an online repair store and dont think the cost will be more than 40-50 dollars. But good luck and hope it doesnt get anymore damaged.

USB that came with phone hardly fits?

I got this phone 2 days ago, and I have noticed that the USB that came with it, has something like 2 little teeth at the bottom (I guess they are made to hold in the USB better)... But I kind of have to force the USB to come in, and I am afraid that I will damage the port. So is this USB safe to use and can it damage the port? Should I get an USB from another phone?

its fine. it's just new and needs to be broken in some. I would make an analogy to something else, but don't think it would be appropriate on xda

Its fine, 2 little teeth on the flat part, good usb cables will require some effort and may make a click sound.
My 3rd party usb have smaller teeth which makes the connection flimsy and insecure which is worse over time as it can bend the connection in the phone.
you shouldn't worry, you could use a Qi charger, what's worse is dust and lint blocking up the port being in your pocket which requires a clean
The cable will ware out before the port on your phone does. That's why it was designed that way, I believe.
I believe this wont damage your device

OnePlus 7T Charger Cable

Hi, so Ive had my 7T for about 4 months and now it will not connect to my pc or Warp charge with the supplied cable that came with the phone. Mind you, Ive been babying this phone, but I was wondering if anyone else have had this problem and how did you go by getting a replacement.
Thanks in advance

That's unfortunate. Isn't there any way to get it replaced by OnePlus itself? Since it is only a few months? Sorry I'm not sure about the customer service of them but what about try contacting them once?

It happens to me all the time with every single device I've ever owned but interestingly enough hasn't happened with this device. Now it will since I said that and believe I'm gonna come back in here and blame you! Lol.
But all seriousness I don't know the cause. I have found that using a trimmed down qtip of some sort with a dab or rubbing alcohol to clean out the charge port on the phone and in the USB cable that plugs into the device. A lot of times you get pocket lint inside the ports without even knowing it.
If that doesn't work it is more then likely to do with one of the small pins on the USB C side that plugs into the device it maybe misaligned or even snapped off. And it will be a tiny piece!
Anyway hope I helped if not then time to buy a new one. Been there I know the feeling.
Take care brother

Yea I contacted Tmo, they said contact OnePlus. I contacted Oneplus they said call Tmo. So its the run around game now. Its some bull and the offical cord from OnePlus is $20 so I just may have to buy another one. Im going to put some heat shrink on both ends where the cord meets the connectors. Hopefully that keeps it from shorting out there again.

Yea I figured it out, the part where the cord connects to the usb-c plug, its a short right there, if i twist the cord the Warp charge comes on. So Im going to buy another cord and just apply a couple layers of heat shrink to stiffen that part up more.
Thanks for the advice
