Note II US version has better camera ?! - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Interesting, but according to GSMArena the US version of Samsung Galaxy Note II has better camera. This can be seen by photos and video sample. This is clearly true, but why is that?
Is this caused by different camera module or it is just the software? I'm in Europe but if the camera is different I will buy the US version. :crying:

All N2s have the S3's camera /thread

The sgs3 had two different camera modules (sony or Samsung) that offered different quality. It depends on the particular batch AFAIK.
So the N2 their reviewed may have the better sensor but that's no guarantee the other phones (same model/provider) will have it too

As far as I can see, GSMArena seem to say that the Note 2 is better than Note 1, rather than the US version of N2 has a better camera than international N2.

+1 on that..could OP show which statement by gsmarena saying US version camera better than international??

The Samsung Galaxy Note II camera quality is better than that of the original Note and nearly identical to that of the Galaxy S III camera though processing seems a bit different. The noise levels are kept down and the level of fine detail is high. Colors look good though they are slightly oversaturated across the board (the S III mostly pushes the green channel).

Untouched photos from N2
Hey all,
Just wanted to share some untouched photos from my N2. The B/W is actually not black and white because I took it with the Green Point filter in Camera app. The pebbles were grey and black so it turned out like a B/W. From what I can see on my PC monitor, the camera does a very good job in retaining details, accurate colors compared with what I saw with my own eyes, decent depth of field and colors were not over saturated.

Thank you, obviously I was too sleepy when I was reading so I thought something else! :cyclops:
I was shocked by the good exposure photos, because SGS3 was producing too overexposed photos.

Have we gotten any kind of camera test shots yet?

Still looking for some comparison photos of the NG camera. The 5 MP camera is a bit offputting, but for years the iPhone camera was running at less MP and always seemed to have a better sensor and produce better pictures, i'm hoping that's the case right now. The camera and the size are really my two biggest concerns with the device right now.....

Something like that for example?
Test Pictures
They were made with a sample after the release show. Don't know if they are equal to the final product or not.
Engadget and Thisismynext did test shots between GN and the iPhone4S.
Not gonna be a lot of in-depth tests until review units go out.
The post about how megapixels don't mean crap in terms of picture quality needs to be made a sticky on this forum. I'm tired of it coming up. Take a Nikon dedicated camera that taps out at 5MP and compare it to a phone at 8MP and see which looks better.
If you have Google+ account, find Tim Bray and follow him.
He is one of the Android developer.
And he is testing the GN camera right now during his trip, posted in his Google+.
I saw the photos are amazing!

You're right the nonshaky ones look good. I'm not stunned but I would say it's really solid work for a phone camera.
I'm not impressed. The night shot looked sharp for a night photo but the rest... no visible improvement compared to my Galaxy S. So much for sacrificing MP for quality.

+1 I'm actually excited to see what this camera can do. The 5 MP cam on this phone will probably blow the mytouch4g slides 8 MP away. Bottom line, galaxy nexus Is going to be one badass phone. Period.

Not sure what you're seeing. None of those pictures are any better than what my Fascinate takes. They should have went ahead and used the GSII camera. Seems much better than this one.

The camera worse than S3 ?

I've noticed that some people complain about the poor quality of Note 2 photos.
http://www.iphones.ru/iNotes/253676
Is it true that camera worse than the Galaxy S3?
On an iPhone website, they won't tell you otherwise. Try a more objective source, like gsmarena and the likes...

The Note II takes pretty amazing photos IMO.
Check this album out! http://www.flickr.com/photos/magnus3dphoto/8060042512/in/photostream/
does anybody know if samsung again used different cam modules in production?
at least with sgs2 there were 3 different manufacturers (and thus different firmwares), guess it would be the same here!
what i've seen so far is that the pink blob in the middle of the picture is almost gone, which is a huge improvement! don't
know if they fixed it with the firmware or hardware though...
update:
the second note2 i recieved today has a slightly pink blob, so what i can say the quality of the cams seem to differ in a same
way then the screens. one screen of my 2 units has yellow tint, the second one not!
I don't now but I didn't have pink spot in the middle of the camera any more with GN2.

It is just an example. And here S3 in better than iphone 5 and Note 2.
Oh God, why? iPhone website? Kidding right? The camera is just amazing!
I wouldn't say that the camera is amazing...but it's pretty good.
I confirm that the camera is worse than SIII. I had both phones and SIII dominates in terms of picture quality. Although Note 2 has better exposition handling than SIII.
Well can't say about S3 but I had S2 and I might sound weird but the camera on Note 2 is poorer, overall.
One would really need to be a fanboy to call this camera amazing or have no idea about the word amazing.

Recently read a review (Anandtech maybe?) that included a comparison of Note II vs S III picture quality. They did blind judging (no, the judges wern't blind, lol) of photos and videos taken by both phones. They were indistinguishable to the reviewers.
I can definitely say the camera isn't too impressive with pictures. Although it's amazing with video.

I have only iPhone4 so i can only compare with it. For the picture quality, iPhone4 still better than Note 2 imo. But iPhone4 doesn't have so many setting options like Note 2 has.
Hello,
Before i bought this phone was using Xperia S. Right now i can see well the value of my ex Xperia S. Because with its 12 MP camera that was possible to capture amazing photos without no blurry and noisy.
I have to confess that Note 2 does not have a good camera. I do not know about S3 but i know it is worse and worser than Xperia..
Me coming from a photon, evo 3d and many other phones and have used an s3, the camera quality is no different between the s3 and the note 2 as they use the same cameras, maybe you guys aren't use to seeing a picture this blown up on a screen like the note, and that's why you claim it's bad?

No, at least I don't give a damn how it looks on the phone. I transfer the files as soon as I can to my PC and see it there. The Note 2 camera is a below average camera.

Most reviews give the N2 the better pic quality over the S3...I have both so I took a few pics on both under same settings, both outdoor and indoor, and to my eye I see no difference in either one, both look great. I though they both had the same hardware camera wise anyway?
Post your camera fw, mine is ZKFI07, so it says about different camera modules.

[Q] Color Control for Note 2?

Hi,
I would like to know if it will be possible to implement Color Control (as used in many Galaxy Nexus custom kernels) in custom kernel for Galaxy Note 2?
Here's a link (it worked wonders on my old Galaxy Nexus!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521195
My Note 2 has a heavy green/yellowish tinted screen. The problem is much more pronounced than on my old Galaxy S3, which actually was quite bad, too...
Otherwise I have to return my Galaxy Note 2
This is a comparison between my calibrated LCD and my Note 2:

I got my replacement today. Still the same problem (at leaster better build quality). I've compared mine to other Galaxy Note 2, every single device I have seen had the same issue. So I guess there are many GN2 with that issue out there.

Do you have power saving mode on? There is a screen setting in the power save menu that tints the browser. Also try to use the "dynamic" screen setting instead of natural or the others. That fixed my tint.

One thing you are not seeing is that a screenshot can never represent a displays color reproduction. As you are eliminating the actual display and only looking at the image as it was rendered in the software. All screenshots from all devices will appear the same, however photos of the actual rendered image on screen will show variations. Using a calibrated display as a reference is the only way to have a solid comparison, just like the OP did. If you want to contribute, do the same.

GNex won the TIPA award.

Not sure if this has been posted, but our Galaxy Nexus sits on the same pantheon as the acclaimed Leica M9, Canon 1dx, 5d3 and Nikon d800 cameras.

For those non photography types, TIPA is a some sort of independent association form by various press entities to award great photographic products.

Very nice pics. I personally don't have an opinion, my eyes are not the best, and I've never had a good eye for capturing photography myself. I just use the camera casually and it works fine for me. What I meant was the general consensus on the camera is that it is poor, that is what the websites and reviews and even users all complain about. It may just be a common misconception, but it's widely the accepted view, accurate or not.
Not better than my SGN. I am still pleased i didnt go for gnex and opted a note last year.

TIPA didn't evaluate image quality only, but the whole pack of good screen, zero-lag shutter, 1080p recording and some other goodies.
TIPA meeting was on 24th March 2012, so it's understandable why they choose Galaxy Nexus.
All I can say about the camera is, its the only camera that can take colour accurate images of my coral reef aquarium. I've tried several cameras and other phones and its way off. Mind you I've learned the best settings for that application is simply changing it to cloudy.

Note 3 Neo camera performance

As for Note 3 Neo camera performance, I wonder if it Is already better than Note 2 camera?
Can Note 3 Neo camera compare with Note 3 camera ?
8MP of Note 3 Neo may look fewer than Note 3's, but camera quality also depends on other factors, such as camera brand, camera firmware, and.. by user's feel by eyes.
I own an S3 so hope that Note 3 Neo at least has a camera better than S3's.
almost the same.for me owning before an s3,the s3 has a little more sharpness.

I can't say about note 3, but my mom has S4 (and S4 & Note 3 have the same camera) and I have taken innumerable pics with it.. I can tell u that the camera on the N3 Neo is as good, only that S4 is a lil sharper when zooming in.. the camera S/W on the Neo is really good.. especially the digital stabilisation really helps with night & indoor shots!
Try using Google Camera
Hi...I owned Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4 mini in the past. They all had similar 8Mpx camera. Now I own Galaxy Note 3 Neo and my feelings are, that present device has in overall the best sharpness in the centre and corners of the photos. Sure, S4 and Note 3 have little bit better cameras because of 13Mpx and good optics (more detailed photos, better for cropping), but Note 3 Neo is great runner-up and has really good digital image stabilization. :good:
Have captured a few low light shots using Digital stabilization (initially i was confused with terminology thinking its like OIS) and have got excellent results. Would definitely recommend camera over S3/Note 2

Yeah That's because i took camera too close as this doesn't have macro focus for some odd reason.
Some of obvious features are missing in it.
