What method did you use? Mind posting a link to the thread?

I had very easy method to flash which i did try by myself and work perfect with T889:
1. download cwm6-recovery-n7100-121014.tar :https://hotfile.com/dl/176065007/332...21014.tar.html
2.download CWM SUPERSU installable ZIP:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1538053 ( copy this file into your EXcard )
3.Download PC Odin : http://d-h.st/6Er
4.1.Open Odin and select PDA tab
2.Point to extracted file cwm6-recovery-n7100-121014.tar
3.Now switch off device and reboot in download modeby:
press Vol down + Home +Power, And then, press Volume UP button in Warning Page to enter the Download Mode
4.Connect device to PC and wait till device successfully added to com port (it will turn light blue)
5.Hit ‘Start’ to flash
6.Once it flashed successfully, you can see 'PASS' in table above the ID :COM, you can disconnect device from PC
7.Now reboot into CWM by :Switch off device and press Vol Up + Home +Power hold about 5 second
8.Install SuperSu.
9.Reboot.Done
Take about 5 min to do.Special thank to Dr.Ketan , Chainfire , Chenlu..

this the method I used. follow instructions to install the drivers properly.
then chose the build that's on your phone, mine was ALJ1 (which is option 2)
then Option 2 (rooting options)
then Option 4 (flash cwm touch etc any build)
then Option 1 (superuser)
that worked for me flawlessly. but I changed my DPI to something smaller than the 320 after I rooted and touchwiz doesn't work with smaller dpi so if anyone wants to change their dpi make sure to change ur launcher first.

Fantastic! I got the phone yesterday also and was going to try it out on stock. I almost killed myself. Thanks for letting the rest of us know its rooted. Time to unleash its real potential.

This method did work for me, however i DID lose my imei/service yesterday and had to flash the quickfix . Everything is good now though.

wait let me get this straight. you used those same exact options and lost your IMEI?

I moved the thread for you into the General board.
Posting this in the Development forum is definitely the wrong place.
In future please watch where you post.
Thank you.

Yeah, i specifically avoided anything else because I saw people had issues doing 2,3 or others. So specifically followed 2,4,1 last night. Like I said though, everything is good now after the quick tar fix that was uploaded earlier in a separate thread

Followed this method:
http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method/
The other one wasn't working for me, might be a driver issue.
Got Root!!
Removed Bloatware!!
Installed Rom Toolbox!!
????
Profit!

you should not lose IMEI unless you flash the boot.img....if you do i have created a thread that has the boot.img in tar format for you to flash in odin and resolve the issue...DO NOT FLASH ROMS!!! If you do, your firmware will be changed to N7100 and you will probably have to wait for a full odin image to get your phone to work again...

Edit: I remove the root file,. But I will share my rooted images.
Rooted Image Download(five partitiones, boot.img, firmware.img, baseband.img, recovery.img and system.img)
Just only a few steps, If my guidiance help you out, Please hit thanks button
1. If you are using a rooted firmware(any one can do) , you can jump to step 2. Or, install v18f(leaked 4.0.3 ics) and root it with TPSparkyRoot tool.
2.Press and hold power and volume- button, enter LG's recovery, press power button twice to process a factory reset. reboot, then enable usb debug, connect your PC and P930 with usb cable, download attachement file(all-purpose-ROOT.rar ). Extract it and run before.bat file.
3. Flash V20c_00.kdz. you can follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488 guide to finish this step.
4. After V20c installed, you phone will reboot and stuck in at&t's logo, but don't worried, run after-KDZ-flashed.bat(need usb connected to pc of course) . You can see informations of rooting success Awared: do not process factory reset until you run after-KDZ-flashed.bat! It is very important!
5. Factory reset again then you will get a rooted V20c, Enjoy it.
Basically, this script can help you jump from any rooted firmware to any other one and root it! that is why I suggest to install v18f, because it is easy to flash and root.

How do we run this from CM10 with CWM? You said any rooted FW would do. Should I Factory reset inside CWM and reboot? Then follow the steps?
I almost want to try it... however I would prefer if the instructions were a bit clearer. When flashing anything to my phone I want to be completely clear that I am doing the right steps. Maybe I am just stupid and don't understand. lol

same question !
i am also running cm10 !
so can we factory reset from cwm ?
I'm not seeing how this will work... Why do I have to go to v18f? When we install v20c, the nature of the process is wiping the phone first. You can't not do that.
Also, if the phone is stuck in the AT&T logo, adb is not available.
I looked at the script and it is the same as the one in my signature only split into 2 files.
I will wait for the OP to upload a pre-rooted rom.

Phone Not booting after build.prop changed

I have Samsung Galaxy s3 ATT rooted - clockworld mod v-6.0.1.2. I was trying to install google wallet.
One of instructions was to change the following in the build.prop file.
ro.product.model=htc_jewel
ro.product.name=htc_jewel
ro.product.device=htc_jewel
I changed it. Installed custome google wallet. Reboot my phone and it gets stuck in the samsung logo, and then the screen blanks out.
What do I do?
Thanks

Thanks I did try it. I am getting another issue. When I try the "adb shell" command as pointed by thread above - it throws a error - device not found. I have installed my drivers multiple times - but does not seem to be helping. when I connect the phone to the laptop - it is in clockworld recovery mode with the initial set of options.
That sounds all correct. Go back into the SDK manager and under extras there are a few drivers. Check and install those. Try it again.
If that doesn't work, I'll send you the necessary drivers as soon as I get a chance.

I was able to flash my SG3 with stock ROM using ODIN in download mode. So back in shape. Thanks for everybodies suggestion on this.
As a bonus, AT&T had a RMA and were ready to exchange it for a new phone, which I am declining now.
Ah, I'm sorry to hear that you had to use ODIN and wipe all your data. I solved your driver problem. I apologize about the length of time it took. If you ever need to fix the build.prop again, I've updated my OP to include the driver section. Happy modding!

got a major problem
Hi guys I have yet another crazy issue I am faced with
My Samsung galaxy tab p3110 model has just got the black screen of death after having replaced build.Prop file however I did create a backup of the build. Prop file only its inside the root folder of the tablet at stake. I only seem to have access to Odin mode and I need a way of moving the original built.Prop file back in its place. Does anyone here have any ideas of how I may go about doing this without risking screwing up my tablet further
Any help is greatly appreciated

You're in the i747/i747m Galaxy S3 forum, so use anything you find here with care. You might want to consult the Galaxy Tab forum for more device specific advice; however, fixing a build.prop brick should be a pretty generic procedure for an android device.
Here is a guide for fixing build.prop errors using adb. You'll probably have to track down different drivers than the ones linked to that thread for your device unless they happen to be generic Samsung drivers. Here's a minimal adb installer so you don't have to mess with the whole Android SDK, just to use one tiny tool
If you have a custom recovery or wouldn't mind using Odin to install one (again, consult your device's forum for specific issues - this may or may not be safe depending on your bootloader), you could just use the file tools built into TWRP or Aroma file manager to replace your modified build.prop with your backup. Be sure to set permissions to 644 after moving the file or you might still be bricked. This might be easier than getting adb working or it might not, depends on your comfort level with Odin and how tricky your device is to mod safely. I see custom ROMs in the Galaxy Tab forum, so it definitely can be done.
Slightly confused
Thanks for your quick response
However I am still a bit confused. Does flashing TWRP recovery through odin mean that all the data and apps currently installed on the tablet will be wiped

Your data and apps will not be affected by flashing TWRP; that Odin package will just be a recovery, not a full firmware update like they are a lot of the time. It will just replace your stock recovery with a custom recovery that has more functionality.
TWRP basically gives you a mini operating system on your phone for creating backups or flashing ROMs. TWRP also has some file tools in its Advanced tab you could use to copy your build.prop backup to /system and set the permissions, so you should be able to use it to fix your soft brick. It is independent of your ROM, so it will unaffected by your main system's build.prop error. There should be a hardware key combo you hold with the tablet off to boot into recovery. A lot of the time its vol up + power (i747 has a physical home button and recovery boot is vol up + home + power).
Thanks

BTW is there a default recovery partition that your supposed to be able to access because when I press and hold "power + volume up" the tab just restarts and shows the Samsung logo over and over again. Also I could swear that I did install TWRP at the time when I rooted but there is no sign of it.

I followed them to the letter and was rooted in 1 minute.
See if there is something you are skipping, make sure you have the latest PC drivers
Your not rooted. Reroot using odin 3.0.9 you might need to reinstall stock rom. If you read skynote thread your answer is there as well as download links... your welcome
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I re-ran odin and I am now rooted, my phone wasn't in debug mode... and the instructions didn't say that but I tried it and it worked.
Now my problem is when I try to start my phone in recovery mode the galaxy note logo flickers up and down the screen and the phone completely goes dead and i have to take out the battery to get it to start again. I have followed both sets of instructions to a T for clock work mod recovery and it hasn't worked.
And on the clock work mod recovery instructions, now when I click to download it it says failed download error...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34039100#post34039100
I re-installed clock work mod recov 4 times and still when I try to start in recovery mode the screen flickers n theres lines across the screen n then the phone goes dead and I have to pull the battery to restart.

Try it with TWRP
http://tinyw.in/16LP
I installed that but it is an image file and odin will not open an image file?
Is it the same instructions to run this as it is to run cwm?
It says it needs to converted to a .tar file. How do I do that?

The link I provided is for the tar file. If you downloaded it do not extract it.
Look here, end of the page

Maybe this doesn't apply to you, or maybe it's too late, but some flavors of Samsung Android 4.x have a file to restore stock recovery at boot.
With the phone rooted and a root capable file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer look in the /etc directory. If there is a file in there called install-recovery.sh rename it and then try re installing cwm or twrp.

I clicked on the link and then went to end of the page to download for Odin, but when you click on that link there are a million different files, I just want to make sure I am clicking on the right one. Dont want to brick my phone. Is there a difference between all of the different files?
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar.EjYLF6
is that the correct file?
Ok so I got TWRP installed.
Next question, I have been out of the loop for a few years so how do I get the latest firmware? Right now I have Android Version 4.1.2 and baseband version I317UCAMH3.
Is that the latest for the galaxy note 2? I have att and its the SGH I317
I didnt even plan to f with my phone but the other day my phone glitched and erased 300 pictures and videos from my newborn daughter that I just had and I was so upset and trying to find a way to recover them, someone told me to root my phone and try disk digger... so far I have had no luck at all with recovering anything... totally sucks and I am soooo upset!

4.1.2 is the latest OFFICIAL AT&T build. There is an unofficial leak in the Android Development section, but I honestly don't know how it performs as I only run AOSP roms.

Just follow the method suggested by Raizen above. But there are two things I want to add:-
1. The drivers work successfully on windows 8 and 10. It's just that you have to turn off driver signature verification for a while. So don't worry if you have w8 or 10.
2. After flashing kitkat you will get a notification to update to Marshmallow and not lollipop.
P.s.- My opinion on Marshmallow- Everything's fine except the battery backup. I don't know if the issue has been resolved now. But I faced more than 30% drain overnight with location and WiFi off. I'm on CyanogenMod 12.1 now and I find it much better both in terms of battery backup and functionality.
Thanks guys. I will try it and let you know.

[GUIDE] How To Update To Nougat, Install TWRP and Root

Nougat TAR File Now Available!
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767156558
Things You Need To Know First
There are two variations on the 3-button method (also known as the "three-finger salute."
Volume Down + Home Button + Power puts you into Download mode.
Volume Up + Home Button + Power puts you into Recovery mode.
You will need Odin, which is here. With your phone in Download mode, Odin allows you flash firmware files (also called TAR files) and Recovery images. Odin is available from here: http://www.samsungodindownload.com/ Any version that starts with 3.10 (like 3.10.6) is fine. No need to update. Put the Odin files where you can find them
Getting Started
If you are on stock and have not rooted or changed the Recovery on your phone, go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, System Updates, Download manually. That should get you to Nougat. We'll come bac to this in a bit.
If you are Rooted and have TWRP installed, you have the option of a Clean Install. Which I recommend as this is a major update. This will wipe your settings and apps, you will need to begin all over, but it is worth the inconvenience. You can use Titanium Backup (TiBu for short) to back up apps and data, but you run the risk of things not working right. Your choice.
1) Download the Nougat TAR file and put that in your Odin directory.
2) To do a clean install, go to TWRP. Wipe, Advanced Wipe, then select Dalvik, System, Data and Internal Storage. WARNING! This is going to wipe everything, so back up your pictures, chat logs, etc. FIRST! Don't leave TWRP after this.
3) Still in TWRP, go to the Reboot menu. Select Download. Your phone should now be in Download mode.
4) Connect your cable, open Odin and select AP and point it to the QC7 file. Click start and wait awhile. This is rewriting your Recovery and operating system. It is going to take some time. Your phone should reboot.
5) Once you are done, you should be on Nougat. You will need to log in, like you were setting up a new phone.
6) Now to install TWRP and Root. Power your phone down. Once it is shut down, use Volume Down + Home Button + Power to get back into Download mode. Grab the TWRP TAR file from here: https://dl.twrp.me/zerofltespr/ Put that in your Odin directory as well, but wait before flashing. Open Odin, go to Options and de-select Auto Reboot. We don't want the phone to reboot until we root it first. Otherwise it will overwrite the TWRP file and return to stock recovery. Now we can flash the TWRP TAR.
7) Your phone will still be in Download mode. Hold the Volume Down + Home Button + Power buttons until the phone shuts down. It takes some seconds, don't panic.
8) After shutdown, hold the Volume Up + Home Button + Power to get into TWRP. Grab the root file from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/root-s6-nougat-supersu-t3570740 (don't forget to thank @dr.ketan for his work) and copy that to your phone. Flash in TWRP and reboot.
9) You now have a nice, clean, Nougat install with Root and TWRP.
Let me know your comments and if there are any steps that I need to modify.

Thanks, rooted no problem. I like the new ui so far and battery seems better already, as well as signal. Anyone figure out hotspot? I tried the flashable fix and idone but figured neither would work this time. Whats odd is the hotspot and tethering app appears to be for verizon? I froze it and it doesnt affect hotpot under settings.

You'd be able too. You'd just have to flash a tar file from 6.0.1 through odin.
Would it be possible to use this method without wiping the device, and not brick the phone?

Yes. I did this and I'm not having any issues or battery drain problems. You'll have the best experience if you do wipe, though. I'd do a backup either way just in case.
Out On Travel
Glad that this is working out for everyone. I'll be gone most of next week on a work trip. I'll check in on my return.
Have fun with Nougat!

Check on the Xposed thread, this is only for TWRP and Root. (I don't use Xposed, I'd be as likely to tell you the wrong thing as I would be to help.)
As of February, I heard that it wasn't ready. See http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...r-says-be-patient-a-nougat-version-is-coming/
But again, I just don't know for sure.
Yeah, there is still no xposed for nougat now. What a pity.

QB1 is the latest TAR file available. To get to Nougat you need to take the OTA. Which is why the instructions say "Connect to your network and follow the instructions above about System Updates. Once you are done, you should be on Nougat."
