SGH-T889v has a sim card reader tagged as GT-N7105 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Darn! Good news for those who have the Wind Mobile GN2 (Canadian) version SGH-T889v. However bad news for me. I killed the SIM pins and ordered a SIM card reader (marked 7100) and after opening the phone I saw the different tags - GT-N7105.
I guess my question is, are the SIM card readers different? It is connected to the SD card portion as well.
Thanks in advance for any comments or guidance!
...
Actually, looking closer I see another part tagged GT-N7100?!?!? Mish mash of parts I guess.

Galaxy nexus micro sim slot?

Can someone tell me for certain (someone who has the phone or has opened one up), tell me if the Galaxy Nexus has a micro sim slot or not? I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere...
No, normal SIM.
Just look at the instructional videos straight from google. It does not have a micro SIM. It has a standard (what we think of as standard is actually "Mini") SIM.
Remember though, you can put a micro SIM in a mini SIM slot. You just need a small plastic adapter to make it seat properly.

The Galaxy Nexus definitely takes a normal sim card. The confusion may have arisen over phones4u sending out micro sim cards with new orders but this was a mistake and a standard sim card is the only one that will work in there.
Mark.

Well like I said above, a micro SIM will work if you use an adapter. The adapters allow you to slot a micro SIM into them and provide extra plastic around them to be the size of a mini SIM.
The slot in the phone is most definitely a standard SIM slot though.

Not entirely true, it is possible to balance/wedge the microsim on the contacts and have a working phone

Well that would have been ok then IF an adapter had been supplied with the micro sim but as it wasnt then its totally useless lol.

Yes I agree that wedging random things in sim slot is bad idea, however....
If you happened to be like me and have tons of random mobile crap or sim leftover items like the cards that are credit card sized which house the original micro-sim often, then some of them have an actual cutout of a larger sim original size sim to be more clear which is popped out then the micro-sim is popped out of that piece. It's a backup/cheap way I figured for companies at one time to make sims and ship them out in one pack/card then when the user gets their phone and they match up what sim size they need they have both options....or I could be very wrong who knows.
Any ways, my point is simply that one of those leftover housings of a original size sim that you might have popped out a micro-sim from for another phone can come in handy as all you do is simply place your current micro-sim in the gap where another one used to be and it kind of even snaps into place then you have a bootleg like adapter for micro to original size sim. I don't know it worked me on my i9250 gsm world nexus and verizon.
normal aim
use adaptor

Note ii & vodafone uk micro sim cards

Hello there,
has anyone got a note ii with vodafone micro sim card running fine?
I have inserted several micro sim cards from vodafone, including at two vodafone stores, sadly non of them get recognised. Could my note ii be faulty?
I need to know this so that I can return it to Handtec UK.
Thanks for the heads up.

Have you tried other sim cards? if you experience the same problem with other sim cards then it could be your unit...

It is very strange because I have a pay as you go vodafone micro sim card that works just fine, as does a t-mobile micro sim from my s 3.
The trouble is with the contract micro sent to me, as well as the ones I tried today.
Also, when you look at the chips on the micro sims, the t-mobile as well as the vodafone pay as you go micro sims are longer than the chips on the others. When voda sent the micro to me, it read iPhone/iPad. The assistants in the voda stores claim the micro sim is said to be for iPad/iPhone, but should work in any phone designed to take micro sim cards.
I got mine from Vodafone as upgrade. It comes with a micro sim. It has been working fine for me for the last 2 weeks.

I have tried O2, tmobile, gifgaff, and an Asian roaming sim card with mine and they all work. Are you saying the sim card from voda is not the same size as the one that works? Maybe they are NANO sim cards and the contacts dont line up with your Note 2. So they don't work. Or if they are for iphone, then they are for iphone, which is trying hard to monopolise the industry, but will NEVER happen! Phuck apple devices !!!!
Probably vodafone are giving me non cards, because as I said, their pay as you go has a longer chip. The trouble is that the guys in the stores can see this, but insist the "nano" should work?

They're giving you nano-sims?
Unless you're inserting them with an adapter I doubt they'll work as the note 2 is designed to take micro sims, not nano sims. Nano sims are a bit smaller.

I just don't know what is up with these sim cards. I was on chat with a voda customer rep. He will be sending out another sim card. I hope it works. I advised him to look at the lengths of the chip itself, and get to me one that equals the length of their PAYG micro sim cards.
I will let you know how I get on in three to five working days, which is when the sim might be with me.
I cut mine with scissors... I couldn't wait long enough to drive 5 miles to the nearest store haha

Actually it's funny because I've tried to insert nano simcard by a mistake and it actually works (DON'T THINK ABOUT DOING THIS). I hope it won't move while being inside or I'm screwed. It was already too late when I realized that nano sim card is different from micro sim. Guess I was too excited to try this phone out.
The screenshots were taken with SG Note 1 and I kept the resolution unchanged.
Don't ask me how did I do it, because I don't know it myself.

I also made calls with it and it's working just fine.

Yeah I'll have to buy an micro sim adapter for the peace of mind.
You can purchase micro sim cutters; or use one as a template. I've had no issues with my normal sim cut with scissors. Hell, I wonder why they decided to go the micro-sim root anyway. Complicates things.

I am currently using my micro sim from my iphone 4 on the note 2 and had no problems. I have been using the same sim on the day of the launch of note 2 and it's been fine.
Could the moderators please close this thread?
My issue has been resolved. The micro sim card tray was faulty.
I posted my phone back to Handtec on Wednesday. They received it yesterday, and I have received a new replacement today.
They are excellent for delivering quality in time. One day between the original order and delivery, one day between return/warranty and replacement.
If they could do it in one day, they would.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 T989 SIM Card/Micro-SD Assembly FIX

Hi Folks, I have been using T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 T989 for almost an year now without any problems, just recently I got a Samsung Galaxy Note2 which uses a Micro SIM Card and with an intention of using JUST one SIM Card on both the devices (as most people do) I CUT the original SIM card into a Micro SIM card and used it in Note2 and it worked Seamlessly fine, now to use the Micro SIM card in S2 I had to use a Adapter which I did and while trying to fit it in and (of course when it didn't fit) while puling it out the Edges of the SIM Card Holder/Reader tipped (on the edges), causing disconnection of the SIM card with the Assembly. I still am able to fit the card in (requires Perfection) and make it work seamlessly fine, but I still wanted to know the procedure to replace the SIM Card/Micro-SD Slot Assembly in the UNIT.
Also I was able to find a OEM replacement on EBAY selling for around 13$
I will be delighted if someone can guide me in taking out the Assembly and replacing it with the new one. Please note that my Skill level is intermediate and I am pretty much experienced in opening up the electronics and have teared opened Gadgets like PS3, Xbox, PSP, Windows Phone, IPhone with ease. Also please tell me if the replacement requires any soldering as I am not comfortable with it.
If anybody has any Tips and suggestions, please email me at [email protected].
Regards,
Naveed
What a coincidence, I'm looking for the guide too. Can anyone share with us? I broke my sim card slot. I bought a replacement and tried to explore how to fix myself. I was able to disconnect the connector but I am not able to remove the whole jacket. Can someone pin point us on that?
Your help will be greatly appreciated
@Danbuffalo, can we sync-up over the email. Please send me a Test email from your ID at [email protected] I need to tell you a lot of things.

Did any of you ever work out how to replace the micro sd card reader? Mine quit reading the card and I'd like to replace it.

Where to buy a sim card reader for the SGH-I747

I bought one off of Etradesupply.com but they sent me one for the gt-i9300 which is a smaller one and doesnt fit where can I buy an OEM one from?
anybody?
I'd like to buy one today if somebody could help me
You can do it right in your phone with an app called "Sim Contact Manager."
Much cheaper, too!
Edit: I had not tried this since transferring to S3. Doesn't work in this phone. Must be something different with micro SIM.
mengtor or gounlock.
Search for i747
Just as a tip for somebody that finds this thread in the future - You can buy the I9300 sim card tray all you need to do is peel the sim card and micro sd card reader from the iron plate and put it on your original i747 plate..Both readers can be removed easily by peeling them off they are just held on by glue

[Q] GNex doesn't recognize any micro-SIM card (even with adapter)

Yesterday I had to switch the SIM-card in my GNex. The new one is a combi-SIM-card (an ordinary one where you can break out a micro SIM).
The ordinary one wasn't recognized so I broke out the micro SIM and tried it in my iPhone. It works flawlessly.
Then I used a micro-sim adapter to put it in my GNex again. Not working again. Then I tried to place the micro SIM manually in my GNex. Moved it a little bit — airplane mode on — airplane mode off. Again nothing. I also tried it with another micro SIM card. Again no luck.
The only type of SIM cards which seem to work are the old ones with the bigger connectors but sadly I can't get one of these anymore for my contact since they are all combi-SIM cards now.
So does anyone have an idea how to get that SIM card running in my GNex? It's too young to retire it :/
This is the equipment:
Strange my micro sim works great without adapter. Just needed to fiddle then restarts it and it picked it up

One of the SIM card reader PINs seems to be gone. I already ordered a replacement SIM card reader from eBay for 5€.
The repair-shop told me that T-mobile SIM cards could still work since only the lower right PIN is missing. I don't know why but the shop-guy was right.
EDIT: I was able to fix the missing PIN temporarily by using tinfoil )
