Development or Original Development - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Can someone explain the difference between the development thread and the original development of thread? I know how people are on these boards and don't want to post in the wrong sections.
Sent from my Note II

If it's anything like the S3 pages "OG" Development will be for the likes of AOSP/AOKP roms and tools while the Android Development will stick to roms and tools for TW items.
Sent from the second version of a hefty "Note" pad.

Original Android Development is for ROMs, Kernels, Modules [...] developed from SOURCE.
Android Development is for Modded Stock ROMs and everything else that's NOT a genuine development work (read: has not been built from source)

Here is another good resource if you want to read about it a little bit more...

Can somebody make a new thread on general forum?

I think we need a new thread on general about 4.2.1 discussion and issues. another thread about 4.1.2 This is for CM, AOKP vanilla roms. I would make the thread but I have no experience in putting all of these together
I would but no uses them they love to clutter the dev ROMs with the same stuff over and over and over. I tried to get a CM 10.1 thread going based off my CM10 thread, lasted for about 4 posts lol

Lmao there is a thread like that on the s2 forum. It was very useful to find what issues these roms have.
Right now we dont have a thread like that. That can tell users including me and keep up with the issues and bugs these roms may have.
Maybe I'll really start working on the rom bible.
Here's the CM10/.1 thread I gave up on cause no uses it lol.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813456
I'm making the "ROM bible now", only reviewing and giving a lost of mods on threads that have at least 50,000 views. I will create a link to others and label them as TW or AOSP influenced.

How to make a new thread

Jedi X11 or Jedi Master 10?

* Mod please move to Q&A. Thanks! *
Is there a list of the comparison of both ROMs? (Aside to the feature list on the front page.)
btw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168093 ....is not very informative.
(Besides X11 being based on International vs X10 (TM base) w/ wifi)....
Note: Aside to the minor differences between the two, I figured this will also help satisfy future curiosities...it's always to have a simple answered post.
You answered your own question. That's it.... What they're based off and the features stated in the changelogs. After that it's personal preference. I tried Em both and loved them both equally. I have tmobile and though I don't use wifi calling.... I'd rather stick with the base. They're both awesome bro simple as that.

Tweaked is the rom you want.
And this is the wrong section. Good day
Give them a try, see what you like. I am not running either right now but playing with tweaked. They have all been smooth and stable so you can't really go wrong. With that said you are a senior member since 2010, you know this is not the q&a section and this is not related to development hence does not belong in this section. If you click on the top left link for the tmobile samsung galaxy note 2 that will take you back a section where you will see different sections for general, q&a, themes, apps etc.. This post will be removed/or move based on moderator discretion since it's not in the correct place.
Well what are the odds...if it's simply just that then hey...Cheers! :highfive:

I like the jedi

Why is this not a sticky in every sub-forum?

I ran across this in the Nexus 4 Dev forum..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982483
So why is this not the header of every dev section!!! ¡
I know you don't know.. Lol...
So you guys think we should have a similar post?

Definitely needed in this forum, seems like a lot of cherry-pickers looking for acknowledgment for cutting and pasting other peoples stuff.
Most roms out there are just cm or aokp with a few tweaks and cosmetic changes or a straight port .....always been that way and always will. Gonna be a real quiet dev section if "copies" weren't allowed. Most are just learning by doing this and sharing....I see no harm in it personally.
If we had more development than we do.....an original dev section and regular dev section may work....like nexus 7 forum for example....but with t989 I think moving roms to general or another dev section isn't necessary.
Just my opinion.

If you read the post. Those ROMs could go in the general section until they mature past a learning experience.

I read it just fine. And my personal opinion (yes...imho) is that it just mucks up the general section. Let people flash the copy roms if they want...their choice. And like I said....about half the t989 roms would end up there.
I just don't think our dev section is busy enough to be worried about this. Some phone sections definitely need these rules, nexus devices for example....but the t989 dev section is not so packed that I think those roms are muddying the waters much.
Where do you suggest the line be drawn as to what is suitable for dev section? We have cm, slim, aokp, skyrocket ports and other roms being altered slightly and in our dev section.....they aren't hurting anyone...and the guys are learning a lot and sometimes making improvements.....but, are they original works? ? So they will all go to general section?
I guess then, to agree in part, I think an original dev section, and a regular dev section may be a better idea. Again....like the nexus 7 for example.
The noobs get slammed by enough unamed veterans already for not searching hard enough.....putting a bunch of roms in general will just make it messy and worse.
Check out the i9100 general section. A mess if you ask me.
K....sorry for the novel!

Also....with t989 devs getting new devices and moving on....why not encourage and support the guys just starting out. Let them go at their pace.....they may be the veterans soon as our current top devs move on.
As I said, its the users choice to flash the roms they flash.....what's the difference what section they're in? To me....all roms should be in dev section. Much less confusion.

Eh, that's not completely true about Nexus forums; there are a lot of Nexus only/original ROMs out. Most newer devices have two dev forums; one for original development (custom kernels, 'original' ROMs, etc.), and the other just 'normal' android development (kangs like stated above).
If you want to see the 'original' ROMs, check out the original dev section.

I know what you're saying...and I think its a far better idea than putting any roms in general. Just too messy!
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
Yeah. I see where your coming from. It would be messy and that may get annoying as well.
But to be honest there is to much leniency in this forum. Dropping straight compiled builds from source "to learn" is not helping the community and is not helping that person learn...
I can build from source and compile that doesn't mean that I know how to build a ROM or that it's a good idea to post them and clutter up the dev section.
I can unzip an already built rom and move some application files around and add some stuff to the build.prop. Does that mean I built a ROM? No. It means that I know how to use WinZip. And definitely should never be in any dev section.
Now I also know some c# , some basic, a little bit C++. Now if I or somebody else use that knowledge to take a pre existing ROM and actually assist in the development or fix problems or issues then that is development and that would belong in the development section.
This is obviously all my opinion. Some of you may agree , some of you may not, some of you might even be one of these people I'm talking about. And this is neither here nor there I simply think everyday dev section should have a sticky like this.

Why do we have 2 SGS 4 sections?

Why do we have a T-mobile
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2279
and a regular SGS4 forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2162'
Aren't we T-mobile USA M919 people the same thing as SGS4 9505?
International version is the 19500 something something

There's the International i9500 and the i9505... one is the octa-core and the other is the quad-core just like the m919. i9505 and m919 ROMs (all SGS4 models except the 9500, actually) are interchangeable so long as they don't include modems/baseband, etc...but who does that anyway? Oh, and the kernel; gotta use a kernel for your specific model...
Yeah.. I get everything you guys are saying, but my question is NOT "What kind of phones are out there"
My question is why do we have 2 forums, the T-mobile forum, and the other SGS4 forum... when we can all just go into the 9505 forum on xda..

Yea but think of how many problems this would cause because of the 3 or 4 things that are not compatible. Seems like its easier for newbies to just look for where they bought their phone and not have to worry about basebands, Kernels, Radio/Modems and any other incompatible firmware.

I think things are bad as it is and I agree that 3-4 different S4 models in the same forums
is just asking for more problems and a lot more little shiny BRICKS! LOL
What I really would like to see though, and I am surprised that no one else mentioned it before me which is
the fact that there are two Tmobile M919 Forums, one for the "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Original Android Development"
and the other for "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development".
At first when the the "Original Development" forums were created it was made clear to all the devs that all the CM10/AOSP/AOKP/MIUI
roms belong in the "Original Development" forums. (this held true for other brands and models of phones not just the S4)
And now for who knows what reason a lot of the CM10/AOSP/AOKP devs started using the "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android
Development" forum for all those AOSP/AOKP/CM10 roms so now they are all mixed together with the standard Touchwiz Jellybean
based custom roms.
Sometimes it's not very easy to even tell which is which unless we search real hard in the OP post of each roms thread.
I am surprised that none of the xda moderators here have said anything about it, and it's been going on now for a long time.

Its because the ROMs in the original development section are built from source. The other section may be based on aosp ROMs but its not built from source.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
It all is very clear. Of everything is original development for original roms. Roms that have original coding and features. Everything else goes in the other development. It is not just a matter of being built from source. I could build an AOKP roms from source but it would not go in original development. As there is nothing original in the rom. Just a kang of someone else's work.
As for the OP question. The simplest and most straight forward answer is that people are stupid and can't read or do proper research before they decide to reprogram their device. So we have to separate them and give them less chance of screwing it up and then filling this development forum with tons of thread stating how they bricked their device and need help fast, like this is some support site.
Wayne Tech Nexus
When the s3 came out last year, I remember that there was only one forum for the Intl and US variants, boy what a mess it was reading threads that does not relate to the tmo version or the att one. I'm glad xda realized it and separated it like how it is now. It is better this way and much easier to find answers or ask questions related to your specific device.

on the international side roms are based off the international stock version.
Then you have the carrier branded sites for tmobile att verizon etc.. which have roms based off there respective carrier. So for us its based off tmobile rom with tmobile bloat ie wifi calling.
that at least my take.

difference between ....

Whats the difference between Note II Android Development and Note II Original Android Development threads ? what the point behind this and the difference ?? almost all phne models have such threads
Original is dedicated to n7100 the other thread is n7105 lte version basically.
GT N7105 with XDA Premium......that is all......
Original is original work like kernels and cm/aosp roms and the other is for stock modded roms and things like that. That's how I understand it anyway

+1 on that. LTE variant has its separate forum so the 3G/LTE distinction is not valid.
From what I can see, "Note II Android Development" is stock ROM stuff and "and Note II Original Android Development" is AOSP Android stuff, hence "Original Android".
The problem is that some threads aren't in the right section...

Yeah, some threads overlap each other. But big things like ROMs are usually under the right forum.
