[Q] [Prepaid]Can I use the SIM card that came with the box? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, I know that I can order a sim card from Tmo or Walmart for prepaid plans but I noticed that I already have a sim card in the box. Can I use this sim or do I need to order one from the website?

Hi! I think you can use the sim card in the box, but you need an activation number from an activation kit if you want the $30 plan. The card won't do you any good without an activation number. Good Luck.
And you have to do it online- can't get that plan over the phone. The $30 unl data (5 gb/4g),unl text, 100 min. is only available at tmobile.com online or thru walmart. If you call it in you will get the other $30 plan- 1500 min/text with 30 mb data.

Yea the card in the box doesn't have that activation number. I guess I have to buy the sim activation kit first...

Your best bet is to order online for $.99. If you don't want to wait, I think the walmart one is $10.
I just read someone got the store to activate that $30 plan instore. You could take a chance and visit a tmobile store, see if they will do it for you. But if you didin't buy it in that store, they may not. Good luck!

I already have a plan and today I swapped from the Galaxy SII and bought the Note II. They took the SIM from the old unit and cut it down to a mini SIM in a special machine. Worked a treat!

[Q] US Coverage

I've got an unlocked Nexus on Telus and was wondering if anyone has recommendations as to how to get data functional in the US as a Canadian with this phone? Is it possible to just pick up a prepaid gift credit card and use it to get a prepaid SIM somewhere like Walmart or Target?
I haven't run across any big stores that sell a SIM alone.
For my GSM Gnex, I went to wal-mart and bought a $18 TMobile phone, took the SIM out of it, and activated it in the Nexus. I was impatient. You can buy a sim for TMobile online, OR at one of their stores. Tmobile has some $2 - $3 per day "unlimited" sim card plans... which is just about perfect for a vacation.
You can also go to AT&T and get a prepaid GOPhone SIM, but they have HORRIBLE pricing.
if you are staying longer than a week or two, it might be cheaper to order a sim and just pay for a month:
http://www.straighttalksim.com/
I'd go with the "AT&T Branded SIM", they have better data coverage overall... but it gets a bit spotty in NYC/SF
Thanks for the tip!

[Q] T-Mobile $30 100 Min, Unlimited Data and Text Plan?

My current Tmobile contract is ending in December (Classic Plan), and Im planning to move to a Nexus 4 off of contract. Thats besides the point. I talked to a T-Mobile CS rep this morning and they said its possible for me to move to this plan and keep my number. Good news as I thought it was only for new adopters of Tmobile. But the rep said I had to buy the activation kit from Walmart since its a Walmart promotion and then call CS to switch over. He said it wasn't possible to get the activation kit directly from the Tmobile site.
Why couldn't I buy the activation kit straight from Tmobile, as they sell them? I see others mention they are doing this but I dont know if this is because they are new customers.
Anyone have experience with switching to this plan?
Okay this is what you do.
This is a walmart plan....but its also a web plan you can order to from there website most reps don't know what their talking about!! .....I know bcuz this is my full proof plan.
1. This plan can only be activated on a new sim card.
2. Go to a T-mobile store and ask them for a new sim card bcuz yours is messed up/make up something about your card being slow on 4g.
3. The reps there arnt going to know about the plan oor say its not possible. But get the sim card and then *Important*
-Only call CS and tell them you want to switch to the online plan $30 and you have your New* sim card' (Activation kit is only a sim card the cs rep on the phone should be able to switch you to the plan)
The problem is ppl think you need the kit/walmart to do it, but that's not true I got the plan twice once for me and one for my friend the same way.
Tell the cs rep if they don't know (That you know you could get that plan 'activating' the new sim card you got for free from the tmobile store)
You just have to be persistent. I had to call 4 times.
Remember when calling that they have access to all their plans and Do* know about it, its just the only way to get this is to activate a new sim card, and yes you can keep your same number!
If you have any problems feel free to pm me!
This is byfar the best plan ever when you us GV + SIPdroid + Pbxes.org is the best ever! Plus t-mobiles wifi calling app goes good to save battery I literraly never use enough data and talk over 2000minutes on data =2gb a month some wifi/4g

Last Question Before Buying

When you buy the Note 2 without contract for $700 dollars (including tax, etc) and as a Non-T-Mobile customer, is a micro-SIM card still included?
yes
Thanks, the reason I ask is that I may activate T-Mobile service in the very near future; Am I able to do so with the existing micro-SIM card that is included in the box?
If you're using postpaid, yes. If you're going to use prepaid, you will need an activation kit which includes a sim for $0.99.
thanks

S4 on Tmobile prepaid plan

I'm on the $30 prepaid plan. Can I just walk into a Tmobile store, give them my current number, pay cash for the phone, and start using it with the prepaid plan, or do I have to go through the "get a new plan and cancel" routine?
productivity ighlking
I never succeeded in buying the phone outright, not even from their website. Got mine from Newegg, shipped to my door in less than 24 hours.
$695.99 + $9.99 next day shipping, didn't even charge me tax in CA.
Yup, I know from experience.
Ugh, that doesn't sound good. The models listed on Newegg do NOT sound like they support Tmobile 4g.
Maybe I'll get the Google version. Sigh....

T-Mobile, as of now, won't sell an S4 unless you get a new plan.
The only way to get an S4 from a T-Mobile store is as follows:
Get the $50 plan and pay for the phone fully up front.
A day or two after, cancel the plan.
Go to a T-Mobile store and buy a new SIM activation kit for $10.
Activate the new SIM card on their website and select the $30 plan.
IMMEDIATELY, call T-Mobile and get them to combine your old account(the one with your phone #, not the one you just canceled) with the new one and make sure they keep your old number, the new plan, and change nothing else.
If you port your # to Google Voice, or don't care about losing your old number, then you don't need to do the last step.

I'm on prepaid - not even the $30/month prepaid but the 10 cents/minute prepaid. Of course, I don't get data but wifi is avail. most of the places I go - and if I really need data I pony up for the $3/day plan. Then switch back to 10 cents/minute plan before midnight. I really enjoy paying only ~$150/year for service. Anyway.
I Walked into the local T-Mobile store on May 15th, told them I was prepaid and wanted to buy it outright. They first rung it up for $659, but I reminded them they quoted me a price of $629 a few weeks before. They also went over to the display model - and sure enough it says $629 - so they changed it. I bought a D30 screen protector and case. They said I could get any other accessory of equal or or less value for free. They transferred my account to the micro-sim card for free and I was out the door. No hassles.
I had a similar experience buying the S3 last year in another local T-Mobile store. They both seemed happy to take my money and help me with a sim transfer even though I was prepaid.
I don't see why they wouldn't allow you to buy the GS4 full price and put it on prepaid. that is what I am planning on doing

Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems the best strategy will be to attempt what you did (perhaps at more than one store) and resort to getting a new line as a backup plan.

I wish I knew. I called 6 of the nearest T-Mobile stores in my area and called in to customer service and they all said they couldn't sell me an S4 unless I got it with one of their post-paid plans. For y'all who were able to do it w/o getting a post-paid plan, you lucky dogs! It makes the process of getting an S4 so much easier.

Thanks, that certainly sounds hassle-free. Since I'm already on the $30 plan, can I safely assume I could simply put my current sim in the phone and be good to go?

What phone do you have now? The gs4 uses a micro sim which might be different then your current sim. If you have a micro sim your good to go.

I was thinking I could use a micro sim cutter to cut my current sim down to micro size, but maybe it would be easier and safer to just get a new micro sim. Only cumbersome part would be having to call Tmobile to cancel the old sim and transfer my current number to the new sim, presumably.

ive bought the phone outright the day the order page went up. i even choose one of the new plans on the site. got it next day, threw out the sim card that came with it and put in my prepaid sim. ive been on the prepaid 30$ plan since i go the phone and have had absolutely no problems.
the best way to get it onto the prepaid plan is to do it all online, because the service reps have no clue what they are talking about 90 percent of the time
At one of T-Mo stores in my area they said I could get it for $690 + tax without a postpaid plan. At another store, they didn't have it in stock but told me it would be around $660.00 + tax. So I just went to Walmart and purchased the one they sell for the Family Mobile Plan for $629.99 + tax. Since that Family Mobile Walmart plan is powered by T-Mobile, my prepaid microsim worked right away. I did have to buy the $25.00 starter kit buy I returned it the next day.

Fascinating way to get around the Tmobile nonsense! Thanks! BTW, can you check to see if LTE works?

[Q] Getting my Note 4 from Amazon today - Have UDP Do I need to insert my old sim

I have a rooted Note 2 and UDP. I purchased a Note 4 from Amazon and it will arrive in a few hours. I currently have unlimited data and am on a month to month agreement.
Will the Note 4 from Amazon come with a sim? Do I have to swap the sim from my Note 2 before I power up the note 4 or is that for those who didn't buy a full price phone off contract?
I believe I read that some features of the Note 4 may not work right with older sim card inserted, that is why I am asking.
Thanks, I don't want to mess this up.
If you bought the phone at full retail price you dont have to swap the sim cards. If you bought it on a 2 year agreement price (299) then yes you will need to take the new sim card and insert your note 2 sim into the note 4 before you power it on. Remember to destroy the new sim card. You dont want it to get accidentally activated. Over on slickdeals there is about 800 pages of how to do this.
http://slickdeals.net/f/6964624-upg...data-with-verizon?v=1&p=70429924#post70429924
I received my Amazon Note 4 yesterday and all I did was remove the sim card they ship with the Note 4 and replace it with my current active sim from my Note 3, then powered up the phone and went through the setup.
The phone said the sim is already activated and was able to setup the phone as normal. I checked the vzw account site and now has the Note 4 showing as my device with my existing Unlimited data.
I was told by Amazon that if you buy the phone off contract you don't get a sim.
Sounds like they are shipping with sim from some of the other posters.
I called Verizon and they said I just put my current sim from my old phone into the new note 4 and it should work. I think I was planning to call them to let them know I was switching phones but not plans (also on gf udp) and Verizon also told me if I had any issues I could go to a Verizon store and get a new sim without changing anything on my plan and for no cost.
I originally ordered from AMazon but switched my order to BB because they matched the price and guaranteed me the $200 off to match Samsung's rebate. I still don't have my phone from Best Buy which is frustrating because I believe I would have gotten it from Amazon by now but atleast I am guaranteed the $200 off. You should make sure you file for the $200 rebate with Samsung (trade in an old phone with Amazon)
Yep, thanks. I already did a trade in.

Either swap sim or using new sim, they both considered as ACTIVATION, which will not alter your data plan. Only DEVICE UPGRADE FROM YOUR EXISTING DATA PLAN will alter your data plan.
