[Q] Frame rate issues and stuttering - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've been having issues with the GN2's performance while scrolling menus and playing games. Jetpack Joyride is the most noticeable, with it stuttering all throughout. This even happens with simple games like Scramble with Friends, making it more unresponsive than it should be. Plugging the phone into the wall seems to lessen the stuttering. It also appears that the longer the app is used it slightly lessens the stuttering.
Strangely, frame rates seem better while playing 3D intensive apps like Death Dome.
My Galaxy S2 did not have any of these problems throughout its entire life span, ever. It did everything buttery smooth, which is strange considering this phone is supposed to be more powerful. The stuttering isn't terrible, but it's definitely there, and I'm not exactly happy with it.
This occurs no matter how many idle programs are closed or what Launcher that is used. I've used TouchWiz, Launcher Pro, and Go Launcher.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is this something that can be fixed or should I return the phone for another?

Wow, hahaaa! Thanks a lot! That's silly to think that works. I felt like it was some sort of power related issue and was sooner going to overclock the CPU than suspect that option.
It didn't work immediately after disabling it, but once I restarted the phone everything was fine. THANKS AGAIN!!

Help me diagnose the lag problem

Ever since I updated my phone to stock 4.0.4, it's not been the same buttery smooth Epic Touch that it used to be on Gingerbread. Sometimes the lags gets so bad that the phone would restart itself. I have done a reformat and things have been going smooth for about 2 months and it has started lagging again now. Right now I am running minimum 3rd party apps, and only limited to reputable ones such as Facebook and whatnot. The CPU Spy shows the phone is in deep sleep most of the time. Android OS still takes up about 90% of battery usage. I made sure nothing is hogging up the ram in task manager and clear memory 2-3 times a day. Yet, it still lags like crazy especially while typing or turning the screen off.
Can anyone chime in on what else could be causing this?

since you mention facebook what's your sync situation like? just a suggestion as I remember similar threads where constant syncing was causing issues... if android os is using that much battery something is amiss... its just a matter of figuring out what...

FB's refresh interval is set to 1 hour. Is that what you are referring to?

Welcome to ics. I get the same thing and have tried everything. Good news is they are pumping out new builds pretty quick to hopefully they are working out all the kinks.

My SGN seems to have significant problems with 3D graphics performance in games...

Hello,
I am the owner of SGN since september.
I am really disappointed, because there seems to be a problem with 3D graphics performance: and to be precise with its FPS consistence. In some 3D excessive games (GTA in particular, but also Trials Xtreme 3, NFS:MW and other AAA titles) there seems to be a problem: there is a certain interval of time when a game works perfectly, and then for a few seconds it slows down WITHOUT A REASON and then plays good again. This seems to be particulary a problem in GTA games where the game slows down to a mere 4 FPS, and then continues to run flawlessly for 20-30 seconds, then slows down again for a few, and so on.
PLEASE help me xda, you are my only hope. Noone seems to have a clue on what can potentially cause this weird problem.
do you have force gpu rendering turned on? anything running in the background? what about facebook syncing?

First of all, thanks for Your response.
Yes, I did triet turning the force GPU thingy on. Doesn't seem to help.
I think background apps are not an issue since I tested my phone after formatting it and it was clean.
Facebook syncing? What do you mean?
If you use the Facebook app, it might constantly trying to sync. You said you had the same problem on a clean install though so I'm thinking that's not the problem
I bet that the cpu is at 70 C, and the Thermal Throttle enter in function.
I had the same problem with dead trigger (i found that it automaically set up the Tegra effect)

Thanks for the answer!
Yes, the phone do gets quite hot after a while actually!
So is this behaviour normal? And how should I fix this, if it is at all doable?

When the cpu reaches the thermal throttal temperature (about 70°C) it slows the cpu down so that it cools down. When it reaches the 70°C mark again the procedure repeats. So if you would turn thermal throttle off it shouldnt happen again I THINK. But I dont recommend doing that. Stay safe, keep your baby safe (gnex )

Well, I cant find these "power saving" options mentioned in a thread above. Can anyone help me to find them? Are they even present in SGN?
And how can I disable thermal throttling, just for the test?
And thanks for all the help so far!

Does Tab S employ DVFS throttling?

This caused tremendous slowdown and throttling issues on the S4 but not sure if it is still in effect on the Tab S. Anyone know?
In Wanam Xposed there is an option to disable DVFS under Advanced Settings. I did that and nothing exploded so we'll see. Apparently what DVFS does is dramatically throttle the cpu as the tablet warms up, supposedly to preserve battery life.
Appreciate some expert input on this
Could be 100% placebo effect but here is what I have noticed after disabling DVFS.
1) Tablet feels a bit smoother overall.
2) Previously I noticed after browsing for a while, the keyboard input would begin to bog down. Now that seems to not be happening.
3) Previously after browsing for a while my memory usage would go to 90% and I would have to clear it. Now after an hour of browsing, typing in forums and watching videos, memory usage is only 69%.
So, as I said have no idea if these things are purely coincidence with no meaning. Simply reporting observations. Placebo effect can be strong.
for me, swiftkey seems to lag out horribly in Hangouts if a lot of things are in the memory..hangouts itself sucks and is much laggier when used on a non-stock android device, and swiftkey can also be called lagkey, so when you mix those two on the samsung devices, you have lag central. my GS4 had the same issue. when i clear out everyhting, it seems fine. maybe i'll look into this and see if that fixes it.

Yeah run it up the flagpole and see if you can feel a difference.
I tried Swiftkey and gave up on it. It kept freaking out and starting new words in the middle of words I had already typed. People seem to love it but for me it was complete fail. I'm back to the Stock keyboard after running this fix and typing seems much more consistent with no slowdown at all. Would be curious to hear additional feedback.
Other than that everything else just sort of "feels" better although it's hard to actually quantify it.

Question Lag and GPS issues?

I noticed that there is lag with apps opening, loading times, etc. It's noticeable for me.
Also, having GPS issues. Device is having issues with staying connected when I walk around. Note20 didn't have any issues.
Seeing if anyone else is experiencing them before I contact Sammy.
UPDATE: GPS seems to be holding. Apps are still a lil slow to load. Maybe it just needs to cache app data.
Hello,
To speed up the phone, I always go under the dev options to scale the animations speed to 0,5x

Generally, out-of-the-box the phones work well and are snappy. This isn't the case. It should perform better than the Note20 Ultra, and isn't thus far.
GPS is still if-y at times.
If no one else is experiencing this then it's my phone unit. Sucks cuz I just got my work stuff setup.
It's something I always do as an habit on any phone because the animations are super slow on 1x speed.
I didn't test the GPS yet, I have a habit of turning position services off.
Yeah, normally it's of fur me too. BUT Pokemon Go + I'm a teacher and walk a couple miles a day.
Yeah, the animations aren't bad, but slow load of apps and lagging in the performance. Could be me. Appreciate the insight.

Lagging while playing garena free fire

Hello guys.
I had some issues with my Galaxy A70. It's lagging like hell while playing garena free fire, my device can handle the game without any issue but I Don't know why this happens.
The problem is when I play the game first 2-3 minutes game works fine but after 2-3 minutes game starts lagging phone slows down and touch sensitivity feels really heavy even game controls seems heavy I can't get fine movement because of this issue. And when I close the game phone seems so much slower it takes 10 seconds to open an app.
And while playing a game when I open the game control menu and close it, game works fine for 1-2 minutes and again it starts lagging. I hope someone here can help me with this issue. Any advice would be much appreciated
My device is not rooted and I'm on android 11 latest version.
Sorry for bad English
It called "thermal throttling".
Most smartphone will thermal throttle when the processor got too hot. Try lower your game setting. This can reduce the heat on the processor, and thus reduce the lag.

I accept your solution. but I'm already playing on lower settings the game lagging also on lower settings. I've tried factory data reset and after that lag disappeared for 2 or 3 days and again after 3 days lag came back I only downloaded the game (downloaded game after factory reset)
I think it's not" thermal throttling " maybe some systems apps causing the issue? Cuz every system has high usage
I've noticed every system apps running at 100%high frequency everytime, I think that might be the issue how can I fix this issue?

Disable you game launcher because when your phone heats up ,it drop your screen frame rate(fps) and also decrease your volume that cause so much of lagging issue.
My suggestion was to use a custom rom to get best gaming experience
It could be anything but if it is related to hardware section u can do nothing. So first of all u need to tell us about the CPU. If it's low-end or entry level CPU u can't play anything on it.
If it's mid-range, I can help u.
I have a phone running on mediatek helio g85 powered by android 12
I face the same issue as you do because I did an update of my os. So don't update your os.
And you need to charge 100% everytime you play. You need to restart the phone or clear the cache of your game before you play. Don't use your mobile data because it will heat up your phone quickly and don't run apps in background like Avast, Facebook Messenger etc. Try to remove your back cover and hold the phone like near a fan and turn off your volume u will notice a big difference and take a break after 30 minutes to cool down and power off the phone and don't use your phone at night power it off.
Also lower your brightness I mean u can play at night time it will not heat up your phone
