Inductive Charging Mod doesn't work? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I tried the Palm inductive charging mod like I have on my Galaxy Nexus and like people use on the SGSIII, and it does not register as charging. I didn't use the two pins underneath the cover, I tapped into the actual battery spring terminals. I went directly from the coil to the spring terminals with solid wire as a proof of concept and it did not register as charging. I had 5.6VDC coming out of the coil and apparently the current isn't high enough for our gigantic battery Looks like I'm going back to regular "plug it in" charging. Sucks...

I also did this mod on my note 2 but like you it doesn't register as charging. I did this mod on my s3 and it worked fine. Is it something with T-Mobile's note?

I think it just doesnt register the roughly 350mah as charging. Now that I have Perseus kernel he said he bumped up the usb charging to 900mah so it may work but I havent tried. Im guessing in stock form the Note2 just laughs at the paltry 350mah.
I keep using that number because thats roughly what my Nexus would charge at without kernel mods...

Yeah, I saw that. Before I hooked anything up I measured 0vdc on those terminals with the phone plugged in and charging. I tries those terminals first, then the battery terminals as everyone warns against. No charging in any circumstance on my device. Maybe my inductive pins and or associated circuitry was jacked up out of the box but I find that hard to believe. Im still waiting to see any Tmo Note users get it running. So far, only the N7100 has had success.

I just tried connecting 5V from a spliced USB cable to the inductive charging pins and the phone does not indicate charging on the T-Mobile Galaxy Note II.
Its a shame, because I have all the necessary hardware after doing this mod to my Galaxy Nexus.

Is it possible that this doesn't work simply because of the ROM. Sort of like how we can't do multiscreen?

No, I dont think so. There is something missing on our devices, hardware wise. This mod is still possible, you just have to take the phone apart to solder into the usb connector. I dont have the time or desire to do that...yet lol.

Wireless charging mod.

I cannot wait for the official galaxy S3 wireless charging kit to come out.
I got inspired by the Galaxy mod that was done by using parts from a Palm Touchstone cover.

I am pretty sure, that I don't need to do an intrusive operation as the one in the link - I believe that Samsung made pins ready for it under the cover.
Does anyone know what the two 'pins' that are exposed to the left of the battery are for?
Thanks!
There are countless threads regarding the "pins", wireless charging kits, and that mod.
I have a touchstone. And a back, and would like to see if anyone has applied this to the S3 and made it work

I have a feeling the wireless charging module will interact somehow with the two pins next to the battery. I was planning on attempting this mod using these pins but without a multimeter i am unable to tell whether these pins can be used and which way round to wire them up. If anyone can assist i would be grateful.

Yes. Countless threads about the mod for the Galaxy S, but I haven't been able to find anything about pins on the Galaxy SIII.
- Maybe I'm just bad at searching, believe me I have tried!
I also would love to know if and how someone gets their sgs3 working with the palm touchstone! Hope it is not too difficult!

I have finally managed to find a page that claimt that the two pins next to the battery indeed are for wireless charging.

Only problem is, I don't know Trusted Reviews - so I don't know how 'Trusted' they are?
All I need now is to find out which pin is 0V and which is +5V. (I'm pretty sure that the current is the same as the Palm cover provides.

Yes it works, it will be a little slower, im only seeing 450mah going in as opposed to about 1000mah
But that doesnt matter in the slightest as i mostly charge overnight
that is great news! That does not look too difficult and it looks as NFC is not touched. Just the translation is difficult and not knowing what samsung wireless charging is about.
I also wonder how snug the fit is after adding the magnets from the touchstone back cover?
I will post details soon when i am back home

yes he did, i'm gonna try it with just tape - his solder blobs seems to be huge and because of the the cover makes this bulge... maybe then it will fit perfectly
the samsung wireless charger looks nice but i like the idea with the magnets of the touchstone!
please post pictures and a possible video. This is so interesting!
i'll do as soon i get the touchstone kit and have some spare time to do this (hopefully on sunday...)
what happens when you place an induction charging compatible device on an induction cooking range? Will it charge the battery, or will it overload the circuitry and destroy the phone\battery?
I wonder what happens when you plug in the phone with usb while it's inductively charging.

Sprint's backplate covers the inductive charging leads - Successful Mod!

Which is one feature i really would have liked.. but popping the back open, I see the two leads for NFC, but the two leads near the right side of the battery for inductive charging on the international version is not on the Sprint version.. sad panda face
-- UPDATE -- Successful mod
I had to order a Sprint specific backplate from ebay
So I got the Nexus Wireless Qi Charging Orb.. and I drilled two small holes in the spare Sprint backplate I had.. I then proceeded to use some copper foil, folded it up a few times, and placed them in the hole with the sticky part on the housing. I then made sure the bottom of the folded copper was down enough to make contact with the contacts on the motherboard. Closed it up and then placed the receiver in the holes with the copper foil. Placed on the Qi charger and boom.. Wireless charging..
I did it this way so I can replace the middle housing and it won't look like I modded the phone if I need to take it in for repair.. Also, I can charge it with the Seidio Surface case on.

I dont know but sprint really *ucked this model up if they would have left it alone like tmobile we would have been fine Im looking for a solution to the wireless charging but i dont know if its going to be possible all because sprint wants to be different and difficult. Ive been with sprint for 15 years but my patience is wearing thin.
Im still going to attempt a wireless fix though
whats this need yall help
Can someone help me, I dont have the phone yet so im trying everything in theory, to get wireless charging going. so I have questions!
What is this box
Whats the box for it doesnt look like nfc or a speaker or a microphone so Im hoping its tied to some sort of wireless charging, maybe a cover with the charging pins underneath (wishful thinking)
Personally I think wireless charging is overrated. There's a cable plugged in somewhere to get the pad going. And you can't use the phone while it's charging. Well, inconveniently you can. And it charges quicker via a cable.

Wireless charging confirmed working on our T-mobile S4

Hey guys, don't know if people have done this already, but I just got a T-mobile S4 for testing this weekend and I wanted to find out if the wireless charging port was enabled since I've done the touchstone wireless charging mod on my S3 and note 2.
It was especially a PIA on the note 2 since T-mobile, in all of its corporate and engineering wisdom, decided to disable the feature for the Note 2, even though it was enabled for the S3. So for those of you who don't like to dissemble your new phone and solder on a tiny PCB, you'll be happy to know that I confirmed that wireless charging ports on the S4 is indeed enabled.
I took a pack of 4x AAA battery assembly, which provides ~4.7v of DC power, and connected to the charging port in the back. The small pair on the left is the charging port, the pair on the right is supposedly NFC, even though the NFC antenna is located on the battery for S4.
As you can see from the pics, the "the phone is now charging wirelessly" notification pops up when the circuit is live, which is pretty annoying IMO and can't be disabled (that's why we have custom roms right?)
I haven't gotten a chance to install the actual touchstone wireless charging receivers on the back yet, as this is a test unit that I have to return, but I don't imagine this to be too different than on the S3. There will be a slight bulge, but it'll be worth it.

Just follow the instructions from this thread (it's for an S3). The design for S3 is pretty similar, so it should work. Remember the positive pin is on the left, negative (ground) is on the right.
Also note that the touchstone mechanism is not Qi compatible, so it wont work with the newer charging mats for Nokia or HTC.
And always remember to perform these mods at your own risk.

Did you install any receiver on the S4?
I didn't mean to confuse anyone, I only confirmed that it is POSSIBLE to perform the mod. I used a 4.7v DC power supply to test if the wireless charging pins on the back are live, which wasn't the case for T-mobile note 2 so I had to check to make sure.
If you already have a Qi charger, you can get one of these receivers and connect it to your phone, then you'll be able to charger with your mat
http://www.ebay.com/itm/qi-Wireless...l_Phone_PDA_Chargers&var=&hash=item51abef6de9
But I would argue that the touchstone method is superior to qi if you plan on using it in a car, as the magnets keep the phone in place is it's really convenient to connect/disconnect when you're driving.

Samsung will be officially supporting wireless charging for the S4 through accessories. The ad for the pad and back wireless charging cover is already listed on the promo S4 accessories page. http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxys4/
Though there seems to be no price or date yet.
Of course there will be 3rd party wireless charging solutions as well.

I have the photos set up and just need to put notes on them explaining what I did.
Will post them when I get home tonight (12am CT)
Ummmm, from everything I read the pins you have it hooked up to are NOT the ones for inductive charging, the gold ones on the right are......
I could be mistaken however. I remember the s3 used those pins, but I've read in a couple places that the ones made specifically for inductive charging are the ones on the right above the battery.

the smaller set is wireless charging, the larger set is presumably for additional NFC antenna (although I measured no resistance in the circuit with my voltmeter), as the back cover seemed to have a carved out area for a NFC like the Note 2 did.
Although the S4 battery says "NFC" on it, which seems like samsung made a last minute decision to put NFC on the battery instead of the back cover... oh samsung ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[Q] Wireless Charging Mod Question

I have been reading some very interesting posts about adding wireless charging capabilities to a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Although it seems like every mod requires a touchstone coil, which also requires a larger back cover. Browsing ebay I ran across a "patch" of sorts that goes between the case and the battery to add the inductive charging. I was wondering before I buy it and rip apart my beloved phone. Could I just solder the "patch" to the pogo pins on the side of the phone and would it charge? Or am I missing a component? Thanks in advance for any help!
On Ebay it is called "Qi Wireless Charger Charging Pad + Receiver Kit for Samsung Galaxy S4 S IV i9500"
Also this is my first post, so any comments would be helpful too!

That's what mods are all about, people have successfully mod the palm touchstone coil into their phone and it works flawlessly.
In theory this would work, but how OP are going to connect it to the pogo pins, that's another problem.
Beamed from my Grouper
Oho Thank you. it very good
Well I was thinking that if you take the phone apart there is a spot where the pogo plugs connect to the circuit board. I thought I could just solder a thin gage wire to the leads, but does that patch have the correct circuits to supply 5v with the right amount of amps?

Check the specs of the induction charger.
Anyway for the touchstone mod, others used a copper tape instead of a wire.
Beamed from my Maguro.
I have a s3 a couple of the s3 qi cards. I have my gnex as a backup and did the mod myself. If you peal the top label off the card around the pins you'll be able to desolder the s3 connector and solder a couple wires. I used a couple fine wires I removed from a old ide cable. I then used a dremel tool to cut a small rectangle under the battery door and behind the pogo pins to connect the wires. I used a very small cut off wheel, took my time, and cut shallow and never took the phone apart. The pins are easy to solder to and much safer. This did disable my pogo pins, but I have no dock so I don't care. I have the Samsung OEM 2000mah extended battery and back cover. This leaves me a small gap to lay my wires without any battery door bulge. My ditztronic case still fits perfect and the wireless charging works great. Its worth noting that the qi pad will provide around 600ma, which is fine since the dock pins charge in USB mode anyway.
BTW, while I think the safest and easiest way to get to the phone's circuitry is to cut that small hole, you are putting a dremel to your phone so I am in no way responsible if you somehow kill your phone.

I just got an S3, and was excited about the ability to use wireless charging. While looking for QI gear on eBay, I ironically stumbled across an item that will add that very same feature on my old SII, without any permanent hardware mod needed.
The item in question is this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200963522572?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
It's basically a QI charging inlay thing that has a very tiny microUSB connector, allowing you to connect it to essentially anything that charges via microUSB. I bought one just to try it out, and sure enough, it works like a charm with my old S II. I have a cheap (but great) TPU case on my S II, and the QI inlay fit absolutely perfectly between the case and the phone's actual back cover.
I used the SII for more than a year and a half, and I frankly hope that this was just invented a few weeks ago, as I hate to think that wireless charging for my S II was $16 away all that time >.<
Hey, *thanks* so much for this, it is just about exactly what i was looking for (and not able to track down on the net). Much appreciated and can't wait to try it out on my SGS2!
Where can I get the charging pad to lay it on? It's not in the link

QI is a standard. Throw a rock and you will hit a compatible charger : p
Thanks, this was very useful info.
Will it work with PowerMat charging pad or I need to buy new one?

great stuff, but what will i do if i need to charge it by cable?
With "Android Tuner Free" you can see the incoming mAh when charging (at battery stats).
With standard wallcharger from samsung I get ~640mAh
Does anybody got the incoming mAh stats about wireless charging?
Anyway, I think cable is better because you can move and use your phone.
