Heres one of my better ones, my best was actually over 26000Kbps. One issue I have however is I typically have horrible latency, with a ping over 1000ms. Anyone else getting similar bad ping issues?

When I ran some speed tests yesterday I did notice a couple odd ones over 1000ms PING still testing at ~20,000 ( kbps + / - 10%) while the rest were well under 100ms..:silly:
Isn't that where the LTE deployment should more consistently excel in latency & building penetration?:good:

Best so far at a friends house. Very strong signal

UL/DL Speed increase after update

Did anyone notice an UL/DL speed increase after the recent update? I noticed my speed is 3-8 times faster than before. I have included a screen shot of my results. I am amazed to say the least. I have never seen speeds this fast.
For me the UL speeds definitely have improved. On KID my phone would struggle to get better than .5-.75mbps down no matter where I was located. Where I work I am near a tower and the UL speeds seem to be the same as before, but my house is on the outskirts of town and would struggle to get better than 2-2.5mbps before and now it seems to be much better. Also, at work I usually get 3-4 bars and at home 2 bars (sometimes 3 but rare.)
Yeah I get 10 all over now instead of just 3-4

[Q] Charter 100mb and Nexus...something not right??

Ok, I have charters 100mb service at home with has a Belkin N150 router hooked up to it...I do lots of speed tests and rarely will I get over 25mb on my speed tests...Usually between 20-25. Shouldn't I be getting alot more than that? I realize I loose some speed going thru the router, but that much? Is there anything I can do to improve? Does this sound normal to you guys? Many thanks
P.S. The speed test numbers are done from my galaxy nexus

Usually its just my phone and my galaxy 10.1 tab, but they are never online at the same time.
I read somewhere on here that the wifi on the GNexus is not that great and wasn't all that fast, the LTE is usually faster. I may be wrong.
Do you live in a large apartment building with extremely crowded wifi channels? I know that my Gnex gets about 7 Mbps (36 Cable connection) on 2.4 GHz because it's so crowded. When I switch the router to 5 GHz it gets about 34 Mbps because those channels are empty.
I have 35/35 fios that actually hits 42/30 on the every single computer and laptop at home. I have NEVER gotten higher then 29 on my phone and like the OP I usually only get 20-25. Buff McBig (great name btw) What do get on speedtest with your phone on wifi can you post a screen?

Apparently I exaggerated because I can only average 29 or 30 and max at 32. That is with 3 devices all samsung. The others are gtab 10.1 and sprint gs2. My transformer prime can't connect to 5ghz.

every mobbile device is basically limited by its hardware, memory/cpu and throughput bottleneck. you cant get much higher than 30Mbps on the nexus as it's hitting hardware limits due to a mobile device.
thru the generations speedtest results have gone up though.

High ping on HSPA+

Hello,
When I do a test with the SpeedTest app, it gives me fast speeds (10~20mbps), but very high ping. I'm getting 500~700ms ping from using this app to connect to a server that is only 2 km away. I have tried other servers and gotten the same results.
When I ping google.com, I'm getting an average of 300ms.
I live in NYC, and the cell tower is actually very close, according to OpenSignal app. I see others getting 30~60ms times on T-Mobile HSPA, so this seems out of the ordinary.
I get normal ping times when connected to wifi.
Anyone know what is causing this?
I get it too its nothing to worry about I think its just a bug and not accurate sometimes. Nothing to worry about.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
I get it too. But I don't care b/c ping matters to me if I'm playing multiplayer games. I never play games on my S2 except on rare occasions. So long as I get my data, I am satisfied.

I get them all the time, and slow speeds so I'm not surprised..
Slow speedas as in 2000Mbps.
Mb, not MB.

No idea about the speed test app, but I don't think pinging google would result in a glitch. It seems there is a delay in loading websites as well.
I even get lower ping on EDGE....

That's odd.. thought I set it to Mbps..
It's an order down, so 2000 kbps.
Maybe it's because of where you live. Ping is how long it takes to speak with the outside servers, heavy congestion higher ping.
I live outside of Orlando and get 50 or less. With about 20mbps do speeds and over 2 up...

Underwhelmed by the Sprint Samsung E4GT (SPH-D710)

The firmware on my wife's SPH-D710 was just upgraded to FH13. Based on my reading here, that upgrade included an improvement to the 3G modem. If that is true, this is a pretty sad phone - let me explain.
I downloaded Speedtest to my phone, a 2+ year old HTC EVO and here phone. I then ran Speedtest on both. (Actually, it was much harder than that. The GPS on her phone was simply not working, and Speedtest thought I was near Wichita, not southeast Michigan. Even after rebooting to get the GPS working, Speedtest still thought I was hundred of miles form here. Fortunately, the second-to-last server listed overlapped with the servers listed on my phone.)
To be clear: I did one phone then the next. I turned off the WiFi and help both phones in the same location.
HTC EVO: Ping - 192 ms, download - 2531 kbps, upload - 612 kbps
Samsung E4GT: Ping - 173 ms, download - 1789 kbps, upload - 520 kbps
The only difference is that my phone is rooted and I am running AdFree, but that certainly cannot account for the huge difference in performance.
I was actually quite pleased with my wife's phone until I a) ran headlong into the very poor GPS performance and b) saw the poor modem performance. I understand now why HTC phones cost more...

I thought it was common knowledge that the antennas on the e4gt were a little weaker than most, that seems to be a common trend in Sammy phones. If you want strong antennas I'd recommend Motorolla, however the software on their phones is ****. Motoblur, bleh. Regardless, Samsung still makes the best phones on the market and smother everything else out right now. The S2 helds its title until the S3 came out, nothing tops a Sammy phone but another Sammy I believe the smooth performance and top of the line GPU/CPU/screen is a good trade off.
My apologies if this sounded like a troll message. My wife's phone is clearly faster than mine with regard to processing speed. This is clearly noticeable when updating apps. My post was more a matter of disappointment - why it should clearly excel in some areas but seem to fall flat on others, especially given that it is a much newer device.
I just downloaded and installed Quadrant Standard on both phones. My perceptions were correct - the Samsung is MUCH faster than the EVO. So, again I ask/wonder, why the much slower 3G speed and poor GPS performance?

Your Samsung radio is not going to do better than the HTC radio, first and foremost you have to accept that. Then you can move on to trying out other modems in an attempt to improve signal and download/upload speeds.
There's a LONG list of them that have been released since back in February; you'll find the downloads for each in a stickied post in the development. It doesn't matter what kernel or ROM you are running, you can swap out modem builds at will. If one doesn't work, flash another but always make sure you update profile & PRL after each flash and before running any sort of speed tests.

Happy flashing!

Fh13 is battery improvements, if you update your prl that will help with download speeds. There are way to many variables for data speeds to get reliable info. 1.7 mbs download is damn good on 3g, I wish I got those speeds, I get .5 MBS if I'm lucky in Sacramento, ca. So anyway unless you have one of the lte phones that Sprint offers there is no better phone then the S2. And those phones are by no means leaps and bounds ahead of this one.

Thanks for the feedback. I am not an expert with regard to these matters and had assumed that a) the the newer phone would have a faster modem than the older one and b) the download speeds I recorded were not out of the ordinary. My expectations have been reset and I will enjoy her phone (when I can) for what it does well.
Those speed differences are small, I don't think you will notice. Also the faster processor will probably still load Web pages faster even with the slightly lower network speeds.

For those who have been kind enough to reply: I finally rooted the phone today and reran the test. Post root, the results are:
Samsung E4GT: Ping - 161 ms, download - 2339 kbps, upload - 641kbps
These values are essentially the same as the HTC - no complaints.
Wow really? A thread whining about 1.7mb on 3g... That's f'in good speed for 3g.. There's plenty of us who can't even get past the kb's. Go get yourself an Evo and enjoy your HTC reloading screen...

You'll find there is a whole lot to love about this phone and with the amazing developers in this forum your choices for customization are endless. Getting rid of my E4GT was one of the hardest things I've done (as far as my gadgets are concerned) but I'm also enjoying the SGSIII.

You have to understand something, network speeds tests are not exactly reliable measures. If you want comparable measurements, you have to run multiple tests on the 2 phones using the identical server at the same time. Then you average the tests. Otherwise, what you have is one data point, testing from a server at different times. So one point may have been when server was less loaded, or the network was less loaded. And even then, your original tests were close enough that you would not notice it, and to be "underwhelmed" just because of that is silly.
Root has absolutely nothing to do with data speeds. What accounted for the improvement is most likely a decreased load on the server or Sprint's network. I have seen much more variation than that on my own phone, simply by testing at different times of the day.
worrying about a 500 k difference on what appears to be pretty great 3g(remember, some sprint users get literally 100kbps) seems kinda bourgeois. how much faster do you need your porn to download?

Anyone else have WiFi issues?

Anyone have subpar WiFi speeds on this phone? I can't even get through a YouTube video. It buffers every 20-30 seconds or so.
I ran speedtest and it only got around 3mbps down. Then I ran some tests and it was around 12mbps down.
My S5 consistently gets 17-18mbps down. My u-verse Internet is rated at 18mbps down.
Anyone else? Defective unit?
i have the same iusse with the WiFi
Mine was getting 18 down and up when I ran speed test last night.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
I get 40mb which is inline with my ipad.
Hmm so maybe a defective unit?
maybe we need to wait for a update that fix this iusse.
I am getting super slow speeds. I'm only getting around 4-5 down and 20 up and I have 2 of them doing the same exact thing. Both my old Note 3's and my S4 active are pulling 15-20 down and 18-20 up every time.
So, I may have figured out my particular problem. My u-verse Internet and TV services both died today. That is where my wonky speeds were coming from.
At my gf's parents right now and they have the same u-verse service that I have. Getting 22 down and 2 up. Which is normal for their package.

Im geting 17ms ping, 30.90 MBPS downloads, and 54.10 uploads...my iPad gets higher downloads...not sure why but 30.90 seems ok....not mindblowing fast..but decent enough.

So I just did the same test on an iPad air that I have connected to the same network. On that Im getting 52.93 download, 62.59 upload and 12ms pings...so not so great on the note 4 compared to the iPad air..both have wifi turned on.....so at this point I guess they need to do some work on their wifi connections...dont know if an update will help the situation or not.
I haven't experienced any issues myself.
