Thanks, I was wondering where the Flashlight feature was.
I was wondering if someone could set-up a unique flashlight feature for the Note II:
Whenever I need the flashlight, it's never when I'm using my phone, so I always need to unlock the phone and activate the flashlight. With my HTC phones, I just put the flashlight app on the lock screen, so it didn't take too long to unlock and go. Without a flashlight app, it got me thinking - let me know if this feature idea is possible on the SGN2:
"When the phone is locked, if the pen is removed, the LED light will shine for a preset-time (max 1-2 minutes - no burn-out/battery drain) before shutting off. This will be a back-up warning to prevent lost pens if the phone locks without the pen in-place. Most importantly, if you need an emergency light, you can simply slightly dislodge the pen from it's slot - then pop-it back in when you've found what you're looking for to turn-off the light."
Just an idea - I'd appreciate the functionality...

Use Tiny Flashlight + LED. It's bright, the assistive light widget is bogus.

Arc LED Notification light.

I thought the Arc had a notification light on the Battery charging light but cannot find the settings in the menu & when i get a message via gmail, there is no light just a notification in the bar??? Does anyone else get a flashing light if so any idea where the settings are.
Cheers
Just did another test & the led light does flash. But when you press the power or home key (which displays the lock screen) the led stops flashing which is silly as you can easily press the home key in your pocket.
Is there anyway to leave the led light flashing until you swipe & unlock the phone, or to disable waking up the phone by pressing the home key.
i think Led always stop flashing after the screen comes on. This was also on my nexus. didn't com across something to keep it flashing while the screen comes on.
Anyways i don't like the led location, i never see it.

Agree Stupid place to put it, but at least it has one unlike LG & Samsung phones. hope it is possible to stop the phone from waking by pressing the home key though.
I want programmable notification lights like the X1 had.
My X1 still works, but it lacks any decent software to make it work well.
I love it! I ordered a PDAir case with a cutout for the light so I can see it witout taking it out of the case.
Anyone tried Light Flow app?
I hope we can use the lights of the buttons under the screen as notifications too

Would be very nice to have the option for the 2 lights in between the 3 front buttons to flash with notifications aswell.

This was exactly what i was thinking of, it would be great.
That would be BackLight Notification (BLN) it exists for samsung phones that doesn't have a LED.
But it needs a modified kernel to work. So we have to wait for SE to unlock the bootloader and someone to adapt the kernel for bln to work.
It's possible in a cyannogen mod rom under led setting... we'll have to wait for custom roms to use it that way..

At 3:00 Minutes.
has anyone found a way to make the 2 LED lights work for notifications?
Any news on this topic? Will it be possible without rooting the device?
Would be perfect if I can use the front-leds of the device for notifications.

NoLed apk

I installed the apk NoLed from GooglePlay (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lt#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sZWQubm90aWZ5Il0.) and i think it is a fantastic apk as we donĀ“t have a regular notification led as others phones.
How does this work exactly does it prevent your phone from going to sleep? What about the Lock screen? Do you have to remove the lock screen to see this?

You have lots of options to configure the apk, when i receive email (gmail) my phone vibrate, make a sound and the screen blinks an small mail icon, all black, just the icon. You can set how long it will blink, can also ajust the proximity sensor to not show the icon when the phone is in you pocket, and so on.
Too much to tell, install and try.
Seems good!
Thanks
The app is quite good, very customizable, but it drains too much battery. Energy saving options are not enough.
Sadly uninstalled.

Are you referring to with even no notifications active? Or with notifications active?
For me, it doesn't seem to bad, though overall batter drain is like 10% over 10 hours, sleeping with nothing else active.
Can't say.. if i get a text, or just a whatsapp notification or anything else, my battery is drained when i take it back. I don't say that battery is halved, but it is still a remarkable loss.
This is why we need BLN. BLN should use a lot less juice as it is only a small LED and not a big screen. Hopefully someone will modify the ICS kernel and we will get it.

From what you said, i'm assuming you totally has no idea how (AM)OLED screens works, so let me give you a fast walktrough.
On most mobile phones you can see TFT-LCD based screens. These screens uses a background (white) light trough the entire screen surface, this light is first polarized then secondly filtered. This filter is controlled by the electronic, witch results how it blocks or let's trough the way of the background light, resulting the picture what you see on the screen.
However the LED screens, including OLED and AMOLED screen are rather different from the above.
Each pixel on the screen is one tiny independent light source, aka. a Light Emitting Diode.
When the question comes to power consumption, from the above you can see that the TFT-LCD has a relative constant power consumption, because the backlight always has to be on, even if the entire screen shows black.
As for LED displays, only those areas uses power, witch actually emits light, in other words: the pixel/screen area is else then full black.
This is the reason why "use as much black as possible" is mostly suggested for this kind of screen, because if the less leds emitting light, the less the power consumption are.
for further informations please read:

this is a must have... if u don't have an led and amoled and from what iv'e seen it isnt a battery hog...
I've tried the BLN app, and it didn't work for me. Has anyone gotten it to work on the glide?

I think the BLN pro app would be able to achieve the blinking. You have to buy it though.

Lock screen coming on with notifications

How do I make the lock screen not turn on when I get a notification?
Sent my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue with text messages. I don't my screen coming on with every message. I will look for a solution.
I gave up and installed my third party messaging app and disabled the notifications of stock app. Screen no longer turns on. I know it isn't the best solution but it works.
I put a pattern lock on my phone. The screen still comes on when I get a text but it times out and shuts off in about 5 seconds. Pattern lock just ensures that I don't pocket dial by accident while the screen is on.

I have downloaded light flow lite. It has a toggle to have the screen light up or not. Fixes the issue plus you can set custom colors for the notifications.
Light Flow Lite
If anyone is interested, I was able to de-odex the SMS program, make the necessary changes, and re-odex it, and my screen no longer turns on for new text messages. I tried lightflow and it did not work for me. I don't know if a zip of the apk and odex are sufficient, I am new to modifying apks.

Stock Flashlight camera post Marshmallow update

The "new" flashlight application in the marshmallow update is rubbish. The old one had the ability to regulate brightness using the volume rocker and turn the ligh on and off using the power button.
The new one is
- laggy (it takes a while after you turn on the light on screen and it turns actually one)
- doesn't turn on light when the app starts
- power button turns off screen but not the light
- exiting the app doesn't turn off the light
While some of those feature might be useful it really is a major change to the original one. That one was very simple to use and swift in it's response.
Is there any way to get the apk for the original one? Been trying some other flashlight apps in the store but most of it is ad ridden crap.
any tips are greatly appreciated
Could not agree more, tried to download the old one and it just crash. Whoever's idea is this, should get fired.

[APP] NotifyBuddy - Notification light when screen is off

Just download it on the Playstore NotifyBuddy. The app developer XanderApps made an amazing simple app to bring back a simple and beautiful notification light when the screen is off. Easy to configure, allow all the permissions, pick the apps you want it to show the light for, choose a color, and that's it. You can tinker with the settings for the duration of the blink, how long it takes to blink again, and how long it blinks for, which is a big one for me because other apps do not let it go for very long from what I've seen. The developer also said that there is screen in burn protection built-in! The only thing is AOD settings get disabled when there is a notification as well as screen-off fingerprint unlock and a double tap of the screen is needed to wake the phone up, or alternatively press the power button.
No notification light is an issue I had found with the note 10 + coming from the Note 8 and this is resolved for the most part
Lemmi know what you guys think about it !
Does it work with AoD?

Did you guys read what OP wrote?
And from yesterday (or i have not noticed it earlier) when the display goes dark, it shows a message that no pictures are selected (however i have no picture-style aod choosen)
Only works if i press the power button on my s10+ any ideas why?
Holy crap, I wish I could have found this a long time ago. It actually works on my Note 10 plus. Shows notification on top left when screen is off[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

Haven't logged in in awhile but it can be used with or without edge lighting. I just tested with a 15 second delay (found in the notify buddy settings) and it works.
Have a nice day !
I like the idea of it but I don't like that it doesn't work as well there like when I plug in the charger it doesn't allow the display to turn off until I manually do it
Hmmm, I just tried on my Note10 plus. Plugged in charger, screen timed out at the 30 seconds I have it set to time out, charging led was present.
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Fingerprint unlock doesn't seem to work unless you tap the screen to wake and then fingerprint unlock. Also the position seems to change slightly every time the notification blinks. I was putting it around the camera hole and the first blink is perfect around the camera but then the others are off to either side with each blink. Once these are fixed and I make sure there's no battery drain, I would probably buy the premium version.
