Did you guys get the 50 gig dropbox? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am getting the Note 2 on Tuesday, I was wondering if Tmobile or Samsung offered the 50 gig dropbox space for 2 years with the purchase of Note 2.
Thanks
Eccoo

I didn't know we were going to get the 50GB of storage until yesterday. Yes I got mine.

log in to Dropbox on the phone. you'll get an email asking you to confirm you want the 50GB's a few minutes later. complete that process and you are good to go.
keep in mind, the offer doesn't stack. so if you did it once with the SGS3 you can't do it again.

Wonder what happens to all your data after a year and you lose the 50GB and go back to your old quota?

the 50G is for two years. I think dropbox sends you a warning before, they won't delete your data without notifying you.

what i've read the account goes read only. I don't think it will flat out delete all the data. I'm not aware how long it will let you stay in that limbo however.
(IE, using the 'read only' account to stream movies over and over again). i would imagine at some point it will start deleting after you've accessed it enough.)

If your paid account expires or is downgraded, or the space granted to your account by a promotion expires, all of the files in your Dropbox folder will still be available to you on your computers, phones, and via the Dropbox website. However, Dropbox will only sync the amount of space allotted to your Dropbox account. This means that new files added to your Dropbox will not sync to other computers or be available online until the amount of disk space used in your Dropbox drops below the amount of Dropbox space allotted to your account.

This is a great promotion for people. Id almost rather have the big dropbox account than an sd card slot. All my stuff lives on there, and unlike the iPhone it becomes a whole other usable drive with your PC. The options are near endless especially if you get dropsync going, automatically transferring your media and such. Best cloud service there is.

Only downside is if you don't have a signal or data, then you don't have access to your files. What I don't understand is everyone asking about the 32GB variant of this phone. Why not just buy a 16GB version and buy a 32GB or 64GB microSD card for under 50 bucks and call it a day. It's the beauty of having an SD slot on the phone, unlike the Iphone or the LG Nexus.
Or am I missing something? Which is quite possible.

Because people need more than 16GB + 64GB.
As for Dropbox's expiration date of two years, I'm sure most of us will upgrade to another phone by then that will probably offer 50 to 100GB of free dropbox space.

Im still waiting on mine from the s3 ... well i got it then they took it back . Anyway i received the email today opened it . Still waiting

Why Drop Box?

Honest question.. You only get 2 gigs for free.. With just Box you get 5 gigs free.. and they have random promotions.. For like every person you invite to box you get a gig free or storage up to 16 gigs worth.. and random huge promotions.. I got 50 gigs free lol.. and titanium backup uses it also.
Why do all of you use drop box? box is way better
Box limits the upload size on free accounts to 100mb, unless u managed to get the promo of either a 200mb upload limit or got lucky like me and got a 1gb limit. If i didn't have the 1gb limit I wouldn't use it as much since I have box.net and minus accounts plus I had a drop box account but it's only got 2.5gb of storage, on box I have 55gb and minus I have 13gb so really have no use for dropbox

I have 8.5gb free space on dropbox...you get 250mb for every referred person up to 8gn...still don't know how I got 8.5. Convenient syncing, TB also uses it [not that I use it]. Unlike box, my upload size isn't limited, nor my link availability.

Dropbox is seamless, with all devices, great LAN sync for PCs, and also many third party apps use dropbox ie phone to chrome app/extension.
Plus lifehacker endorses it heavily so it has a wide following. Shrug.

well.. i'm 30, i've been using various programs and technology and whatnot for a long time. i went back to school recently to finish a bfa in motion capture and computer graphics. they used to use the internal server to store files from motion capture shoots and various projects, which sometimes got erased because IT and students had access to them. i suggested that we use dropbox because its very easy, and integrates so well, and only the class has access to it. we now make drop box accounts for each class/project, and all files are distributed accordingly. its very easy. thats really what it boils down to. the file limit is also good, because there isn't one. the school ended up paying for accounts to have large files accessible and thats what we use because of it.
its really cool to be able to access it from our phones, home computers, and school, without having to do anything other than log in. that's probably why its popular. i know there's other services available, but none are as easy to work with, and when a university is paying the bill, you can get whatever you want, and it works extremely well. plus, i personally installed the beta and did some media uploads and got 15gb for free, which is kinda cool. i really don't use that much of it because its mainly my work files for my job, just so i don't have to carry around a drive or worry about losing or forgetting a thumb drive, but its very useful. between phonemypc and dropbox, i always have access to anything i could ever need. esp when i forget something at home and i'm at work, and i have to log in to my computer from my phone, and do a copy/paste into my dropbox, and have my files accessible 2 minutes later. that's saved my ass i don't know how many times.

Drop box did it come with free storage ?

Can anyone tell me if you get the same 50gb drop box for 2 yrs as you do on the s3 ?

I'm not sure that the extra GB from the S3 and the Note 2 will stack, as they're both from Samsung and such.
And also, it's technically 48gb extra (As you get 2gb to start with, in Dropbox, which puts it up to 50gb)

IM hoping it will and im sure people have ended up with stupid amounts of storage by getting the offers however I wont be dissapointed if not I have 55gb of storage
Mind you if it does work and im getting the note 10.1 this week also with the same offer could be 155gb of storage !!!!!!!
will report back
i got free size upgrade
about a week or two ago, i got an e-mail that said something about samsung dropbox upgrade. i don't have a samsung device. (have always had HTC phones and recently got an Asus Transformer prime). so i thought i would try it. i clicked the link in the email, it then took me to the dropbox site and asked for my login details. i did it and it upgraded my 2gb account which was full to 56 Gb.
The next day i click the link in the e-mail again and logged in with my other dropbox account and did the same thing.
thanks drop box.
When i get my note on Friday, wonder if i will then have 100GB?????
I already have a paid for dropbox account, and it didnt give me any more storage. Im guessing if id setup a new account id have got the extra 48 gigs...
I got already the space boost from S3 and did not receive any additional space when setting up the Dropbox account at my Note 2.

I received this offer once for my Galaxy Note 10.1, BUT! didn't with Note II. I think they will not give you additional 50GB for each device you purchase & to the same account credentials. I do not want actually to make a new drop box account as it will not show the contents of my original one on all my devices which is why i am using drop box! Very strange, i paid money for each device, thus i deserve the bonus for each one!
its only for 2 years anyways, im not sure ill be happy to download all 50gb and upload to another site after the 2 years - not bad if the data isnt too important.
You only get one lot of 50GB space for 'samsung devices' so if you own a s3 and a Note 2 (or 10.1 note) you will only get 50gb not 100gb or 150gb

Does anyone know what happens when that period ends? Do you at least get to choose which files you get to keep on your free storage?
Yes.
If u have note 2, or note 10.1, u will get it.
But...
Some devs on note 1 also succeed to give rom which can give u extra 50gb on ur dropbox.
I flash a rom on my friend note 1, and he got the 50 gb.

Quick Office Free (Thanks 2 Google)

FREE UNTIL 9/26/2013
From now through Sept. 26, you have the opportunity to score an extra 10GB of Google Drive space, no extra charge.
The requirement: Install the new Quickoffice app for Android or iOS--which, incidentally, is also now free. Then sign into your Google account via that app. Presto! You get another 10GB of gratis storage.
Google recently purchased Quickoffice, and the fruits of their labor have finally bloomed. The app is now being offered for free for both Android and iOS, so you can do your document creation and editing without paying a cent.
Best of all, if you download the app, you can get 10 extra gigabytes of Google Drive storage for free! Sign in with your Google account in the app by September 26 and you’ll receive that 10GB for two years. Don’t expect to see it immediately; Google says it’ll be added to your account in the next few weeks.

Enjoy....

Well, it is not free UNTIL 26.9.13, it is free without restriction, only that extra 10GB you can claim until 26.9.13. Also "recently" is very inaccurate, Google bought it more than 1 year ago.

No, I did not lost you, buddy. Let see:
"FREE UNTIL 9/26/2013" ... definitely not true, it will be free without restriction, that means also AFTER that date.
"Google recently purchased Quickoffice,..." ... also not true, at least I think "recently" should be maybe couple of months max, not more than a year in this case. In this case is June 2012.
from your last post "But it's now being announced that's it's available for free until the 26 of Sept." ... also not true, it will be free without restriction (as I already told).
You are only right about that until 26.9 you should get free space.
Also, I see what did you probably mean with "FREE UNTIL 9/26/2013" now, you were talking about that free space. But from the context of subject of this topic it was not clear.
But nevermind, Happy QuickOfficing for everybody.

Ok. Thanks. Not sure why you got 48GB, but it's close enough to 50 that I won't complain either way.
I also got 48GB. Technically, when combined with the 2-some-oddGB that dropbox gave me from the start, it ends up being like 50.7GB total, so maybe that's why they say "Get 50GB of Dropbox free!" I mean, after all, 50GB is such a nicer number than 48.

I'm glad this promo is still active, as the 50GB from my ATT SGS3 "hack", was due to expire in the summer of 2014, but this'll extend it to the end of 2015, by which time 50GB should be the new minimum free amount of cloud storage anyway.
edit: fwiw, I also used the "virtual machine MAC address hack" (google it) to get another 20GB free, so I've got a total of 70GB for free (which is the max you can get afaik).

Same here, FWIW.
The 50GB that I got from my SGS3 is expiring June 2014, and the 50GB that I was supposed to get from my Note3 (during setup) was neither added to my current 70GB quota nor did it reset my expiration date.
Perhaps the way it works is that since the promos don't stack, then when one Samsung dropbox promo expires, the next one -- still hidden -- begins? In any case, it would be nice to have the confusion cleared up, so that I don't have to reupload after reactivating on my Note3 next summer.

That's why you pre-encrypt stuff you want to keep secret. I use encfs locally, and periodically sync it to various places like my VPS and DropBox, but others use TrueCrypt, gpg, etc.
As far as photos, I don't care if Agent P can see 'em, so I Dropsync 'em after I've deleted the crappy/blurry ones. (I'd sync with the official DropBox app, but it's dumb, in that won't delete the crappy/blurry ones you've deleted off your phone, so you'd have to do it twice).
My friend purchased a Note 3, but does not plan to use Dropbox. Is the Dropbox credit transferable? I would like to get it from him.
I read the FAQ at Dropbox (reference: https://www.dropbox.com/help/297/en) and it is stated, "The first Dropbox account that signs in to the app on the device will get 48 GB of free space." I'm thinking I can just sign in with my account on his phone, get the 48GB of storage immediately, then sign out. If he wants to create his own account, that should be fine. Is my assumption correct? Thanks.
Thanks!
Vic
When I first set up my phone, ti did the "log into dropbox for the extra space". I did it all but never got it. I did however have 50 gigs from when I bought my S3 a year and a half ago. Would that have stopped it from applying or would it have applied anyways?

I'm in the exact same boat as you, but no one knows. Guess we'll find out next summer when our S3's 50GB expires or auto renews from our Note3 setup promo

Same here. Still have my 50 from my S3 and I got 25 from something else, I forget (maybe HTC). I wonder if we'll ever be able to use our Note 3 promo since it wasn't added to our DB acct??? I've heard there was a max of 100, not sure if thats true or not but makes sense.
