[Buyers Remorse] Paid $710 for Note 2 and seeing the Nexus 4 selling for $350.... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just hoping to get some thoughts for or against the note 2 in regards to the press release regarding the nexus 4 with very similar specs going to sell for $350 out of contract.
I have to say my mind was blown, to have official updates as they roll out, and being able to have a large library of roms to choose from is a major selling point for me.
Looking to possibly keep the note 2, but I really am on the edge of my seat... thoughts about nexus 4/note 2 would be greatly appreciated.

I paid the same as you and I have no regrets. The Nexus looks to be an awesome device but the Note 2 is in its own category - are you forgetting that? And do I have to remind you about our amazing 5.5" RGB screen? I repeat, no regrets! I frickin love this thing.

Great specs and price on the nexus 4. I thought it would run about $450 at least for the phone with those specs.
I haven't got my note 2 yet but I am seriously considering getting the nexus 4 instead.

It is a beautiful screen, cant deny that Im just having trouble digesting the fact I could buy both the tablet and the phone for under $700... I could even eat the $50 restocking fee and still afford both... :/
Does anyone know where the cost are going?
Are devs jumping on the Equinos bandwagon?

I am thinking about the same thing. I love the screen and size, but I am not a fan of the smooth back. It feels like I am about to drop it bc its so slippery. I feel as if I am holding a priced possession rather than a phone. I have noticed myself being extra careful bc of the back and I don't want that. I wish the back had some kind of traction for grip. I am seriously thinking about returning this and buying a Nexus 4. And don't forget we can get a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 10 for what we paid for note 2.

I personally am going to try to push the return policy till almost the last day (14 days) So I can hear some early reviews on the nexus 4. I dont mind sticking with the note 2, but the true multi-tasking feature has not even been released yet (patiently waiting for samsung to update, never done that before)..... and that was kind of a huge setback for me.

Yes, you can buy both devices for less than $700 but then of course you have two devices. If that does not matter to you, I say go for it. I sold my iPad and GS3 to downsize to a single device. So far I am loving it.

btw IF I do decide to return the note 2, I am sure as hell going to miss the pop out video player. I am in love with that.

LG... lol after my g2x I learned my lesson. No thanks. Even if they paid me

I bought it off-contract as well, at full price, but I still think it's only 14 days.

The S-Pen should be a major factor when buying a Note 2. If you are simply using it as a phone or web browser, I think your original purchase of a Note was the problem. If you paid $700 for a product that will help you be more productive, then it's money well spent. If you paid $700 for a toy... not sure what that makes your money, just know it's not well spent.
Notes are productivity investments, tis why the Note 1 still sells for well over $500 new. If you define the word "need" for yourself, you will never have to worry. (side note, the current Nexus can't be beat when it comes to Dev support, and it's cheaper still... so there's that)

I'm actually very surprised at the high amount of people from this forum, that jumped so fast on the note 2 before Google announced what they were bringing out. ( official specs, not speculation)
The question is..... Is removable memory, bigger screen, spen, worth double, not to mention the wireless charging?
I have a g tab 2.7, and like Samsung.
I do miss the amoled screen of my N1 though.

I just wish I could buy a Nexus type back cover. Something with a little grip. I don't use/need cases, just need a back cover with grip. Is that too much to ask? lol

Would you do this trade for your Nexus?

I know a guy in real life, he is offering me a Galaxy Note in exchange for the Nexus and $100. I am really one the fence. I like the phone, but it might be a bit too large, would you do this deal?

Have both devices. If you can cope with the size its a great day device overall. But Nexus is a Google phone meaning you get updates faster. Note you have to wait for Samsung to release their source

So you would have to pay him $100 to get the Note? No chance. What makes the Note worth $100 more than the Nexus? Samsungs amazing TouchWiz UI or their lazy update procedure?
Phone for phone without any payment could be acceptable for someone who is ok with that.
But then I wouldn't even take the Note if he was paying me $100, so I'm biased.
Nope , don't do it ..
Now if the $100 wasn't in the picture then it would be a decision worth thinking about or if he was giving you the $100 =P
Stick with the Nexus

Yes @ above. I would be giving him $100 and my Nexus. It's funny I even though I own the Nexus I already bought another replacement for this phone. This is why I am exploring selling/trading it.

Straight up trade or nothing and that's only if you think you could find use out of the Note. I know quite a few store owners who love it especially for their online sales as they can just take pictures of products and doodle on it and send it out to prospective customer.
My father's colleague, who's a Apple guy, switched to a Note also for simply one reason; He could have the text large enough to use it without his glasses on .
There are use cases for the Note for sure, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it like most on here would .
On that note, I wouldn't use one personally as again, it doesn't fit my use cases.
Don't do it, especially if you like rooting and such.
Not sure Samsung ironed out the brick bug, but it's not the device to have if you want to run anything other than stock. Even doing a factory reset was bricking them. Ridiculous.
I wouldn't do it either. Just because something retails for more money doesn't mean it is actually worth more. Then Nexus is a better phone, period.
SGN is a super nice gadjet , but Nexus is the most compatible with android , if it was me , I'll *****slap him with his 100 buks and keep my phone. but this is me, maybe you have a different opinion
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
He should be paying you $100 plus the note to begin with, if you do it not only has he ended up with the better phone but he's robbed you $100 , just because the note retails for more new doesn't mean its the better device, look at the iPhone for example its inferior to the nexus but still costs more.
Keep your Nexus, it's still the backbone of Android.

When i thought to buy a new phone, the first on the line was the Note. So i went to stores do "meet" it. First look, i feel disconfortable by its size and start looking other phones, so i saw the Nexus and it was love at the first sight. When i held it in my hand, i knew that i´ll be my phone.
It fits perfectly.
Today i think that if i bought the Note i was regret. Not only because the size, but the OS updates and customizations.
Keep your Nexus and be happy for the rest of it´s days.
(sorry for the english)
Keep your Gnex and the $$$ , add 99 more and get the nexus7.
So you ll be complete

the galaxy s3 you mean I'm sure, the galaxy 3 is a budget phone..
Iwouldn't even trade for the s3 personally, I love this phone
I have both and if its the ATT version its worth it. The dev support over there isnt bad and once you get used to the size, which I did very quickly, I don't even use the nexus anymore as the screen is so much more vibrant. Just slap on an AOSP rom and it turns the note into a great phone/tablet.

In my opinion the only S3 worht having is the international version as the US versions have been nerfed as they usually are by us carriers.
As to the OP keep your Nexus, I have friends who have the Note and they love it but development on it is nonexistant in comparison to the Nexus, heck my old Vibrant has more development going on right now.

N4 got backed ordered so got a Note

So I ordered a Nexus 4 on launch day to find out the next day it was placed on back order for 3 weeks. I saw the samsung sale and ordered a Note 2 with 200 rebate and 20 instalment plan. Thinking about completly cancelling my pre order status on N4 since Note should arrive in three days. What do you guys think? Also this is my fith phone this year I think I have an addiction problem. Went from a S2, Att Note unclocked with unstable blaze modem, galaxy nexus and finaly to my current S3.

The only problem with the Note 2 is you will be stuck with it for a year. I probably buy 3 phones a year, because there is always something better coming out soon. But not when you own this phone. This will probably be the best phone till the Note 3 comes out.

Yeah I was contemplating real hard about selling the Note 2 and getting me a nexus but after lurking on the nexus forums and all the complaints and the lack of external storage (not to mention it maxes out on 16GB) coupled with non removable battery, it was a good thing i didn't jumped ship.

Ive been checking out the N4 and have read about issues but then again a nexus is a nexus and main reason i wanted it was because it allways has the latest like my old GNexus.
Lol I was having the same thoughts untill I saw that smart dock. But than alot is missing in N4 so Note 2 is the best right now.
But I did order 2 N4s gave one to wife overseas and sold one on ebay for 549

The biggest thing about the Note 2 is it does everything that every other phone does, just at different levels. And it does more.
The Nexus 4 and even the HTC DNA do this or that better, but not everything a Note can do. Simply put, the Note 2 is a complete package.
thanks for the input guys, my intial plan before the n4 was releases or leaked was to get n2 as my main device and have a secondary back up smaller phone like a lumina 820 for when i didnt need a big phone. Hospice care - i normally associate that with only one thing?
I have the S 3 (which I may gift down to a family plan member on an Mt4G) an now the Note 2. I got it since overall it may be the best device out there - the Note pen was an extra. I would be a bit happier if its size was between where it is and the S 3 - it is a pocketful - lol.
I agree with the other poster - it also might keep me away from another new phone for an extended period..
yea that was one of the reason i was debating of geting the n2 because of size. I had the original note and it was pretty weired holding it against ur ear i wonder if the n2 is slighty better since its not as wide.
My buddy ordered n4.. imho.. sucks. Kg blew it again. Not as smooth as note2.. and definitely not as many features

2 Note 2 or not?

It may seem like a game of words but I have always liked note 2 as a cross device between a phone and a tablet, which actually are my real needs.
However I like open devices like our nexus. I could sell my nexus for 280 dollars, which I bought for 560 a year ago. A mint note 2 is about 500 USD.
So tempted, but such a loss of money. Needs some advice and suggestions guys. What would you do ?
For that money you could practically buy any phone in 2 months. Do you really need a large one like Note 2 ? I'd go for a HTC One, when the prices drop a bit.
Just a rumor but after reading these specs you might be convinced to wait a little while longer:

Hey guys,
My wife currently has the first generation note (i717). It's been having all kinds of problems and we are thinking of getting her a new phone. She wants to get the Note 2. I've heard really good things about it, but I don't want to buy this if the note 3 is going to be coming out soon, you know?
What do you guys think? Also, we are going to be buying it full price and it's still $800, which kinda sucks. Is there a cheaper place to buy it from?

I had the note 1 before and recently switched to the Note 2 (rogers/at&t version). I'm loving it. Everything is so much snappier with pretty much 0 lag. I got my Note 2 for $370 used and thought it was a steal so did it. A slight ding on two corners but with the UAG case i ordered, shouldn't be noticeable. Oh and the stylus is much more comfortable in the hand with the Note 2. The reduction in width also makes it much nicer to hold and use with one hand.
With the note 3 coming in a few months the price for Note 2 is going to keep going down. I can't imagine really needing anything more powerful than the Note 2 for the next 2 years.

Does anyone have a comparison of the HTC one and the note 3? I would love to know as I might be switching. It won't be my first Samsung I had the s2, s3, note2. The only thing I did not like about the note 2 was the screen resolution but since this is a 1080p display it should look awesome.

I had the same choice but the back part of the g2 really bothered me. Also I just love the note 3 keyboard now that they finally added auto correct.

You can see in my signature I had the S4, Htc One and the LG G2, as far as the latter two devices ask me anything you want. The only two things I loved about the One was the look and feel of it and I liked the Sense UI with Blinkfeed. The G2 was a really cool phone, the knock knock feature is sorely missed after getting used to it for 2 weeks. The rear buttons are not too bad but it really is simpler and easier to have them where Samsung puts them, btw the One power button is a pain in the butt and there being only two buttons instead of 3 down below was just stupid.
So I really liked the G2 but in the end I had to return it because when wearing my polarized sunglasses the screen was impossible to see, also in certain ligt and angles I could see a grid of dots all along the screen. Lastly there was too much lag both playing games and simply scrolling around in settings. SO I revise my list to the Note 3 is number one, the Htc One number 2 and the G2 would be my 3rd choice, now if the Sony Z Ultra were out it would most likely be 2nd choice since it has no flash and if the One Max were available then it might just be first but its not.
Lastly G2 will likely see updates a year after the Note 3 and development will be much slower but most of its problems for most users can't be addressed by development, either you like the button placment or not, either you like on screen navigation controls or you don't and either you wear polarized sunglasses and use your phone while doing so at certain angles or you don't lol.
Me I like to use a phone with stock launchers and the features that the maker put on it otherwise might as well just buy the Nexus device of the year or Google editions, if a phone needs a replacement launcher and an ASOP rom just to be tolerable then whats the point?
im thinking abt buying either the LG Optimus G Pro or the note 3. which do u think is better and why?

Note 3.
The G Pro compares better against the Note 2 not the 3, aside from having a higher pixel count and same resolution it is inferior in every other way. Every edge it had on the Note 2 it no longer has on the 3 and the new Note only compounds its advantage with newer internals, higher specs, looks, camera, etc.

ur right.. gonna wait a little longer for the note 3 price to drop a bit before i buy it.
If you traded your S4 for the Note 3, how much did the TMobile store give you for the S4 as trade in. Thinking about doing this later today.

Thanks for the info. Will find out later today what they say and post back. I am good with $360 as it is higher than Gazelle, other online trade in sites and local Craigslist.

Went by TMobile at lunch and they offered $360 for my S4. I am good with that and will go after work and pick up the Note 3.

You can have it credited to the account and thus, not have a bill till it is all used up or have it credited towards the price of the phone and lowering your monthly payment for the phone. That is what I intend to do and in a couple of months pay off the balance on the phone and go back to my TMobile $30.00/month prepaid plans that gives me 100 talk mins, unlimited texts and 5.0gb of data.

i dont kno, $730 for a phone is still too steep. i think ill wait december when the note 3's price drops to im hoping $500.. i remember when the S3 was selling for $630 last yr when it came out.. 2 months later, the price fell and i got one used for $450.

I had the same choice but the back part of the g2 really bothered me. Also I just love the note 3 keyboard now that they finally added auto correct.

I've always used swift key. Even on my Note 2, but I think i'm gonna keep the stock note 3 keyboard. it's pretty sweet and set up pretty nice
