Case Mate Phantom VS OtterBox defender VS Ballistic SG Maxx. which is best? - Galaxy S III Accessories

I have the galaxy for about 2 weeks now, and I'm afraid to pick it out the table with it's current cheap original case!
I'm looking for something new, something to guard it from falls and prevent any damage! I'm on a contract for the next 3 years, can't afford anything happen to the phone during this time.
basically, I want both protection for the back and the screen, so i came to the 3 options i mentioned in the title.
I don't care how much inches the case adds to the phone, if it's comfortable or not, if the screen loses it's quality! i only care for the case to give the best protection possible, one that will last for a while as well and not lose it's quality in a few month (something i heard about the defender).
so what do you think? which case answers this need best?
all are the same price from what i saw, 50$. i don't mind putting them, but are there any cheaper suppliers? but not with the chance of buying a fake case, prefer to spend the 50$ fully...

My ballistic has been awesome. My phones survived several ugly falls and even a pretty hard throw when my girl got mad at me lol
I have a review if you're interested here in the forum

Otterbox - Will you drop the money for one?

So when the folks over at otterbox et around to making a case, and hopefully a both the Defender and Commuter will be offered (and soon), will you be willing to drop some serious cash for a premium case? I realize that the market is saturated with cheap snap on cases fresh off the boat from china and Korea, but many of these cases offer little to no protection other then minor scuffs. I don't know how many times Ive dropped my handset and watched as the case flew off (split snap on with tabs are notorius for this). Im a huge fan of the Defender cases and see absolutely no problem spending $50 on a defender case to protect my $500 phone. Seems like an obvious choice to me, but many, including my wife, this this price is absurd.
I will. The protrection, quality and having a good belt clip are totally worth it.
I'll buy one the second it's released. As a matter of fact, I'm suprised otterbox is taking so long, considering the simplicity of the slate form factor and the global saturation of the galaxy s.
They must not like money?
As an aside, does anyone know of a case comparable to the defender series that is already on the market for the vibrant?
Thank god finally I originally posted about this about 2 months ago. Super excited.

Express interest to them. Go to their site, go to contact us, then one of the options is plans to make a case for my phone or something like that.
They have awesome product support also,a big reason I love their products.

Is there an Otterbox for this version?

My girlfriend has this phone, obviously being the TMo SGSII.
She saw I'm looking to get a otterbox defender for my Rezound I'm getting, she wants to know if there's one for her phone, I looked on Amazon and they exist for the international version and the AT&T version, would one of these work or is there one specific for this version? Thanks.

You could go on ebay and check out the ballistic or the trident cases. But they dont have that plastic screen protector. But honeslty the screen protector interferes with the touch

It works decent.
Seidio active case is another great option.
Unless you really, really need to have an Otterbox, don't buy the Infuse Otterbox for use with this phone. You'd be supporting a company that explicitly considers our phone to be unworthy of a case. Instead, I would encourage you to support one of the other companies who make cases specifically for our phones.

I really like my Trident. It definitely increases the size of the device, but it feels safe, I've dropped it a few times from decent heights without any noticeable scratches or wear, and just fits in the hand right. Definitely worth the price.

If she'll settle for something like an otterbox, I would suggest getting her one of these- http://www.ebay.com/itm/150738046136?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I just got one & it's just as solid as any otterbox I've ever seen. Much cheaper too, and it comes in a bunch of color combos.
And I agree about not supporting otterbox too. Why give money to a company that thinks our phones aren't important enough to make cases for(even though they're one of T-Mo's best selling phones)? Jerks. I had an OB for my HD2 & to be honest, it wasn't worth the money. The silicone got all stretched out within a month & the screen protector stuck to my screen & caused oil-slick distortions.
So does anyone make a case with a built in screen protector for our phone?
I have read as many threads as I can find...plus I have done a lot of Googling...and I cannot find a case with a built-in screen protector for our phone. I know some people don't like them, but I am a huge fan of the Otterbox Defender and that is what I am looking for on my phone. I don't feel like I can ever get the individual screen protectors on correctly, and even a teeny tiny piece of lint or bubble makes me crazy...and then the sides start coming up. All of my friends and family have 4 or 4s with Defenders (plus my son has an iTouch4 with a Defender), and the touch sensitivity is great. Does any brand make a case with a built in screen protector for the T-Mobile GS2??
Thank you!
p.s. The guy who has modified the Infuse Defender case is brilliant, great innovation! But I am not up for this. I want one made specifically for this phone w/a built-in screen protector.

I have had one of these cases before for the HTC Touch HD and it was the best case i ever owned. I also had a similar but cheap one from ebay for my Desire HD and It was a piece of crap. I now have the SGS3 and bought the official flip cover....guess what! Its as usefull as a condom with a hole in it. Itll [email protected]#k my phone quicker than any of the others I've had. Have you had a look? the cheap ones really aren't worth the postage, let alone the cost of the case!!
If you spend all that money on a phone (even if its free on contract, which is not really free at all) then surely a few quid extra is worth it
why would you want to buy these kind of cases....I mean...look at it!
They'll make any beautiful phone like the S3 look hideous, plus the fact that they are unbelievably uncomfortable...
€85 ????

I would say no. I got the same case for my girlfriend for her S3 without reading the reviews.
It does protect the phone, but the rubber for the outside gets stretched out and doesn't fit the plastic part anymore. It happened within a month of putting it on. You can get it replaced under warranty, but I'd rather not do a warranty claim every month.
Check out the Ballistics case. I own it and love it.
I'd post the URL but I'm prevented from doing so until 10 posts. It's easy to Google though.
It all depends on what you need. If you need something that can withstand just about anything, yes, because neither trident nor ballistic will make their touch case for the n2. Otherwise, you could probably go with something else

I used the Defender case on a few of my phones...tuff as nails is a good saying for them and offer a over abundance of protection if you really need that much for day to day usage...I never had a issue with them stretching out and needing a replacement...but I wasn't constantly pulling them off to do battery pulls either.I did wear out some of the rubber ports and had a replacement on that cause though..
On the defender..the screen protector didn't fair well enough for me though..and had the tendency to be a dust magnet underneath it on mine and using the S-pen..I don't know how well they will do...just something to keep in mind.
Last thoughts ...is the all the extra bulk added to a already large mobile device as our Note II's are...which is the main reason I choose to go back to the best case I ever used IMHO...which is the Seidio Surface case with belt clip.I ordered mine directly from the company..but..Best Buy will be selling the non-kickstand version under their Pt branding..and most should have them in stock for the holidays...
If you have never used one of these cases before...I would give some time for places to get them in-stock so you can go put one on and see for yourself if it will work for you or not...you may not like the size or how they fit on your Note...

Like I said...I feel the Seidio Surface case is the best one out there..In my job...I've dropped mine already (4 feet)..have banged it hard on ladders and other equipment..and it is still perfect..
My Pt case (Best Buy branded Seidio Surface case) I used on my Captivate has taken even rougher treatment over the 2 years I've had it and has not failed..so I'm pretty sold on the Seidio Surface line for all types of bumps & bruises a phone gets on my hip...They aren't water proof...and if you need something for water issues these won't work...but for everything except that and a full onslaught against the screen...they have performed above my expectations of a case and give good gripping while being fairly thin feeling..
Buy a good screen protector like the anti glare/smudge that AT&T stores sell (iFrogz)...and you will have a damn good protection package that looks great too..The Pt case when in stock at Best Buy is about $20 cheaper.

I have the Seidio Surface with the holster. I posted where I dropped it at least 40 feet at a high schoolgame with son and the case did its job

otterbox defender sucks big time

I'm really starting to hate Otterbox.
paying $70.00 for a case that one does not defend "Defender" the phone.
I now have 3 cracked Samsung Galaxy s3's all with Otterbox So called Defender Cases. now can anyone please tell me why it's called "Defender" if it does not defend the phone?
Also paying $70.00 and always having issues with the bumper always slipping off the damn plastic case.

Also its easy to take off if need be.

Depending on what you're trying to protect it from, the UAG, Defender, ShockSuit etc cases all work well.
I've dropped my S3 with all of the above from varying heights to various surfaces and the phone is perfect and cases not much worse for wear.
Search YouTube for video reviews of the various cases, they can give you a pretty good idea.

Well I'm going to give otterbox one more try. Went to bestbuy to see if they had the Armor but they did not so they told me that they can order it for me so I said sure.
Now I have a question does otterbox offer a warranty for my phone if the armor does not live up to what otterbox says it can live up to (so if i get water damage, phone drop, ect)?
I mean paying over $100.00 (Reg $99.99 plus tax - Paid around $91.00 after taxes as it was on sale). with the claims that otterbox claims the case can withstand.
It would make sense that they offer a warranty for my phone. If not the case is has been false-advertised and is misleading.

One more thing if otterbox does not offer a warranty what case manufacturer does?
Thanks.
Not sure about the warranty on the armor. Only reason I stayed away from it is due to complaints about the sound quality during calls. Since I have no need for the crush resistance aspect, I went with Lifeproof (needed the water protection). I know Lifeproof will not replace your phone and the warranty terms for it clearly state that the cases are not a replacement for insurance.

I got the free replacement too (iPhone 4S), but it's too bad that the new one is already becoming stretched out and sloppy after only a couple months. I'll be sending off for warranty replacement for my iPad Mini Defender soon, and I'm otherwise done with Otterbox. Too much money for a greatly disappointing product.
Also bought one for my wife's Samsung Google Nexus, and that's in pretty bad shape too for being 8 months old and spending a good chunk of its time inside a purse pocket.
thanks to this forum I didn't get an otterbox because of posts like this with people saying how it cracks the screen and they aren't as well made for samsung as they are for iphones and other phones. Went with the Body Glove Tough Suit which was suggested on here and it was $30 at wal mart. Working like a charm for over 4 months now, lots of drops and no damage. Just think I'd like a waterproof case now thats not a whole lot bigger in size so I've been checking out the new Griffin Survivor cases they carry in Wal Mart now for $30-$40. Says its waterproof and haven't seen a whole lot about them on here or people talking about the quality and toughness of the case compared to others. Mostly need a new case thats dustproof and light waterproof would be nice too. Can't seem to keep dust out with the case I have now and using my phone while its raining and not being cautious of a drop in water is always a plus because you really never know when something will happen.
I'm willing to pay more for a better case but since the cheap one I have now has worked so good for me, I'm thinking this Survivor one might turn out as good as my Body Glove.
