New Thread Jelly Bean(JB) for HOX (without disrespect)- OTA/Information/Update/ETAs/ - HTC One X

To somewhat control the the masses of Jelly bean threads that are currently arising, I made this thread to collect all talk about it.
Anything related to JB belongs in this thread. We don't want hundreds of threads with the same information, so please use this thread instead.
Please, keep on topic and with respect

I don't see any point in this thread, why making it complicating and splitting it to two threads?
There are about 2-3 pages added to the original thread every day so if you watch it daily, you can controll it easily.
//nevermind, I see that the old one is locked

Well, lets hope this thread soon becomes the one to exchange information about our experiences about JB on our HOXs.
:good:

I hope i can read more sense of jb and sense+ on this new thread without bashing with each other. Just pure updates and news without haters....

I hope too

No, no, no.
You guys proved how well you can control yourselves in the last JB ETA thread. No more.

Getting p'd off with pointless threads about froyo

When this happend in the hero section about the eclair update the active mod deleted all these stupid rumor threads about the update and made one sticky at the top of the page where everyone could discuss the latest rumours without it affecting day to day forum busness, he also made it clear that any other threads about the update would be deleted!! can we not do this here too? do we even have a mod? every other thread seems to be about it we are along way from a froyo update i think, not only do htc have to get sence workin on a whole new os, there gunna want to make a new radio, hboot and recovery just like every other update, that means were months away from the update not days like some ppl think, can we please sort this out befor the desire forum gets ruined with spam
Congratulations on starting another one.

this thread has nothing to do with froyo, its trying to get mods to clean up the desire section
i'm inclined to agree with this sentiment, we should have a discussion thread and then once its finally released we can have as many as we want

I have to agree with this. You have just opened a pointless thread to have a rant. The fact froyo is in the title, people will now use it to discuss why it's not out, and when they will have it, and whether or not it will make their washing machine spin faster.
If you feel so strongly about the threads, then use the report a post button and bring them to the mods attention.

its not a rant its an idea, and its 10 times more productive than urs and that other blokes post, fyi you cant report a post unless its spam or breaking the rules
I'm fairly sure that the rules state you should read and search before posting, all the pointless froyo threads would fall into that category.
Report away
that rule would count for half the posts on the website tho lol plus the search sucks on xda, ive spent hours searching for a thread that i knew existed lol
This is a good idea. It works well on other forums - Ubuntu forums, for instance, have a 'recurring discussions' section for each forum where similar threads are bunched together (usually *****ing about Mono, or comparing Ubuntu to OSX/Windows).
What we really need is a "Rumours" subforum, for all the b/s Froyo/Update threads!
That way, they can still be posted, but I can safely ignore them!
Regards,
Dave
Some such solution would be very welcome. Currently, it is quite pathetic.
As for the search before posting... every second/third day I'm seeing the same issues with new threads here. This is the worst I've seen on any well established forum since 1999 back in the Icrontic days. On the last such occurrence, the OP says he's searched and read countless threads while two threads below covers the same issue perfectly. This is just inane.

I totally agree about deleting all the pointless threads.
Some of them are from stupid newbies who are too lazy to even look 2 threads down let alone do an actual search!
Froyo threads should be deleted and anyone starting one until HTC makes an announcement should get a week ban.
There is already a FROYO discussion thread which is fine to discuss the OS / features etc, but not constant posts by idiots asking for release dates and what not.
I agree... i think we should stop all this speculation regarding the official OTA update of Froyo on the Desire. It has recently been confirmed that the update will be around Q3 of this year, and i think it's pointless for people to continue to post threads about it. We just have to be a little more patient and hope it will arrive in time.

I would more than welcome a stronger hand by the moderators. Failing that, a chit-chat/rumors section, but I think if people are so dumb to post this stuff 10x times, they are bound as well to post it in the wrong section (see the degree of spamming of the development section).
And NO - this thread is very useful and relevant, I would have started myself
Sorry, just tripped over this thread. Is Froyo out yet? I heard it was due to be released on the 29th Feb next year.
*runs and hides!*
Hi sort of agree, however this is the 'General' desire forum - where anything can be discussed! But yes a rumour or one thread for rumours update at the top may help.
However where do you draw the line??? look how many other threads repeat the same things!
I dont think its so bad in general section - I sort of expect it here - plus freedom of speach and no forum gestapo is nice

Moderation on this forum is poor - there are so many repetative threads that its becomming full of the same old thing day after day. Many are not adhering to the rules of the forum - search first and if you dont find your answer then ask! Carrying out searchs on this forum now means that information is spread across so many discussion threads that it becomes non effective; maybe a reason why new threads are now starting up each day asking the same question?
In order to ensure this forum is useful, comprehensive and easy to search, surely its not too much to ask?
Just a thought - i dont think i have ever seen a mod edit, apart from moving of a thread - not like the HD2 forum!

[IDEA] Development for the welfare of our community

So why are we the only forum that has to have 40 generals for each rom, why are we not like every other phone where the chat about the rom is done in development? I feel this could alleviate a lot of the "RentaMods." Since i found it to be an easy way to find solutions to many issues... for example the galaxy nexus there roms they don't have 5 different threads for one rom... guess where people talk about the developers rom... in the developer thread... guys i know this is earth-shattering stuff... but let's just keep it simple one thread one rom.
I await my ban with GLORY, but i consider this development since it is essential to our community at e4gt xda since it is causing problems between many users.
this rom is the bomb!!

riggggght this belongs in dev, isnt this just like trying to be the forum police?? arent there already rules of the forum (stickied at the top of each section) that should take care of this...
as for this whole idea that talking in a dev thread should be fine, most of the chatter is the same damn questions every three pages! if everyone would not be lazy and again follow the forum rules 3/4's of most threads wouldnt exist.
my point is why do we seem to be the only phone that has a clusterfuck of twenty threads instead of a clusterfuck of one thread?

i dont see why it matters what the general or q&a sections look like or amount of threads, thats what they are there for. why should everyone have the right to turn a dev thread into a clusterfuck?? as for the rest of the forums i only frequent the nook color section and the dev section is HEAVILY moderated and respected
I came from the EVO ROM section it's not half as ridiculous as this forum when it comes to being watched. I don't think I ever posted in the general section for a ROM. Yes the questions get redundant but most of the time it's just as easy to answer the question as it is to ***** that it's in the wrong section or that it's a frequently answered question. Not to mention that a lot of people troll these roms from tapatalk or the xda apps which offers virtually no convenient search functionality. yes Google works but not half as well a everyone acts like it does. It took me 30 minutes to search for a specific thing that had been "talked about frequently" in the forum through google. but could have been answered easily enough and in less time then it took to post a lmgtfy link. it's a forum people are going to ask questions it's the purpose of the site period.
All it comes down to is this.
Certain devs request certain guidelines for their development threads.
Do they have the right to request that?
I think so.
And being as the devs make the community, their wishes should be respected.
Not ignored and spit on.

Plus have you looked at the general section lately? People post **** about iPads.....iPads! Which have absolutely nothing to do with e4gt at all! fav modems, games, stupid **** that has no specifics about a particular rom at all. Random rants who wants to dig through that kind of **** to find an answer to a question that a developer or senior member who has been in the forum for a bit can answer in a short conscious answer. I answer plenty of noob questions because I know a while ago I was in the same place.
I don't consider myself a "DEVELOPER" but I've posted couple of roms.
I don't want to have multiple threads for my roms because it will take more time from me to follow all of them.
I think, if you have questions, bug reports, problems with my rom you should ask, talk, report them in rom thread so the members of the forum who use my development can find all the questions and answers in one thread.
And it's easier for me to keep eye on all problems related to my rom.

OP has a point... in the OG epic forums most threads had just the dev thread, and the threads could be really helpful and relatively BS free, like midNIGHT, or 500 pages of insanity like viper or ACS... but really there wasnt ever ROM threads in general. I assumed this was an EVO thing, as I had heard that forum was nuts with kids posting inane crap and flaming... idunno. It seems like this phone attracts a lot of disgruntled people... tons of minimodding and attitude... sad really. Its not like the community for this phone is so big that we cant keep out dev threads relatively clutter free, but some members choose to flame everyone who asks a ROM RELATED question in the ROM thread... makes no sense. If you REALLY feel you need to censor and judge the validity of every post in the precious Dev section, DONT respond with another post, ignore them till someone helpful (theres usually one or two who 'troll' every rom helping people out... bastards...) answers their question, and YOU flag the oh so offensive post and even PM a mod, maybe we will get a clearer picture that the minimodding creates WAY more posts than the questions or occasional side topic.
Also, I think this is a little different now, as back on the OG Epic, a lot of dev discussion was done in the threads, not IRC (I havent been in a chatroom since like '99) or ROM specific websites, or PM.... everyone was involved. Really if you weed out everything that isnt ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT of the given ROM in a thread, you would have about two pages... so whats the point of the Dev section? I think theres a lot of much undeserved elitism going on where people dont want to be bothered by all the tapatalk notifications because someone else has a question... try just actually looking at the thread and see if theres an update to the OP or something... but lighten up... this phone has a lot of stick up the ass people... get over yourself.
To be honest, I pretty much only see 2 threads at most for a given rom, one in general and one in development. If you hear of a general thread being referred to, then it shouldn't be hard to find and use it.
Want to hear ironic? For whatever reason, the general thread gets ignored, so the dev thread is overrun. Where do people move to continue development, teamwork, and quality help? The general thread.
When did you first see the aokp rom? :sly:

And if would have read earlier in the thread you'd see that the decision to have two threads (one for questions and such and another for development) is totally up to the developer of the ROM himself.
While some don't want that, others do.
And I don't see what's so hard about complying with what they want.

My issue with the 10-post rule

Hi all,
This will probably get deleted, but I'm just trying to contribute to discussion and get around what I consider a poor thought-out rule at the same time.
I am a long time reader, particularly of the [ROM] ICS 4.0.4 BCM RC3.4U0 GSM/CDMA <2012-05-19> (Bravo CM9 HWA) thread, but first time poster.
I consider myself to know more about the topic than a large number of the posters in that thread, though I certainly don't have knowledge on the subject anywhere near that than the experts in the thread. However, there have been many times when I have had the answer to someone's question, but have not been able to post.
The reason I cannot post is because the thread is limited to users who have made 10 or more posts. I can understand the need to filter out people who are asking the same question over and over again, but in doing so you filter out those who can genuinely contribute to the discussion. Just because I am not an active member in other forums of XDA, does not mean I am not able contribute to this thread.
So now, I have what I consider a reasonable question for the author of the thread, or another expert who may come across it. This question hasn't been asked before, and it bothers me that I cannot ask it. Other people may also benefit from me asking and receiving an answer to this question.
I thought about just creating 10 pointless posts in the general forum, but decided that would benefit no one. So here is my contribution to these forums, followed my 9 pointless posts. Kidding, I'll see whether I get responses to this and respond accordingly myself.
Thanks for reading.
Regards,
Shaun
P.S. I have to wait 5 minutes between editing posts as a new user to prevent spam? I've been here 5 months and not once posted anything, let alone spam.

If you know more about that topic, then you could have been sharing it all those months, by just making a few posts in your device's General thread. Or in it's Q&A thread. Or in a thread in the General Forum here. Or in the Off Topic forum. Pity.
Here is excellent advice on how to achieve 10 (and more) QUALITY posts.
Welcome to XDA.
One other thing, Dev threads are for development. If you want to help more people, start a thread like this one in your device Q&A area. You will be amazed at how many people you can help there.
Thanks for your response, the link you gave was interesting and I should have looked for such information prior to posting. Considering I was quite blunt, I appreciate your helpful explanation.
Personally I still feel the rule is limiting many people from contributing from discussion that would otherwise get involved. I know there aren't exactly any other solutions to reduce the number of repeat questions, but my opinion is that more discussion is better than less, provided it is on-topic (even if it may be a "stupid" question).
I'll admit I'm not here explicitly to share my knowledge, I am here to gain knowledge for myself. I think most users here would be the same, although obviously there is a great community here that are not just in it for themselves. But if I see someone struggling with something that I know the answer to, I would be pleased to have the opportunity to give them a hand and give back in that manner, rather than lurk in silence.
I also do not consider myself an expert in any area XDA relates to. However having read the entire thread, referenced in the first post, over the months it has been contributed to, I consider myself able to help out there more than anywhere else on XDA. The Q&A type thread you mentioned is not specific to the knowledge I have gained from following the thread and it seems to more sensible to me to give my knowledge back to people where they will be looking for it.
As an aside, I'm not sure how much I would even consider the thread a development thread. For the most part it is one person developing (combined with his using work from other developers etc). What he does is excellent, no doubt about that, but it is basically him alone developing. The thread itself is mainly substantiated of feedback to improve to ROM or questions on any issues or the like. It is not used for collaboration as such. Any additional discussion would not hinder development collaboration, rather it would allow for more feedback for the developer and more knowledge for users of the ROM.
Thanks again for your reponse mf2112.
To be honest, I'm not sure what I thought I may achieve by posting here, as I'm sure you've seen it all before. So that said, if you wish to finish the discussion here that's fine by me, but if you do have more to add, I'd be happy to hear it.
Thanks.
I'm just like you, struggling to get something more in this forum. Just never give up.
The first few post restrictions are mostly for spam control. Otherwise new accounts would be opened and we would be flooded with spam posts advertising stuff in every forum.
Your device appears to be the HTC Desire from the ROM link. If you want to learn more, check out the other Desire subforums. Knowledge is everywhere on XDA.

Similar situation here, but the rule is pretty standard at a lot of forums. Nothing to do about it but try to make 10 productive posts. Here's my first one. I noticed that the introduction threads are in each device forum, so an intro for each device will put me pretty close.
I'm a huge fan of the XDA community, and like the OP, I've been reading different threads for months. Looking forward to learning with you guys and hopefully contributing eventually. My experience in the field is limited, I learned basic web development in the early 2000s and have barely kept those skills up in the last decade.
Rooted EVO 4G - off contract, used mostly by 4 year old
Wife has stock EVO 3D - had S-ON root but got it put back to stock for her
I have an unlocked and rooted Motorola Photon, running CW7
Asus Transformer running stock ICS
Samsung Galaxy 10.1" running stock HC
I'll be getting an EVO View in a few days, will update at that time.
i too am a long time member here in XDA, since i got the XDA II hmmmm or was it the casiopia
anyways i recently became active just this 2012 when i got my hands on the HD2 - what a magnificent phone & there are alot of magnificent devs & chef here in XDA.
just by asking a lot of "meaningful" question i got through the hurdles of flashing & upgrading & even made my own tutorial for the ultra noob's
whatever Rule or Restriction that is in placed now is for the good of the site & it's user after all this is a FREE Forum/ site & at the same time you get to learn from some of the greatest.

Forced?
If people feel the need to spam to reach ten posts then I dare say that they have nothing worth contributing to a development forum.

Well, let's look at it this way. What happens when you start to look for threads you can contribute to? You start to post and be a contributing member of XDA instead of a leech. No one likes leeches - they suck the life from XDA. So why don't you take that fury that you evidently are feeling and turn that into a force to be reckoned with? Become someone who is known for contributing.
I understand being frustrated by the limit. However, once I decided I wanted to post in the dev forums, it took me less than two days to make 10 good posts. Two days sounds like a lot, but I would take that anyday to keep these forums as clean and awesome as they are.
The moderators already take on a huge responsibility - look at how many threads end up getting locked because someone gets on here and asks the experts to draw up a 20-step program for their own personal use instead of taking a few hours to read and process the large amount of content that is already here. Imagine how much worse this would be is such posts were also mucking up the dev forums.

That is exactly what happened to me when I started here a few months ago. I wanted to post a question in a Sensation dev thread, ran into the limit, and now just a few months later, I am on here for hours every day in my "jobby" helping people in various threads in multiple forums.
It's really easy to get 10 posts in less than an hour. Just answer some questions in q&a and general and yes, if can't easily answer any questions on this entire forum, then you really shouldn't be posting anything. Ever.

Recurring threads

Hi,
First of all...Don't kill me
Since a few weeks there is a upsurge of recurrent threads like "What is the best rom","What is the best kernel","What is the best rom for battery life",What is the best kernel for battery life" or "Help me to choose a (best) kernel/rom"...
There was this kind of topics 3/4 times a day in General and Q&A section...For me it gets boring every day the same threads.
There is not that the rom or the kernel that comes into account about battery life for example, but the settings, the usage,etc...But always (or almost) in these threads the reply is just "x kernel","xx kernel","x rom","xx rom",etc...without more detail...Makes no sense...
There are almost many answers as there are different kernel+all the different settings (CPU freq,GPU freq,undervolt,hotplug,etc...)+the rom used+your personnal settings (sync,brightness,widgets,wifi,etc...)+your use...,Etc...
Many of these threads have a dozen answers then they are forgotten and the OP never comes back and does not even give feedback...
What's the point?
With a little search in both General and Q&A section there are some recent threads, rather important (in term of number's reply) and detailed for it to be useful...
Why not post again in one of these threads to move up and continue the discussion into a central thread...
It's so complicated searched a bit, read existing threads, test by itself or form an opinion by reading other feedback?
There would be no threads regarding these question,ok no worries, but right now there are many, way too much this kind of topics...
These threads are very subjective as the answers and reflects nothing...Almost the time nothing is known of the usage/settings of the OP than the guy who answer, just a name of kernel or rom...
And nothing is says about "Best kernel/rom" or "Best battery life"...What does that mean exactly ...? Unspecified:nothing, therefore unnecessary threads...
Ok, we're here to help, advise and give notice but not 10 times a day the same thing especially that with a minimum of research and reading...there is a response...
Sorry for this topic,if it does not please->trash...
Just so everyone make an effort and you can not see all the time the same thing with the same answers when there is already threads...
And if you do not like... do not read ... This is what I do ,but when I naviguate in General or Q&A section...and when I see the titles of all these threads it bothers me to navigate through all these threads and to see new interesting topics between all of these topics to see 3/4 of interresting...
Thanks
PS:sorry for my English about some phrases.
Sticky please.
I 100% agree with you. Unfortunately it will never stop.
I made a rant similar to yours in January (see signature) and there are still 3-5 new "I bricked my phone plz help!!!!!!!!" threads a day.

The irony will come when another "Recurring threads" post pops up next week
Agreed. Lazy people will be lazy.
Just report the thread, do we really need another please use the search thread?

Already stickied in the posting rules thread.

Unfortunately, with 1 million + members you get to see a fairly good cross section of humanity. That includes those that won't listen to instructions, those that need spoon feeding and those that genuinely need help.
Oh, and those that give useless replys to threads (Get that in before anyone else does)

Hi,
Thanks for your opinion.
@phatmanxxl,and...?I know there is already a sticky but I presented it differently, not just a rule.Like I said if it does not please->trash.
@killyouridols,yes you're right...
Each gives his opinion ...Perfect,maybe someone can convince me that I'm wrong and that this multitude of threads is not a "problem" or is not annoying
I have not asked for a sticky or anything else,I just gave my opinion on something annoying for me (and maybe for others).
Of course the mods can not do everything but a central thread would not hurt, like other threads (homescreens,pictures,benchs,etc...).

Thinking of posting a new thread???
Use the search button on the top bar between "New Posts" and "Quick Links"
If any mod, including myself, continue to find new threads about topics that have threads already existing.
The thread will be locked with no notice and/or up to a temp BAN!!.
Mods, including myself, are not here to keep the forum organized after the fact, we need your help to keep it organized, clean and grouped.

Actually it's not the case, recurrent threads are still there and they are mushrooming ("ils poussent comme des champignons" ).
Of course already seen with my thread but a little reminder...There is less about like mine as there are those that I describe.
In this section we also see topics that have nothing to do...
Feel free to the mods to delete or lock this thread for convenience.
The answer is to refer them to a link with the proper discussion then report the thread as redundant and one of us mods will come and lock it.
Thanks

i agree with above me
The fact is, everyone that posts these "which _______ is best for battery/performance/stability" are usually quite new to this world. And they do not realize even a little bit that there is NO SINGLE answer to that question. Hell, there isn't even a round about general few answers to those questions. It is ALL COMPLETELY dependent on your use of device and the environment the device is in (i.e. Signal reception, apps on device, etc...) So much so that any other persons set up will usually NEVER give you the same results. People worry to much about finding "The best ______" and not enough about just enjoying the device AND enjoying the experience of the quest to find your OWN "perfect setup". And even when you DO find your own perfect set up, you are just going to keep wondering if there is something else that could make it better.
So what happens is they come here, and most likely they've SEEN these "which ______ is best", threads, BUT they see all the amounts of different responses and combinations without much details and decide "maybe if i ask I'll get a different answer catered to what I'm looking for" type of mind set. They are just confused as to the amount of different setups they saw in these other threads regarding a best set up since there isn't any details.
What they SHOULD come away from those threads thinking is something more along the lines of "Wow, there is so many different opinions on the best set up that i should just get to experimenting for myself" that is really all that they should do in the first place. It can be a bit intimidating to steyel into the development forum and see the multitude of roms, kernels, tweaks, that EACH have there own following of users that swear by them and it's easy to be lost on where to start. They don't realize that they can just choose a few things to flash and try them out, and then move along quite easily to another setup. They just don't realize how easy it is to just flash another ROM or kernel or whatever and just go at it. These users who post these types of threads are usually afraid of the prospect of bricking their brand new $500 device. Yes that risk is always present, but if it was something that happened very often due to a certain set up its something that you would have read about and info would be easily found on what NOT too use.
These types of threads will never go away unless as stated by the moderator above, REPORT(why is everyone SO AFRAID to press that report button??!!)and point the OP to a thread already established about the same thing. threads don't have to be vulgar/spam/etc... To warrant a report/deletion/maintenance....
So that's the Lesson of today. Be vigilant and report those threads if you want to see a cleaner forum. They will never NOT be posted, it's just the nature of people to want to be told what's best in a reply directed to them personally.
(BY THE WAY, can anyone tell me what's the best thread to read to find out what the best ROM/kernel setup is? Thankyou..../sarcasm )

[DISCUSSION] PKMN rom discussion thread. Keep all your ETA's,Questions, chat here

Here you go guys. Nothing but pure non related questions/posts happening in the development thread and over the last week over 3 mods(at all levels) had to clear up posts.
So to avoid any issues and having members getting infractions and bans keep all your chit chat here.
I will let this thread update on it's own since we are a big community and enjoy J4n's rom so let us enjoy and discuss here about the goodies that J4n and team bring.
Oh and any flaming or posts that are deemed abusive or out of content will be reported and closure of this thread.
Enjoy
ffs - the official thread is stupid. pages upon pages of crap. And people commenting about crap. Nothing development related and a huge waste of time. Glad this thread has been created for nothing crappy posts like the one I am writing. Long may it continue.

that is the whole point of this one mate..to keep all the crap here and leave that one clear of stupid posts and having mods to clear it up all the time..
not fair on J4n and team and not fair on mods either to have to clear up all the time..and plus i doubt if people want to get banned even if they think there posts are innocent
It's nice to a general discussion added sorry about my little rant on the thread, i was gonna open one but I'm a newbie to the forums.
It would be nice to see android 4.0.4 incorporated into pkmn Rom I've heard that it fixes a lot of bugs ppl have had with HTC one x

great idea
now we still waiting italy to win and the amazing rom,,, lol
It appears that the mods have had enough they closed the official thread and said one new Rom available then it will either reopen or a new thread made

Although I have not tried the rom, I will now because of the hype created.
Let's see if the new release is worth the hype it generated.
There is no need anymore for this thread. Thanks to the OP for the good intention. The main thread has been closed due to a new release coming up. Please wait for the thread to be reopened or a new thread to be created. You will be able to ask and discuss everything there.
Have fun.
