screen turns on when getting a text - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I hate hate hate hate this so much. It drains my battery since i receive a lot of text.
Any way to disable this without turning off notification all together or using a 3rd party app?

Go into messaging setting and uncheck where it said "show a preview of the message in the status bar"..

That is unchecked.
The items that are checked off are
Notifications and Spam settings.
I am going to try unchecking spam settings. Now i gotta wait to receive a text.

let me know if that workds 'cuz i hate my screen waking up as well

damn no luck. Was at a bar last night drinking and text myself from and to a S3.
Screen turns on everytime.
On another note that i may make a thread to ask if i can't get an answer. When you compose a email in the email client. Does the font increase? Is there a way to decrease it?

You can only turn off the screen wakeup if you use a SMS app like handcent or gosms pro. Not the ideal solution but it works. I hate using apps that duplicate functionality I already have, but had to in this case.

Although not an elegant solution to your problem (such as go here and uncheck this), have you ever tried Handcent from the market? Tons of customizations. When I 1st got my epic (about a year now) the thing that drove me crazy was text notifications during a phone call! Someone recommended Handcent, and I've never looked back since then!
If you go that route, after you install, make sure you disable notifications in your stock messaging app - or else you'll get both the stock and Handcent telling you that you have a new message.
Check haptic feedback settings under Display. You can turn down the intensity. I also notice GB's haptics are over-zealous.
As stated by the root, check that, and also check the app's settings as well. The app overrides the built in haptic feedback toggle.

****blushing**** and even embarrassed to reply, but in appreciation to those who have responded ... it was the app notifications that was the culprit. sorry for wasting your time.

Flashed jelly bean, no longer vibrates for texts and emails

I flashed the mrom aosp jelly bean And my phone no longer vibrates for texts and emails when on vibrate mode, only phone calls. Anyone know how to fix it or what settings I need to look up?
Thanks

I just tested and I get vibration for SMS, I am using Handcent though, not sure if it makes a difference.

Go into the messaging app settings and change the vibration from "never" to "always"
on the email, the gmail app should automatically have the notification, but try going into the settings for that. see what you find.

go into gmail app settings click on your email and it'll bring up the settings for notifications, same with messaging its in settings. I was going crazy over the same thing as soon as i switched over until I'd read that JB changed how notifications act so now every app has to be coded to vibrate on its own as opposed to having a system wide setting.

well I like it better this way since in theory it lets you have more control over the vibrate notifications of a lot of apps. The only issue is that a lot of the apps have yet to be optimized for JB.

The messaging app provides these three options for when to vibrate:
- Always
- Only when silent
- Never
Are there any apps or hacks that could enable the following behavior?
- If I set the phone to vibrate (using side buttons), the phone vibrates when I get a text message.
- If I set the phone to silent, the phone doesn't vibrate when I get a text message.
The only two situations I care about are Silent and Vibrate. I never ever use a regular ringer.

Sync, push etc.

Trying to figure out, after many years of Android, what the SYNC toggle in Android turn on/off.
I thought this woulkd turn on/off ALL push notifications, but it seems instead that it does so only for google ones (gmail. exchange, calendar, tasks, play stores) while facebook and whatsapp are totally ignored.
I am finding the best way when at home to switch off all notifications besides whatsapp actually, without going into each one of them: is tehre any?
I dont use whatsapp, but my Facebook acts same as yours.. If I don't want notifications I have to manually go in the app and turn them off. I think the sync toggle is for Google services, possibly everything set up in "accounts". The Facebook sync in accounts is for contacts, that is why it does not stop notifications.

well at least now I know it's not only me...
yeah it's a little annoying that Android does not have a sigle notificstion register point where all apps (even those not using google srvices) can register for push notifications, so that it'd be easy to toggle on/off what you want, insteda of going into each app's settings
I thought that tasker could help, but no it cannot...
I have a tablet at home, and don't want to receive double notifications

Screen doesn't turn on for me when I get texts using stock messaging app. It's been that way out of the box, I never had to disable anything.
What model you have?
Sent from my LG G3 using Tapatalk
Yes, it's an annoying feature but unfortunately cannot be turned off if you use the stock messaging app. One option is to use 3rd party messaging like go message
I have just tested. Seems that hangouts doesn't turn on the screen

I have the D851 US T-Mobile variant. I use the stock SMS app and my screen does not turn on when I get a text or MMS. It was that way out of the box, I'm not using Hangouts, so I don't know how that works there.
I think I might have found the issue in message settings.
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Free mobile app
yes you have to uncheck notifications - display message notifications if you don't want the screen to turn when you receive an sms BUT you won't be notified with a message tone but only through the LED (color green).
new message pop-up - little popup box upper left corner on homescreen. only shows from whom and not some of the message if preview is unchecked.
preview - shows a preview of message.
if you only disable any of these two but still checked notifications, screen will still light up and you still get to hear message tone but no popup window on upper left of homescreen.
LG should fix these as some people still want the option hear the message tone when a text arrives but don't want the screen to turn on and also retain the option to turning the screen on for those who want it this way. not like this one wherein the only option you have if you want screen off when receiving message is the message tone is also disabled.
for now, tweaks from mods like tweaksbox perhaps will do.
confirmed tweak new message screen off from g3 tweaksbox works the way it should for those who want screen off when receiving new message but still want the message tone. just remember to restart phone when setting this option.

Facebook posts not showing in wear

Are Facebook posts not showing up on wear yet. Wear only shows me that I have a new post/notification but I can't actually see what it is without opening the app on the phone.

Do you have "Vibrate" turned on for your phone in the Facebook App Settings?
I get vibrate notifications on my watch, but I also have vibrate turned on in the App settings. Maybe toggle that and see if that fixes it.
However, like the OP, I only get who sent the Facebook Post, not the text of the update. This is a Facebook limitation, not a Wear limitation. They have to add the support.
A company a big and supposedly "forward thinking" a Facebook would have had these features from the beginning

It looks like I didn't have it set to vibrate in the app itself. I thought that any notification sent to the watch would cause it to vibrate. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not sure if this is a feature or a hindrance yet, to be honest. I do like the option of having some notifications on the watch without vibration, but I'm not sure if the best place for that option to be is in the settings for each individual app. Can be a bit cumbersome to work out, but I should only be setting it up once, in theory.
