Samsung has sold 30,000,000 SIII so far! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung seems to be on a roll with their flagship Galaxy devices. Earlier today they announced that the Note II passed over the 3 million in sales. Now, according to a post on Facebook, plus a picture of proof, the Samsung Galaxy S III has surpassed 30 million in sales.

Its not just the accessories.. what about All Share Cast ... (without the stupid dongle)

I'm happy to see a device aside from the iPhone have a significant effect on the smartphone market. I made the switch from iPhone to GS3 and could not be happier.

TBH, I love how I'm seeing more and more Android (looking at things, S3 seems to be much more dominant) in the public... I feel like we're having an actual individualization rising from the ashes... I mean, way back, the dumbphones had so much selections and features aren't all that important people choose to get the phone that expresses themselves...
Then the iPhone came... and all of that was lost, until they started making cases of different designs... Then, if you think about it... people want the same features, but all along people also want to express their individuality... And the rise of androids are bringing back the actual individuality we had back when we had dumbphones... We don't need cases to show off who we are, let our phones do the talking! haha

And still no jelly bean

Now they can use the revenue to develop the next galaxy device that will surpass that 30 million sales mark!
Hope they get rid of the physical/capacitive buttons and adopt the on screen buttons or develop something new.

I am actually quite a fan of how the S3 buttons are laid out. They are very intuitive in my opinion. Though it will undoubtedly be interesting to see where they go with it.

I like the fact we have capacitive buttons on our phones. Is it just me?

Maybe I'm the odd one out that doesn't like the physical/capacitive buttons.
The S3 is my first touchscreen smartphone and I found that without a case I would accidentally hit the back key with my palm.
The fact that on screen buttons are raised from the button of the phone and on the screen, it would prevent that situation from happening.
In addition you are able to customize the buttons to your preference and would have a sleeker appearance than having the big physical home button.
Had the nexus 4 been built differently, I would be all over that.

With so many s3 owners, Samsung really doesn't have an excuse to leave us in the dark with regards to updates.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium

I agree on the update part. As for the buttons, i like the physical home button. The only thing i don't like about the phone is the slightly concave screen. Makes screen protector fitting very annoying.
I also agree on the individuality aspect. I think that's a major contributor in Android's surge in popularity over "other os's". And we have a standardized charging plug.

Haha heck yeah! :cyclops:

Maybe this is because I'm coming from the S2 family, but the physical home button is a no no for me.
Customization wise: the S3 does have a fair share of festive cases. Maybe not as many as iPhone, but I guarantee you'll find something. If you're not a case person we have something that not many other phones on the market can get - custom back covers. Besides in durability, we've got the iPhone pretty much beat!
Stock ICS on my S3

30 million is a lie! Samsung isn't cool enough to sell as many phones as Apple!

the only thing i don't like is the home button. why oh why is that an actually physical push button when the menu and back buttons are capacitive ?!?

I have seen quite a few people now with the sgs3. Owning one and being able to talk to another sgs3 owner is a great conversation starter with people.

Did you ever watch Star Trek The Next Generation when it was out? The idea of computers the size of a book was a futuristic idea. It was an idea that was considered 300 years in the future. Now we have tablets that are even more advanced than those in the show.
The military is now testing invisible armor
Purdue is testing nano-technology for cloaking devices
MIT is working on a tractor beam using light technology
We have cell phones that are more powerful than the computers used to power the space shuttle to the moon circa 1969
Even the play station 3 has the computing power of super computers from 1997.
Technology improves at incredible rates. I would be shocked if we don't have see through and flexible tablets inside of 10 years and maybe even 5.

...maybe samsung's next phone will be designed by boeing...>,>
While the commercial seems to be an exaggeration it will most definitely be commercial produced within the next 5-10 years.
Invisible internals? While I'm sure they can minimize the visibility of such things what I think most likely to happen is there will be a 'hand grip' or such where all of the unhideables will be hidden...mostly the battery. The motherboards for these devices is already insanely tiny and only 1 or 2 more process shrinks and super-integration of all of the disparate circuits could reduce the entire motherboard to a chip the size of an SD card.
The flexible invisible screen already exists...and it's AMOLED.
The battery is going to be the hard part...though perhaps we're not thinking 'out of the box' enough IRT batteries. I know there is lots of work going on in the polymer-battery area...flexible, semi-flexible or formless liquid batteries? Who knows....but...we will see it.
This is no flying car...these are consumer electronics. These megalith companies have a vested interest in making the stuff they just sold you yesterday completely obsolete by today to take more of your money tomorrow. That's their incentive. That's why Apple will sit on a phone for a year...they also make money on the back-end in the app store. Samsung makes money on the hardware, that's why there's so much of it.
I see nothing compelling of current gen, next gen or even rumored next-next gen Androids/smart phones. My phone is pretty damn fast and thin and has a huge screen...aside from radio upgrades, storage upgrades and processor upgrades...which we really don't need yet, we are way ahead in that department....I want something as amazing as a flexible see through phone. Going from a Lotus to a Moment was amazing, going from the Hero to the Evo4G was amazing....Going from the Evo to Evo3D was, umm, incremental? Slightly? Evo3g-NS4G to ET4g? It was cool, it is the superior phone for certain, but...amazing? Not anymore.
Bring on the transparent holographic liquid-polymer see-through battery invisible electronic 4D 5G LTE-A² ultra-phones. I'm getting bored, lol.

I saw a preview some where online that a japaneese company has a thin plastic film stuff that did just what this describes in this video. I totally beleive it. Ovbiously the internals arnt see through but the diaplay could be. It was shocking when i saw the preview demo a year or so ago
Edit- it was slightly like the videos posted in page one. I posted beford i read it all to see if there were videos
Honestly, some people here have no imagination. The internals, for example, don't need to be see through, they just have to be smaller and clustered to a certain edge of the device and be covered by something black so it looks like a design. The rest can be clear. Done!
You guys need to balance out some logic with imagination, you will then see how close these things are to actually being in production.

I agree, I just do not get their business partnership at all. I guess the bottom line is in the end if Samsung is making enough money off if Apple they really don't care how they are treated.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer?
Samsung is a huge company with many branches. So if it's anything like the place I work at, each division takes care of themselves and will completely screw another division over if it means THEY will meet their numbers and get a better bonus.
I'm pretty sure Samsung makes a lot more money on anything Apple uses for the iPad than what they do on sales of their Galaxy Tabs.

Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) will supply the touch screen for Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s new iPad after LG Display Co. (034220) and Sharp Corp. (6753) didn’t meet the U.S. company’s quality requirements, according to an analyst with iSuppli.
Samsung, the world’s top flat-panel maker, currently is the sole vendor of the display for the 9.7-inch device, said Vinita Jakhanwal, a senior manager at iSuppli, a unit of Englewood, Colorado-based IHS Inc.

Prying off the glass cover and Retina screen revealed the part numbers for the display panel. It appears to be made by Samsung, with part numbers matching a pattern used for previous Samsung panels. Rumors had suggested that LG and Sharp were also considered as suppliers for the iPad 3's 9.7" 2048x1536 pixel display, though it seems that Samsung is the only supplier pumping out enough volume for Apple at launch.

Honestly, the S3 is my first Android device. Before this I had an iPhone 4 and before that an iPhone 3GS.
Things that I love about my Galaxy S3?
Google Navigation and maps, and the blinking LED, which I find incredibly useful!
Things I miss about iOS? My Shure earphones with mic / volume control don't work with the Sammie S3. Also, believe it or not, I miss iMessage.
But the ability to customize Android takes the cake. I used to jailbreak my Apple all the time... Even without rooting or switching to a custom ROM, the flexibility of Android is outstanding!
I'm LOVING the S3!!!!
I am also loving my S3. I was gonna hold of on the note 2 but have a nexus 7 and didn't really want a phone that big. Really wish the US S3 had the quad core though
Apple strikes again - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEy2u2n_XTQ
They've actually GOT the patent GRANTED.
I have been an android user for several years now. I have been burning roms for my Inspire 4G with regularity. Now I have an s3 and I love it just the way it is. Although I couldn't resist rooting and adding CWM.
My employer makes me carry a iphone 4s for mail and phone purposes. After growing accustomed to touchdown, I really feel handicapped by the built in exchange support apple gave me. It sucks quite simply.
Tonight I got an email from our IT department telling me to not use my phone to respond to any meeting invitation as it could delete the invite for ALL recipients. I must wait for Apple to release an update for ios 6.
What I detest about the iPhone? The store- I have to enter my password each time. Tiny screen, crappy auto-correct, no back button. What do I like? Delete mail animation.

What model Shure's are you using?
Would love to hear what kind of setup you had with the iphone and now the GS3. Can't help you with the volume, but you can get a cable with a mic. Lol. But seriously, when I'm listening to music I don't want a mic, I don't think I'd use the volume but if i could advance a song that would be nice.
Current setup:
Shure SE315, paid version Equilizer and fiio E6 portable amplifier. (fx music off) I can rock and I'm about to really upgrade.
If you don't have your Shure's running through a portable amplifier, your missing out.

Loving my Galaxy s III (i747)
I was going to stick with my GS2 but finally caved and upgraded to the Galaxy SIII (i747). I still miss the size of the GS2 (fit better in my hand), but the features (screen clarity, camera app, motion features, etc) on the GS3 are amazing. After 4 months of running stock, I finally went on a flashing spree and have finally settled on Ariel 2.10 ICS Stock/Moded ROM.
GS3 vs iPhone
I've always been an Android user and the GS3 is by far the best. My wife, due to following trend, insisted on having an iPhone 4S. After her and I doing a side by side comparison, she wishes she had gone with a GS3 as well. I enjoy flashing, rooting, customizing, and getting under the hood of my devices. It is interesting to see that Apple has played catch up on iPhone 5. It will also be interesting to see how their reputation continues to hold up within the next few years with their attempts to dominate the market through litigation.
Anyone check out the Xperia Ion? My mom had gotten it yesterday and said she didn't like it. The phone has a 12MP camera, but in my opinion that's the only good feature. The shape of the phone itself (big square with a rounded back) makes it uncomfortable to hold. The speaker is horrible. You have to hold the phone to your ear to hear things from the speaker. Software wise it isn't terrible. They give you a good amount of theme options straight out of the box.

the i5 has better drop test results then the s3 they need to make more sturdy phones
My first android was the S2 SR. The phone was perfect save for the music player, I just couldn't find one I liked so I just tote my iPhone 4 around for music. Apple makes good music players but that's where it ends for me. Since I've used Android, iOS just doesn't cut it for me and I probably won't ever use another iPhone as a primary phone again.

the S3 has a curvy feeling with being thin rather than boxy which is where it makes the sides and enclosure of the gs3 as a whole weaker.
If it was a box like the iPhone 5 it'd be better enclosure-wise yes...but than not as many people would love the s3

The Ion isn't too bad but I agree on the shape. Xperia's interface doesn't flow as well as TouchWiz does at all. Media-wise yes it's great but otherwise it doesn't
appeal as nicely as the s3 would. Xperia rooting also is more of a pain than samsung has ever been. Their camea's megapixel is higher, and always has been but
I dont see it being the solid reason to get one.
I started with the Blackberry Bold, then went with a cheap Windows Phone for a while, and now have the Galaxy S3. First time Android owner here.
I think I will grow to love Android. My first impression was that, out of the box, my Windows Phone was better. It felt quicker and did the things I wanted to better. I absolutely LOVE how much customization is available for Android phones, though, so I have a feeling that I will definitely love this phone, once I've tinkered around with it.
So when does Samsung think it'll be right to let all of us android virgins in on some of their secrets? Here's one of my favorites - No app to sd UNLESS the app is "at least 1 gig in size" (so why sell the device with the external sd slot?)

lol, I know when I was doing research on the s3, I found a custom rom that would switch the interal and external sd cards
Oh yeah? Will you share, please? I'm not rooted - yet. Thinking I'll wait until my factory warranty is up - then again...

Well said. My first smarty was blackberry - no joke - I thought I was made, man. Then HTC Inspire blew my socks off. In a couple months I was up for an upgrade. Did my research and got the powerful sgs3. OMG and all that! But now I'm sooo bummed. No sd recognition other than memory capacity. Sammy says it's just the way they made it. When I said their promotions didn't reveal the fact that there was no "app2sd" capability UNLESS the app used 1g+ (I found that tidbit out only days ago), the response was something close to 'sorry about your luck.'
I dunno how this looks to others, but I feel that the sgs3 was misrepresented. Whether deliberately or not, that's not my issue. I'm no dev or geek, so when you sell me on the monster memory, unequaled personalization, and myriad other bells n whistles, I'm gonna expect that ability. But don't tell me it's mine with an after-the-fact 'btw just the phone and some of its power are yours; you'll never be the 'administrator' unless you wanna void our warranty... ' I'm just saying...

Stop crying about apps to sd-card here is what you need : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849857
I hear this is the place to ask so, I'll take a swing. SG3 vs HTC OX+? I'll be picking one up tomorrow. I've read the reviews. Each seems to have pros and cons. The HTC is much faster, the SG3 has a memory card slot, removable battery, and a bigger support base. I'm hoping for some real world input please..

Things you don't like about the Galaxy Note II T889

Here is what I don't like:
1. When you wake up the phone from sleep there is a noticeable delay.
2. After you hang up the phone, there is a delay of about 3-4 seconds before you are brought back to the dialer.. Until then you're just shown the "Call ended.." message. Thats quite annoying because you have to wait another 3-4 seconds before re-dialing.
3. MTP.. I have never gotten it to work on this phone. After downloading the official Galaxy Note II drivers from samsungs website all I ever get is "Hardware missing" or something like that. I really miss the plain old USB Mass Storage.
4. When you bring the phone to your ear the screen turns black, (thats good), but after you take it back down to see the screen, there's a gap of about 2 seconds before it turns back on. very annoying.
So these are the 4 things I have noticed that I don't like.
Kinda SLIPPERY

I think if you press the back button or home button to go back to whichever screen you need, it works based on my experience.
Like if i just ended a call, pressing the home button takes me home right away without any delay.

What if you wanted to redial? Try it. You can't get back to the dialer without waiting 3 seconds.

You are complaining about common problems on different phones.

I hate how you have to press home to go back to the home screen after an end call. I want it to go direct to the home screen after a call ends. I had to install an app for that: "On Call End". Works great.

I don't think he is complaining, more just expressing his thoughts.
If they are common problems on different phones then that means exactly that, different phones. Not all phones. I'm not trying to be rude but I think all the OP was trying to say is that the four things he listed kinda bothers him, nothing more, nothing less.

Wow OP, you are one spoiled person. All the problems you listed are way too minor to annoy a normal human being.
Download Flipboard and read the news, see how not having food to eat is annoying the rest of the world.

The biggest complain I have with the Note 2 is the stylus not able to control the menu and back buttons.
I agree with you, that is the most annoying thing about this phone by far. It's one of the biggest reasons I don't use the stylus me consistently. Great point.

While I do agree that these problems may be minor: With all due respect, this is a website about mobile devices and development, and this thread is specifically for the issues regarding the user experience of the T-mobile Note 2.
There is nothing to say that the OP did not start a blog for starving families in third world countries on an appropriate website, or that he lacks common sense and or compassion towards major economic problems. . . as is implied by your remark.
Furthermore, problems must be addressed, not ignored. Many minor problems compounded can become a major one, eroding away the cumulative ease of use and overall responsiveness of the user experience.
Many people like myself regard our phones as valuable business tools rather than toys. It is important to have a high performance tool to efficaciously compete in today's "hi-tech" market.
Getting edge only speeds when using it unlocked on AT&T :banghead: yeah theres so little flaws I had to blame something it cant control .... yet.

I didn't like that it sometimes didn't want to charge as A/C...even though it was plugged in the wall it thought it was charging through USB which took for ever. Changed the USB cable and it seems to be working good now. So I had 1 thing I didn't like...not anymore! There's nothing I don't like about this phone! Ha!

Excuse me? Yes, we live in America and can afford nice things. That said, if we are spending $300, or as much as $700 or $800 off contract, we expect these products to continue to improve over time. The intent of this thread was clearly a constructive one. Developers can't know what we want improved if we do not voice our opinions. Get off your moral high horse.
I think the white is too warm or dirty in my taste.
Other than that, I have no complaint.
