Charging station - General Accessories

What is a good charging station for multiple I phones ipads and micro usb devices.
I want to charge multiple (4-8) devices at once.
Anyone have any good suggestions?
Thanks

Don't have any suggestions but you could always try to make one out of simple things such as legos or knex. This is if you don't mind spending some time though.

They have some charging valets at many stores. May not be big enough for what you want, but try Staples or other Office Supply stores.

I second this!
I made a LEGO dock for my Nexus 7, using the nice flat pieces to smooth it out and a small gap underneath to allow for a micro usb cable to gon under. Trust me, saves so much hassle searching online for a "decent" dock.
Oh, and it's great fun

The designer was soo dumb.
Imagine how cool could a landscape dock look like, it could work as a nght clock too.
I have one of the docks. It is stupid that you have to plug in the phone manually, but for now I guess its the best we can get. The blue LED is a bit of a problem when you're using the phone and dock as a bedside clock.
Also, if you get the dog, turn the phone into a fancy clock with LightningBug app. It's like one of those mood things that plays sounds and visuals to calm you down or make you sleep. Looks awesome in the dock, like some super high tech alarm clock.
I suppose the big problem with gettin a dock is that the usb is in the side of the phone so it have to have a rotating holder too.

Has anyone seen a landscape dock for the phone? I cant see the point of a dock that you still have to plug a cable into!

I agree, you want it to be simple and not have to struggle with a cable if you want to dock your phone, so, does anyone know a docking station that does not require a cable?
Ok i found a landscape dock for Blackberry Storm 2, which is ALMOST same size, but the position of the usb can be incorrect. I dont have 20$ to try, if somebody would like, here : http://shop.crackberry.com/blackberry-charging-pod/5A100A5980.htm
They failed bigtime on this! How hard would it be to make one... I thought that someone in hong kong would be banging out loads of these.
How about this? cgi. ebay .com/NEW-HORIZONTAL-CHARGER-DOCK-BLACKBERRY-STORM-2-9550-/350443766033?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item5198138111#ht_4520wt_943

This Desire Z dock would almost be perfect if it weren't for the fact that the mini port is located futher back on the Desire Z rather than dead-center like it is on the Wildfire. It may fit with a bit of sanding but I wouldn't give it any hope if you have a bulky case on the phone.
There must be something out there that fits or is bigger.
Bigger isn't really a problem as any space between the connector and the backwall can be padded out (I would actually prefer it to be too big as that gives more flexibility with fitting 3rd-party cases) and who really cares if the dock is too long or if the front of the phone overhangs the front of the dock a little?
As long as the phone sits securely and is easy to drop on and lift off, I'd be happy.
I think i saw one nice dock for WF at play.com, check there if ur from european country.

Galaxy S2 Inductive Charging IN PROGRESS

So I think it's finally time to get this going. I'm going to be taking apart and installing Touchstone wireless charging into my Hercules Galaxy S2. The parts are on order (I was going to do this with a PowerMat charger I had lying around but then I found out it's not compatible with the cheaper touchstone system so I ordered that instead). Should be getting pictures and guide (maybe video too) by the end of next weekend. Stay tuned.
This will be awesome!
Pretty cool thing.
Someone else did it with a touchstone dock. The microUSB port is kind of blocked, here but the kid who made it has another version of it, as well, with hidden cables and whatnot.

I saw that. The idea with this mod is to be similar to his Galaxy S mod that has the free USB port. I'm not a fan of wires sticking out. Should be getting the Touchstone gear tomorrow and then the foil on Friday (copper foil). I'll do a bigger write-up when it's complete including materials and directions. As far as I know, nobody has done this yet with the GSII, which is why I want to do this and kind of add on to what the other guy did but for this newest generation
This is gonna be awesome.
I nearly broke my Vibrant when I did that last year. I'm not going through that experience again.
On a bright note: I now know how to completely take it apart and piece it back together in 5 minutes.
very excited for this! looking forward to the results/write-up and maybe if i have the balls ill give it a go myself . Good luck.

Question, Could the TouchStone interfere with the NFC communications ?
had no idea there was no support for our phones on this, i'm definitely interested as i dont like plugging and unplugging my charger all the time It'd be even more awesome to intuitively convert this into a wireless car charger haha
What would be really awesome is if there was a way to not only have wireless charging but have like a 5 for radius for the charging as well that doesn't muck with the NFC

This was my first thought... would the induction field pump power into the NFC antennas and cause damage... but I'm not an engineer which is why I love the XDA community.
I dunno of it would mess with the NFC coil but I am thinking not unless it is "tunned" to the same frequency as the induction coil, them again on the other hand id that was true then we couldn't have our phones around ANY magnetic field. I would wager that the NFC coil may be grounded out already somehow, that is not to mention that it is "tunned" to a specific frequency as well...... justa thought

Induction Mod completed
I attempted the induction mod and was successful. I soldered a wire to the same pin as shown in the video for the Galaxy S. I need to clean it up with copper foil tape but it is functional. Putting the battery cover back is difficult because of the limited space between the battery and cover. I didn't take any pictures but if anyone has questions I would be happy to assist.
Can you take some pictures so that we can see and how snug was the battery cover? Does it interfere with the NFC?. Right now I an rocking the nexus extended battery and it's cramped to say the least
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
My only camera is my phone so I can't take any pictures. I have not tried the NFC function on my phone but I think the coil may interfere. As far as the battery cover is concerned, there is not enough space if you are using a larger battery.
Dang, if you happen to acquire a digital camera I would love to see pics and how it was put together kinda like a how to

No way that thing will hold a Galaxy Nexus securely. The USB port on the phone is already a very weak connection. Not to mention, that thing will probably destroy your port even more than it might already be.
This would actually be great. Might have to put some money towards it.
i'm much more interested in the software that lets you use your phone as a display.

He didn't say it wasn't possible, just that it's going to wreck the micro-usb port, which it most likely will.
Using the micro-usb to hold up the phone on its own weight? You’re asking to break the port and possibly ruin the phone.
no thanks
I dont think there should be any issues with this as long as you are careful when first putting it in the micro slot. Just like with a dock or regular charging cable, if you jam it in there, its going to cause havoc. And if it does break it, my phone is under a yr warranty so I wont mind. I think this is going to be a great product. I will write a review once they are shipped in Sept.
I thought about getting one for the car, but then I thought what would happen at a hard braking situation... I'll pass.

Nexus 7 Desktop Docks

So upon researching dock options, I see that the official dock is in the works, with a MSRP US of 50 dollars:
http://www.slashgear.com/nexus-7-premium-cover-and-dock-details-leak-31240960/
Has anyone come across any viable third party alternatives? I'm so ready to use this with my PS3 controller to get my gaming on.
Edit: Well, looks like I missed a digit on the date. Ignoring my ignorance, let's talk docks! I'm very interested in 3rd party options or the viability of the old one functioning with the 2013 refresh.

Also I think the new Nexus 7 doesn't have Pogo-pins? I don't have mine around me to confirm.
That's the old Nexus 7 dock
The date on that article is for July 31st, but back in 2012. It must be referring to the old Nexus 7.. the clue was the mention of a 3-pin connector on the side.
Right, so edited the OP to accommodate my terrible ability to read dates.
It looks like there are barely any options currently for a dock of sorts.
There is the incipio stand here:
http://www.shopandroid.com/incipio-fixie-universal-tablet-stand/6A39A12239.htm
There are a couple of Qi charging stands as well:
http://www.androidpolice.com/tags/qi-charging-stand/
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/qi-wireless-charging-pad-and-stand-p38173.htm
But again, this doesn't allow data transfer. It would be nice to place the N7 in a dock that is constantly connected to my desktop or by my bed for an alarm function.
The QI charging stand will take care of the second need, but data transfer would be nice as well. I'm very surprised we don't have docking pins.
I'm assuming being able to charge the device isn't a necessity, since you linked to the Incipio stand. I actually bought a black plastic stand at my local TJMaxx(or Ross, or Marshalls. One of those, lol) for only $4.99 or $5.99. I bought it for my Asus Infinity (10.1" tablet), and it works great in both landscape and portrait! Since getting my '13 N7 a few days ago, I've put it in the dock in both landscape and portrait as well. It also works great in either position! I've had my Note 2 in it, and even my Evo LTE before . Though, some of the display is blocked when either my Note 2 or Evo LTE is in this dock/stand. Just stating how versatile it is by being able to hold my 10.1" tablet, 7" tablet, 5.5" phone, and even 4.7" phone, all with perfect stability! If interested, you might want to check online for something similar. Knowing how well it works and how discreet it really is, I wish I would have bought at least 3 of these when the store had them in stock!
I'm gonna put some pics of the stand in the following post. Also pics of my Infinity an '13 N7 in both portrait and landscape position.

Microcenter has those for $6.99.
Another cheap option would be small photo easels. Foldable and prop your tablet up for useability anywhere in the house. They are often available at the dollar stores, so you really can't beat the price.
Microcenter has a nice-looking metal stand that raises the tablet if you want to use it as a secondary monitor.
None of these are docks, of course, but the design of the Cygnett stand would keep the charging cord out of the way.

I wonder if there will be an Official dock that lets you:
1. Charge
2. Expand TV HDMI out
3. USB port for Hard drive access
I really want the Nexus & FHD to be a Home entertainment player...may be a remote/ Or Kinect like gesture control app built in with the dock
Hope this comes true...it will be the best Combo for a home unit!

It is pretty lightweight! It's hollow inside though, so you could easily add some weight to it! It hasn't been an issue for me in the few months that I've had it. My Asus Infinity is a pretty big device, but this stand handles that tablet just fine. Here's a picture of the bottom of the stand showing that it's hollow, but still has plenty of unused space inside of it to add your own weights to it if you wanted.

I completely agree with you with an official Asus/N7 dock!! Charger is a must (obviously), an HDMI port would be great, at least 1 USB port, and a 3.5 auxiliary jack for audio!! If they would release an official dock with all of these features, then I would not think twice about buying it(assuming it's less than $100, should be around $50)!!!! Even without the HDMI port, as long as the other 3 are included then I would buy it! ChromeCast is going to be a pretty common household item for all Android users, especially given the low price point! That said, an HDMI port isn't a feature that I would choose over an auxiliary audio jack! Sure I could just stream music to my home theater system using ChromeCast, but I also have smaller speaker systems that I'd like to be able to use without connecting via bluetooth(Jawbone Big Jambox for example), and they won't be nearly as loud as my home theater for when I'm not trying to have everyone in the house listen to the same thing as I am!!
Also, my Asus Infinity has a mini HDMI port built in to the side of the tablet. I mainly use it for gaming anyway, but especially when I'm wanting to play on my flat screen TV!! Just so easy with the Sixaxis app, a PS3 controller, an having the HDMI port right on the tablet! I have an HDMI - mini HDMI cable hooked to my TV at all times. Basically, I said all of that just to say that this is probably the main reason that an HDMI port on the official dock isn't really that important to me, and why I'd prefer the 3.5mm jack over the HDMI port. That's IF I couldn't have both anyway!

Freaking pricey for a wireless charger though!! QI chargers can be found around $30 pretty easily now. The dock you linked should have at LEAST a 3.5mm port on the back if nothing else for them to have thy audacity to charge that much for it!!! Geez!!!

have you seen the Tylt Vu? thats $100.
But this really isnt that pricy imo...I'd much rather pay $50 to have an elegant dock / stand that will charge in portrait AND landscape than buy a $30 pad that you have to lay the tablet down on and thus lose the functionality of it. Plus it wont slide off on this.
Putting a nice dock with a qi charger warrants another $20 to me.
