Awesome! Where can I find more info on this project?

That's awesome. I was hoping it would come here.

Hello all!
I am one of the Linux on Android developers and I have been assigned to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As we have just added official support for this device, there are a lot of bugs to workout and fix. Please report bugs here as well as ask any questions you have about the project. Cheers!

WEM,
I'm a kernel developer working with mainline. I've done development on a wide range of devices, most recently on simply porting the newer mainline cpu scheduler/governor code back to the android kernels.
How can I help you guys out? You opened the thread but provided no link to the information (not everybody will realize your banner is a direct link). Source code for the project? UI? Modifications to the graphics drivers? Documentation?
Thanks! We really appreciate this level of work on our devices

We have not officially announced this yet, but I am working on a Linux on android custom ROM. This will be available for only officially supported devices after r release until we can port it to more. However, we may need a custom kernel so you may be able to help us if we don't make one ourselves.

Cool stuff!

Totally off topic but your banner kinda looks like it spells SOPA, just noticed it and now I can't unsee it...

Oh. Wow I never noticed that. Well we are having a logo competition right now so it will be changing.

As this app has a free and paid version we have not yet released source. We so plan to release though foe the free version of the app at a later time.

I posted links to our main thread of development.

Went a head and took the plunge and installed ubuntu and I really struggled geting it run smooth. I tried it on multiple roms with multiple kernels and just lagged beyond being functional. Even on stripped down overclocked roms it was laggy. On the other hand Backtrac runs like a champ on every rom I've tried. Sure has been fun. Running a Linux operating system on a phone has a high "wow" factor!
I'm using the 6 euro or whatever version.

I will have to take a look into the ubuntu images and see whats wrong because they should be working just fine. Ill do some testing with my nexus and see what I can find. Expect an update with a lot of Gnex bug fixes soon!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to play with debian here in a few minutes. Absolutely love what y'all have done; its fantastic!
As far as the ubuntu goes (at least for my part ) it may have to do with the kernel/ rom combos I tried. So much can play in. I did find that clear as much memory as possible makes a marked difference.
Is there a way to save what we have done or is this running like an iso disc image? Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Yes there is. It should auto save all your settings and installed programs. If its not working for you let me know and give me some details about what's going on and I'll be there to assist you the whole way through fixing it.

[REQUEST] Galaxy Nexus Cupcake/Doughnut/Eclair ROM

Hey I know this should be in Development Forum but I'm not allowed to post there yet, was wondering if it would be possible for a Dev to make a ROM to run Cupcake/Doughnut/Eclair on the GNexus?
Obviously not for a daily driver but for simple curiosity to its possibility and its speed. I imagine that on such a powerful device such a simple OS would run blazingly fast.
Feel free to repost this in the right forum, actually please do.
AJ
Q: Why the hell would you want to do that ? :| You want fast ? Try a 4.0.3 ROM and that's it. End of story.
I wouldn't use it daily, I just never got to use the old android versions and I think it would be a cool gimmick. If the G1 can run ICS why can't the Nexus run Cupcake?
I'm currently running the AOKP (Kang Project), I'd say its the best ICS ROM I've come across
Why would you ever want to do this? it would be equivalent to taking your PC and putting windows 95 on it.....Why would you. 4.0.3 ICS works fine, it doesn't slow the phone down any, downgrading to an older OS isn't going to show you some amazing massive speed increase.
While it may be possible, I think you can assume from the tenor of the responses so far that it isn't too likely that you'll find a lot of people interested in investing the time to make it happen.

This may be the only constructive reply here, thank you. I just wondered if it would be possible or if anyone else was curious enough to try it. Never mine, I'm holding out for a sense ROM, again not a daily driver just a time to time use thing
as ittekaimus said, you'd be unable to run those.
all those versions of android required physical buttons, so you won't have home, back, or menu unless you added softkeys, would would basically require a rewrite of the original code. and no one is going to do it.

[ROM] MeeUee [MIUIANDROID]2.1.6

My port of miui
Will be updated every week
Some might know me from lg g2x samsung vibrant...
Newest build. Visit miuiandroid.com or miui.com for changelog weekly.
Fixed camera
Fixed auto rotate
Fixed compass
SD cards
Issues: phone.apk will force close for a little while. It will happen every reboot. After that it will connect and everything will be perfectly fine
I have disabled themes because they don't fully play nice with xhpdi screens
If you want to reenable them, create an empty folder in /data/system called "theme"; basically '/data/system/theme/'
Only things that I've been able to apply with 100% no issues are icon packs or fonts. Try at your own risk

Excellent. We now have two folks working on MIUI ports. The more the better.
Question: Are you doing MIUI.US (US), MIUIAndroid (UK), or some other locale like Galnet?
I believe DroidVicious's port is of MIUI.US. It would be great to have a choice between US/UK/Gal/etc.. as there are usually minor (but for some folks highly valuable) differences.
Or....(and I didn't even think about this...) Is this the GB-weekly version of MIUI?? Damn if that wouldn't be an interesting find.)
Its a self port and translated/deodexed. I don't affiliate with "teams" or miui groups.

The evo 3D had the same issues with the themes cause of the hdpi thing. I wonder if the themes they created will work. I'll ask pstevep rrom XDA if he can help me figure it out.

Its not just that the pngs are stretched, it will stretch soft keys over entire display when status bar is changed. Icons work fine. I'm trying to patch all affected apks to use xhpdi (completely new for 720p devices) but no current themes will work then and it might be almost impossible with little to no source.

Cool, besides the phone fc is the rom fully functional like sms, mms, 4g..etc?
As I don't have the GSM version I'd prefer not to support something I don't actually own at least not right now.

I'm on this now. Quite impressive. Everything seems to be working.
Very smooth even at 1.2ghz where the other port sputtered a bit at 1.35.
Graphics are off a bit but that's to be expected.
Wifi, data, market. All good so far.

what parts of the graphics are off? Are things not aligned right or are sum icons small or larger than they need to be
I'm using adw ex which fixes the alignment of the Widgets and trash can. I'm not sure how much lines up or doesn't as I only used it long enough to run titanium.
I'm not in a rush to flash back to stock.
time to benchmark, maybe flash a kernel assuming it's 4.03.

Open WebOS source released, port anyone?

http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/31/open-webos-being-released-today-in-beta/
The first beta of Open WebOS code is scheduled to hit HP's servers later today. Anyone think we have a chance of seeing a port for the good ol GNex? Would anyone even be interested? I know I am!
People have expressed interest in donating to the first dev to get Open WebOS up and running, so devs take this into account

I don't use it on my TouchPad. I feel it's too buggy and too limited with what it can do. At first I loved WebOS now I don't see the point of booting into it.
Maybe when people who actually care about making it better get their hands on the source code things will be different. The dev community is awesome with WebOS.

Yeah it's mostly comprised of gestures, and with some of the Preware tweaks, it could be amazingly smooth and functional, and has the potential to be able to run android because a while ago some devs almost ported dalvik, and that was when it was closed source

In my opinion, this is a great idea! I've played with webos before and it is amazing! Pretty cool! One thing I really hate was that the app store only had like handful of apps.
I'm still waiting for the stable version of the firefox os...
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
Seeing this running on our devices would be really awesome. I always wanted to try WebOS, but opted for Android instead.
I never dreamed that Android would be the open beast it is, and our Galaxy Nexuses give us power to do whatever we want.
I wish I had the skills to contribute to getting this running on our device, but I'll kick in a few dollars and moral support

INFORMATION ON NEXUS EVOLUTION
Nexus Evolution is built off of AOSP now. Did this because I wanted to start the framework all from stock and put what I personally wanted into the rom from the start. Vendor folder is based off of the developers from EVERVOL. I did this because I liked the way they had there set up and the scripts and I was somewhat a noob so to be honest I was lazy and lacked the time to do it at times. Rom is very fast and responsive and somewhat light which the goal I'm heading towards. I hope you enjoy!!!

INFORMATION ON ME & NEXUS EVOLUTION
Now I am not a full time developer. I am a wanna be developer learning android more and more every day.I have been trying to learn it since the og droid days. Started off theming for a long time then decided to finally step it up a notch. I am not a pro at github and I am still learning it just like I am with building a rom. You can see this as I deleted my FRAMEWORK_BASE a dozen times because of me having to do pull requests and this was messing up my source on my desktop. I do this as a hobby and am learning all this on my own. I didn't go to school for development.

Nice rom, with just the right amount of mods, not too overly crowded, works great with the #283 Air Kernel. Could'nt make the start-up tweaks to stick though, had some missing init.d files...so I just copied pasted some files over from a similar rom, works ok now.
Really a greate ROM!!! Fast, smooth and very good battery life.. Thanks to developer!!!!

I loaded the ROM and it feels really nice. I have been unable to get the Darkhorse theme to load. It just bootloops. Any secret to getting it working? I tried all the normal CWM tricks.
Make sure you flash the maguro one...works fine here.

Unfortunately I don't see one that's maguro specific.

Its the ones that doesn't say "only Toro"
The one for maguro is the first one in the current list...... DarkHorse Revolution 2.1 (Evolution 2.1.1 Only!!!!!)
The second one in the list is the DarkHorse Apps, you would want to flash those as well to complete the look of the theme.
I got it to work. When I did the download yesterday and again last night the latest version listed as 2.1 actually downloaded 2.0 (maybe he hadn't uploaded 2.1 yet) which didn't match up. This morning the latest listed download 2.1 did in fact download as 2.1, the Gapps also went from V1 to V2. After downloading these everything went smooth. Looks awesome and I can't wait to take it fro a ride. Thanks for all your help.

Facts:
- -O3 Optimized
- Based off of CM
- Themed apps with the idea of beauty and elegance in mind. (WIP)
- All non-system/Google apps you see (Experience Project, Help Center, Changelog, etc), have been built from scratch by me. Unique, right?
Why?
Android is cool... right?
Yeah.
It seems like it is the same thing every time. You download a ROM, set it up, blah blah blah.
That gets boring. And boring is bad. It leads to trouble, and trouble is even worse.
I want this ROM to be YOUR ROM. Not some 'ROM' you use. F*** that. Originality is cool.
I personally created the following apps you will see:
-Experience Project
-HelpCenter
-GAppsCenter
-XPChangelog
and am currently working on several more. This is MY way of breaking out, and trying something original. Let's hope it'll turn out decent, right?
Oh, and the freaking awesome new MMS you're going to see, was personally, and painstakingly, modified by me. Consider it 'THE' MMS for 4.4, or rather, what I think it should've looked like. That to me is my absolute prized posession. I had dreamed about doing it for months, gained the knowledge, and executed the s*** out of it. Hahah. We're talking HOURS and HOURS of tedious editing to make sure it looked PERFECT. So, please, try giving that a try, instead of using HangOuts. Even for 5 minutes. Or at least pretend to like it so I don't get bummed out. <-- Ignore this for now
All joking and immaturity aside though, I worked incredibly hard on this ROM, doing nearly all of the work by myself (Seriously, Chromium is an awesome artist). So, please, enjoy this ROM.

Reserved because Anchorman 2 is actually happening
And one more because I thoroughly enjoy rock music.

DL'ing now. I'll try it out. Haven't tried any 4.4 Roms yet, but this sounds interesting. Does the messenging app work on any ROM? Even if its 4.3?

Mbq. Any way to change dpi. I have a strict 320 or GTFO out policy since the first slim builds on the gnex. Makes me wanna kill kittens.
Other than that, fantastic job sir. Messaging app looks outstanding.

I'm really sorry guys.
0.1.1 is on its way.
In lieu of priority, I'm going to hold off updating any changelogs.

Don't apologize. It's called alpha for a reason. This is what we are doing, debugging.

Here's a log of my boot. Maybe it'll help track the data issue down

Awesome. Thanks man.
I'll post a build WITH a dialer, and try and fix that data thing by the time I roll this thing out to a whole bunch of devices.
How do you guys like it so far? Well, what works of it. Hahah. Please, be brutally honest.
