[Kernel] devs needed - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Over on the N7100 thread they have a pegasus kernel and I've started the conversation on getting it ported to the Sprint SPH-L900 but this is all over my head. I need intervention by someone who understands all of this. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33610076&postcount=635

You can't "port" a kernel. Why don't you just ask him to support our device? He might, and it shouldn't be much of a hassle since it's almost identical.

Just ask huh? Ok, Viperboy please dev for the Note II.

Lol, well there will be a ROM coming. But it's not done yet. As far as kernels, I'm not a kernel guy myself.

I believe AndreiLux, says in his thread that he doesn't have a sprint device so he can't directly test and figure out the changes he needs to make if any. He says that he's perfectly willing to port it over if someone plays guinea pig and downloads the tmobile version kernel and loads it on their sprint device lol.

Just tried it. I wiped cache/dalvic, flashed, wiped again, fixed permissions, reboot, prof....soft brick. Restored backup via TWRP and all is well again. I'm on Jellybomb but that shouldn't cause an issue to my knowledge. I didn't try the ODIN version so that might work but this did not. Can't wait for one that will boot for our device. That Kernel looks boss.

be sure to let AndreiLux know your results from flashing. The faster we get the information he needs, the faster he can port the kernel to the sprint note 2.

I'm actually very interested in learning to do this and seeing if I could eventually get something going... but I'm not sure where to start. I have the kernel source that Samsung released, but I'm looking for some guidance regarding starting points.

Setup a build environment. Learn how to use git. Plenty of guides around to help you get started.

Just found this thread. Funny.
Anyway all I needed from the beginning was a Sprint boot.img, and since nobody gave that to me until yesterday I didn't do much yet. Anyway the kernel is up in the link above.

Thank you for supporting our device AndreiLux! I've heard nothing but praises about your kernel and was anxious to see it on the Sprint Note 2. This might be an odd question, but how do you decide what new features or changes to add to your kernel?
Edit: I have another thought I was wondering about. Since we have you custom kernel now, shouldn't the ExtSd2InternalSD v3.1 mod work on our devices (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931500)?

Unfortunately it says the the report wasn't confirmed by Samsung, and it also says that its still gonna have to go through the carriers... dunno how att is because I'm new but I know vzw is a huge Hassel when it comes to pushing through any upgrades. Hopefully the code Samsung wrote form its handset gets leaked though because then we will have the capability to flash it without waiting for carrier approval.

Despite the fact that it's not really official (no Samsung confirmation) it's still good news. I doubt this would be an invented news, there's gotta be some truth behind it... now as for the carriers' part in this, that's another matter!

My theory is that the Jelly Bean leak since is actually a Sammy leak and is still being worked on by Tmobile and AT&T uses the almost the same kernel both d2 the devices. The new jelly bean leak has LTE settings in it meaning that you can set AT&T LTE/PTA APN settings and use 4G LTE in theory. Their are risk because the leak contains a new baseband, you can always reflash back to an older baseband though so this is not the biggest deal. The update does not include a new bootloader so no worries their. And you can always flash back to ICS. In my mind this may be worth fixing up a few files to see if it works. I'm going to give a try. I'll report back.
Looking forward to what you uncover drew

The system and everthing seems to copy over fine, it's the kernel that's giving me trouble right now. I'm going to work on it some more and see what I can find out, but by that time I'm sure an AT&T version will be out.
I'm still working on it and will continue.
What about using ktoon's or faux' JB kernel in the meantime?

I'm not able to run this rom as I'm on vacation and need my phone but what I can tell you is there are some new added tmo apps and at least 75% of the apps and firmware has been updated. Build date was July 4th so its been out a while but only on updated phones and not released by Samsung
I would also suggest upgrading the modem also posted in another thread.

NVM. I didnt realize you answered this already...might give it a whirl. One thing I'm hoping for is that the threshold from 4g to Edge has changed. As it stands now my phone goes to edge a lot when I hold the phone with my left hand. Usually when my dbm is around 95+ with 8 asu. dbm skyrockets to 113 quickly and goes to edge and stays there until I either put the phone down or flip it upside down so the WAN antennas arent covered.

Tester Needed: MA4 De-odexed

Hey everyone I am looking for someone to test out a zip for me that I made using Cygwin. Its a De-odexed version of MA4.
I haven't seen anyone do this so far in development and I saw someone asking for a de-odexed version of it.
This zip should work as it was done with Cygwin. I also zip aligned all of the apks in the proccess and included init.d support.
And thanks to Sextape and the gang for providing to us the MA4 tar
I should include the famous "I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone".
Anyways here is the link to the Rom I made.

People can morph their phones all they want and perhaps I was a little too rude about that but as far as overclocking, I would give the rom time to settle and then benchmark it. You will find that the stock kernel, unmolested, will match the OC kernels out there.
This was done 5 minutes ago after I reinstalled my apps, recharged while letting the kernel sit for about 2 hours.
Mine isn't overclocked

How long does it usually take to boot?
Wanted to try it out but I waited 5 minutes and it didn't boot.
Did I miss something or..?

Did you get to the boost mobile load up screen? Perhaps bad download or flash. If you got to the boost screen it was loading.

I did see, but I waited 5 minutes as stated before. Does it take longer?

Try waiting a bit longer as it does take a while (huge file size to load and cache). If not try redownloading.

I have a 19 month old, so I feel your pain brother. No hurry. Just did it from my laptop via pdanet at work, wanted to make sure it went through. And you've seen what I'm trying to do, is it exactly like this ROM in your OP?

Interesting. Guess I was wrong. I read that our bootloader wasn't able to support dual booting.

It works fine with it, been using it since it first came out. Give it a shot though, this is a BETTER APPROPRIATE thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 what the guy link above could lead to possible issues.

Thanks! I am curious as to how the kernels play out, since AOSP kernels and TW kernels are completely different. Seems interesting!

Just make sure your primary is TW and secondary is AOSP. Been using Wicked and Slim together. Use the utilities zip to wipe in recovery if you want to upgrade roms, don't use regulary recovery features. It's actually very easy to setup and run. Seems harder than it is.
