Let's get DAGr8 working on the Note 2!!!! |OP| #1 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

----------------------------------------------------------------------- WE DID IT!!!!! -----------------------------------------------------------------------
ATTENTION: What you are about to read is a short story of recognition for all who made this thread become a reality. The people listed here are a great group, and deserve respect as an honest, and fun family of proud NOTE 2 owners. Please read on.....
If you are reading this, you are either part of our happy family, or welcome to join. There are no membership dues or fees. The people listed below are responsible for making this thread what it is, by donating what they could, to attain our primary goal: To get an excellent DEV DAGr8 involved with us, by donating the monies needed to buy him a Note2. Not only did these people accomplish our primary goal. They did so with class, honor, and dignity! Most importantly, they did it with respect for all involved. I am proud to report we had no haters or flamers. This may be an XDA record (B.JAY?) for this type of thread. I, for one, have never seen one go this smoothly and with nearly 100% follow through. We had 36 pledges, of which 33 followed through!!! That is a 91.6% follow through rate! We also had 4 people, who did not get here during the pledge drive, that stood up and donated. Everyone who donated deserves our utmost, and equal respect. I, for one, respect you all, greatly. If you are a note owner, and are benefiting from their hard work, please stop by, say hello, and even hit their thanks button. They deserve it! If you feel your name should be included, or if I somehow missed you, please PM me for inclusion. I too make mistakes. I'm only human! I apologize, in advance, for any errors, and assure you: they will be corrected!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Yes, the time has come to start donations. Please direct your attention to |OP| #3 below for ALL updates! Thank you
Hello to all future NOTE 2 owners. My name is David aka aspidites73 and I have an important announcement to make. I have news regarding a conversation I had with an awesome DEV, DAGr8. for those who don't know him, start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1581065. It is not my imagination that we will be dangerously short on DEV competitiveness, come Friday. DAGr8 is willing to bring his GR8ness to the NOTE 2. I do not believe it is DAGr8's responsibility to purchase a Note 2 for the purpose of giving us the ability to have a better phone. His track record speaks for itself and, I dare say, he does not owe his work to anyone. This is why I am asking my fellow NOTErs to stand up and help DAGr8 help us by making our note, NOTE-2-licious. This is a solicitation for pledges to accomplish just that. Let's get DAGr8 working for us!!!! LET'S BY THE MAN A NOTE 2! Read on before you pledge.
1) I have no financial interest in this. I am only asking for pledges, your word that you will earmark what you can to make this happen.
2) DO NOT send anyone any money until we have enough pledges for DAGr8 to buy a NOTE.
3) Although DAGr8 has agreed to accept donations for the purpose of buying a note, He is in NO WAY involved in this collection of promises.
4) When we have enough pledges for him to buy a Note2, pay for any involved shipping and/or taxes, I will then ask that those who have pledged to donate that amount DIRECTLY to DAGr8. No one, myself included, has any right to ask for this money to go to them. DAGr8 will not do so, so DO NOT send anyone any money until we know we have enough pledged.
5) Once the pledges are in place, DAGr8 will keep me, and us, updated as to who has paid their pledge. If, within 60 days from the time donations begin, enough money has not been collected by DAGr8, He will refund your donation.
6) The second |OP|, right below this one will track pledges by name and amount.
7) You will make your pledge as a post in this thread. Once the 2nd |OP| has been updated with your name and pledge, It is considered official. You are expected to follow through or you will be cursed with a monkey up you @33 (not really)
8) You have the right to remain publically anonymous if you so desire. PM me for details.
9) Please do NOT pledge money if you do not intend on following through. You should only pledge money that you currently have, and will save until the time comes to donate. Once the money is donated, you will only receive a refund if the entire deal falls through. There is no exception to this rule.
10) If DAGr8 does not receive enough donations within 60 days of the beginning of the donation period, see rule #5.
11) DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY NOW! When enough money has been pledged, everyone will be asked to follow through and DONATE DIRECTLY TO DAGr8.
12) DAGr8 makes no promises other than to purchase a NOTE 2 with the funds he receives, and to try his best to produce quality work. NO ONE is guaranteed anything further. His track record should be enough!
These rules are non-negotiable. Simply stated: Tell us what you are willing to donate, watch the second |OP| for pledge amounts, follow through when asked. DAGr8 will post to this thread confirming it is legit and to provide his donation information. DO NOT SEND MONEY NOW!!!! Everyone will be made aware, via this thread, when it is time to donate. Please direct any questions to me via PM. I will then sticky them in Q&A form in |OP| #3.
LET'S GET THIS DONE PEOPLE. I will get things started with a pledge of $50.00 US! Let the pledges begin!!!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Yes, the time has come to start donations. Please direct your attention to |OP| #3 below for ALL updates! Thank you

Reserved |OP| #3
This |OP| is now the official update page for Operation: DAGr8! You may donate here: Donate to DAGr8 or by clicking the "donate to me" button in any one of DAGr8's posts. The money will go to him no matter which of the 2 links you pick. I will keep a running total of people who have followed through vs. people who have yet to follow through. We need 100% of the pledges to donate to make this happen. 1-2 more donations will seal the deal or, If everyone includes just $2.50 more when they donate, we are there. Thank you everyone! I was told this couldn't be done! We proved the doubters wrong!! Stay tuned my friends.
10:15 AM GMT -5 Update: we currently have 5 donations out of 34. Great start!
5:50 PM GMT-5 Update: Apologies for the delay in updates, had a Dr. appt. Anyhow, where are we? I'll tell you. Currently, and as of this writing, 10 people have confirmed their donation via PM to me (one posted but i'm not naming names ) We have also received 2 more pledges that I will update to |OP| 2 after this update. Also 3 additional people have contacted me with dates they will follow through. They are quite reasonable (1-3 days) . We are waiting to hear from 25 people, unless they have contacted DAGr8, as I have not talked to him since I just got home. I will do at least one more update tonight and start again bright and early (my time) tomorrow morning. Thank you all!! We are getting this done!!
Please stand by for update #3, I missed some people in my 5:50PM update. #3 by 8:00 PM GMT -5!
7:55 PM GMT -5 Update: I now have 13 confirmed donations and 4 PM's giving a date of donation to come. They are all within the next few days. There are currently 36 pledges so, as of donation day 1, we are slightly over 36%. If you include the people who have PM'ed me that they are going to donate withing the coming days, we are at 47%!!!!! Quite acceptable, if you asked me. I am working with DAGr8 to get a current dollar amount. I will do my best to get that info up tonight. Meanwhile, there are still 19 people who should be in contact with me via PM. To those people, please contact me with a confirmation number and dollar amount or a quick note as to when you will be donating, as soon as you can. No names, everyone knows where they fall. Thank you everyone who has confirmed donations. You have made a strong foundation. To everyone else, Thank you for your pledge. It is now time to donate and keep our plan alive! Until next update, Thank you!
9:57 PM GMT -5 Update: This will be the last update for the night. We are now at 15 confirmed donations and 40% of the pledged dollar amount ( +/- 1%). That figure is as of 8:00 PM GMT-5, when I received a paste from DAGr8 outlining the individual amounts. We have started off strong!!! Lets keep this rapid fire pace going. I, as are several of you, am expecting my Note 2 tomorrow (friday) by 4:30. I, for one can't wait. What I am really waiting for is some DAGr8 goodness to flash. I trust we all are. Please keep those pledges turning into donations. I trust you will! Next update, Friday AM. Thank you all very much for helping to make this happen!
Friday 8:00 AM GMT-5 Update: As of this post, we are up to 24 confirmed donations out of 36 pledges! Great job, everyone who has followed through. We continue to have 4 PM's, confirming their intention to donate. I expect them to follow through between now and the weekend. Included in the total are a couple donations that are bank transfers meaning the money has been donated, but will take several days to clear. That is no problem! We are still waiting to hear from 9 people who have pledged but not yet donated or PM'ed me. We still need 100% of the pledges to donate so please, if you are one of those 9, send me a PM, and let us know when you will follow through. No names, everyone knows who they are. Thank you all for your generosity! We are getting very close. We are at 73% (+\- 1%) donations. I believe the remaining 27% will donate soon. Today is payday for many so lets see what the day brings. Next update will be early afternoon GMT -5. Thank you!
Friday 1:15 PM GMT -5 Update: As of this post, we are up to 26 confirmed donations. We are still waiting to hear from 9 people who pledged. I urge those people to step up to the plate and make your donations. At least PM me and let me know your intentions. I donated, but you owe me nothing. Everyone else who donated deserves respect. They all pledged and made good on their pledges. Many donated more. Because of the additional donations, despite those 9 pledges, we are very close to reaching our goal! The 9 people who have yet to follow through represent an additional $235.00 USD that has not been collected but, we are only short by about 60% (+/-) of that amount. People who have PM'ed me and given a donate date have been included in this figure. I will have a more accurate figure tonight, when I get an update from DAGr8. I will post an update here, when I have that info. Please, for the sake of all who have already donated, follow through with your pledge. Our work has earned us that courtesy. Finally, A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has followed through. We will make this happen! I wont rest until it is accomplished. (I may sleep, but it won't be restful ) '
Edit Friday 1:15 PM GMT-5 has been re-done to accommodate for the error I made due to someone not knowing how to properly cut and paste (no names, D4G i want to say it (lulz))
Friday 7:00 PM GMT -5 update: Hello everyone, I am here with your much anticipated update. Everyone has done an excellent job, As of this writing we have received 30 confirmed donations! We are so close I wanted to delay this update but, I want everyone to know how good of a job they are doing, and that I am still on the job. I spoke with DAGr8 and we can officially confirm that there is only $35 dollars needed. This does not include any donations received in the past few minutes. I had to have a cutoff so I could make this post without constant editing. We are still waiting to hear from 6 people who collectively pledged $125. We need, at least 2 of them to step up in order for DAGr8 to pay his paypal fees, and still have enough left over to cover the phone and sales tax. Tax in Quebec is not what we are use to here in the USA (for those who live here ). It is 15% +/- .7%. I did not look it up myself, hence the +/-. Congrats to everyone who gave, regardless of the amount, every donation is appreciated. I expect DAGr8 to update this thread with a post from him, when he has acquired the phone. I know he is looking! I can't thank you enough for making this huge undertaking become a mere baby step away. I am very proud of what we did, in the face of the doubters. You should be proud of yourselves. A big high five to everyone! Stay tuned for another update tomorrow morning. Hopefully it is the final update to confirm we hit our goal to donate a phone we all will use, or are using, in order to help DAGr8 make his magic. We are all WINNERS!!!

Agreed cdshepherd, I don't think there is a device that doesn't have a following, weather cult or otherwise. I too like DAGr8's work. That is why I want this to happen. We will all benefit with DAGr8 working on the Note 2. Maybe this is another DEV's time to shine, who knows? I do know that my original Note ran its best on his Hybrid RC VII ROM. I didn't try all of the choices and I didn't like all of DAGr8's ROM's. For what I used my note for, The Hybrid was my choice. I hated having to give that up. If this works, we may not have too! Thank you, QwaarJet, and Artimus009 for your generous pledges. This is for everyone's benefit!

$25 here. Running liquid smooth right now....

Been using his kernel for the skyrocket and would for him to dev for the I317/M.
I'll donate $20.

Put me down for 20$ I have always appreciated DAGr8 devotion in his work and helping others in Development

Put me down for $25! I'd love to get DAGr8 working on the Note 2! Want to get a custom ROM ASAP!!!

Student here, dont know much about android community and what people have done to the devices but am learning more and more each day. Regardless i will pitch $20

Count me for $25

Good to see the possibility of DAGr8 possible doing dev support for the note 2. I heard since the internals are the same throughout all the note 2s (except for radio) that it may be possible to run a rom from any of them then flash your companies modem. It's yet to be confirmed though, at least last i checked.

Put me in for 30$, we need a real dev!

I got 20 on it.

Kinda a moan, but not really about a phone specifically

I would like to use a couple programs recommended and listed on this site. And, if successful and useful, I do plan to donate (that is for another post). BUT, I've not received any responses to my cries/pleas for help. The programs are nueLED and RC Mod.
Hehe... Good one!
Edit: If you are for real:
Donations takes place to credit what is done, or to help someone to dedicate their time working on a program, or just to be friendly- without expectations. You don't buy anything when you donate.
I don't believe that I would say this to someone, but here it comes:
People respond only when they want to respond. You shouldn't expect to get an answer. There is no human rights involved here buddy.

[Q] appropriate donation?

This might be like the question "how much do you tip at a restaurant" because its very suggestive based on personal biases, etc. But at least there is that 18% base consideration. SO, I'm asking what is a typical donation made to the awesome devs who give us these ROMs to play around with? I want to contribute but I don't want to go so low as to be insulting and of course i'm not going to go too high either.
So for those that have donated and/or received donations, what is your opinion?
I've personally donated everything from $2 - $20
I really don't think there's a wrong answer, and I don't believe there's such a thing as "too small" of a donation. I don't see how anyone could be insulted by receiving a donation, even if it's paltry. Little amounts add up, and anyone would rather get 100 donations of $1 than 2 donations of $10.
Just as a heads up - most of the donations I've made have not been met with any thanks; only a few people have ever said anything. And no, it wasn't correlated to the amount I gave. I only bring it up to tell my experience.
I don't take it as an insult if I don't get thanks; devs are busy! That said, if someone thanks me for a donation, it certainly increases the probability that I'll send them repeat donations in the future.
i think 5 bucks is the perfect donation. won't be missed by you at all. and if you want recognition for your gift, then it's not a gift. i personally give donations in 5 dollar increments.
I'll let a new less developed rom for lack of words, bake. I'll then follow it for a while and when it seems like it cant go any further I'll flash it. If its up to snub and the dev is interacting with the thread then I'll send a donation. As far as amounts, its all up to you. There is no right or wrong amount. When I was over on the captivate side, there was a member that sent somewhere near $130 to a dev because his captivate bricked and he was going to stop developing an insane rom. Which he then bought a new phone and continued developing the rom. your guess is as good as mine If his phone actually bricked. based off his sincerity in interaction with the community, it probably did. Thats enough of my ranting, you get the point.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Good points all around.

CLOSED - [REWARD] for Ice Cream Sandwich ROM

MOD EDIT: I am closing this thread. It has become pathetic the amount of trolling and arguing and complaining - you would think this was a thread with a bunch of high school kids if it wasn't for the timestamps saying otherwise.
In addition, after further review this effort falls short of the general XDA guidelines for bounty threads in that it is not for one specific developer, but instead a free-for-all for whomever gets something *done* first, and then that is a subjective nightmare.
And further, the idea of donating to an effort of this sort always leads to further the sense of entitlement which always infects XDA.
All pledges can be considered moot and you may choose to donate to whomever you want to.
put me down for $20 for full 1.0 release of ROM

Due to the rapid responses and at least one for even more than $20, we might get this REWARD up to 4 figures within 24 hours which would be an awesome stimulant for thosE capable of compiling a ROM for our beloved Sprint E4GT.
EVERYONE: Seems this thread has been moved to GENERAL. I don't care if they but it under LIEUTENANT or even CORPORAL as long as we get our ROM ASAP! Thanks y'all and tell your friends so we can make the total reward even more enticing and get our ICE CREAM SANDWICH even sooner!
UPDATE: We're already up to $165. GO TEAM GO !!!
I seen bounty threads in the past. The just don't work from what I saw. It's easy to pledge, but, when the day comes to paying it's just as easy to forget.
Personally I believe a bounty should be more organized. There should be a pot that people donate to. So, the money is actually there to help entice any developer to get more motivated. That would eliminate half ass promises. With this system we will be able to tell how much money one can make for fulfilling the desired request. Problem is deciding who is trustworthy enough to handle this pot.
If this system is somehow adopted I will be donating to the cause.
personally i was the first one to provide my confirmed donation for the OG Evo wimax on AOSP thread, so its on the honor policy. True there could be better ways to entice, but this is a start.
@OP - usually the subject of the thread is modified with the date and pledge amount total

Idea: Everyone who posts on this thread is giving us their XDA ID info. When it comes time for all of us to "pay up" I'd be happy to post a Shame Page to let everyone know whose word is worthless.
P.S. I'm also good as exposing "bad people" because criminals routinely try to purchase my software, printers & MICR cartridges or use them to commit crimes so I regularly help law enforcement catch and convict them via my Criminal Alerts page
OK people, let me know what you think or offer your own ideas!
keeping y'all honest !
Here are the people who have promised to donate so far. Maybe they can remove their posts but they can't remove mine!

$20 ilostmypistons
$25 digweed4me
$20 ehusidic
$20 expr
$35 humdrum2009
$160 Current Total
It's the HONOR SYSTEM. If you want the ROM and have any honor, post your $20 message below. I will continue updating the donors and total until we get the Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for our Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch!

Donations to developers

Let's get this thread going by listing donations we've made and to which developers. No need to post amounts as no matter how large or small your donation is, I'm sure the awesome devs will still appreciate it. The OP will be updated to list member names please be honest, we don't want a thread with fake donations. The devs for this phone deserve better than that! Thanks community.

Well intended, I know, but...

I think many would like to keep this private and see this as bragging. To me, it becomes about ego and false pride if you have to tell others about your charity.
But to each his own I guess.
I've given support to many in many devs in many different device forums, over the years because I appreciate the skill, time and work they put into it. Not large sums by any means but at least something when I can/I]. But I believe most devs do it for the fun of learning and tinkering. And then just getting some well deserved thanks is a huge thing (or is/was in my case) I know the donations are certainly appreciated and help give some motivation and cover expenses but some people just can't give all the time.
That's just my two cents - from an older guy who's been a tinkering with systems since when we actually had to write code on a punch card machine.
dang
my bad than people, it just seems to me that the majority of our devs are leaving so I thought this might help a few stay, or at least feel appreciated even though they are leaving. Lots of immaturity on these forums made a few leave, plus the s3...
I donated but next time I will think it twice. (I have my reasons)

If a dev is in it for the Donations, Then why would you want there work any way. You do not get the best work from people that do it for money. Oh and just to let you know they are not getting very much and that is not the reason we dev. We dev because it is fun.
Though I've seen a lot of people post their confirmation of donation in an open thread, I choose to donate privately when I am able to give at all. Though I'm not able to give as much as I would like for the amazing work we are given, I hope my fawning adoration makes up for it.
Stupid thanks limit
Word to the wise. Never donate to any "developer" asking for donations before any rom/kernel is released. Ive kept my eye on the whole swamp goblin donation scam. That seems to happen alot around different sites. I would think a user who pulls a scam like that would be banned? Its gotta be against xda rules?
Edit: Just checked Swamp Goblins Profile, He hasnt posted anything anywhere sense June 21, 2012.

The Dev performed the disappearing act...
Swamp Goblin doesn't believe he actually asked for donations, I think it's a perception issue.
I understand Devs have real lives and don't get paid for what they do (aside from occasional donations) therefore they are beholden to no one for ETAs, however when you request help to get a specific phone and promise a product for it then you do have an obligation to at least stay present in the situation. That doesn't mean you have to have it complete but you do need to be active in letting people know what's going on.
Also I agree with a post made in another thread regarding this, if you know you are too busy to put full effort towards a project on which you asked for a donated phone, then you shouldn't have ever started the process until such time when you were unencumbered by so much other stuff. I have to say that people were incredibly tolerant with his lack of output for quite some time and should be acknowledged for that, it has only been recently that people have grown wary of his actual intentions and started to question his motives directly.
My only real issue with the guy (other than his lengthy absences from posting any sort of information) is that he once commented that he was struggling with the sense build so he was going to spend time working on another ROM for another phone and then return to the E4GT. I don't recall exactly where it was and it may have even been edited by now but at the time I felt something was off.
Initially many of us were excited at the prospect of sense and may have allowed that excitement to color our normal judgement, I was in on the initial push to help him find a phone but I was looking at ebay and places where he might pick one up with his own money. Nevertheless, bygones I suppose.
Now, with all that said, I would hope these few instances of possible scams don't discourage people from donating. My only advice would be to pay attention to the Developer's work, reputation, support for existing products and interaction here on the forums. When we donate we do so in good faith and I'm happy to say that with the vast majority of the Devs here, we are well paid in return.
Sorry guys, but this thread is not a good idea at all. Just got off the phone with Cleo (yea, I'm that old) and she says she sees alot of name calling, pointing fingers, and bickering in this threads future. So I have to go with what she says.

[REQUEST] buildbox donation thread [info inside]

This is the official buildbox support thread. Many of you are probably wondering what a buildbox is... I will try to explain without getting too far sidetracked!
---Purpose---We are trying to raise money in support of multiple roms/devs. This is not for one particular dev, nor is it one particular rom. Consider this a donation to the community in which you are a part of. This is helping the devs have more resources at their disposal, and ultimately, helping you have a better rom! Please read below for more of an explanation.
---What is buildbox?---For the open source community (CM10, Paranoid Android, CNA, etc), the roms are built from source. Doing this is not very easy, nor is it quick! It takes a lot of time and effort. I don't want to simply 'thank' the devs and leave it at that. So, I have made a contribution to the open source community. I have commited a powerful server to the devs that choose to use it for building open source roms.
Now you say, "So what... they could use their own computer and build roms..."
Yes, they could. However, look at this. For many devs (especially since ICS and above), the build times have increased significantly!! I'm talking 4+ hours in some cases! In steps the buildbox. The buildbox (in it's current condition) has cut most build times to between 20 and 30 mins.
Then you ask, "Why does that matter to me?" Well, the quicker the rom is done, the quicker we discover bugs, and, in turn, can FIX bugs! Think about it: If you were waiting in the lobby at the car dealership for some work to be done and it was going to take 3 hours to complete the work, you wait. You aren't getting anything done. Now, if you were able to speed the process up to 25 min, you could get much more done that day because you aren't stuck for over 3 hours!
---Why does this matter to you?---Maybe more choices of roms, maybe nightlies of your favorite roms, maybe less bugs! A small donation toward our goal will help keep the hardware current and allow for the devs to get the great benefit of a powerful machine. Hard drive space is quickly filling up, the RAM is over full utilization, and other hardware improvements can be made.
-=Current goal=-
buildbox project (must have flash).PayPal here:
Any donations and/or support are greatly appreciated.
Currently supported devs (a big thanks goes out to them and their work!): Phantomphreak53 (CM10 nightlies), kbizzle (Paranoid Android SG3 and SG2), and justlovejoy (CNA). These devs have great talents and more work to come. Support the project for them and for your own benefit.
PS: If anyone is looking for more info, has suggestions, or is interested in the project, feel free to pm me. All of the devs can vouch for me (even a couple not listed here). This is a legitimate request. We are counting on the open source community to keep this project going strong.
tl;dr, support open source development and make a donation to the development tools!
I use to donate to Developers, because they spend time developing instead studying, hanging with friends or family etc.
But to be honest, and judging about other threads by you. This sounds more like: "i want a new computer" than "lets help the community".
I hope to be wrong.
Yeah I'll donate when devs step forward using it. And there is a particular piece of hardware you can mention.. ..also couldn't were just use our if it doesn't exist try to start a opencl/direct compute gcc and so on? Hell air crack NG allows for networked opencl of 32 devices 1 high end graphics card is equal to more then 10 high end cpus

Ok, basketthis first and foremost isn't trying to get a new computer. I personally use his box to build roms for two devices currently. If he hadn't provided the machine to turn my 4 hour build times into 30 min, I would be left standing with my d*ck in my hand, just trying to work with one device in a timely manner. A donation is simply that. So all I ask is that you don't come in here and bash him for just trying to give back to the community in his own way. It's his bandwidth and electronics we are using and over time, they will need to be paid for and upgraded. If you don't know the Devs or use their roms, that's fine but don't throw accusations around to try and deface a member of this great community.

The more understanding, the better. This tool is out there for the devs and we want to make it better so more devs can get involved. Who knows, it may be a dev that ends up developing for your next phone... The possibilities are endless with community involvement.
Received a donation. I've committed to match anyone else's donation up to 50 dollars. Would like to see this project continue. I will do everything I can to help. Can't wait to get my hands dirty on some upgrades for these devs! They deserve it!
Got the chipin/PayPal sites working together. The chipin site now reflects donation status.
Bump.
This guy is already hosting a build box for Kbizzle, which has made it easier to build his ROMs. I personally think this is well worth a donation, even if it's just $1...
Next time you donate to your favorite developer, send this guy a small donation to help keep the build boxes up and running.
