no headphones?!?! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

so i just seen on youtube that Technobuffalo did an unboxing of the AT&T version of the note 2 an noticed it doesnt come with headphones! why does AT&T do this?

Hmm, seems a bit odd to me as we pretty much share the same model. Rogers version came with ear buds and also a few sets of different sized rubber buds for comfort.

I remember my original I717 didn't come with them either but my I747 did haha

From every other place I have seen headphones are included. The only part I didn't like was the grey note still comes with white headphones and charger.

AT&T (and other US carriers) often will sell packages without the headphones (most likely to save money.) The headphones that come with the international version (n7100) seem to be the same headphones that samsung has been packaging with phones (and tablets) for the past year, so it's no major loss - they suck no matter which phone they come with.

Will the Note II come in the ugly AT&T branded box or the Samsung box? I know it doesn't matter but it'd be nice to have the Samsung box instead of the AT&T box.

The GS3 for AT&T came with the Samsung box so maybe the Note II would also?

I saw that at&t unboxing for the note 2 and it had the cheap at&t box again.

I couldn't care less about the box. Earbuds would be nice, though, but not a deal-breaker.

If it had the original samsung box, that usually means it would come with headphones. All the intended accessories. I think at&t has a side headphone resell business.

Just watched it after reading this, at&t is pretty lame, I mean how much would that have saved per handset really buying with no headphones $5. And the box? Yuck! I wish all OEM's would follow apples lead and tell carriers to shove it, no branding or bloat. Take it or leave it.
On a positive note (pun intended), at least you guys don't have to deal with verizon branding on the home button, oh man...

I'm sorry this is way off topic, but did the Rogers version, have a lot of Rogers Bloat on it?

I agree. It's not just Samsung either, all packaged headphones tend to suck. $25 to $30 earbuds are a huge improvement.

Surprisingly the Note 2 included headphones sound pretty good.

It sucks that AT&T's version doesn't come with headphones. Considering Verizon screwed their customers with a logo on the home button, I can live with what AT&T is doing..

VZW Galaxy Nexus and AT&T Galaxy Note

I have both in my hand. Reason for that is that VZW coverage is horrible where im at in weston fl, but AT&T blows away VZW coverage.
Problem im having is giving up my Nexus to actually keep the Note(Still in return period)
Am I spoiled by knowing that I have a Nexus? Am I spoiled by ICS?
I already have the official car dock for the note, wish VZW Nexus had an official dock that uses the Pogo pins...le sigh....
Anybody else been a similar situation ? Am I stupid for getting the note?
Please forum, help me make a decision on that to do, Thanks.

The ATT Note's hardware is pretty meh.
That said, a phone isn't worth diddly squat if you have no reception. I think the choice is pretty simple.
the note is perfectly fine for regular day to day use
that with the reception is a no brainer
or you can wait and hope that ATT comes out with the nexus with LTE soon
another option is the non-LTE nexus you can use on ATT, its only around $450 new anyways
edit : there IS ICS on the note, and CM9 is going to work on the note real soon
Sell the note and get gsm nexus . Win win. Great reception and keeping the nexus!

ATT Note is a Snapdragon S3.
I sold my AT&T note for a Galaxy Nexus unlocked. Other than the screen size there is nothing about the Note that is better than the nexus. I lpromise you. Touch wiz is junk, no chrome beta which is King on the Nexus. I actually used ADW ICS theme on my note. But Snapdragon S3 chip was mega mehhhhhhhh. Even when it gets ICS sure it will be smoother but you will still get that touch wiz overlay. The AT&T version development is kinda lacking.
If your getting a note go international, trust me. Also had a software problem with crushed blacks and blocky blacks on the note with video and photos. And I went through 4 of em. All the same problem.

Not a big fan of the att note but coming from the intl note, it's the perfect phone. screen is great and perfect for browing or watching movies. the only reason why i gave it up is because att sucks in my area. verizon is great and using my nexus with an ipad is working out nicely. still missing my note though.

[Q] Upgrading from GSII...Note vs Note II opinions?

Hey all, I like my GSII a lot, but I feel I need an upgrade. I skipped the GSIII because I knew something would be along soon after. Now I am looking at getting a Note, but i'm wondering really hard whether it's worth it to spend the extra $150-200 to get the newer Note II over the original Note. The original really isn't that old, and the specs are still pretty decent. It's the software that seems to be the biggest upgrade. That split-screen feature looks frickin awesome.
Now, I like the squarer design of the original Note, but I like the extra features of the newer one. I wonder if they will be able to port the newer ROM to the older hardware?
Anyway, anyone thinking about doing the same or have any opinions?

I actually like T-Mobile. Why do you think it's not good? I live in NYC so I guess I get the best coverage they have, but I also like their low cost 4G plans. I have the Walmart plan right now.
I am leaning towards the Note II though. It just looks so OP.
Between the Note and Note II, Note II hands down. Better processor, bigger screen, twice the RAM and an improved S-pen.

I'm pretty sure the "full" off contract price is gonna be around $700. They have one listed on Amazon for that much http://goo.gl/d9vMg. But when you add tax and shipping, you're talking almost $800. I always get mine from Craigslist though. Usually a high end unlocked phone will go for $500 on there, but I think the Note 2 might be as much as $600. If you're vigilant you can get a good deal, plus you save yourself tax and shipping.
Edit: The unlocked white one is even more expensive at Amazon http://goo.gl/JepOC

AT&T Note ll box

Im pretty pissed off about the way AT&T sent me my pre ordered note 2. Instead of the nice premium samsung box, they sent it in a crappy box. If I pay 650$ for a phone I would like the box that its suppose to come in!

Actually, i don't have a note 2. Since i posted above, i found out some phones were shipped that way. I'm going to edit my post as soon as i finish this one.
Fwiw, the refurbs i have purchased on the past were packaged this way. My current phone came in a pretty Samsung box.

Just left the local att store and I'm dumbfounded.
What happened to the nice Samsung cloth box and included headphones that were part of the original review??
For 299 on contract or 599 off, this should be the flagship phone from att.
Instead it's packaged and sold like some Walmart special.
Now I'm really reconsidering the upgrade.
You hear that att? (Not like you care) I'm not sure I want to give you 300 + 150/mo for the next two years for our family plan.
If you're listening, that's a potential loss of commitment from me to your company of almost $4000.
Maybe that $2 box and $3 headphone package you cost reduced might have been worth it.

Yeah, it was a pretty crappy little box. But honestly I don't care, I was buying a phone not a box.
Headphone would of been nice, but no big dea. l I use Bluetooth.
Would you have preferred to pay 650 no-commitment and gotten a fancy box with a garbage phone inside?
Don't get me wrong - I agree that AT&T played a game with the box and headphones, but it's really not that big of a deal. Sure, AT&T saved $5. However, even $650 is a really good price for the NoteII with LTE. This isn't the typical AT&T downgraded hardware (as the SGS3 was) but the full blown NoteII with LTE.
As far as I've been able to tell so far, this thing is almost hardware identical to the N7105.. which sells for over $150 more than the i317 when purchased from anyone who'll honor the warranty in the US. Trust me that the box and headphones aren't worth that much.
Where do I start...
Box. Sure its just a box. I worked in the manufacturing industry for years. I know about cost savings. Makes me wonder where else the cost savings have been applied.
A box like the one Samsung uses for all their phones costs about $0.30 in mass production.
The headphones probably cost near $2.
So why does ATT feel the need to short change the customer for $3?
Are you OK when you buy a $1000 TV and it doesn't come with a remote or power cord?
This is the best phone ATT offers and the put it in a crappy box with no headphones? But you can buy the S3 and get the factory box and cool headphones for less than half the price.
If you're demanding top dollar for a product, presentation is everything.
Your tv analogy makes no sense mate.
Not even close to a freakin box and a dollar store headphone.
Sent from the Mighty Note International!
If it really bothers you that much:
A: contact Samsung and ask them for the pretty box and headphones
B: get an iPhone.
Does the lack of box really impede the performance of the phone? Do you bronze it and stick it on your mantle, or show the box off to your peers?
Seriously, at the end of the day how much does it really matter?

Earphones are generic; unlike TV remotes, they're not customized for a particular device. And when you buy a new cell phone these days, you're likely replacing a previous one for which you already have earphones or a headset--if indeed you ever use those (many folks don't). If you sell your old phone, the new owner probably doesn't want to use previously-worn earphones. So including a new pair with each phone is wasteful, for reasons that don't carry over to your TV analogy.

T-Mobile REALLY wants your S3 back!

I just went to T-Mobile's trade in program to see what I would get for my GS3. The T999 fetches a pretty penny - 225 bucks. On top of that, the "new" T999L only gets 190 and the Galaxy Note 2 gets 265. A 64GB iPhone 5 is 269.99 for comparison.
Looks like T-Mobile wants to buy back as many T999s as possible, probably anticipating an uptick in exchanges on the heels of the LTE model launching.
Interestingly enough, this is much better than their father's day trade-in deal for the iPhone since it applies to any phone. Something I'm thinking about but I don't have the cash to pay the down payment up front and I'm pretty sure you still have to pay up front if you go to the store as well (although I'm not sure, I haven't called).
Just thought I would post this since this is even more than what HTC was offering on their competitor trade-up offer!

Yeah that was my idea too. Seems kind of silly they can't just do a quick in-store inspection and give you your credit. All they have to do is power it up, make sure its not rooted, plug it into a USB charger, and check for damage. Wouldn't take more than 5 minutes total and would dramatically increase sales for T-Mobile if everyone knew they could trade in their phone - T-Mobile still makes a profit, gets new customers and upgrades old ones, and the best part is that it moves them closer to having everyone on LTE so HSPA can be phased out sooner or left for customers that don't care about their network speed.

That's all I saw of your post.
Just looked on eBay at recently sold phones... Average seems to be around 250 but mine is in MINT condition - hell one with a cracked screen sold for 250... The Titanium Grey is selling higher than the others (probably because its the rarest filtering by listing) which is what I happen to have. Prices are all over the place on Craigslist.
I've had eBay for years but never sold anything on there. Too bad my PayPal account got frozen or I'd consider it.
Still wish T-Mobile would just inspect it in the store though, much less of a hassle. lol. I suppose I can call them and see if they can just bill the phone to the account - we've had them for forever.

It doesn't surprise me that people aren't biting on Craigslist. Although here in Denver that's how most people buy and sell things online, hardly anyone I know uses eBay for anything other than super rare stuff so who knows.

I've never used Swappa before, might have to check it out. I was going to list my two Droid RAZR Maxx's there but never got around to it and found out that they're pretty much worth nothing even though they're both in mint condition.

If you have an older sim for your other phone you should be able to reactivate it. I've done it online before, or you can call or go to a store and they can do it for you.
Anyone have any idea what theyd give for my s3 with a cracked screen? Works perfectly and you can't see the cracks while its on, but something tells me they wouldn't give the full $225!

Unfortunately the Captivate is Samsung's Galaxy S I for at&t, I never had a full-size T-Mo SIM for it
They wouldn't give you 225 at T-Mobile but I saw one on eBay sell for 245... I would go to eBay and filter until you get your device and then select show sold only and see what they're selling for. Might surprise you.
EDIT: Damn frozen PayPal account - that's what Swappa uses for payment >_<
Any ways T-Mobile dropped that GS4 to $99 who cant afford $99? trade in your phone with tmobile and use it as credit to pay for the phone faster. I seen a lot of post of people saying that the s4 is not a big upgrade from the s3.. I played with one today at the store.. First time I played with an actual live show device. And I put my s3 next to it.. There is a huge different between these 2. If you see them side by side in person.. Now in pictures not so much

People on extremely fixed incomes can't afford 99 dollars. I'm fighting disability right now so I get 175 a month from the state of Colorado while I go through the long process with Social Security.
Oh and I fixed my PayPal account... I can't believe all I had to do was call and verify some information with them. If I had known that I would have done that back in October! So now I might just sell my GS3 and get an S4 or One. Torn between the two - don't like non-expandable storage but the One being able to run any ROM from at&t, T-Mo OR International is a HUGE plus to me.

That GS4 is able to run any rom from any carrier in the states and even the international! Go to any carrier s4 forum and you will see... One of the reason I would trade my s3 for the s4 in a heart bit because of it.... And you know samsung is faster than htc in updating phones.. So if a new update comes to the international you can flash it on any carrier us s4.. Witch is pretty cool in my part..

Okay well you just made my decision a ton easier, especially if the 99 down price point is T-Mobile's now standard pricing for the S4. I couldn't really see any other reason to get the One (I really like having an SD card and "Boom Sound" is nice but I found myself covering up the speakers anyway holding the phone in landscape) and with the 7500mAh Zero Lemon battery out for the S4, its kind of a no-brainer especially since it fixes the design flaw with the speaker on the S4 and shoots the sound out the sides.
I wasn't aware that you could flash any carrier ROM to the S4. Apparently that was just in the beginning of the launch then? Sweet!

Yeah people with the s4 are flashing international roms like crazy out of the box... But remember dont flash a rom with the modem witch now days none comes with a modem hehehe.. I played with one today and I really liked it.. I think I may get it and not wait for the note 3.. Really I like the note 2 and that 5'5 screen is big enough.. I Kinda think about it if i want a note 2 but rumors says the that note 3 will be 6'' screen.. I really dont think I will like it that much..
As we on the S3 we can port any carrier rom to ours but not international.. And look how long they been having 4.2.x roms. and we dont have a leak yet.. Flashing roms from international like on the s4 is priceless lol.. I really dont know why XDA had to split these forums.. And not make one. Like on the HTC Sensation.. It was one forum for all Sensations worldwide.
Not to mention that Samsung is MUCH more dev friendly than HTC. Since the One series it just seemed to me that HTC was trying to become too much like the icrap. Plus No expandable storage, no removable battery, locked bootloaders, etc.... any one of these is a deal killer in my book.

New Note 4

I ordered my note 2 days ago and received them today. is any one else honestly peeved that we just get a generic box while others get original? i prefer original headphones because sometimes my iPhone or in ear beats don't work for volume or skipping songs. the plastic around it was off center like some one pulled it from the box, and moved it to some cheap box. i don't know about everyone but I'm pissed. happy with the phone but not so much with att. i saved my chat with att as pdf. this is from samsung live chat.
Santino: I should inform you that Note 4 device will not come along with headphones.
Aaron: because att or samsung? t-mobile list them as included
Santino: Below are the things available in the device.
Santino: 1. Standard Battery (Lithium-Ion, 3220mAh)
Aaron: oh i know its not listed in the whats included. but
Santino: 2. Adaptive Fast Charging Travel Adapter USB V2.0 Cable
Santino: Head phones are not provided with the box.
Aaron: there was no box. does samsung package them in orange and white att branded boxes?
Santino: It seems the device is refurbished.
Santino: Samsung will send the device to Carrier in a Samsung sealed box.
Aaron: the only reference to the note 4 was a picture on one side.
Aaron: so samsung sends att a sealed wood looking box, wrapped in plastic

This is a known thing, very frustrating.... and seems to be an AT&T specific thing. Very upsetting indeed.
Yeah, they suck for interrupting the nice designs on boxes from manufacturers. Also for removing the headphones.
Are we really discussing boxes and headphones on XDA now? What has it come to lol.
Here is my opinion and it means nothing most likely. I look at my box twice in my ownership of a phone. Once when I rip open the box when I get the phone and once when I box it up to sell it.
As for the headphones....I have never opened a pair ever. I have at least 3 or 4 pairs unopened in my drawer. A $10 pair are better than the bundled garbage.
Am I the only one here?

I understand your reasoning, but why take it away charge us more? When no other carrier is doing this. They are nickel and diming there customers. And if you haven't see this yet the Note edge is selling for more than a hundred dollars then any other carrier.

Dude you're really missing the big picture, why does att feel the need to make everything so abysmal. They don't give you orginal packaging, remove earphones, lock the bootloader down like wtf. They do things like this because people like you.
I just wanted headphones with my $900 dollar phone.
So why not just buy an unlocked version or from T-Mobile?
Actually they don't lock the bootloader down because of guys like this. And I believe t-mobile is the only US carrier including crappy headphones. Who gives a hoot. So much complaining over something people either throw away and stick in the back of a drawer and never use.
The only legitimate butt hurt is over a locked bootloader. But those days are slowly going away for Samsung. So might as well get used to it or move to another brand. But crying on xda won't get you anywhere.

This. He could buy his AT&T version new, leave it sealed, then sell it and use that money for the T-Mobile version.
AT&T has been doing their own box thing and not including headphones since the Note 2. Where have some of you been???

Ah. Yeah I don't get why AT&T has to change everything on their phones. Apple doesn't allow it, why does Samsung. Its annoying.
I phone headphones, the mic will not work as the Samsung headphone jack looks for a resistance of 10k ohms when the mic is plugged in,and I think the ring configuration is different,so anyway here's my experience with just getting the note 4 last night,in the store I said don't open the box ,I'll do it when I get home,so got home opened it and the protective sticker was all bubbled and off center,so I'm looking carfully for fingerprints or anything to suspect it was used or messed with didn't really find much,so I proceeded to put on the tempered screen protector before even powering it up,one I was up I installed Samsung phone info app,I checked it and it had 5 headset cinnections, the phone didn't even come with headphones, and I didn't plug any in,went back to ATT today there were no managers on,so they said they will talk to one on Monday and call me,one question are all the NOTE 4s 32gb internal memory?
I bought the gn4 on best buy, my first impression was disappointed, coz I saw intl version with all the accessories included , and went home a start looking where is the headphones, but them I read the box and effective doesn't mention headphones.
But it's OK though , after couples I just forget it. The important is the phone.
But with the original samsung box when u want to resale it maybe u can get a little more and looks more nicer
