[Q] Miracast on gnex once we install 4.2 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am just making sure i understand things right.
Every device with wifi and android 4.2 will support miracast correct?
So once 4.2 drops we will be able to run miracast from our gnex phones correct?

I think it will. The Galaxy Nexus does support Wi-Fi Direct which is necessary for Miracast but we'll only know when the OTA update is released.

what does OTA have to do with it.
Once AOSP 4.2 drops we will have all sorts of roms to test with.

Wifi-Displayâ„¢ by TI is necessary for Miracast, from what i remember.

I am bumping this since AOSP has dropped.
Can anyone confirm?

So i am running 4.2 now. I do not think this is working as everyone was hoping.

Are there even any Miracast hardware (hdmi dongles or something) available to the consumer that support Miracast? I dont know of any, yet.

Kind of.. That does say it's Miracast. I saw on G+ where Phil from AC was going to do a review on it, but he said not to buy it yet. And these Amazon reviews agree that it's a pass. The price point is right for sure. Too bad.

Any Miracast boxes/dongles that actually functions correctly I guess would have been a better question.

I have one in hand.
It does WiDi and miracast
You flip between which you want.
I cant get the win 8 tablet to connect to the widi and none of my android 4.2 devices have the miracast functional :/
Some of its the devices fault some not.
They are saying they will update the firmware to support win 8 by the end of the year or something. not sure when android miracast stuff will be working.
*EDIT*
this amazon review
"This device says it will work with Miracast, but I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy SIII, and an Asus Nexus 7"
this isnt the fault of the PTV3000
even with android 4.2 it isnt enabled yet.

So back to the main question, does gnex with 4.2 have miracast function?

Oh well damn you know better than any of us, you must have started this thread before getting 4.2 or the ptv?. Anyways. Disappointing 4.2 Miracast feature doesn't work on the only box available with Miracast (to my knowledge).

I know that feel. They say allot of stuff they think we want to hear, maybe they PLAN on actually doing what they say, maybe they make it up 10 minutes before announcing it. I wouldn't be surprised either way. Android Update Alliance? Sure. Right. I'll hold by breathe for that one. [email protected]? The lightbulbs controlled by your phone.. I'm sure Google will be able to complete this task before seven companies on kick starter do right? That's pretty much every damn announcement from last years keynote, all just a big show that they never made good on, and never even mentioned again. Did they even release the accessory developers kit they were talking about that year? I never read anything else about it.
Oh well. Guess I'm sticking to DLNA and AirPlay.

Got the Android 4.2 factory image on my Galaxy Nexus (yakju JOP40C) and there's no Miracast option available.
I guess only the Nexus 4 is the only certified smartphone for it right now.

Hi.
Are there any news on this?
My Galaxy Nexus has Android 4.3. I just got access to a Miracast dongle (I work at an online retailer) and it doesn't work.
WiFi Direct connects to the dongle, but it lacks the Miracast support. There is no option to enable "Wireless Display".

if you familiar with handling custom ROM, this ROM enabling miracast in GN on 4.2.2.

[Q] 3G Modem dongle

Hi
Since Tab 10.1 can act as USB Host.
do you think Tab 10.1 Wifi Only will support connecting 3G USB Modem (Dongle)?
in this case you can use 3G when you want with your Wifi tab.
You can use your Smartphone and grant tethering/hotspot access, don't forget that ;]

While possible, it's highly unlikely. It would require the USB modem manufacturer to write an Android specific driver, and it would assume there's enough demand for those modem companies to go down that route.
Since cell companies are eager to sell you 3G/4G editions of the tablet, there certainly won't get any encouragement from the carrier side. Since the modem companies make money when they sell more modems (embedded or standalone), they're also largely uninterested in giving people more ways to live with a single modem.
Couple that with Honeycomb being young and a bit rough, there's probably also less interest in investing in Honeycomb drivers today when a converged Ice Cream Sandwich platform is due at the end of 2011. Why bother going through 2 dev cycles?
If you want to use your USB modem with your WiFi Tab, you're far better off buying a Cradlepoint PHS-300. That will let you use your modem with a Wi-Fi hotspot. Or alternatively, visit your local carrier and see about getting yourself upgraded to one of their MiFi devices.

No Bluetooth Low Energy for the Galaxy Nexus

Those of you have been waiting for the Galaxy Nexus to gain support for Bluetooth Low Energy - to enable syncing with devices like the Fitbit Flex or Polar heart monitor - can stop. While BLE support will arrive in the next drop of Android, it will - according to one of the folks on the Android team - apparently not be making its way to the Nexus. See the comment here:
https://plus.google.com/116110604589325140832/posts/VsF1BcaFY1g
Looks like the best bet, then, is either custom ROMs or upgrading to a Nexus 4 or later.
Great... Another nail in the coffin against the galaxy nexus, time to start looking for a suitable replacement.

This question is fairly general as I'm considering the remaining life of my device. Does anyone have an idea, once API level 18 is released, is it possible or probable that we will get BLE ported over in a ROM? Should I hold out hope for my Nexus or move on? BLE is something I've been looking forward to for a while.
Lol, that's just ****ing weak.

I don't think it's that simple, it will require some work to port it over, I remember that a google employee mentioned in the keynote that BLE requires a new stack. Correct me if i'm wrong, i'm kinda sleepy when i watched the keynote..
Yeah, which will come with next Android release. They just don't want to bother with the drivers for GN, which is bull****.

No one cares, since they get them from the stock build.
So, now that Android 4.3 is out, what are the chances of getting BLE ported from another device with the same BT chip?

I'm unsure if you're saying it will get it or won't.
They just recertified BT 3.0 for it. If you go to https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/listings.cfm and top in GT-I9250 in the search box you'll notice that it says it as for 3.0 not 4.0.
If you put in the model LG-E960 (nexus 4) and search you'll notice that it was for 4.0.
so will gnex support BLE ?
It doesn't have it, they would certify for 4.0 if it would. Only way (unofficial at least) would be to work with with similar binaries from a 4.0 certified device, if it's possible.
It sucks ass, but I guess it was more of a business decision then a engineering one. Personally I don't see much point in having a Nexus anyway, so this decision kinda sealed that I'll look around for the next phone.

Some of the apps used on the Note 10.1 are proprietary to Samsung so you would need a Note 1,2,3 to use them on a phone. I run a custom ROM and have none of those apps on my N1 so I can't really say what the advantage would be to being able to use them on both devices other than familiarity.

NP, I've never owned a tablet so I can't speak for that but I bought the Galaxy Note 1 on the day it was released and have been very satisfied.
If you end up going with these 2 I would think you will be as well. Also note that if you end up rooting the Note 3 you can use it as a wifi hotspot for your tablet so if you're looking to save some money you can just get the wifi version and not the LTE or 3g version.

Well if you get Samsung Galaxy phone you get function like S-beam which uses NFC to initiate connection then transfers files via WiFi direct much faster then doing Dropbox upload then download.
Also with Galaxy phone's you get S-Memo which sync's with all the Galaxy devices same like Evernote but with Note devices you get to draw or hand write memo.

Hmmm..... weird!
NFC is such common thing that I never actively looked for it in the articles, I thought it was given as how every Samsung high end devices from S3 forward got it.
Not having it on tablet would turn one of the best function of touchWiz the S-Beam totally redundant!
Some sites are saying yes and some saying no. Maybe the final product will have it?
The tablet is not out yet for reviews, so we shall see how it pans out.
I'm still on the fence between Sony Xperia Z tablet or Note 10.1, as I'm still waiting for the price of 4G model.

Everything new is not always better. I had a Galaxy nexus before GPRO and with each update the phone received after the SOLID 4.1.2, problems started mounting. These were not just performance issues and this was on a supposed pure Google device. Go visit the Galaxy Nexus forums and see how much folks are downgrading back to 4.1.2 from 4.2.x and 4.3. Case in point, 4.2.1 introduced issues with Bluetooth audio streaming which Google later fixed in 4.2.2. If a phone manufacturer decides to jump to a new release right away, unless they are will to deal with the churn and cost associated with putting out a new release every few months or so to correct problems, they risk taking untested functionality and upsetting their user base when stuff don't work.
I am not sure what the fascination is with 4.3 especially when 4.4 is around the corner. The biggest advantage in 4.3 in my opinion is the addition of Bluetooth LE (which GPRO already has), OpenGL ES for games and TRIM (flash filesystem garbage collection to prevent slow down). The last two would be nice to have but I am willing to wait for 4.3 to fully bake before jumping in. The GPRO is a solid device with ONE big advantage over the Note 3 at the moment. Unlike the Note 3, the GPRO does not have KNOX.
:sly: ^^^^^^^ no offence but how funny you are. Updates are bad, yaaa grapes are sour.
I am not saying updates are bad. I am asking you to use logic. LG does not update the software on their phones often. I knew this well before getting the GPRO. When/if they do provide an update, would you rather them provide one based on the current 4.3 (with all its current issues) knowing that once LG does you are probably stuck with it (good or bad) for a while or would you rather them wait for 4.3.x. I would much prefer they wait (which unfortunately means longer update cycles). Even the Nexus 4 has issues with 4.3 at the moment. 4.3 seems rushed and needs more time to fully bake. The developer community is doing their best to fix some the problems but that means using cooked ROMs which requires an open bootloader. Something I cant see (open bootloader) on the Note3 just yet due to KNOX.

:sly: lol. Sorry no offense, You really are :sly: So 4.2.2 in g2 is rushed. 1 year is not enough to update to 4.2 leave 4.3. Close the company for selling phones. and leave everything on Google edition.
Personally 4.2 did not bring much to the table compared to 4.1 (again this is my opinion). Name an APP that works on 4.2 and not on 4.1. In many ways 4.2 on phones was a step back in performance compared to 4.1 since 4.2 was really optimized for tablets (large heap sizes, multi-user support, etc.) with some inkling of benefit for phone users. Some of the changes in 4.2 cause massive performance issues (i.e. heap size changes) in phones which after a few iteration (4.2.1, 4.2.2) got ironed out. This only illustrate my point about why it may not be so great to always jumping to the new first. If you want consistent OS updates from a manufacturer then you need to get a Nexus device. If you bought an LG hoping to periodic updates then you made a big mistake.
Prior to getting the GPRO, I had the G2 for 3 days. Do I miss it? Heck no. Why? Because the GPRO is an all around better phone and from the surface you would not be able to tell the G2 is using 4.2.2 and the GPRO 4.1.2. If the GPRO gets 4.2.2 that would be nice but I'm not dying for it. Sure I would like the phone to be updated but I am not going to rely on LG for that and when I am ready to update, I'll find the most stable ROM possible and use that. I've been on the bleeding edge with Google for the pass two years with my Galaxy Nexus. I'm not interested in being a beta tester anymore.

^^^^ what do you think? Any possibilities of g2 features coming in next update.
Aside from "Knock Knock" and a few camera tricks, there was really not that much brought to the table by the G2 when compared to the GPRO in terms of features. In fact the GPRO has some features you wont find on some G2s (Wireless charging, true 5.5" screen real estate - G2 claims 5.2" screen but in reality it is more like 5" since the software buttons take up the bottom portion of the screen). The G2 was more about LG participating in the HW spec war presently going on between phone vendors. Most of the minor tweaks I saw on the G2 were with respect LG's Quick APPS which can be easily ported to the GPRO. In fact I think there is already a GPRO ROM that does this. The UI on the phones are so similar that you would have to go to the "About Phone" section to tell that you were on 4.1.2 rather than 4.2.2 on the GPRO.
"Knock Knock" is a nice feature but its only important to have on the G2 since LG placed the darn buttons on the back of the phone. Buttons on the back sounds like a great concept but in actual use the buttons being on the back just felt unnatural. At times I would have to knock the screen more than twice for it to turn on/off. Sometimes I would have to knock harder than I would like as well. Playing with that gimmick was nice for the first few day but when you get over it and start to really use the phone, you start to realize all the moments where having the button on the back is a pain in the behind.
So with that said, I think most of the minor software tweaks I saw on the G2 will make it into the GPRO if it is updated.

^^^ remote learning & hidden guest mode also good daily usability functions. On cm others can see what user account I logged in.
Lg this time nailed with new remote & guest mode. Also knock knock is good for me.
Guest mode most likely relies on the multi-user capability introduced in 4.2 so if that is something you are specifically looking for then you are unfortunately at the mercy of LG. All of the other G2 features you mentioned below MAY (no certain) be hardware specific to the G2. We know the GPRO has the hardware to transmit IR but what we don't know is if it has the circuitry to receive IR for learning. Same goes for "knock knock" in that we don't know if there is any hardware required to make it work.
If LG updates the GPRO to 4.2 or above, I can easily see them bring guest mode to the GPRO. If hardware is not the limiting factor for IR learning I think we will see that one too. Knock Knock on the other hand may remain a G2/"future LG phone" feature even if it is purely a software implementation. LG is in the phone business to make money and right now the "knock knock" feature is one of their prime differentiator. This unfortunately means that if you want it you will have to buy the latest and greatest hardware from them. They are not going to bring it back to older platforms because they want you to upgrade. Again this is just my opinion. Hopefully LG proves me wrong.

Galaxy S9 Android Auto Wireless

Just checking to see if anyone with the One UI Beta has been able to test to see if Android Auto Wireless is working? If not this needs to be submitted to Samsung to get added.

Nope. I'm on beta 4, have a kenwood with AA wireless and it's not working yet.
that green guy was dreaming or drinked......
Just got stable pie on my unlocked S9+. Notta.
It's frustrating, I bought the JVC head unit in July because it supposedly supported AA wireless with Oreo. I dug and found out AA wireless requires pie, so I waited it out.:
I have the stable Pie update on my US Unlocked Galaxy S9 and wireless android auto still doesn't work with my JVC KW-M845BW. Come on Google!
Could somebody explain the purpose of this?
As my head unit will screen mirror or i can install the app on the head-unit itself.
Think i maybe missing the point??

Doesn't work for me either. Kenwood DNX995S. Works fine with Pixel 3 of course. I thought for sure Samsung would get it straightened out in the final pie. Grrrrrr. I don't understand. If the S10 doesn't have it it will be going back within the return period
Someone from Google on Google forums said they're working on enabling AA Wireless with non Google Pie phones. It sounds like Google has this intentionally disabled on the backend for non Google phones.

I wonder if it will be enabled through a Pie update, or simply an Android Auto update in the Google Play Store???

Through a quick update like they did before just for a day while apparently testing it. A user reported having wireless AA briefly working on beta UI
Anybody??????????
This is frustrating.

what worked? i was using wired android auto for a couple years and i was very happy with it, but never got a deck or car that had wireless android auto. I have been heavily involved in the car audio scene for a while (not just bass in case you were wondering LoL) and i havent seen anyone having any issues with wireless AA not working on anything outside of a pixel phone :/

Wireless Android Auto has never worked for non-Pixel or Nexus phones until now. There have been some hacks but nothing directly from Google to allow Samsung, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, HTC, etc phones to work wirelessly with Android Auto until this beta.

weirdness... wireless AA has been out for a long time now, thats kinda shocking that it took this long for it to work across multiple devices outside of the range mentioned. Oh well, at least i, myself, wasnt impacted, because... you know.... thats the most important thing here

ohhhh, was it just the stock car systems that had that issue? i was referring to the aftermarket like Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood (which is now owned by JVC), JVC, Sony etc etc.
Affected Aftermarket too. It did not work on my Pioneer W4400NEX with my S10+, but does with the new Google play services beta and the developer option in Android Auto app.
