Are you sure you have a HTC Desire and downloaded the correct file?
What ROM are you using?
Additional info would be good (like bootloader info).
Is your phone branded?

In my opinion, don't install it. I did, wish I hadn't. It literally offers nothing new to what froyo offered. I get FC on framework and weather doesn't update properly. Plus I like the T9 keyboard but the words it auto corrects to on 2.3 are ridiculous. So bad I can't use that anymore.

Branding means, your network provider "marks" the phone as one from it, e.g. by installing its own software.
If you bought your phone from a global store like amazon, it's not branded. If you bought your phone from your / a network provider, it's probably branded.

Desire restart after 15 minutes if intense use

I am not sure this is the place to post this but I certainly hope so.
I have researched the matter a little before posting.
I got my Desire from a friend. He has been using it for over a year.
Seems he didn't modify anything and it still has the original system but am not sure. If someone can tell me where to find this info...
If I leave the phone on without using it it stays on but if I use it, like browsing or gps or any other program, even just downloading stuff from MArket, the phone restarts after 15 minutes and if I don't take out the battery for a few minutes it loops restarts.
Once the battery is removed for a few minutes the phone restarts normally.
from what I read it may be a problem with the board heating?
Is there a way to test that? to diagnose a phone?
Thanks for any help
Hey mate,
If you're running on a stock rom there's something wrong with the hardware. Unless you've got all the spare parts you can fix the phone yourself, otherwise it has to be repaired. Soz

You should ask your friend if he has bought the phone from a store or if he has rooted it before. Otherwise you have to hand it in to the repair centre

Generally you can tell by going to settings/about phone and looking at the software number and kernel version. If you see any strange names in these areas, like Nova-lite, Grim Reaper ver 1, etc, it is generally a modified rom.
Also, you can look in your apps for an app called Superuser. This is a sign of a rooted phone.
Additionally, if you power down the device, you should be able to boot into Recovery (if it is installed), by holding Vol- and Pwr. If you get into the boot, and select the "recovery" option, and you get a display with options like Install zip from SD, Wipes, Formats, etc, then this is a custom recovery.
My guess, would be, if the device is stock, Run an RUU Rom, and see if it will install a fresh OS. This may fix your issue. Corruption in the OS can definately cause the issue you describe.
The best sign should actually be to boot into bootloader (power off - HOLD volume down + power until white screen pops up) In the left upper corner it should say like:
"BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON". If it says "S-OFF" your phone has probably been rooted before

I'd bet money that most Rooted Bravo's are still S-On...not reliable.
OP, do you have the "Super User" or "SU" app installed? If yes your phone is rooted and likely running a custom ROM.

True true, back to S-ON is possible. If the phone has been rooted or not before can be hard. Anyone can tidy up a phone but I suggest he roots his phone, flashes gingerbread RUU and then try again. One moment, I'm going to find a link for you m8

Also, don't throw your money away, alpharev are one of the first bravo HBOOT flashers. This is taken from their site:
HTC implemented security on their newer generation phones. This flag, called @secuflag, controls whether your phone has it's NAND or flash unlocked. Most noticeably, S-ON (security on) will read-lock your /system and /recovery partition, to name a few. Also, secuflag controls whether zip files being flashed through recovery or fastboot, are signed by HTC.
The now notorious S-OFF (security off) will disable this NAND security. Since we are unable to access the Radio NVRAM itself (where secuflag is stored), we turned our attention to HBOOT.
AlphaRev has patched HBOOT images for several phones, whereas the HTC Desire (GSM) was our first victim.
I recommend he flashes through HTC themselves

NEVER do that, or you'll have to downgrade later.
I had similar problems with my stock desire, update fixed it. So it might not be hardware related. Try rooting and using a custom rom and see if it persists. If so, it ist hardware related and you'll have to send it in (unroot before), if not, it's software and you can just keep your custom rom.
And, before you ask, there are ca. 100 threads on what the best rom might be. Just try any one from the Desire Index (sticky in dev section).
As you said, it might not be hardware related but what does it matter? If the official update doesnt help and he has to root it, it won't matter since he's able to flash stock roms then...
Sent from my HTC Desire
He will certainly not brick it with the official update and it's a lot easier to skip the rooting part if you're not common with it
Sent from my HTC Desire
If you want to flash the official gingerbread rom from HTC click here: http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152 . This will surely NOT brick your phone. It's the latest official for desire too.
Sure it's not a particular app that's causing it? Also, perhaps underclock the CPU and see if that improves stability. If it's anything like desktop processors, they can degrade over time and cause instability (usually more noticable when the CPU is heavily overclocked, but it still happens regardless)
Ah well,i thought you meant unlocking the bootloader through the htc tool. For that is definitely not recommended. RUU should be no problem.
Btw, there is a reason for an edit function.

please tell me how to get all apps back and fix crashes
i tried software update option but it was stuck on checking for 30 mins... tried many times.. no luck

and what version can this phone can support latest that doesnt lag and is also good...
PLEASE help me guys
Thanks
just to add... my phone itself it fine.. i mean wifi, calls, sms, bluetooth camera etc everything is working.. i dont see any hardware issue.. all i see is software issue, so please tell me the solution..
also i saw HTC wildfire some saying its HTC BUZZ and some saying its desire mini.. what is it actually? i simply have HTC WILDFIRE

His rom is booting per op so I would assume he can get into bootloader. It is the first day he has the phone. He hasnt asked about rooting so why not flash an ruu? Seems like the simplest solution to me unless he wants to root.
Ok,I know he didn't mention anything about rooting but do you know of any stock Rom that has devtools app !! No nor do I ,so I'm guessing he is on cm7. Also now with more info we can see that he has a strange bootloader,I've not seen before either.
So which ruu are you going to recommend with his hboot ?

Good point I don't know about that strange hboot. If he is s-on (which is unclear strangely) and locked to a particular carrier he will need an ruu with a cid that matches his phone. I would personally go with a froyo WWE Rom and see if he gets a cid error and if so try to find out the cid of the phone which I think you can do via fastboot.
It might be cm7 if the phone is second hand.
OP - from your bootloader screen, choose recovery (vol buttons for up and down, power to select) and tell us what it looks like. Also do you have an app called superuser in your app drawer?

yes please, hans moleman, you seem to be one of the "shoot first - ask later" type
It's kindly appreciated by everyone in the forum - those who seek for help and those who want to help - that you try your best. But please - before you suggest a RUU (which really could do a lot of harm in many cases) try to find out what's the problem, what hardware/software is involved, s-on/s-off etc etc - you mention it yourself: you have no idea about the HBOOT version - nor do I. And we already had that problem with a HBOOT version that looked at least similar to the known Buzz values - in the end it has been a bee and it looks like it's bricked due to an RUU...
Back to the topic: your latest suggestion was better
So texh could you try to do the following
- power your phone off
- press "volume down" and "power" and keep holding until something happens
- write down all the contents of the screen you get there

yes please, hans moleman, you seem to be one of the "shoot first - ask later" type

What are you talking about? an ruu is much safer than rooting and flashing custom roms. The ruu program carries out a lot of checks before flashing. It won't flash if the device id or cid don't match and it also checks the HTC signature before flashing. It is HTC's own software.
So is flashing an RUU not going to help? If not what do you think will help? The phone is not rooted, he cannot access recovery, I don't think he cares about root access so why risk it. He just wants to get his phone working.
Look back at the earlier posts if you want to see his hboot. It says buzz. And as said before if it is not a buzz, a buzz ruu will return a device id error.

That error pic isnt really an error but more a warning to say don't go any further, if you press vol up+power on that screen it should take you to the stock recovery i think. Not much to do in there though as its noobproofed........
Is it a desire a, i seem to remember some people from south america i think having problems getting root a long time ago on what was believed to be a wildfire but wasn't.
Check under the battery to see if it says desire a, I'll see if i can find a link to the topic if it is.
Edit: forget the desire a part i just found the topic and the hboot info is different to yours so i don't think its that. And hans is correct about ruu if it isn't a buzz or it needs a certain ruu it will give an error and stop the flash.

If I'm not totally mistaken I read about those problems (using a wrong RUU) more than once.
So is flashing an RUU not going to help? If not what do you think will help?

Oh well, regarding stats I'd say flashing a RUU helps in less than 30% of all of the real problems...
The phone is not rooted

this hasn't been absolutely clear as he reported having dev tools showing up which is not part of the stock HTC ROM IIRC - BTW you mentioned yourself that it's unclear if he's s-on or s-off

yes but either the HBOOT and the radio version are unknown
And as said before if it is not a buzz, a buzz ruu will return a device id error

IIRC it did run on a bee (not sure about the error msg but it did run on a non-Buzz)
Anyway - and again: no worries - what I just wanted to say is: let's find out more about hard- and software and the problem before suggesting the stuff that is usually known as a last attempt. This is an Android forum - I personally don't want to see something like in all those Windows noob forums where the no.1 suggestion for all problems is: "format your drive and reinstall"...

[Q] HTC Desire HD won't boot

Hi all,
I just joined this website. I got a HTC Desire HD, with Cyanogemod from this website cyanogenmod.org
Since yesterday its stuck in boot screen. The cyanogenmod booting animation keeps going forever. I got into the recovery mode once, and somewhere on another forum someone wrote that I had to click Fastboot. But now I cant get into recovery mode anymore, and my phone wont boot too.
What can I do to make my phone work again?
All help is highly appreciated!
Please provide what steps you followed before current state of phone, are you s-on or s-off, bootloader unlocked or not etc. So that it will be easy to understand the state of ur phone and helo

Hey ramdesai,
I really appreciate your post(and it was really fast too). It was a long time ago that I put Cyanogenmod on my phone, and I used some tutorial to do it. I think this was the tutorial that I used. I also don't know what s-on or s-off is. techgeekal.com/2013/01/14/cyanogenmod-10-1-jellybean-4-2-1-for-htc-desire-hd/
Edit: i know my phone had its original OS before cyanogenmod

Are you S-OFF or have an unlocked bootloader? if you don't know that then I suggest you do some reading first. There is a guide in my signature where you will find all that stuff.
Check the hboot and see what it says...it is not the same installation for S-OFF than being unlocked

I already told you what to do. A good piece of advice is to avoid messing around your device if you don't get what you are doing....when you are online let me know and we can arrange so I can connect to your PC via teamviewer to have a look at it.

Hi, you are such a good person that you are willing to take the time to help me. I really appreciate that. It is midnight now, so I need to go sleep. Will post here when I wake up.
Reboot into hboot by holding power and volume-down. What does it say?

It got fixed by teamviewer. thanks!
Hiho , i have a problem that my DHD wont start anymore after installing the newest update of the Jelly Time ROM.
USB Debugging is off and i cant turn it on and fastboot was allready on before i flashed it.
If i connect the device to my PC the CWM starts but i cant select wipe/factory reset by pushing the power button because the device will boot then.
