[Q] PayPal on Gingerbread - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed Kendall123's Jellybread rom and discovered that the PayPal app is not supported on 2.3.7 gingerbread. Does anyone out there have an old APK that might work?
Thanks!

Try this one

I get " application not installed".

Did you reboot after installing it?
Or try fixing permissions?

I have done both. I also tried copying it to /system/app and setting permissions there. Still no luck.

Hmm, weird. I know that's the one I used on GB, too

I found version 2.2 here that works, however version 2.0 and 2.5 do not. I wonder if it is something on the build.prop on this particular ROM.

Hmm, possibly. That's cool you found one that works!

Thanks for the assist! I appreciate the help with my noob problem.

No prob. I just flashed Jellybread tonight and I have a handful of apps that are giving me the same error :/

AOSP only, not Sense. You can of course try it though, most likely will fail or cause FCs to the point where you can't do anything LOL.
It worked fine on Virtuous, however the phone button gave me
"this application isnt currently installed on your phone"
Which is understandable because of the HTC dialer, thanks for the upload though.
Ya sorry I should of specified

[Q] Wireless Tether Installation Issues (Tried Researching)

First off, Hello everyone.
I have a rooted Evo with the sense Rom I believe. My kernel is 2 .6. 32.17 -gee557fd . My android version is 2.2.
Now my problem. I cannot get Wireless Tethering to install on my phone. When I download it, I get the message that it was not installed. When I try using HTC sync I get the same message. I have no idea of what to do.
I tried researching to see if someone had a similiar issue but to no avail. I tried using the pre-9 verison. Same problem. I wondered if the problem was the kernel. Tried looking for a kernel that I can use, but I really didnt trust using google to lead the way. I really didnt want to mess up my phone.
Can someone help me please. Thank you.
Where are you downloading it from?
Applanet, The Market place, websites that had the apk files for both the pre-9 and current version.
What specific Rom are you using, ill try ripping the version that came with the fresh Rom seems to work for me.

You can get the latest apk from the devs.
Current is v2.0.6.

[Q] Latest MIUI camera for CM7?

I just found an older version of the MIUI camera and popped it on Decks and was amazed by the difference in photo quality. Where can I get the latest version that will work on the EVO? Can I pull it straight from the MIUI ROM or does there need to be any framework changes?
Update, I've copied the MIUI camera app out of the latest EVO MIUI release, but it wouldn't install. I signed the APK and it would install fine, but it force closes when I try to run the MIUI Camera app.
I also tried copying it to /system/app and setting permissions, but it still FC's

I sent a message to the guy that works on the APK to see if he will give any pointers. I'll post it here if he gives a rundown.

GPS Mod does not work

I've wiped cache and downloaded stock gingerbread notification mod, vivow_stock_gingerbread_notification_bar_mod.zip but it does not seem to remove my GPS icon as it has for others. Any suggestions?

Is your current rom deodexed? That is a must in order for it to work.
It may not be. Is there a quick way to tell? Is there a simple process to deodex? The rooting process went fine, and I assumed this opened the phone to all mods, but I must have been wrong. I'll search for a good link to deodex unless you have a better suggestion. Thanks.

deodexing the ROM requires knowledge of using android kitchen and in a sense re-building the ROM, it's fairly simple if you know what you're doing. a good way to check if you'er rom is deodexed is with root explorer, and check out system/apps and if u see double things like MMS.apk and MMS.odex that odex, in deodex you would just see the mms.apk
+1 andybones.
The first question I guess would be are you running a custom rom? If not then you are not deodexed.

Yep, the .odex files are there, so I am NOT deodexed. Seems like it might not be worth the trouble to deodex. although I do have ROM manager backup and can reinstall if I severely screw up. I'm running the rooted 2.3.3 verizon gingerbread.
OK, Switched to VU 2.3.9 and now all seems to work fine! Thanks.

The economist app not compatible with ICS 4.0.3 FC15 ?

I love this magazine and I'm paid subscriber, and I last night I upgraded my custom ROM to ICS 4.0.3 and I'm getting 'this app is not compatible with this device' error.
I have a SG2 running a custom rom.
Any pointers?
Thanks guys!
Where are you getting the error message? From market download?
Usually, most of the apps are running well on ICS. So, if you have an app already downloaded or backed up, try to install the app using backup.
If you don't have any backup, only the way would be going back to previous rom and download the app, backup and coming back to ICS. Try install the app from backup.
My one more question is, did you change the lcd density?

Thanks for your reply.
I tried installing this app by clicking directly on their website, which in turn sent me to the android market and at the top it says 'this app is not compatible with your device'
Unfortunlally I didn't back up any apps.
And no, I didn't change the lcs density, to be honest I dont even know how to do it, lol.
should I actually be doing that?
Is this a mobile echnomist lite?
I was able to download from my ICS FC15 Rom.
[update] never mind. I found the app also from their website and linked to google market.
It seems like only the way would be going back to GB (if you were able to download from there), and save the app. Then comes back to FC15 again to manually install the app.
Ohhh that's a pain in the a.......
maybe I could download the apk from a a website and try it that way?
I DO not recommend but if you can, that would be easiest way until ICS is formally supported.
For me, it worked like a charm in that way.
Now I'm removing the app from my phone.
I have the file, I think it will work for anyone that did not the backup
here it is
edit, I have to have more than 10 post to share a link, I post it on the economist forum ...
Come on Economist!
You would think for $100 a year they could provide a recent app. Think they got their heads shoved up their ipads.
I used airdroid to download the apk from my phone and then upload it back to the new tablet, worked like a charm. However, the app IS laggy with jellybean, definitely something needs fixing, scrolling is very jerky.

Settings/App(Google Play)/Clear Data/clear Cache/Clear Defaults then when you go to Play Store and sign in again it should work. This is how I always clear the not compatible error.
