Files won't transfer properly - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm going insane... my Note 2 was working just fine yesterday but today in the afternoon, i began to search the web trying to find a way to get Mass Storage back on the Note 2 perhaps someone out there created a custom app for it. Well i ended up finding one called " SGS3 Easy UMS " everything worked fine though i couldn't transfer to the internal drive. I ejected it from the pc then put it to mount the sd card back to the Samsung .. it said the card wasn't found and it couldn't mount, i managed to get it working again by restarting the Samsung however now i can't transfer files properly to the Samsung. It keeps switch either between the " Cannot Copy Item The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected " or an strange bug in which you drag a folder or multiple and loads them right away into the phone without showing the transfer bar, if you look into it and check you'll notice folders are incomplete and if you tried to put multiple files it would screw up [ for example a music file played its proper song then suddenly switches to one of the song it was transferred with like they got merged ]
I'm going not nuts nothing im doing is working and no one else seems to be having this problem.
Please someone help....
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through my issues and i appreciate any help provided.

The app you are using is made for a different device. The SGS3 appear similar but aren't actually similar at all by the way they are built. My suggesting is to reflash stock and that will probably solve your issue. Maybe after a few weeks someone might find a way to get mass storage on our device but for now the sgs3 one is instable.

I reflashed the stock using Odin 3 from the Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit and unfortunately it didn't make a difference i still can't transfer files over properly the issue persists

That's how I usually use

The new Perseus kernel seems to have fixed this issue for me.

Do you have another micro sd card you could install and find out if the problem continues?

i doubt that is the issue since i can't transfer anything even into the internal sdcard, I'll give the Perseus kernel a try.
UPDATE: Been trying to add CWM i hadn't before but during install via Odin3 once it gets to recovery.img it just stays there, the program doesn't crash or anything but it just stays loading recovery.img forever
UPDATE 2: I let it stay loading recovery after a good long while it eventually said "FAIL!"

UPDATE 2: Note 2 got all screwed up after trying to install the Perseus kernel but the logo still appeared though all screwy.. i nuked the phone and set to back to full stock and got it up and running, then i rerooted it using the Toolkit provided on this site. File Transfers still don't work properly.
UPDATE 3: Uninstalled drivers completely , unplugged phone, reinstalled drivers using Toolkit, replugged phone. File transfers still not working. I'm afraid to try to install the kernel again though admittedly it was first time trying like this .. i had used odin to try and install with pda like the other tar files but thats what screwed up my phone. Im not going to try again since i can't find cleat instructions on how to. For now i'll just use my Samsung Galaxy Media Player 5.0 to transfer files into my external sd card then just switch back to the Note 2.

Easy button for rooted users:
Installing Recovery: Play Store > GooManager > Install custom recovery script
Installing Kernel: Recovery > Install Perseus .zip file
It's disappointing that we have to jump through hurdles to get MTP to work. :/

At the moment im just transfering stuff in my mircosd from my galaxy media player.. i'll definitely give this a try. Though before i do i just want to let you know that i used the toolkit and the All-one rooting it provides .. it wont conflict will it ?

Forgive me for bring this post back but i just want to report that i have successfully flashed Perseus into my Note and it has in fact restored file transfers!
Thank very much to everyone who provided aid. I really appreciate it. ^ ^
UPDATE: N/m .. it was working only for a little while and it soon returned to the whole " The Device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected "
It happened after switched to camera and back to MTP while the usb was still connected.

(HOW-TO) Flash FW JK1 over JJ4

You will need to register to gain access to this part of the site.
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm
First thing you will need to do is download a few things from the page.
We need -
P1000XWJK1 ## P1.PIT Version 2.2 2010 November (Located in the Europe section at the bottom)
Then scroll to the bottom of the page and look for -
NEW Odin: DOWNLOAD Version 1.7
Once you have all the files in a folder on your desktop. Open up the Odin folder and extract and you will see 2 files Odin and a PIT file.
Open up Odin and look to the right, load up the PIT file that was included in the folder.
You then need to extract the .tar file from P1000XWJK1 that you downloaded. Once you have extracted it go back to Odin and load the .tar file in to the PDA section an tick the box.
Now that were ready to flash you must prepare the tab -
You will need to take both sim card and SD card out before we do this.
Once both have been removed turn the device off. Now power back on holding Volume down + home key.
You should now be in download mode - This is a black and yellow screen with an Android bot stood in a triangle digging. Once you are at this stage you are ready to flash.
Double check that the only options checked are -
Auto Reboot
F. Reset Time
PDA
Once you are happy hit the start button. You should now see Odin doing its thing and also the tab will show a progress bar. Once flashed you can check if the flash was successful by checking with *#1234#
As always
Remember to back up anything important that is stored on the phones memory as this may be lost during the flashing process.
Hope this helps
Funnily enough, I did this myself this morning.
I had to flash JJ4 first, and when I did it booted into Russian, however sticking JK1 over the top brought everything back to English.
Once JK1 booted, the only issue I had is that it wouldn't connect with Google servers when trying to setup my Gmail account. However, exiting out of the setup wizard and doing it manually worked fine.
I'm still setting my Tab up again, but two things I've already noticed are:
1. I can now use the Samsung Email app with the Google Apps for Domains accounts and Exchange ActiveSync - in the original firmware, whilst a normal Gmail account would work fine with Exchange ActiveSync, but none of my Apps for Domains would. Now they work ok.
2. I can get to non-Mobile web sites in a reliable manner! Woo hoo, full BBC iPlayer instead of the mobile version!
Regards,
Dave
UPDATE - I made a Titanium Backup for everything before I flashed my Tab, but I didn't think about it too much and now realize that Titanium didn't backup to external SD but to the internal memory which was wiped.
Not a particularly big deal as I can download it all and set it up again, but I did lose a few preinstalled items, including "Samsung Games" and NOVA.
A bigger concern was that I couldn't sign into Market over WiFi (though 3G worked ok). GTalk wouldn't start either and since Market uses the GTalk protocol, this was clearly related.
I factory reset my Tab again, and this time I could sign into Google via the setup wizard ok (unlike my previous attempt) and having done this Market worked fine.
Regards,
Dave

I have yet to flash a full rom on my tab yet so I cant help you. Id assume that its pretty much the same as flashing a partial rom.
I think if your flashing JJ4 then you should tick the 're-partition' box. Have you tried this?
My question is are you getting 3g after doing this flash??

Yes- Everything works fine for me.
Noob question, but what does flashing this ROM do that is beneficial? What does the new ROM do that the old did not?
Main reason for people flashing this partial rom is -
Issues with the UAString in all browsers. When trying to navigate to lets say bbc iplayer it would re-direct to the mobile version. After flashing you will be able to view 'full' sites. If you already can then Id say you do not need to flash...

Ah, makes sense. I was hoping this had something to do with getting the phone AND 3G to work . It seems right now I can either have one or the other, but not both. Then again, I can't even get my tab to work with my normal TMO sim card, it just redirects to the tmo website if you try to go anywhere besides google .
Ok thanks

languages are lost with the flash with jk1?
the Italian is lost?
this is probably a stupid question but how do i know which version do i have and whats the difference/benefits of one over the other?
Know my way around flashing on HTC phones and have dabbled in development in my time, but unfortunately on the Tab, I am a complete newb, so...
<newb>
..the how-to discusses flashing JK1 over JJ4. As far as I can tell, I have JJ3 - i.e. my build number is FROYO.XWJJ3 and my baseband is P1000XXJID.
Can I flash JK1 directly over JJ3? As far as I can tell, all of the firmwares on Samifirmware are now complete - i.e. they have an asterisk marked "no full firmware" but none of the European firmwares have this asterisk, by which I assume they're complete and stand alone?
Also, what are the benefits of JK1 v JJ3? About the only thing I don't like about my Tab at the moment is that it takes an inordinately long time to connect to my home wifi network. If I watch it connecting in the settings page, it seems to fail to get an IP address in the first attempt (in that it sits at that point for a while, then disconnects from the wifi network) - the second attempt gets an IP fine. (And before anyone says "it must be your router", I have about a dozen devices on my network, ranging from Macs, PCs, Android phones, iOS devices and nothing else has any trouble). Is JK1 likely to improve that?
</newb>

Im not sure about improving your signal as this would be to do with the radio..
I think you can flash JK1 over JJ4..

[Q] I need serious help here my phone is broken

I have tried to flash my phone to EB13 new 2.2 Froyo. I have rooted my Epic 4g using the one click method a long time ago and never had a problem. I tried all steps on previous posts (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963652) and nothing seems to help. I have done the following to update to 2.2 Froyo:
1) I tried to do the update.zip file method. I went to recovery mode and did as you all stated and would return with errors.
2) I have tried to use the odin method (this is where my phone got broken.)
a) I have done all the steps that you guys posted; and odin would return as failed.
b) In odin i have done the following: (Odin recognizes my phone and i have the yellow box and it uses "com6")
I) made sure that the only box that should be checked is Auto Reboot (i didn't know this until the second time i ran odin so the F. Reset Time was checked by default the first time around)
II) the first time around i only placed this file (SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar.md5) in the PDA box. And it returned with errors. (this is where my phone got broken; i realized it when i tired to turn on my phone to call someone)
III) At this point and time i said screw 2.2 i just want my phone back up and running and tried to do your methods to return to stock using these steps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032)
IV) it doesn't work at all. I can still go to the Downloading section of the phone doing the #1 and then power button. and at times i can go to recovery mode (when it wants to) but nothing happens. i get these icons while trying to turn on my phone "a phone with a computer next to it"
c) in Odin i have noticed that it takes an extreme amount of time while in the Param.?? (this takes about 8 hours and than returns with a "red fail" in other occasions it gets stuck on "initializing"
d) Odin is not working for me!!!!!!
3) i have also tried the samsung update method (since odin doesn't work for me)
a) i have done all the steps that samsung says and it all passes until i get to the "start download" section.
b) after i press "start download" it stays in idle for a long time than goes to that param.?? and it wouldn't go anywhere and it stayed there for a whole day and nothing ever happened.
Please guys i have had no phone for 2 days now and i need my phone for work and i need my phone by Friday. If there is any help you guys can give me it would be appreciative or else i would have no choice but to go to sprint store and get me a new phone or have them fix this issue and i don't want to be penalized for messing with my phones OS. Please return with suggestions and help me fix this asap.
*Note: My phones Drivers are all installed using you driver download link and i am using Windows 7 64bit.
Thank you in advance!

I used the eb13 from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
using this tar : Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6
Also, check your usb connector. there are pins in it that can bend and prevent a good connection. I have read a few posts here on XDA where people had to straighten things out.
Good luck!!
Uh, ouch.
SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 is not the same file as SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar
Flashing the wrong file is a very good reason why your odin attempt did not work.
I will try this out im having my fingers crossed. Hopefully it works out.
Just to be clear....
I have re-downloaded the 64bit drivers for Win7.
Now in Odin what do i have to put in "PIT"?
Do i use "s1_odin_20100512.pit" for the PIT tab?

All is working well for me Thank you so much guys and special thanks to you jdelano for your help.
My last question...
Is this rooted already?
let me know.
Thank you guys!!!!
So I just tried this because I couldn't get CW3 on my phone without it being all funky. When I would do it before I would have android flashing over the sprint bootup. This only has the android showing. Did I do it right?

[Q] How do I make my N7100x COMPLETELY stock..(PIT file, custom rom - anything else?)

I I have a N7100x which has a USB OTG problem. I believe Samsung may have added something into the system firmware to stop USB OTG devices mounting correctly (this is one of the demo phones that you see in store - so I'm guessing Samsung wanted to stop people loading up custom software from USB devices).
Absolutely everything on it works correctly - aside from the disabled mobile network connectivity and the USB OTG.
I have so far installed;
- New PIT file to give it the same 16GB partition system as a standard Galaxy Note 2
- Rooted and installed Revolution HD 8.0
Are there any other things that I can flash to my device that may help me overcome this USB OTG issue. The devices mount, then disconnect a second later. The devices do work - but only momentarily. Is there some other flash file (I hear /efs come up every once in a while - can I install a different one of these? Is it likely to help?).
I'm hoping to find a solution to this USB OTG problen...would help a great deal.
Thanks

hi, i have same n7100 demo unit. Could you send me a tutorial how you increase ram to 16 gb. Now i have only 5,5 gb. what pit file you use? I was able to only flash stock rom using odin. Thank you
when you flash stock ROM just select pit
here is pit for 16GB
http://d-h.st/Dlv
Download and extract it, select for pit tab in odin (it will auto check for repartition)
rest of option is same as flashing stock ROM

thank for file, I flash it with odin, check repartiton, autoreboot and f.reset time and phone stuck on animation. Same result with doing the same + stock rom together. CWR show me, that it can not mount /data and /sdcard. So i thing that my note2 does not have 16 GB internal memory. Do you have stock pit file?

I was not successful again...f****.:banghead: My note2 was ready to be throwed through the Window..next time i flash only pit file without check repartition and i use older odin 1.85. Before i every time use 3.07. Then i format \data in stock recovery menu and then i flashed only rom. Woalla, android boot finally. My internal ram is 11 gb now.

is there any solution for OTG problem with demo unit?? im still looking around bu can't find the solution.
Btw Thanks for PIT File Trik.
just in my opinion, which is the solutions for PIT formating problem is not in the odin version, buat you need to wipe data, cache, and also need to flash new ROM.
about the OTG problems, i have tried turn back to Stock ROM, but still has the same problem. OTG USB still connected --> Disconnected --> Connected in 2 second x_x
Is there some one out there who doesn't have this OTG Problem with their demo unit?? Please share
Thanks
I also have the gt n7100x and everything works on it apart from sim related activities like calling, texting and mobile network (also fm radio but i dont know why). does this model have an antenna/radio inside ? if so would it be possible to activate it ?
Can I flash my N7100X with any ROM for 'normal' N7100? The latest official rom for this device is N7100XXUENA1 - Android 4.3. Can I delete a dialer after flashing so my battery lives a little longer?
Is there a new PIT file required for 4.3 ROMs or is it ok to use the old pit files even with 4.3 installed? Thank you so much if you can help!

You don't need recharge a pit file for flashing v4.3.
You only put new file rom on odin, and all works fine.
Same situation for Flashing v4.4.2.

HI. Do you still have the PIT file available? Do you know where i can get one for a 32Gb Galaxy note 2 gt-n7100?

SM-P607T stuck in 4.4.2

Hello everyone,
i bought the SM-P607T during my deployment in Afghanistan over Ebay USA . Spending my time there i tested the device and installed all updates etc. Back in Germany just my wife used it. Some weeks ago i noticed that an update to Lollipop should be avaible so i took the device to bring it up to date and i noticed some problems.
(Please note that i am just a noobie to flashing and rooting android and just follow guides to get to my goal.)
1. Device only loading while shut down. (After rooting and installation of TWRP it strangely started to load while on again even on PC USB connection)
2. Its not possible to connect the device with any PC.
3. OTA updates stop at around 27% and fail (KitKat 4.4.4)
[In TWRP shown
"E: Error executing updater binary in zip /data/fota/update.zip
E: Error installing zip file /data/fota/update.zip"]
Strange enough that the update info shown in android is Chinese Version
Tried to get some support with Samsung Europe but unfortunately they say US device US problem......
So what did i do in the meantime
1. Tried different loading devices frome Samsung and 3rd party companys. No changes.
2. Tried several different data cables to connect to 4 different PC. Even the one wich worked good with my Honor7 or the Galasy S4 mini dont do with the 607
3. My last try to fix this problem was to change the USB charging dock completely. Also didn´t change anything.
4. Now the step where i am currently stuck. I managed to root the device and install TWRP(v2.8.7.0) . Now tried to install Version P607TUVUBOI2 via SD Card.
Just followed diffenrent Guides on youtube and forums but im stuck at this.
Here is the message i got in TWRP recovery:
"Installing /external_sd/1/TMB-P607TUVUBOI2-20510930112901.zip
Checking for MD5 file....
Skipping MD5 check : no MD5 file found
Error flashing /external_sd/1/TMB-P607TUVUBOI2-20510930112901.zip
updating partition details......
Checked the *.zip on my PC there was just this file in: P607TUVUBOI2_P607TTMB1BOI2_P607TUVUBOI2_HOME.tar.md5
Downloaded the file from a different source again with same result
It would be very nice if someone is capable to help me with this and give me a hint what i possibly did wrong (Please do not mention not to buy in the US). For me it doesnt matter if i got a rooted or not routed version to install my main goal is to get rid of 4.4.2 . The problem with the not working USB connection is the biggest show stopper for me.

I really confused about your description? you using twrp to flash a .zip rom? then you mentioned about .md5 rom on your pc? how did you flash? With .md5 rom you need to use Odin to flash. Can you boot into download mode (hold down volume down + Home buttons then press power button)? If you able to boot to download mode, your pc should able to see the device and you would use Odin to flash the .md5 rom from your pc to the device. Also where did you download the .zip rom?

Sprint Note 4 SM-N910P Update (*DQH1) crashed phone!

Hello,
I have three Note 4 phones in the family and the latest update (*DQH1) caused one of them to frequently shut down, not charging and not able to boot. Only solution is pull battery and soft boot to restart. It will also get stuck at the hard reset screen (robot with Downloading...) Sprint tech said, "too bad you need a new phone!"
After reading some posts here I decided to use Odin V3.12 and older firmware **DQC1, **DQE1 and **DQF1. I followed the instruction from Updato (@zxz0O0, @peterjitg) but experiencing "Failed" message using Odin.
Here are my steps & observation:
-Put phone in Download mode
-Run Odin. Device appears as Blue (0:COM6)
-Load firmware (N910PVPS4DQF1_N910PSPT4DQF1_N910PVPS4DQF1_HOME.tar.md5)
-Press start and immediately "Failed"

<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)-Tried pulling USB cable and repeat. Tried different firmware version. Same Failed msg.
Phone has the following msg:
UDC START mmc_read failMMC: mmc_read failODIN : flash read failureWhat else can I do? Please help!!! Thank you.
I have read about mmc read fail many times, so is it better not to update the phone anymore?
Someone reflashed Android 5.1 and the phone works again with sudden restarts and overall bad performance. He installed wake look power manager app and the phone becomes normal again!

Thanks for the info. I did more research on this forum regarding "mmc_read fail". So it seems that many Note 4 were affected after MM update and the hardware ruined! I have three Note 4s and only one is affected. Not all. No fix at all!
The only way to keep using the phone without having to pull the battery each time is to install the WakeLock PowerManager App from Google Play. Setting to level 4. So far, the phone has not shutdown. Will be looking to get another phone, maybe the Pixel2 :good:
dang.. i thought i was the only one..
so no solution?
I had the same issue on qh1 but I wanted to root it anyway. I saw that error once, so I closed Odin and tried again but this time I got another error, something with r/l locked. So I rebooted my phone, went to settings and unticked the reactivation lock. Odin to root again and it worked. My phone is rooted now and running normal. Took me 2 weeks to root the phone newbie
Not sure if the reactivation locked fixed my issue, but that was the only nothing I did. Maybe I was just lucky. It fixed both of the errors
MMC is the multi media card (to clarify, not the sdcard but the actual storage chip on the motherboard)
recognition and utilization of the mmc chip is hardware based or may involve some drivers that are stored off of the MMC chip itself and independent of firmware.
it is a coincidence that the failure occurs around the time of an update, and not unusual if temperamental. it could be a crack in the chip, it could be a crack in a solder contact or a damaged line on the circuit board. whatever the case, warming up and cooling down can expand or shrink ever so slightly the physical components allowing to sometimes function and causing it to sometimes not and the extent of how much this affects your specific device depends entirely on where the failure physically occurred and how severe it is so very few causes will behave exactly the same however all mmc_read_failed note 4's should experience the same symptoms.
there is no fix, just a matter of time before complete failure, so get ALLLLLL your data off it ASAP while you still can and start looking for a new phone. the value of a MMC failed note 4 is the value of it's screen, bezel, stylus, and attached accessories. everything else is garbage.
Just install TWRP with ODIN and download any aosp rom and flash that zip with gapps and your phone will be as good as new.
