[Q] Logmein Ignition Broken on 4.2? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well, this was certainly frustrating. I needed to use Logmein this morning from my phone, and it appears that the app is broken on 4.2

I unisntalled and reinstalled the app but it did the same thing.
Any one else have the same issue after going to 4.2?

Its going to take a little bit of time for everybody to update their apps to make them compatible, but it will happen. If you HAVE to have that app I would go back to 4.1 and download AppWatcher until all the apps you need are updated.

The last update to their software was Jan of 2012. I would suggest emailing android-feedback [AT] logmein.com and give as much information as you can, that way they can be aware of the issue and possibly hurry out an update.

i always enjoy the threads about "such and such app is broke with version <insert newest android version here> can you help me fix it even tho its the apps fault?"

Yeah, I shot them an email this morning but haven't heard back yet. Since the app hasn't updated in 10 months, I'm a little nervous about Logmein's agility and quickness to resolving this issue.

I can get by with out it. It was more of a convenience factor for me.

That's actually not what I said at all. I was asking for other people to confirm the breakage to make sure it's not a problem with my machine. But thanks for being an ass. Move a long little one, this thread is not for you.

Found this on Google. Same thing is happening on my Nexus 7 since updating...so definitely a software/4.2 issue.

Same thing here, just found this thread on Google. My issue though is LogMeIn is essential as I use it daily for work. I have a full Nandroid from right before the upgrade, can I just restore that or will I have to wipe and start with a fresh install of 4.1.2?

Yup, I have noticed RealVNC Viewer is crashing too. Oddly enough, Remote Desktop from Xtralogic still works perfectly.
I did just see that RealVNC Viewer released an update today to fix the Android 4.2 crash. Excellent. Now if Logemein could get it together...

Yes, you can restore your full nandroid 4.1.2 and be good to go again.
Fortunately I don't RELY on it. It is a convenience thing... but it'd sure be nice if Logmein was a little more responsive considering it IS a $30 app!

I restored back to 4.1.2 last night, it's a shame. Overall I liked the new features of 4.2 (seemed they fixed the low volume issue which is nice, I need to use Volume+ just to hear movies on a plane with bose earbuds). Looks like I'll be running with 4.1.2 until LogMeIn catches up. I have already been through trying all other alternatives and unfortunately some of the options that are necessary are only available on logmein (true blank host screen and pop up keyboard with a sticky shift key option and function keys (F1, F2, etc) are a must for the program I access). Here is the email from LogMeIn, they probably wouldn't care if I jumped ship since it's not a subscription and they already have my $30. Most expensive mobile app I've every bought.

Thank you for contacting LogMeIn.
I apologize for the inconvenience, but I consulted with our product specialist and it looks like we don't support the Android version 4.2 (Jelly Bean) at the moment, but hopefully in the near future we'll be releasing an update that will allow it to work.

this to me sounds like no immediate plan. Which i can see the lack of a need because how many 4.2 running phones are there at the moment? Sucks though :/
Thanks for following up

Yep, it's sad the bigger the software producer gets, the higher the price goes, and the slower the support gets. It always amazes me at the top notch level of support you get from the independent dev's even for a $1 app. Most of the time they are FAST, Jrummy and Chainfire are two of the best examples. Yet you can't get squat from a large company for a $30 app that you had to pay for (when the same iPhone functionality is free, which is a whole other rant...) and that is on top of me already paying hundreds a year for premium subscriptions, but to them that is probably chump change. Sucks for me I guess, No 4.2 on my Nexus since I have literally tried them all and can't find any other with those two features that are a must have. A few others had the blank host screen, just not as quick or friendly as logmein, but none have the sticky shift key or pop up F keys, if you know an alterative to logmein that has those I would easily pay for the app in a heartbeat.
*end ramble*
Maybe I should just buy a second nexus for personal use or get the N10 for work and keep the 7 for personal, oh wait, that probably comes with 4.2 preloaded, ****ty! for me.

Ok... what the hell? A $30 app and they tell you to basically get bent?
That is super shady.
I've been using logmein for a couple years now, but it looks like I'll look in to some of their competition. That's just plain BAD customer service.
At least they replied to you. They never bothered replying to me.

They didn't even respond to you? I guess I can be thankful for a response then, it's the least they could do considering I have 6 Pro subscriptions on my account. I'm thinking of looking into gotomypc. Someone else at the office uses them and the ios app has the functions I need. Here is an email I jut got. You can bet I filled out the survey, if you get around to trying gotomypc on 4.2 please let me know.

My reply was;

Thank you for contacting LogMeIn.
We currently do not support Android 4.2 (JellyBean) with LogMeIn Ignition for Android.
We are working hard to become compatible with the latest Android OS.

A bit better, but no ETA and not even an apology!

At least you had a reply, I've heard nothing from them! Fingers crossed it's sooner rather than later as is proving to be a right pain for me....

I thought it was 'cause I was connecting to a Windows 8 machine for the first time! I ended up switching to Jump Desktop which is free for single computer use and had gesture support for Win8.

Well, Logmein at least updated the description for the current app on the play store with a message saying they're working on a fix for 4.2.
Not really happy that they can't get this update out with a quickness, especially when smaller companies like VNC can get it fixed the next day.

Latest update is confirmed working on a rooted stock 4.2

[Q] Totally Kill WinMo??

Is there a way to whip WinMo off the device and just run droid??
Yes droid has it's issues, but as long as I have wifi, gps and txting functions, I'm pretty much fine..lol
SOund wouldn't hurt but I think in the near future it will get fixed.
Any help??
as of now, no.
but i do got an idea that came to me the other day to make it a faster boot into wm so it wont stay there long. if it actually works, i dont know since i still like wm and dont feel like trying it out.
ok, here is what i thought of.
1. Install "HD Tweak" (google it or search xda)
2. Launch HD Tweak and go to section 12. startup (i beileve its what is called) and disable the startup animation and sound. and then close the program, if it ask you to restart DONT.
3. Go to settings and disable HTC Sense (or what ever your running) and have nothing checked on the boxes so its just pretty much the background as your home.
4. Go to file explorer (or what ever you use) and then go to the andboot file (or what ever you have it under) and create a shortcut and put the shortcut into the \Windows\Startup file
5. Restart your phone and hope it works.
what might also help is if your have a fast ROM that starts up on boot and if possible do a hard reset and dont install nothing so it will keep a fast speed and maybe boot. then follow the steps mentioned above.
just remember that this is just an idea so i dont know if this would actually work or if anything would happen to your phone. if it does work and you want to use wm again then just take out your sd card so the shortcut to haret wont work and wm should continue from there.

So this is to boot Android without booting into WinMo??
Looks interesting.
Gotta work in a bit and really don't have time to experiment right now but I will try it out and see what happens. Could it make me a new paperweight by chance??
Edit: Just did it...waiting for boot....HTC screen.....kk..Booted into WinMo but with Haret running...idk..Here's some shots

If the shots arrnt clear enough I can explain em..lol
But yea...I followed the directions and got that..lol
I'm running the Energy rom..Theres like 5 things in my startup folder..should I take em all out and just leave Haret in?? And also, wouldn't Haret need a way to get directed to the kernel and stuff for droid?? Also..Was I supposed to add the Haret.exe file???? I looked for the andboot folder and I didn't add it to my sd card..All my files for droid were inside it and I just copied and pasted all of em out to my SD card.
This is interesting..Maybe we should start tinkering..lol
haha well you almost had the idea but you messed up. you werent supposed to copy the haret itself but where ever you have it located long click it and maybe in the normal file explorer it lets you create a shortcut (dont remember since i installed a cab called file explorer extension which gives it more options). with that short cut, move it over to the startup folder. and just in case make a copy of your startup.txt and rename the copy default.txt so if the start up ever ends up getting corrupted then you can just click on the run button.
but my theory shouldnt make your phone into a paperweight because all your really doing is just disabling your home to plain and adding a shortcut, nothing could make it a paperweight in general but haret still does have a verrrrryyyy little chance to make something go wrong which you should already know.
but my way doesnt kick wm out since it still needs to boot up to see the haret shortcut in the startup folder. just makes it quicker to boot into android on alot faster
Don't want winmo? Buy a driod phone. I don't think we will ever have sound on out Tilt2 with andriod.
some of us tried nand boot on the tp2. You can read on ppcgeeks.
It can and will be done
lot of changes to do to the kernel but yea.. it will be done.
If all goes well I should have one of these devices to test and hack on. Once I do I'll try my best to get android flashed to nand. How far is along is the android port for this phone? I'm getting the CDMA Sprint variant for very cheap.

But only if Android is deemed useable enough for day to day use I guess. The main problem is that almost all the devs have moved to HD2 android development, so apart from the in call volume fix we haven't seen a new functionality for at least 3 months (GPS), and no major breakthrough for ages. The only ones actively developing for TP(2)/TD(2) are working on the new topaz board and getting it to run on the Xperia IMHO and some dudes that reefermatters is in contact with, although reef hasn't posted an update from them for 2 weeks now
I really hope android will run smoothly on the TP2, but honestly I think we will never get it to work properly
Let's hope for a miracle soon

Where could one take a look at the source for the kernel. I've been meaning to dive in and see if I could lend any assistance for a while. I figure I'm going to be stuck with the TP2 for a while (sprint user on sero, so no chance to get an evo) - so figure I should put some of my coding abilities to good use and give back some to those who've helped open my eyes to Android

PPCG for now. We have a thread there. I'll make a buzz once we see android come up. Right no its too early to celebrate.

Anyone Using Tasker?

Anyone here using it? what is this app for? is it worth buying? does it give u battery life? im really interested but i cant find no videos on it on youtube. please share your thoughts.
I have it because it's the only app Ive found that can turn the GPS on remotely. I have it set up to turn on the GPS whenever it receives a certain text msg and then text back the phones location.
It's really useful once you learn it, plus the GPS feature alone is well worth the money.
I'm just about done with my week trial and I will probably wait to buy it. Android 2.2 drops the ability to kill apps which is a huge deal breaker for me when it comes to this app. The author has stated that a fix for root users is possible, but it's not high on his todo list.
That being said this app it great for automating things. When I plug in my car charger the phone automatically sends calls to speakerphone, reads any incoming texts out loud, turns off the display timeout, goes to auto brightness, and loads my speedometer app. Now if only it could kill the app when I unplug the phone!
Sent from your mom's phone.
I've been using it for about three weeks now. It replaced several other apps that were not playing nice together and does much more. I noticed an improvement in battery life, but that could also be because I am running fewer apps now.
It can either increase or decrease your battery life. It depends on what you have it doing. Check out the Power page on the website for more info.
I mainly use it for changing settings based on location. Different profiles for home, work, in the car, and everywhere else.
I did find that it is better to use network location for "Near" which then enables the GPS location for "At" to save battery and yet still get precision.
I also have it setup to do things based on battery level.
The coolest is that I have a profile based on plugging in the headphones that brings up a list of media players. No more poking around just to listen to music.
Overall I am very happy with the app.

I've been dying to ask this of someone who's played around with it - I'd pick it up and try it myself, but just can't swing it right now.
Do you know the issue with Google navigator pausing Pandora tracks? Would it be possible to set up a profile that would fix that? Something like "if nav pauses Pandora, when nav stops talking, hit play in Pandora"?

I haven't tried it yet, as this is the first I've heard of Tasker. But, if you go to the website:

you can download a trial good for 7 days. The developer even says you can uninstall and reinstall if 7 days isn't long enough. So, I'm going to try it out myself.

Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Well, i am a tasker user and love it. it can change and setting your phone has, well almost, but still more than an other app like it. Locale is far less useful and costs more. The other one i forget its name i have not used but tasker from what i read pwns it. I recommend this app for anyone who needs to tell the phone to do things automatically or based on locations.

Then I guess the confusing part is why you posted that comment in this thread..
You have an opinion about tasker, and you post here about task killers (irrelevant to the thread topic) and don't even offer an answer or your opinion about tasker to the OP..
And yes, you are correct about FroYo making Task Killers useless. You can still use them to manually kill off apps but apparently the kill-all intervals don't work like they did on 2.1
This is getting OT of the OP, but if you want a task killer on 2.2 then check out the app "autostarts". It's not a task killer, it's a task preventer. It's pretty cool and works great.
been using Tasker for a few weeks now and i love it. and i'm still playing in the shallow end of what it can do.
configured quiet times based on if i'm oncall or not. also to toggle radios based on gps zones. (and to ensure i have a work appropriate desktop image )

man you arent looking to make friends. every post i see from you, you are acting like a true ****. maybe you should calm yourself and be a little considerate of the other people on the forum and stop with the act.
As for tasker. I agree with many many others that have said it is a great app once you get it set up. I have it do mostly basic things such as when car charger is plugged in turn on bluetooth start navigation app. when near work turn ringer to vibrate and turn media volume down. when home turn ringer on media volume on and wifi on turn bluetooth off. stuff like that. I havent noticed it giving me extra battery but i love that i dont have to remember to mess with all my settings.

You could always try posting something relevant to the thread that you're posting in, or possibly starting a new thread on the subject that you wanted to discuss, instead of bringing your off topic complaining here...or hey, even acknowledge that people answered your off topic questions pretty well, and gave you some leads. Oh, and I love how you brought Obama into a tasker thread. What's next, godwin? At least you now realize that you should search first, and ask questions after. Which is good - it shows that you can comprehend some things if you put your mind to it.
Anyway, back on topic. I've started to play around with the different settings and profiles that tasker gives you, and the only thing that's become clear to me is why they give you a weeks free trial. Damn! This app has a lot of options!

Yeah, that was me, I came right out and said I was confused as to why you were bringing it up in my other post (all polite like, I might add), because you didn't use the quote feature, and I missed where it had been mentioned before - it looked like you just started talking about some random topic in a thread about tasker. Instead of clarifying that it was brought up in a previous post, you got all internet tough on the thread, and it all went down hill from there. See that? Simple misunderstanding.

[App] Voice translator

Hi everybody!
I've spent a day on the last long weekend and wrote a simple voice translator with speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities. Truly, I did it because I was confused a little of this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352006 . OP treats his app too "top-secret and classified", and put a lot of limitations and restrictions for XDA members. But that kind of app is very simple; there is no know-how or some proprietary technologies involved: all apps (of this kind) are using undocumented Google's speech-to-text and text-to-speech APIs (but very well documented on internet forums! )
Also, AFAIK, most of 'em are using FlacBox project's code but without reference to project page and author's copyright!
I'd like to announce a completely free application (but ad-based); everybody are welcome to beta-test (marketplace version will be released soon after XDA slight beta test).
App has no limitations or restrictions but if you can't hear translation or recognition is not working for your language, it's not a my fault but just not supported by Google's APIs.

Your comments and feature requests are welcome here; don't forget to post a bug reports too Also, grammar and lexical corrections are very welcome (English is not my native language).
Download and sideload Voice translator v 1.1.0 from attachment!
Update: version 1.1.0 added. Changes: slight UI and performance improvements
Update: VoiceTranslator updated to version 1.3: various bugs are fixed, it loads faster now; added nice new icons.

P.S. If you really wanna thank me, see my signature Dropbox is a great service, and I'd like to expand my free box size up to 16Gb. It's also good for you and you may be sure: I've never had any spam or troubles with dropbox!

It's not my bugs but Google's Try desktop Chrome with microphone - u'll get same results.
P.S. BTW, do you know: Google's translator already knows an "albansky" (you know what I mean - for other's it's a Russian specific internet slang) language Try to pronounce: "V Babrujsk, givotnoe" or "Afftar ggot"
anyway
cool and nice work!!!!
Great app~ Thanks
Awesome app THX man. For Polish work good.
I understand now why you were up my butt about our App, we both basically have the same thing.
Nevertheless, good job ;]

"No" and "yes" I wrote this app yesterday, just after finishing reading your topic. I was a little confused: you are drastically promoted your app on the one hand but refused of beta testers on the other hand... XDA isn't free beta-testers place or advertising area; it's a community of enthusiasts and homebrew developers. So I decide to give a chance to "unlucky" XDA members to get the same app for free, without limitations and restrictions. BTW, I can afford to spend 10 hours of my time for community needs (but my wife disagrees with me! )

Hmm. About 80 people (at least) are downloaded xap from the first post but only few rated app and left response on the marketplace (as I've asked)
Hey, XDA members, nobody is asking for your money or complicated movements, just provide your appreciation! It takes not longer than one minute...
P.S. I wasn't 100% sure what the "common" xda member is a lazy greedy "freeloader" even when I've collected money for Cotulla's test handset and only 12 people donated... But now I'm going to change my mind

Hey man, don't stress too much about it. I know what you feel, we had 100+ "private beta testers" and only 10 responded with feedback the others only asked for the app and never heard of since. Thats the way it works, and some maybe want to do some more experiments before they rate and give feedback. I have not downloaded it yet, just saw this thread and it looked interesting.
Ill check the app out later this week (as Im doing quite some stuff in multiple languages it might be usefull to me) and will rate it. Maybe you have to tune up the logos and the UI a bit (metro style bubbles??) so you will not get critized for that. As I also found out WP7 owners tend to not update their reviews so you will get bashed for inital bugs/ui glitches pretty much permanently.
But thanks for the hard work of the development. I am truely looking forward to what you can come up with in the future with this app.
Keep it up and don't worry too much about it, the people that are interested will show their support, the ones that don't well they don't.
Marvin, thanks for good words! Of course, my criticisms don't apply to you, as well as dozens of busy developers here on xda (also, we have a lot of students and they are very busy now). You know, I helped to lot of people here, and people are helped me too. Actually it's an only thing keeps me on XDA
I'm not an angry or stressed (it's a forum's smiles ); just want to blame people who treats xda like a "warez" or "free stuff" place. But it isn't (at least on my opinion).
Of course I'll continue my work on the funprojects ('cause it's my hobby and not about money) and will continue to help the good people here.
Not all of us are like that! I left both of you feedback/bug reports, sorry to hear that many don't though. I can imagine as a dev that would be frustrating..

Thanks, man, I know and appreciate that! Fortunately there are lot of a real industry enthusiasts and responsible people here (but of course not all have a time to read all topics).
But take a look to the first post, 161 people are already downloaded app v 1.1 from XDA (app has much-much more downloads now from the marketplace but I don't care about mp strangers). I believe there are no strangers or casual visitors here on XDA so most of 'em are XDA members and reading these forums regularly, and I've asked for very tiny thing (and never asked for 5 stars or good review only - no, I need a people's real opinion) but only few people (let's say, 6 at day one, most of 'em my XDA friends) are rated and left reviews... It's kinda disappointing...
Haha yes, also scoobysnacks it was not directed at you.
But back on topic. It seems to crash for me when I copied a translated text (dutch to spanish) than exit the app trough taskswitcher to go to whatsapp. When i come back with the taskswitcher it will show resume... (is it not mango ready?) and than crashes. Dont know if its consistent, but it just happened. Which is unfortunate since I like to use it in combination with whatsapp eg.
Also, could you implement onfocus --> textbox2.SelectAll so i can easily copy all text when clicking the textbox with the translation. As I will use that a lot.
But it works pretty good, the google api does a good job at recognising. And you built it well. The hold to speak is indeed very smart and works intuitive.

XDA Gallery - Chrome Extension - Now on Chrome Store

What is it:
This is a quick extension I coded up to turn XDA threads into an image gallery. The extension button will enable when you're on a topic that it is able to translate, clicking it will open a new tab that dynamically fetches images as your scroll down. Keep in mind this is an Alpha, did it in one day, so it may ( read "most likely" ) will have problems. Its great on those "Post your screenshots" ( wallpapers, cases, whatever ) type threads.
Permissions:
- "Access your data on forum.xda-developers.com" - This is to fetch images from the forum, I haven't messed around with removing it since I was just using this personally but decided to release to you. Promise I don't care, nor gather, anything about what you do on XDA.
- "Access your tabs and browsing activity" - This is to detect when you switch between tabs and enable/disable the extension button. Also I do have this hooked into Google Analytics now, but I only gather extension page views to see what's being used. In the future I'll be hooking it into events as I add features( if it's popular enough ) to decide where to put my efforts. No personal information is collected.
- "Storage": Allow extension to save Extension Settings.
How to Install:
New: Added to official Chrome store now just add via https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/xda-gallery-beta/bohmnlfnbncjhpjagccfgblhcdgicdnp
Reporting Bugs:
If you'd like to report bugs then please give me the thread you had an issue with, and if you can narrow it down to an image then link to the post containing that image ( if it's working, there is a link under each image to bring you to the post. ).
What's Next:
Currently the extension will start showing images from the forum page you launched it from. Going to implement a way to jump to the beginning or specific page.
Implement scrolling upwards to load the previous pages images, this is needed for the next item.
Lots more ideas for "community" type features But gotta get the basics hammered down first!
Change Log:
3/15/2013
Added an "Advanced" options section allowing you to override the number of images and fetch all of them. ( If it doesn't work correctly on some thread blame mon5trum, he requested it )
Some bug fixes
3/9/2013
Now when viewing images in the popup you can click to view prev and next, or just use the arrow keys to navigate!
New Extension Settings page, styled to blend in and match chromes style for settings.
Setting to adjust the minimum number of images to fetch( Careful here as it wont render any images until it finds at least this number, could take awhile if you try and use on a thread that doesn't have many images ).
Setting to turn on debug mode ( Will show logging in the Chrome console. NOTE: I'd leave this disabled unless you need to troubleshoot an issue as it could slow down logic a bit )
3/7/2013
Lots of fixes and enhancements in this one.
First off, thanks to Pooley! He is an awesome guy, and very talented. Thanks to him with have a great, professional looking icon!
Aspect ratio is now respected
Added image zoom capability
Now identify images with broken links and shows in small window( as to not break scrolling functionality for now )
Images should also layout nicely in a column format
Fixed quite a few bugs( hopefully without creating new ones )
Hmmm... seems like there should be more, but I'm too lazy to look at my commit log, so just check it out
3/2/2013
NEW: Now on the official Chrome Web Store
Starting to work on the look a bit, its still pretty ugly lol... What can I say, graphic design isn't my thing, but it'll get better
1/27/2013
Pretty much a complete rewrite
Fixed loading duplicate issues
Better error handling( Will tell you when it's reached the end of the thread )
Asynchronous loading should now be working correctly
Do you find this useful? Click the Thanks button to send me some encouragement... Or if you're feeling really generous buy me a redbull to keep me going at the keyboard ( If not, no worries, it's hardly expected )
Great idea mate, thanks

Didn't use anything that would exclude Linux, I'll have to look into that.
Been awhile since I updated this, but did a complete rewrite of the extension, should now be working much better. Replaced attachment with new extension and added changelog in the OP.

Yea, that would be awesome... I'm sure it'll come eventually( *fingers crossed* )
It doesn't work if the page contains a gif. But gifs are shown in the gallery though.
Example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38762538#post38762538. And i think sometimes it also happens if a gif is present in a user's signature.
--edit--
It's working now. Seems to be haphazard.
Chrome store just told me Android not supported...
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
Ok here is the icon. first attempt. zip contains psd + png (512, 38, 19).
Will try another way as I don't see clearly the pic on 19x19 res. But it's a first try, tell me more about color, about shapes what do you eventually like to see in the icon.
FYI no active/inactive as the inactive will be the greyscaled version of the active one
OK second try
I like this one (minimalist and easely recognizable even in 19x19) what do you think ?
Also attach a zip with psd + png (512, 38, 19) ON/OFF mode

New to the Droid World

Hello world,
I just purchased an Samsung S3 but I haven't done anything to it yet because I am deciding if I want to keep it or sell it. I have always used iPhones and know how to jailbreak, tweak and customize it the way I want it but due to the ongoing battle with Apple and jailbreakers and having to wait for a jailbreak I think it's time to switch. An iPhone is nothing without a jailbreak and I am tired of the cat and mouse game.
So now I am here. I know I need to root the phone and can find useful info on this site but what I want to know are the tweaks for the droid phones just as good as the iPhone or better? Please don't be bias especially if you never owned an iPhone.
Can I customize the phone so if a friend ask to use the phone and wants to know the password I can give a dummy password? Can I create a secret account that won't show any of my apps, emails, photos, text call logs? Something similar to an iPhone app called igotchya?
Privacy is my number one concern but I would also like to add tweaks similar to what you would find in Cydia on an iPhone.
Before you rip me a new one for bringing up iPhones or Apple just note I am here to learn and not compare. Everything is foreign to to me which can lead to frustration but if I can have full access to my phone then it's worth it.
Before Apple I use to use HTC window phones like the 8525 and Fuze and came here to flash my roms.
The best way to know would be to root it and explore the different custom ROMs out there. Aosp or touchjizz . you can always revert back to fully stock if you decide to sell it.
Customizing a rooted android device is in no way comparable to a jailbreaked iPhone. Way more customisations posibilities and control over your phone hardware(CPU/internal memory)

Thanks for the reply.
I guess I am more concern about privacy. Prying eyes going through my stuff and accidentally deleting something. When my iPhone was jail broken I used a tweak called Protecti were I can lock certain apps from being launched and have a second passcode so I don't need to give up my real passcode.
The one thing I do like about the droid is how you have more options. You payed for the phone and allowed to do whatever you want with it. Unfortunately with the iPhone, Apple wants to control everything. I am really disliking Apple and waiting for the day when when the next big thing happens and Apple struggles to stay alive.
In my opinion if Samsung would make their phones feel solid instead of plastic they can really do some damage to other cell phone company's.

For the security, I'm sure you can find an app or something that will do the same thing you were used to on your iPhone. You will just need to find the app that does it check for lookout in the play store I think it will do want you're talking about. If not search security in the play store and I'm sure one of the all will suit you. Root my be needed tho. So don't be afraid to root your device and try. As I said you can easily revert back and be able to sell it after.

So the play store has tweaks such as these? I don't need to go through a different source (similar to cydia for iPhone)?
Is there anything comparable to Installous (iphone cracked apps / try before you buy)?

You can search for the .apk on Google or XDA and install it manually on your phone. You put the file.apk on your sdcard you select it from a file manager like es file explorer and it will install the app on your phone and you don't need root to install app manually.
And yes the play store has tweaks such as these and many more. And if you look on the main page of XDA-developer(not the forum) you can find apps that are not in the play store yet. So instead of using cydia, you just need Google, XDA and the play store

Thanks for useful info,
That's cool you can just put the file on your sdcard and don't have to use a third party installer.
I guess my next stop is to buy an SIM card adapter since the iPhone 5 uses a smaller SIM card. Once installed I don't need to do anything like call AT&T, it should just work right?
Hopefully the keyboard and the auto spell corrector on the S3 is much better than the i5. I wonder if I should sell the S3 and get the S4 or do you think the S3 is better for now since the S4 just came out and is still a little buggy?
Much thanks in advance.
